What impressed me most about this video is the sweet spirit in which you delivered it. I’m a Christian, have worn only skirts my whole life (I am 47), and although I do not wear a veil, I understand why some interpret the scripture that way. I went to public school so I quickly learned to share why I dressed different, etc. It made me who I am today. I still am trying to be comfortable in my own skin (adjusting and readjusting to life as it changes, as I get older, etc). At the end of the day, I just want to please God with the choices & shine His light in my life.
I absolutely loved how you answered and explained God has been bringing up covering my head for years and like you I keep telling myself ill stand out, your answer was so simple and I love it!!!
Thank you so much for this. I've come back to this video multiple times in my journey toward covering my hair, and I'm feeling more and more convicted about it and today plan on shopping for my first veil. I grew up Mennonite, but my mom only ever wore the veil when older family was around and I never did, (it was more contemporary Lancaster conference) and when I grew up, that reason just didn't resonate with me. Now over the past years The Lord has led me toward many other reasons, and hearing many testimonies, including yours, have been wonderful inspiration. I'm a bit nervous about the social changes I will experience, but also excited to wear my testimony on my sleeve, or rather my head, in this case.
Super cute hairstyles! The braid is genius. Appreciate your explanation about the veil. The one you're wearing is very inconspicous. I can't see that it would be inconvenient, and it is not ugly. It is in the Bible... So... Now I feel like what are we waiting for? In my case it is fear of being labelled extremist where I live.
Hi Valerie 👋 I am not a Mennonite, but a fellow Christian. I just wanted to say that I love your heart in why you do what you do. Thank you for sharing!
Bless you Valerie for being a woman of conviction and for digging into the Word, for being strong in following what you believe and making it your own.
You're real and that's so nice. It's only what we do for Christ and for others that matters. Remain focused on God, love yourself, love your husband, love others and watch God work for you.
Hey! Brand new Mennonite here! I have felt a bit hesitant to ask people at church certain questions, but feel like I could ask you! Thanks for being open and sharing all of this, especially your hairstyles! I’ve been wanting to learn better than the horrid bun I do. Haha 😂
First of all, this is so encouraging for me!! My extended family are German Baptist but I wasn’t raised in that. However, my entire life I’ve been drawn to the anabaptist/Mennonite/Amish lifestyle! My whole life I have fought and toiled with this!!! I am 36 years old now and I am just now recognizing that I think it’s personal convictions from the Lord! But I feel so so so alone because I know no one else around me doing this or believing these things! When I heard your videos that you live in Ohio my heart leaped for joy!! I live in Ohio!! I would LOVE to meet you in person sometime!!!! I know that’s a bit crazy being strangers and such haha!
Aww I would love to meet you too! I can’t imagine what it would be like to be in your shoes but God bless you and I hope you feel peace about whatever decision you make ♥️
God bless you! I treasure the mennonites. You are a witness to those of lost in the world. You do help us who are being guided by the Spirit to headcover.
God has asked me to obey Him in this. I have a hard time because noone I know does this. What part of the hair should be covered do you think? How covered? There are so many styles. If your church does not do it.
thank you!!! I really want to become mennonite because ill be honest im not in love with this generations lifestyle. but as a 13 year old with a christian family, im not sure if i can be the only mennonite in the house hold. is there a rule against that?? Any tips/ suggestions to do that?
Ah this is very sweet. Thank you. I’m a Mennonite (a different kind than you) who alsowears a head covering:) Truly what you said about knowing why you wear it and what it means is so important! Love seeing content like this.
Thank you for being honest sister, God bless you. I dont put myself under any denomination, i do cover my head and think its more important to have a relationship with God like you said xxx take care and I pray God will allow you to recover asap
I know this video has been out for a while but maybe you still read this Valerie! I just wanted to say that I support your way of thinking so much and often struggle with being confident about my beliefs even though they are really strong and I am convicned of their truth for me personally. I am a young Muslim because I believe in this and not because someone's told me to do so and I truely believe in the same God you do. There is so much of what you say that I absolutely share and support. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more of your thoughts! Blessing from Germany
Could you explain Holderman Mennonite, compared to Mennonite please, I was raised Mennonite and I'm very convicted to go back to plain closing and head coverings
I just came across your blog and I love your honesty! I was challenged by your beautiful view of the veil! The blog with your hubby answering questions along with you was so cool! Don’t ever stop respecting each other, even when you don’t agree, respect who you both are! God willing, he will be the only hubby you ever have! Love him well, love him gently; have fun together and it sounds like you do🥰 and ditto for him😃
I'm not Mennonite. Im actually Baptist. I wear a headcovering to church. Id like to wear it more often but in the Baptist culture we don't wear head coverings. I just need to be more confident. I know and what head covering represents so I ought to wear it more. I totally agree with your perspective.
if you feel that you should be wearing it -- don't let peer pressure stop you -- consider -- if everyone else wore blue shoes and you wanted to wear black, would it stop you from wearing them? Pray about it !
I love Jesus! I was raised in a Baptist Church and still attend an Independent Baptist Church. And, I’ve been struggling with that verse. Sometimes I feel like I should be wearing a head covering. Sometimes I do at home. Please pray for me that God will show me what He wants for me. ❤️🙏
Your hair is your hair covering .New International Version but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. I neither have long hair or wear a covering . If God convicted me of this I would . I fell off a horse at my Menonite friends. house and having hurt my neck long hair is to heavy . So I wear it short .Raised Baptist now pentecostal
Hey I’m new here! :) I just got into the journey of coverings.. I absolutely love my hair out but am struggling figure out hairstyles with covering and my hair out, would love to see a video with open hairstyles with a covering :)
ThATs why I don't cut my hair, my hair is my covering!!! I'm Pentecostal, don't know if you have a lot of those in your area but its nice seeing modest dressed vlogers!
Thank you! I actually have no idea how many Pentecostal people we have around here but I’m sure they’re there! 😁 I love hearing everyone’s way of doing things 🥰
You did a good job on explaining it all! It always comes down to what Jesus is laying on each person's heart. If you truly want to know what He wants you to do and ask Him, He will show you how He wants you to do
Thanks for this tutorial. This Mennonite covering style is my favorite as its so light weight and I live in Florida. I have super thick hair and havent quite figured out how to wear this style and not look weird. I'm the only person I know that covers, so thos was very inspiring.
Thank you for this, this was a beautiful video! ❤️ I have recently felt convicted about wearing a head covering and my husband and I are looking forward to attending a Mennonite church near us in Wisconsin. I know each church is so different, but in general do Mennonite women always wear their hair up in public? I know they usually do by us (in buns) and braids are usually worn by young girls but I never see them in women, so I was just curious.
Trying to braid my hair and my fingers hate me 😆 I’ve never been able to French braid, but I’ll keep trying this Dutch braid, it does feel a little easier. Practice practice practice
Can you share places that I could purchase veils like yours? I've been feeling convicted to start wearing head coverings. Thank you for the awesome inspiration!
Thank you.... this was interesting. I appreciate that you shared this. I didn’t really know about Mennonites or Anabaptists until last year. I started researching my great grandmothers history and started to learn about religious groups that came out of Germany and Wales. I grew up in Australia and moved to the USA in 2019. I’m a mother to two teen boys, wife, sister and daughter. Lots to learn.
Hey! I have visited a few Mennonite communities and I always ask what they wash their hair with! It looks so clean, light and healthy. They always just smile and don’t answer! Pleeeeease share the hair secret
Thank you for recommending the Daily grace company I’ve been looking for a great Christian site to get some stuff for myself I needed a new devotional book and they have amazing stuff thank you so much
I find the verse in 1 Corinthians very interesting. I believe it means keeping hair uncut AS a covering (as you mentioned) and most Mennonites I've met believe no cutting AND a covering then I know some who cut hair, but you cut and wear covering daily, yet some cut hair and wear a covering only at church. It's really all over the board, but after diving further on this verse (pretty much the only verse in regards to hair coverings or cutting) I've found that a woman's hair is her glory and it is a sign of submission to God to keep it uncut.
Hi Valerie The only reason you stand out my darling is because you are a beautiful grounded young woman . I love the way you dress it’s so feminine and I admire the fact that you dress modestly. Good luck with the wisdom teeth my daughter had hers out about 3 years ago. She was ok could only eat soft things for a while but it wasn’t a problem. I had a tooth out last Tuesday and I am having more out over the next 3 weeks (old age I’m 65). God bless you both and take care and keep safe. 👵
Hello Valerie Just wanted to say hope you are feeling a little better today after the dentist appointment yesterday. Keep safe and keep well both of you. God Bless 💐
Hello Valerie Just a quick hello from a very wet and windy Somerset (England) Well this time last week you had your wisdom teeth out, and I was wondering how you were doing. I hope you and Chip are both well and keeping safe. I’m isolating and have my shopping delivered I have only been to the dentist to have 2 teeth out but everything was really planned out before they let you in. I’m sitting knitting 🧶 a shawl now so I think I had better concentrate. God Bless you both. 👵
Hi! I’ve been wanting to start wearing a veil. Where would you recommend getting them? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find one. I love yours, and was wondering were you got yours?
Hey! It always warms my heart when I hear someone say they would like to start wearing a veil 🥰 I actually get mine from a local store, but I know you can get them online. This website has some nice ones! www.headcoveringveils.com/blackfabrics.htm
Here's what early church father Tertullian said about the problem of abbreviated veils in his day: Because you can’t avoid wearing a veil, you should not find some other way to nullify it. That is, by going about neither covered nor bare. For some, with their turbans and woollen bands, do not veil their head, but bind it up; protected, indeed, in front, but, where the head properly lies, bare. Others are to a certain extent covered over the region of the brain with linen coifs of small dimensions-I suppose for fear of pressing the head-and not reaching quite to the ears. If they are so weak in their hearing as not to be able to hear through a covering, I pity them. Let them know that the whole head constitutes “the woman.” Its limits and boundaries reach as far as the place where the robe begins. The region of the veil is co-extensive with the space covered by the hair when unbound; in order that the necks too may be encircled. For it is they which must be subjected, for the sake of which “power” ought to be “had on the head:” the veil is their yoke. Arabia’s heathen females will be your judges, who cover not only the head, but the face also. But how severe a chastisement will they likewise deserve, who remain uncovered even during the recital of the Psalms and at any mention of the name of God? For even when they are about to spend time in prayer itself, they only place a fringe, tuft [of cloth], or any thread whatever on the crown of their heads. And they think that they are covered! (Source: On The Veiling of Virgins)
You do more with your beautiful hair than most modern women who have chopped it off, burnt it off with bleach trying to be blonde! Your veil is small and it does't seem to interfere with your hairstyling, more like complementing it...I do not intend to promote vanity, all people deserve to look beautiful in a descent manner of course. Have a nice day
Love this video! When I first started wearing a veil, I couldn’t find any videos on UA-cam with hairstyle suggestions or even young women talking about why they cover their heads. Now there are several videos by young ladies, and I absolutely love that! I was wondering though, where you get your veils?
Cherilyn Gingerich thank you! I actually get my veils from local shops in my area, but check out Joyces coverings and veils. She has an online shop selling veils 😉
Valerie Keim yes me too! I have family that purchases from her. I have always used www.gloryandgrace.net/ and love her selection, but I also love finding new ladies to purchase from as well.
It’s honestly kind of hard to know...I’m afraid I’m not much help cause I always try them on in person. I’ve never ordered one online before, but I would just try my best to measure my head where I want it covered. 🤷🏼♀️ sorry I’m not much help!
There are some mennonites that wear a veil with their hair down. I guess for me it is very convenient, yes 😂 but it’s also a way for me to cover it better. 🥰 I’m honestly not sure if there is a specific reason for wearing it up though
Hello, my name is Valerie too, so I had to say hi!!! I love your video. I myself am a Southern Baptist, but I live near several Mennonites and they always look so feminine and godly. God bless you!
God hears everyone's prayers, no matter what....no matter what we are wearing, or not wearing. Everyone has the right to believes what they want, but I choose to not wear specific things. like a head covering, or shaving my head and wearing a wig like in the Hasidic religion, Islamic religion. etc. I know God will always hear me, and love me no matter how I am dressed. My question to women who do wear these things is, what do you think would happen to you if you chose to not wear this in your community? Interestingly enough, usually men don't have to do these things.
This is one example where men are held to the same, but opposite standard. They’re instructed to uncover their heads to pray in this same passage and to this day, most men still remove their hats during prayer- even in circles where women don’t commonly cover their heads.
When I try to decide what to do with my life I always read "Romans 14 and it says do not judge a man whose faith is weak and only eats vegetables and also don't judge your brother for eating meat." It shows that we all honor God in different ways.
Prayers for you as you have your wisdom teeth removed! I think most denominations have differences between different churches. I was raised Missionary Baptist and still attend a Missionary Baptist church but there are definitely some differences from the church I was raised in. The main thing is that both teach the Word of God. It took me a long time to be comfortable and truly know what I believe and why I believe it. Love your videos!
Hi, I respect and I appreciate ur faith. I wear long skirts never wore pants in my life. Im a Christian TOO been married for 7yrs. I like & believe in the scripture u quoted PLEASE NOTE THE SAME SCRIPTURE AS IT CONTINUES IN VERSE 15. I QUOTE "BUT IF A WOMAN HAVE LONG HAIR, IT IS A GLORY TO HER: FOR HER HAIR IS GIVEN HER FOR A COVERING.
The Word of God does say that "for her hair was given to her as covering". I believe that is the main reason we don' t use a veil. Our hair is our veil. I don't believe it's wrong to wear a veil just that if you pray without a cloth veil its not a disrepect to God. He will hear our prayers and heart even if we don't wear a veil. Just giving my thoughts, God bless you in your walk with God. I love watching your channel.
Thanks for sharing! I love that you shared your thoughts, even though they’re different from mine. Everyone does things differently and that’s OK! Have a great day!
The scripture says your hair is FOR a covering. Meaning....it should be covered. If you read about the man not having his head covered it is not referring to his hair. Otherwise Christian men would need to have a shaved head without hair.
@@mountpleasantacademy1293 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head..." God was talking about not covering his head with something like a hat or cap etc. God knew a man would have hair on his head and knew a man would not be dishonoring him just for having hair. He created man to have hair so he shouldn't WEAR something on his head to pray as to not dishonor God. So a woman doesn't need to worry about wearing a cloth covering because God gave her a covering,( Her hair is given to her for a covering.) God given covering - her hair. 1 Corin11: 3-16
I’m a Mennonite, but I don’t wear a vail. I don’t wear skirts. No woman in my family wears vails or skirts and we don’t put our hair in buns. We wear jeans and shirts. We don’t go to church all the time or pray or read the Bible a lot. Am I still a good Mennonite if my family and I don’t follow the traditional roles? We don’t follow roles, we kind of do what we want, but we are still Mennonites. I mean yeah, there are so many different types, but I don’t know. I still believe in God and stuff. But I’ve seen other Mennonite videos and sometimes I don’t feel like a good Mennonite. I don’t know what to do about that.
I have some friends that are Mennonite but don’t wear skirts or veils. And yes there are soooo many different types! None of them are better than the rest. I guess as long as you know where you stand with God, that’s the most important thing. Sometimes I feel like I (and just the Mennonite in general) put too much faith in our denomination. 🙈 while there is nothing wrong with it, it should never be an idol. That’s just my thoughts 🥰 thanks for sharing!
Awe!!! 58 minutes into the video. .... way too fast! I wanted to really see how to style my hair as I also have long hair and want to start wearing it up instead of down.
I was arrainged with several people. None of them worked out. Lately i got into a weird non religious cult and now all i wanna do is live with the amish

@Goldiloxandthethreebears As soon as I read your comment, I knew we were of the same faith 😃
I agree with you, I can also relate in what you are speaking. I like your hair style for it is beautiful.

Fellow Baptist here, I love this video too!!! It's not our culture, but I agree with you, I think it's so godly
I’m glad I found you. Good luck with the wisdom teeth!
So much more than a hairstyle video thank you luv God bless
I love your explanation! I am definitely convicted to wear a head covering as well, and don’t do it just cause our church does it!

Well said! Thank you for sharing
I wear a head covering during times of prayer. I am Christian but work at a muslim college. They are really supportive x Go 1 Corinthians 11.
I’ve had Muslim friends approach me and say that they appreciate my head covering and modesty.
That looks very pretty. I wear a head covering that covers the whole top of my head..I am Mennonite also.
Hello Valerie
Just wanted to say hope you are feeling a little better today after the dentist appointment yesterday. Keep safe and keep well both of you. God Bless 💐
Hello Valerie
Just a quick hello from a very wet and windy Somerset (England) Well this time last week you had your wisdom teeth out, and I was wondering how you were doing.
@@ValerieKeim Thank you so much! God bless! 💕
It also says in the Bible that hair is the woman's head covering.
Here's what early church father Tertullian said about the problem of abbreviated veils in his day:
Because you can’t avoid wearing a veil, you should not find some other way to nullify it.

Great video and conviction! What Mennonite church/conference do you belong to and does your church livestream? Thank you! Blessings!
Yes our church has been doing livestream for the past few sundays due to COVID. We go to Gospel Haven Mennonite
Love your video and explaination.
Have a nice day
Hi Valerie! I’m enjoying all your videos! In case no one has ever told you...you resemble the actress Anna Sophia Robb quite a bit!! 😊
That’s hilarious! I’ve actually heard that before 😂🙈
Thank you for sharing why you cover. That was really wonderful. What age do Mennonite girls typically start veiling/covering?
There’s not really a set age, it just varies ☺️
Love this video! When I first started wearing a veil, I couldn’t find any videos on UA-cam with hairstyle suggestions or even young women talking about why they cover their heads. Now there are several videos by young ladies, and I absolutely love that! I was wondering though, where you get your veils?
Cherilyn Gingerich thank you! I actually get my veils from local shops in my area, but check out Joyces coverings and veils. She has an online shop selling veils 😉
Valerie Keim okay thanks☺️. I’ve checked out her site but never bought any form her before, so maybe I will have to.☺️
I’ve personally never purchased anything from her either, but I have heard about her 😉
Valerie Keim yes me too! I have family that purchases from her. I have always used www.gloryandgrace.net/ and love her selection, but I also love finding new ladies to purchase from as well.
@@CherilynGingerich thanks so much. Just ordered. So many won't ship to Australia
thank you for sharing!!!!! love you!!!
Interesting... I also entered that giveaway!
I love the style ! Where do you buy your viel ?
I got mine from a local shop in Berlin OH 😀
Where is the black veil from?thank you
I got it at a local store here in Ohio called Berlin Fabrics and Clothing 🥰
Thank you! That's a bit far away from Austria,Europe 🤣
Hi there! How big does a veil have to be to be considered a covering? Do bows or clips count? Headbands or wraps?
Some people do wear headbands or wraps, and as far as the size, it depends a lot on what kind of Mennonite you are or even personal preference 🥰
Hi Valerie
Just a quick hello and to say take care tomorrow and we will be thinking of you. God Bless 👵
Aww thank you! That means a lot!
I need help with ordering my veil. I don't know how to size it. I'm getting mine from Joyce's Coverings. How do I know what size to get? 🤷
It’s honestly kind of hard to know...I’m afraid I’m not much help cause I always try them on in person. I’ve never ordered one online before, but I would just try my best to measure my head where I want it covered. 🤷🏼♀️ sorry I’m not much help!
@@ValerieKeim Thanks for your reply though.☺️
I understand the head covering part but why is the hair always worn up? Just for convenience? ☺️
There are some mennonites that wear a veil with their hair down. I guess for me it is very convenient, yes 😂 but it’s also a way for me to cover it better. 🥰 I’m honestly not sure if there is a specific reason for wearing it up though
Where do you get your veils?
I get mine from a local store, Grace and Joy Co
Thank you for sharing 🥰
I'm not Mennonite. But I think it's wonderful to be a Mennonite! Being a Mennonite is great!
So cute
Do you watch Afrimax E glish
Amen
What size is your veil? I am needing a new one and not sure what size just know I want smaller lol
Haha I get it! I think mine might be a 7 double narrow or something? But wow it’s been so long since I’ve gotten a new veil that I can’t remember! 🙈
How is this veil made?
It’s just black lace material and black lace trim 🥰
@@ValerieKeim ❤❤❤
Praying in Jesus name
Is there any wrong way to worship God? Love your videos!
I'm Mennonite. I was wondering what conference do you belong to?
I’m honestly not entirely sure...I would have said we’re independent. I do know our church is not BMA 🤷🏼♀️☺️
Your "Extra" Beautiful, Valerie :)
Your not really covering it I can see your hair
Awe!!! 58 minutes into the video. .... way too fast! I wanted to really see how to style my hair as I also have long hair and want to start wearing it up instead of down.
It's okay, I kept Pausing the video, got it love the 2 hairstyles great video as always! 😊
How are you feeling? Got the wisdom teeth taken care of?
Wishing you well.
Thank you! I’m feeling as good as can be expected i guess! ☺️
