- Happy Tuesday! Today's video is a super fun cooking video! I wanted to give you a quick peek into how we do Sunday Dinner in the Mennonite culture. It's common to invite a BUNCH of people for dinner and feed them like Kings! Below are a few of the recipes I made. As I said in the video, some of the recipes aren't my recipes so I sadly cannot share them. I apologize! I'll see you next week!
How I prepared the Chicken:
Butter Mixture:
Several Sticks of butter, room temperature
Chopped fresh parsley
The juice of 1 lemon
Several cloves of garlic, minced
Salt & Pepper to taste
Onion powder
(several tablespoons of olive oil, optional)
Combine & place under the skin of the Chicken, as well as on the top of the skin. Stuff chicken with onions, lemon halves, fresh parsley & cloves of garlic. Drizzle with Olive oil, this helps prevent the butter from burning!
Add onions to the roasting pot to add extra flavor while baking! Also add some water to the pot to prevent your chicken from drying out!
Tip: If you are serving mashed potatoes, consider making gravy from the chicken broth!
Peanut Butter Pie recipe:
Crumb topping:
3/4 Cup powdered sugar
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
Combine and mix until crumbly. Spread half in the bottom of Baked pie shell.
Pudding:
2/3 Cup sugar
1/3 Cup clear gel or corn starch
3 egg yolks
2 1/2 Cup Milk
Combine until thickened, remove from heat and add:
2 Tablespoons butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
fill crust & let it cool. Top with whipped cream & remaining crumbs.

Recipes are the one thing that has no copywriting. Recipes are shared throught the world willingly. Chefs inspire each other.
My mom taught me to wash as I go. Not only is it better to not have a sink full, but its also easier to clean them, because you don't have dried/ stuck on foods to scrub off!
Yessss! My mom sounds a lot like your mom!
Mine too and my daughters also do the same thing.
The pre-shredded cheese has a coating on it that is a preservative to keep it from drying out. A block of cheese will also sometimes have a coating but you quickly grate it off. This is what makes the difference. When you shred it yourself there is no coating and the cheese melts and blends into your dish smoothly.
I think it's cornstarch put on the cheese, not to prevent drying out, but to prevent it sticking together in one big glob during shipping, and temperature changes.
Often potato starch!
You're a sweetheart, doing all that cooking. Your husband is a lucky man. I always admired how the amish girls cook and work hard to take care of the home. God bless.
We are from Iran and love making different cultures food...this looks delicious. We will definitely make it for our friends. Thanks for the nice video
I love making Persian food. Stilling learning though.
I like your thought process on making the pies, bread and potatoes ahead to save time. Have you considered using real butter to make your pie crust, for health reasons? I switched 10 years ago when I learned how terrible Cristco is for our body. God made butter. Thank you for sharing.
I loved this! It’s not about the food itself, it’s the love that went in to making it and I certainly saw your love!
Aw, thanks for this comment!
This was such a sweet little video! Felt like I was just hanging out with a friend. Love your music choice throughout it.
Aw, i love that it felt like 2 friends hanging out, that's my goal!
You should make a Amazon wish list😊 no doubt there would be people that would bless you with little things.. like a kitchen aid cheese grater🙂 you share lots of good wholesome content with everyone👏
Aw, your so sweet! I'll consider it in the future, I would just feel bad having people send me stuff!!
@@Kim_Martin I think people want to give back to you in return for everything you share.
A wish list is, also, a great personal tool. Home wish list, Me wish list, Baby wish list, Hubby wish list. Great for birthdays, holidays or just when something is needed.
@@Kim_Martin love ur videos. I am new to your channel. And for us newbies and not experience with cooking a whole lot can u please just tell us the basic instructions like how long do u cook the chicken and on what degrees. And just list the ingredients when making your recipes- ty. God bless
Plus, Amazon ships to you without revealing your home address.
Stay safe!
I agree!

1/3 cup chopped onion
1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup

His can be layered if you like with corn flake mixture and butter and it can be placed in lower temp oven while at church. 😉
You are a Rock Star!!! I love that you cook for real, real ingredients, from scratch 🤗. My Mom taught me and my sisters to make that hot soapy water and wash everything as we went along. One of the best lessons that she taught. Nothing beats food prepping and cooking in a clean kitchen, and at the end of the process, it's like you never made a mess. You are a joy to watch🙂
Your mom and my mom sound very similar! Thanks for your comment!
Just found your channel and I love watching such a young homemaker! For years every Saturday I would start my prep for our large Sunday meal after church. Most people don't cook from scratch and it was so refreshing to watch you! May God Bless You with your new baby!! ❤️
Aw your comment made my day! thanks so much!
You know, they sell frozen shredded hash brown potatoes in the grocery store? Some already have onion in them. They work great for cheesy potatoes and save so much time. No one would notice the difference, since they're actually potatoes shredded, then frozen. Once I found them, it changed everything!
We have to work smarter, not harder, as our families grow!
I just happened onto your Sunday Lunch video. I love that you do this tradition. I remember my Grandma, doing these things to get ready for all of us to come over after church. I especially loved how every ingredient in your menu was fresh, and made from scratch. Single I ingrediant foods, are so healthy. Thank you for your time and skill. I subscribed and look forward to more cooking videos.
Aw thank you! More cooking videos to come!
I love your beautiful blue eyes. I love to bake fresh for my family every week too. I make shokupann, jewish deli rye and sometimes a nice sourdough boule.
I have never been to your channel but I very much enjoyed your relaxing cooking and calm demeanor. Your husband and family are very blessed to have you! Hope the meal was lovely :)
Thanks for the great video!
I love seeing other “young homemakers”! This video is so relaxing and all the food looks AMAZING! I’m 27 and we have 3 kids☺️
At least twice a month I cook a big Sunday dinner. My kids love it and so do my parents since they are always invited as well. Your kitchen is beautiful and the video was lovely.
Such a good tradition! Bless your heart for doing it twice a month!
Chefs tip: make a rack out out veggies in bottom of roasting pan. Whatever you have. Onions, celery, carrots, fennel, leaks, lemons, herbs and lay chicken on top. #1 no chicken stuck to pan #2 Great chefs treat #3 Fantastic au jus or gravy❣️❣️❣️ GREAT video❣️❣️❣️
This sounds INCREDIBLE. I will have to try it!
I miss having family and friends over.
What a meal ! That is a lot of work, for anyone, let alone pregnant. Hope you got some feet-up time. Wonderful video. :)
I love seeing Mennonite's share their culture online! I always wished I was Mennonite. My great-grandfather was Mennonite in Lancaster County, but left the community do to his religious beliefs. He passed before I was born, so I never got to hear his experience.
A lot of work and time well spent. Thanks for sharing.
After 16 years of marriage and too many dishes to ever count I can't believe I am just this advice. Washing the dishes as you go or loading the dishwasher throughout the day is brilliant! I love to spend my Saturdays in the kitchen but the dishes after are exhausting and my feet and back hurt so bad by then. Lol! Thank you so much!
This is the kind of stress relief content I'm looking for! Thanks!
Such hard work!! You are amazing. Everything looks incredible.
Thank you so much! it was a lot of work, but i truly love cooking!
Hello!🥰 I’m from far north Idaho and I’m a Christian as well. We live in a community where there’s lots of Mennonite sects. I was wondering Sunday meal is an every Sunday event and also I love all the different parts of your meal.🥰 Thank you for sharing this and congratulations on your upcoming baby! What a blessing and you look beautiful in your dress!💗
Your the second video I've seen about mennonite Sunday dinner's. First time seeing them. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ amen❤️
You are an accomplished cook. The rolls! Your family is very blessed.
I love your videos. So glad to see that the tradition of having Sunday company for lunch continues. My parents loved to do this and I loved it.
It's a really great tradition to have!!
Beautiful sunday prep , wow
I would just like to say that I barely started going in the Mennonite church and the people from the Mennonite Church have been coming over to my house bringing glorious amounts of food and I just wondered how it comes out so perfect I'm so fascinated with how they are so humble and so nice and I just love your videos because I want to learn everything about them in the Mennonite people and maybe one of these days convert so thank you again for your videos you're very intuitive they're very educational and are very positive you can't really find that on the internet today so I just think you again from Navajo land Arizona
hey girl- this was so good! Loved the video!!😀😉 Such yummy looking food! Enjoying watching you. Y'all have a wonderful weekend🥰
I’d love to see more of Sunday dinner stuff- I enjoyed this! :)
Aw good! Hopefully I can make another video in the future!
I used to make chicken like that, It's actually really nice if you put sliced lemon under the skin too (on top of the butter) You made me tired just watching you work so hard!
Just seeing you.
My youngest son's birthday was next in line. I asked what he wanted for his birthday. He replied peanut butter, (bc it is his favorite thing Ever.) Of course, I asked peanut butter ..cake?, cookies?, brownies?, fudge?, pie? PIE! lol
He had never been exposed to a peanut butter pie, but even his young mind knew it had to be FANTASTIC.
I had only known a cheesecake like peanut butter pie. When my aunt heard what he wanted, she sent me a recipe she had never used in the 40+ yrs she had it. This recipe differs from yours only by ~25% more sugar.
He and all of us Loved his birthday dessert! We plan to gift them for Easter.
Thank you for sharing.
Hah that's so fun though! Pie is always a good idea!
I enjoyed your video. What a change from the other mennonite video. You're a very well trained wife. Lots of experience indeed.
New subscriber! So excited to have many more vlogs to watch. Oh and I am a born and raised Indiana Hoosier. Glad to know you and your sweet family are here in the state with me & mine..
Oh wow, I only cook like this 3 times a year! You're awesome.
Loving your channel and this video! You inspired me to start "Sunday Lunch" at our home after church! Please keep doing this! You could do "What's for Sunday Lunch/Dinner?"
I'm so glad you did! Sunday Dinner is a great tradition to have!
Absolutely! Shredded cheese off the block is better. They add starch and stuff to those preshredded bags to keep it from sticking together.
Yep. It doesn’t melt well at all. My mother in law put her cheese in the freezer (she didn’t let it become frozen) because it was easier to grate
I really, really like the way you did the chicken! ! I will have to try that.. Yes, more cooking videos please!!!❤
Thank you!! It tasted amazing!
Hi Kim💕! I’m a brand new subscriber and I am loving this video! It’s so refreshing to see someone young, and it’s clear that you love your life! It’s wonderful to see how hard you work to create blessings from God for your family-you are SO appreciated💕🙏🙌💕!
Aw, thank you. I really do feel blessed to have the life that i do.
You are the best little cook ever! You kind of remind me of myself & my sisters when we were young!! It kind of sounds like I’m Bragging but my mom was an amazing cook & did a grrreat job teaching us! Remember when we’re old we can say anything & getaway with it! Lol
Gods blessing with your new baby! 😘
Oh wow. I didn't even think of having a skin of soapy water. That's genius. So simple but helpful.
Your Sunday lunch is a LOT like ours. I'm not from a Mennonite home but the recipes and everything are very similar. I make my turkey like that as well. The butter under and on top of the skin makes it so delicious!
A kitchen tip: Put a damp towel under your cutting board so it doesn't move around.
Just found your channel and really enjoying watching you!
I’m 28 years old I’m having to learn all this as I go. No one taught me anything. So youtube and trail and error are my teachers
Aw I hope you find my videos helpful
@@Kim_Martin had my baby in the car on the way to the hospital 🤦🏻♀️
My ex husband is Mennonite,
I miss my mother in laws Sunday lunch ❤️
She outdid herself every weekend cooking for a very large family after church.
Thanks for the video👍
These all looked so good! A roast chicken is very typical for Sunday lunch here :) can’t beat it!
It really is the best!!
I just discovered your channel today. What a treat. Both my parents grew up in Mennonite Brethren homes in Canada and my Mum was a fabulous cook.
I love the music in this video. I love how you talk to all of us, like we are in the kitchen sitting on a bar stool. I’m praying God continues to bless your viewers through you and that He blesses you and yours as well. You’re doing a great job!
I am 67. If you need a spare Grandma to pray for you, count me in! 😊
I love that, I want everyone that watches my videos to feel like they're just sitting at my counter, chatting with me! Your comment made me smile so much! Also, always need more grandma's💕
Just subscribed. Would love a grocery haul. Or week of dinners!
Oh, good ideas!! Thanks!
I am so blessed by you! I love your personality and it warms my heart that when you talk to us, it is like you know us all! 💕 you are beautiful and charismatic!
You're doing a wonderful job, I will definitely try your recipes. I have a suggestion for you, if you place a damp towel or dish cloth under your cutting board, it won't move around and will help you to conserve energy. I have subscribed and love what I see.
I was waiting for the lard crust.
I have to tell you, your skin is amazing! Beautiful!
Everything looked so good, we go to my in-law’s for Sunday lunch every Sunday bless her heart but she loves it, and she makes her hot rolls the same as you ☺️ on special occasions she likes to make the kids bread bears! Those pies looked delicious!
Bread bears? That sounds so fun!!!!!
Just found your blog and love it! Not only are you a great cook, you are very wise and kind for such a young girl. I'm a 68 yr old grandma in southeast PA. Im still trying to learn how to cook! Ha!
So glad you are enjoying my channel!
Same here Wanda, I just found her and love her sweet demeanor, energy and wisdom. I’m a 71 yr old great grandma in DFW area of Texas and learn new things from UA-cam everyday❣️
You are so cute! Yes!! Shredding your own cheese is way better than using store-bought pre-shredded cheese in the bags. The texture is entirely different and it makes anything cheesy taste 10 times better. Thank you for showing us how you cook and prep for Sunday dinner. 💜
Yes it’s better as store bought they add saw dust so it doesn’t stick... definitely better to grate yourself 😊
My mother in law put her cheese in the freezer (not frozen solid) to make grating easier.
Love your video. Just subscribed! I really don’t know much about being Mennonite, but I love the traditional roles of the women being home makers and focusing on family. I can’t help but think they are much more content and live simpler and more fulfilling lives.
Where do I find the description box?
Bless Your Heart. Such a labor of LOVE
I love cooking videos, too.
I sure hope your guest appreciates all the work you have put into this dinner. You have got to be wore out. Got Bless you.
You’re so organized and energetic! Lovely wife
😊 thank you
I just found your channel. I'm so glad I did. 🥰 all that food you prepared looked amazing.
Thank you!
This looks so delicious love how it was all made from scratch 😋
Looks really good I like your videos you do a fantastic job God bless you
Just found your channel and GOODNESS this food looks delicious! I love everything about this 💕
Salad protip: make it in layers! My mom taught me this -- if you layer your greens with your toppings, then it's easier to get a better serving and the people getting the last servings get toppings too instead of just the greens!(:
My mamaw and papaw are Presbyterian and this is is what Sunday lunch looks like. They usually have more veggies from the garden/freezer/canning and pies from that too but very similar! Lots of Saturday prepping!
We always have a big family dinner at my mom's house every Sunday after church and it is my favorite day of the week for sure.
That's such a blessing to have your family close by!!
First time watching, and as I am vegan I would not normally have been interested but I do like to prepare a special meal for Sabbath Dinner so was curious. My heart was warmed by your hard work and efficiency and I am sure your family and guests were blessed. I pray, sweet girl, that you will be in health with your pregnancy and have a safe delivery!
Thanks for watching! You're comment was so sweet!
Vegan here too but still interested! Wendy, you could veganize all of this easily and make a seitan loaf (make it like a roast beef-yum!) for the “meat”. Hmm maybe i should start a channel haha.
Great video. Those potatoes look amazing.
I loved this video so much Kim!! Every time I watch your videos it inspires me more to want my own home one day💕thank you for inspiring all of us girls and women out here to stay home and take care of our families. You are a blessing🥰
Awww🥰 your comment made my day!! So glad you are enjoying my channel! Thank you for the encouragement!
@@Kim_Martin you are most welcome🥰😉
My 1st time to your channel and it was so warm and welcoming! It's always fun to see different techniques and interpretations on recipes. It brings back happy memories of when I had a similar weekend routine. I couldn't help but think you had to have been exhausted from all Sat in the kitchen, esp with the sweet little "marshmallow" keeping you company all day! For about 20 yrs I lived a short 10 mins from Lancaster County, PA & it was so therapeutic living in that part of the world. Overall, people are so good, calmer, forgiving, live a simpler life, hard workers and grounded in the Gospel and family values; kinda like the US used to be in the 1950's. The farms were beautiful, and the homemade food delicious and comforting!
And the quilts and woodwork of amazing quality and simple beauty.
For your green beans, were they fresh, bottled or frozen? I'll have to see if you previously posted that recipe.
Thank you for sharing your sweet spirit.
They are canned! I have a video on my channel about how I can green beans!
Kim, your Sunday lunch looks so delicious! Thank you for sharing with us.
Whose recipes are really their own...cookbooks, ancestors.....it’s all a melting pot anyway.
Amelia, that is very true.
We also invent our own recipes, so I get what she is saying.
Yeah, I was disappointed to hear that she would share recipes from pinterest 😆😆😆...disappointing.
Kim how about a good cookbook ..
Right i just really wanna know what she was putting in the shredded potatoes...and what uf she just told us the ingredients but not the measurements....🤔🤔
I'm a new subscriber. 🙏 it has been so peaceful watching you prep and cook. I felt like I was behind the camera and we were hanging out in the kitchen ☺ Great video, love your recipes. You have so much energy. Be sure to take care of yourself during your first pregnancy. I'm hooked on watching you 💕
Thank you for your comment!! I love that you felt like it was just two friends hanging out in the kitchen, that's my goal!
Is this potato dish recipe also referred to as "funeral potatoes" to some? Thanks! Everything looks so good & what a great channel I just discovered. 🥰
awh I'm so excited to find your channel my grandparents were raised amish I live just outside of the Grabill and harlan area in indiana! and I looooove cooking!!!
When you took the Dr. Pepper out of the fridge, my first thought was, "What was THAT going to be a secret ingredient for? What amazing thing am I going to learn?" And then you took a sip! It's been a long time since I have been treated to such a beautiful Mennonite Sunday dinner. I think if I want one now, I will have to make it. Thank you for your inspiration.
🤣🤣 I love that!
Just found your channel so glad I did!
Even without the recipes, watching your methods was really instructional - thank you for this lovely video!
Aw, thanks so much!
Kim, I had no idea you had a channel. Nicely done. See you in June! Love, the Carters from Texas.
Hey!! So glad you found my channel!
Great video, good job! I have a few cookbooks ‘ Mennonite girls can cook!’ and I enjoy them. It’s definitely rich cooking. I love the bread and soup recipes. I am Ukrainian and I cook a lot as well from a young age. I feel like sharing this on my page so that millennial girls can learn a thing or two lol!! Great job again, don’t forget to put those feet up mama you deserve it!
Aw thanks, my husband gave me a foot massage so it was worth it😍
@@Kim_Martin oh well then that’s perfect!!
I’d love to see a flip threw of your recipe book
A beautiful meal prepared by a beautiful young lady. Thank you for sharing.
Was so excited and you are sweet but the reason I love cooking videos is so I can watch and then make it myself lol
A bunch of the recipes are in the description box!
Omg ! I absolutely love your channel. I am so glad I it popped up . I am definitely subscribing.❤️
Your rolls & potatoes look delicious!!! Thank you for sharing your talents!!!
Glad you like them!
I just started following you. I love all of your yummy creations! I LOVE cooking. I work full-time and am a student. I wish I had more time to cook like that 😁 So yummy!
Aw thank you! Cooking really can be so enjoyable!
Greetings from Georgia!
Just found your channel looking forward to watching you cook
❤from Mimi’s Country Cooking
The whole meal looks absolutely delicious!
Wow you seem like such a sweetheart! You make cooking a whole chicken seem not so terrifying lol (I can burn tea lol) thanks for your awesome video. God bless you and keep you and yours safe!
Pump a little lemon zest into the butter mix 🤌🏼 lemon juice flavour burns away so you have acidity but not much lemon flavour but the oils of the zest release wit the heat and you get all that lemony goodness 😊
Hey love! Pre-shredded cheese is coated with things to make them not stick together, hence why they won’t melt together! So you’re completely right as to why shredded yourself is best!
Great choice on the Dr. Pepper.
Watching you cook reminds me of my family dinners growing up and the foods we liked to make
so many lovely recepies! you are working so hard, the Lord bless you. I will try cooking the chicken, I imagine its gooood ☺️👌
What an amazing meal!!! The food looks perfect 😊
Thank you!!🤭 it sure tasted good!
Hi Kim, I am a new subscriber, watching from Tasmania, Australia. I love you channel so far. Have a fabulous day x
So helpful! I love the washing dishes tip!!
It definitely helps keep the kitchen clean!!
My family makes a similar potato casserole but we mix the potatoes, cheese and cream of chicken sauce together, and top it with butter soaked cornflakes and its so delicious. Adding a teaspoon of Beau monde spice really adds alot of flavor too.
I wanna come for a Sunday lunch. I know I’d be so sick. Lol. But the pie. Ohhhhh yummmmm
😂 haha yes, mennonites cook rich!!
A little hint to warm up the dough quicker is to put it in your oven and turn on the oven light, I will also put a pan on the bottom shelf and add hot water. This is a good way to proof the dough without drying it out. I will use a wet cloth to cover the dough.
