Do you realize how difficult it is to play a FIVE STRING fretless bass?? This girl is unbelievable! I absolutely love her. She makes it look so easy. No effort at all, as if she was born with a bass in her hands. She has "The Gift," in Spades. She is what they call an "old soul." BRAVO, Ellen!
I know! I think I would be able to be like her. If I was younger maybe in my 20s. I am now 55 and starting to play the bass.
@@imjelonever to old to start enjoy it 👍
@@imjelo You have to start when you're nine years old to (maybe) be as good as Ellen.
@@ItWentChunkaCHUNK So, are you sayimg I cannot be a good bass player bevause I am already old?
@@imjeloNo thats not true ! I didn't learn to play bass, until i was 34 and im now 63 and have progressed to unmarked fretless, after many years of playing a marked one .
You to can be as good as Ellen, regardless of your age if you want to ? Good luck👍🎸
You just made a 62 year old man and ex-bassist cry. You amaze my daily. With deepest admiration... James
YEP!!👍👍
Frets? Who needs frets? Certainly not this talented little lady. It's a pleasure watching her not only because she is amazing, but because of the joy she shows whenever she is playing.
Jaco Pastorius called frets "speedbumps", so he ripped them out. The rest is history...
Jaco Pastorius would be happy listening to Ellen playing so beautifully on a fretless bass 🎸🎶❤
yeah man i'm sure
Ellen I really like this softer side of your playing. You are truly adept at the bass. It gives me joy hearing you. Thank You.
Thank you too
It is nice to see Ellen's progression in talent, she is such a mature player for her age group. And this fretless bass sounds great on this video. Kids grow up so quick, I hope she never loses that happiness and smile as she gets older, it is as beautiful as her playing.
Right this is beautiful, she's really starting to make music here.
Heart warming hope for the future. 🙏
This is probably the most musical video you've ever posted... like you're a great player and all, but this was a full song, instead of just some short phrases, and on an instrument where intonation, accuracy, and especially FEEL, really matters, and you absolutely nailed it in every way.
Thank you, there are many full-length videos on this channel, check them out!
There are plenty of videos of Ellen playing complete songs. For example, go watch her playing Sir Duke😊
This young lady is a very gifted musician go get em ELLEN thump that bass!!!
Ellen is always just beeming with happiness on every video. Find something to do that you love. And do it.
What a Fan I am
But *does* she love it? There are so many of her videos featuring her father, I hope she isn't just playing because he keeps pushing her.
@@addictedtoguitars4948, I really hope she or her father answer your question. From what I heard from videos way back, she wanted to learn the bass. Not sure of how many videos or interactions you've seen of them, but if he was pushing her into playing you wouldn't see the enthusiasm as Ellen shows us in the videos. I hope this helps answer your question.
@addictedtoguitars4948 Little kids wear their emotions on their sleeves. Her emotions hanging on her sleeves are obviously much joy. The videos with her dad show much love and obvious enjoyment on both parties.
No. UA-cam is concerned about Ellen still being very young. Her dad has to be in the videos so that they receive money from UA-cam.
Her Dad is not pushing her into anything. They work together and are very happy.

the aesthetics of the pastel sweater, the gorgeous bass, the natural background, and then the SOFT fretless bass sound
are out of this world!
Agreed - a completely new experience . . .
WOW Ellen/Hovac! We even dressed up for this one, and played a whole song. I love it. It's a wonderful Thanksgiving present for all of us: your adoring fans. One of my favorites already is the family music video of the singing out in the forest. Ellen looks like a little princess today and her playing is superb. I'll play this many times over. Hugs and thank you all for being who you are.
Браво, ЭЛЕН-ДЖАН !!! УМНИЦА, ЖЕЛАЮ ОГРОМНЫХ ТВОРЧЕСКИХ УСПЕХОВ !!!
It’s fun and amazing to see Ellen starting to form emotional relationships to the music.
Uh, where have you been? She's always very into everything she plays! That's why she laughs and smiles a lot, dincha notice?
Yes she into everything she does because she having fun being a kid doing what she loves. What I saw in this video was the the first inklings of adult emotional connection to the music.
@@JustTurned60
I’m not going to let you turn what is meant to be a compliment into an argument. Good day sir
When I was 11, I was outside eating dirt..
Props to Dad, you are doing such a wonderful job raising this angel.
At least the bass isn't bigger than her anymore - they are about same size now. But she still kills those basslines. ☺
I liked this video for 3 reasons..
1. Ellen how do you play fretless? It blows my mind
2. You have the best dad…makes me wanna cry. You guys are amazing.
3. Ellen you are progressing so well keep it up. You won’t regret the time you’re putting in. You have a huge following we love you.
Agree on all 3 points, especially #2!
All great points all
I concur. Ellen is absolutely amazing.
I put her 'Penny Lane' video on Facebook and many of the comments that came back were like 'Wow she is such a good singer" Hmm .. Well yeah, she is .... but ....
That bass is really beautiful and beautiful sounding!
Of course Ellen's playing is extraordinary, I wish her all the best!
It looks like a Marluexe, frettless bass made in Germany ! Fantastic basses, but pricey.
A 4 string will set you back £ 4000 .
@@stephenbennett1643
Besides the great ,fretless bass guitar, what makes that moogee sound of it ? Is there any electronic device hooked up between guitar and speaker ?
@janqs2459 No frets and touch. Maybe a little chorus but not necessary.
Fear seems to be the enemy when it comes to playing fretless. Don't overthink it and listen... it can be that easy. The more you play and trust your ears the easier it becomes.
Ellen has figured that out.
@@janqs2459 I think you'll find that is actually the sound of the bass . The Marlueax, does have a switch on it for 3 different tones !
There are plenty of reveiws on utube.👍
@@Brad5161 I play unmarked fretless, its not as hard as it looks ! There are guidance dots on the top of the neck for every other note.
To play your flats and sharps you just have to get your fingers dead centre of the 2 dots !
But yes ear training is the key !
Every time I see Ellen play, and having watched her for the last several years, it gives me hope for the younger generations today. I have been playing bass for almost 50 years and have never truly LOVED it the way Ellen seems to do.. bravo! And the sound of that fretless is SO darn cool!
She has an edge that most people don't have in that she plays and practices with her dad, and they appear to have a remarkable bond. It must make the work a lot more fun! She also has the talent, obviously. I just think that she's remarkably lucky that way.
Wow! I didn't pickup the fret-less bass until I was seventeen. (I'm 58 now..) I can't wait to see what she'll do when she's big enough to play an upright acoustic!
Like many kids, this young lady is fearless. No limits, no preconceptions. I can only dare to imagine where she'll be in 15 years. I'm confident that she will keep that creative spark alive as we all watch and listen with admiration for the years to come. We're already blown away by her ability. God bless her parents for the encouragement, love and support. Without that love, none of this would be possible. Play on!! ❤
She needs to get a bit taller---then she can work on the stand up acoustic bass. The '1/2' size will begood for herin 2-3 yearsI hope. The standard bassis called a '3/4' size and she may be able to get to this at about 14 or15. She can workout on stuff like this: ua-cam.com/video/bvLheXI21lo/v-deo.htmlsi=HxTZrB6siCQX-uGx This is supposed to feature saxophones but those of us who listen know it is about the bass player--17 years old at that time. Have a listen.
There’s a cool video of Ellen playing bass guitar with three other young people, doing The Ocean by Led Zeppelin
Any kid should be proud to have her as a music teacher
Thank you Young Lady!
This is one of my favorites so far. The bass has a much deeper and richer tone than usual, and you seem very much comfortable playing it. Awesome job, Ellen.
What a beautiful production. The birds are wonderful. This video is like a hug from Ellen and her parents, and I feel so much better for having watched it.
Simply phenomenal! This girl is a legend in the making! That was clean and professional all the way through!!!
That was great Ellen. You pick up my spirits when you play. Thanks Ellen.
Not talking about her talent, she is so cute and beautiful. ❤
The way she plays the bass is wonderful, she is going to be one of the best but I already love her way of playing, for me she is an artist 👍👍🎶🎶👍👍
That's some marvellous, musical playing right there. And besides that stunning right hand articulation, that left hand on a five string fretless is superb. Really for this age out of this world! Congratulations! - it's for sure unbelievable talent but a lot, lot, lot of hours and hours of practicing.
Again - MIND BLOWN! To play a fretless base like that at your age is truly astounding.
She just keeps getting better! I'm so thankful for the pureness and positivity that gifted young people shine into our lives. Inspirational, uplifting and joyous!
Very nice song, Beautiful Fretless Bass playing Ellen!! Awesome!!
That child is a true prodigy.
We need Ellen and her playing and her smile to spread happiness in the world and contribute to world peace. How can anyone display hatred and anger after watching this channel ?
You have a true gift.
Ellen , you have such ab aura of confidence about you. It such a treat ti watch you play. 🤘🏼
Absolutely incredible. Don't ever stop playing. 🌠
I love that fretless base sound - so organic and natural sounding. I can't wait until Ellen starts writing her own music - I'm sure I'll love it!
For a moment I thought I was listening to RUSH. Ellen Rocks!
Almost forgot.....I did catch that beautiful 2 string harmonic chord you did at the end....just perfectly places and pronounced!!! 👏👏
Que du bonheur !!! Toujours beaucoup de plaisir à écouter Ellen, mais pourrait-on dégager une telle aura sans avoir des parents aussi aimants !!! Cordiales salutations à tous !!!
What happiness!!! Always a lot of pleasure listening to Ellen, but could we exude such an aura without having such loving parents!!! Cordial greetings to all!!!
That is not talent in the making. That is talent already made. Unbelievably impressive…and a very happy video to be shared with the world for everyone to enjoy 🌎 Thank you Ellen! for sharing your talent and grace.
Awesome Bass Playing
can't wait till she starts her own band one day
Tasteful bass work on this gentle song, further demonstrating the versatility of Ellen's playing. It makes sense to feature the bassline prominently in this video, but I'd still be interested in hearing a version of the mix where her bass track is taken back a little. Brilliant work overall, keep it coming!
The feeling you put into this in wonderful. You're getting beyond the simply technical into where the playing of your instrumentation is like breathing. Brava!
Ellen, thank you for making my day! It's amazing how you play your fretless at your young age - it seems soooo easy. There's one more way how you are tremendously blessed - you have a fantastic Dad. Please make sure he gets the gig for your grandkids weddings... 😊
I love listening to You play ⚘ You are very talented. I am amazed how you know all these Bass players and know when the songs were released. ❤
Thanks a lot ✌️🏻
It helps to have a dad that is friends with them
😢 beautiful emotion you put into this Ellen. ❤
Thank you
Your gift shines on the fretless!
Ellen , you make me smile and weep.
When you play a Bass with no fret, I am amazed. I played guitar a short while and I couldn't even imagine Playing that way. you're an incredible musician.
This young lady is awesome . Her playing is spot on I can only imagine where she will be in 10 years .
I remember Ellen saying "never" to a 5 string fretless bass to which Hovak said, "Don't say never!" He was right again, Ellen. Great job on that beautiful bass.
Becoming a true Artist. Amazing Ellen. Thank you for sharing your gift, with us all. :)
That was such a great piece and you played it perfectly! Love your look and also that beautiful Bass!! You're a Gem!!
Ellen , what a beautiful song you chose play that bass on! You look so relaxed and at peace ! I hope I am still alive when you are around 16 yrs old to see how you progress. Thank you for making me smile today.
Du bist schon schon so weit. Was für ein schöner Frettless.Dein Papa hat Dir viel beigebracht.Sei Dankbar.Ein guter Vater mit Talent.Natürlich genauso wie Du.Bin Stolz auf Dich.
she is so sweet playing this fret less bass.
Can we all agree, That this was CLEAN AF ?
Such a pretty song😊
This just reinstilled my hope in humanity's future.
Pure, simple, beautiful music from someone who is filled with the joy of playing. Sometimes, this makes all of the difference in having a lousy day and having a great day; listening to good music.
Love that bass and the sounds she is getting out of it! Superb!!
Ellen, That song is so cool and the sound of that fretless bass is awesome. Thank you so much you are amazing.
What a sweet bass line... you make me listen in a different way, finding the beauty of the instrument as if it's new.
I cant get enough of this beautiful and talented young lady!! She is so much fun to watch!
Ellen has grown and blossomed into a great bass player. Congratulations Ellen ... Your hard work and dedication has paid off. And, lets not forget Ellen's Dad who patiently nurtured Ellen along the way.
Can only imagine her at 20. all that exp.
Shes gonna be a goat bassist in a decade
She will be incredible for sure. Not that I want her to grow up faster than necessary, but I can't wait till her little fingers and rame are actually bigger than that instrument.
I can't imagine her at 12
Ellen you really play that fretless!! I know you practiced hard. Have a great day💚💚💚😎
@@bencooper6983 I don't think you'll have to wait a decade.
Another flawless performance! Great job as usual. There is no doubt that you have an amazing, musical future!
"There are no slots for her fingers to make notes like a regular guitar.. She instinctively knows exactly where her tiny finger tips have to go on that particular size instrument to get what she wants out of it. She has many different guitars, all different sizes. She does not have to look. This is a true child genius."
I shared that on Facebook along with the video.
I play frettless bass, a lot is training your ear, but she will have dots on the top of the neck as guidance which does make it easier than it looks . Nether the less what a unique talent this young lady is.
The word "Special "is all watered down. Of course, we are all special in our own ways, Ellen is definitely "unique" and very special! Incredible in fact!@@stephenbennett1643
I painted dots on my viola@@stephenbennett1643
@@davidmacphee3549 Iv'e got an ex Mrs , but we get on fine ! We rareley speak😂 but if we do its all good . Your ex sounds like a right horrible bitch ! If i was you mate, i'd leave her behind and never look back !!! You don't need people like that in your life . Leave her to live in her bitter twisted bubble . You'll be glad you did 👍
Can I say one thing? Tuning!! There are successful, seasoned pros out there who have never managed to nail their fretless tuning like Ellen does.
Excelente Ellen!
Beautiful guitarplay ❤ Beautiful background 😊 and one loveley guitargirl 🎸🤗 Nice playing, Ellen 😊 Have a nice day 🌞 Greetings from Holland
Ellen, your fingers move like magic across that fretless bass. That coupled with your wonderful smile and infectious laughter, along with your growing musical talent brings joy to your videos!

Beautiful with chorus on your fretless bass.
You did it,Ellen!❤
so good
I played bass for 30 years, A fretless has it's place and you just demonstrated that. Loved it👍
Glad she plays a fretless and so well. And she is so relaxed.
Man, I just love that bass so much. She can really work it too.
Just recently 'discovered' you, and subscribed immediately. Love all your vids, but this one holds a special place for me. Keep at it young lady, you're going places.
Welcome aboard!

Fretless Bass is my fav Bass sound. Ellen, you always make the music you play come alive. Thank you!!!!!!!
Ellen está linda, maravilhosa essa menina.
Muito romântica 💓, obrigado.
You took us to a fairytale world, Ellen. Nothing compares to the magic of fretless! Only the most dedicated people can play it. You have such a pure love for music. Everything flourishes when done with love. Thank you! 🩵
This young lady can make that bass sing like an angel. nicely done.
She is not just playing the right notes. Her work is very musical.
From one musician to another thanks for the music and best wishes from Columbus Ohio USA ❤️
Thank you
Ellen,
Love the sound of your new fretless bass. By listening closely, I can hear a lot of subtle nuances that that bass can provide that you bring out from it.
Great work. I'm sure a lot of your followers would love to hear a lot more of this style of your playing, I know I would. Dreamy........
Marvelous. You never cease to amaze us with your skill. We can see that you don't just play music, you feel it. Keep it up!
😮 that sounds so magic!! Awesome!!
Thank you for this sweetness you offer us, as I've already told you I love the Bass and in your hands it's just a joy and even the birds I see behind you are under your spell.🐦
Ellen you are wonderful 🎶🎸💜
Ellen you are a prodigy! But I guess you and your parents already knew that. God bless you! You make my day every time I see any videos of you. Greetings from Columbus Ohio.
Beautiful playing 😁. Already looking forward to the next one!
I will forever resent the teachers that told my parents when I was her age that "my hands were too small to play guitar or bass", and I’ve always had quite long fingers for my age. I did not get a bass until my sophomore year in college. They just didn’t wanna deal with teaching me. All these videos of these kids on UA-cam depresses me that I lost like 10 years of enjoying something. I really enjoy and makes me me.
Its 4 am in the morning and i happened upon this..... What a great way to begin a day. I dont know this tune but you play an amazing bass backing togthis. Being a 66 year old wannabe bass player myself , i am blown away with the fluidity and confidence that you play this fretless with. Sure made my brightening day. Mucho gracias !❤
I like the sound of the reverb on your bass !
