I find the use of the phrase "hard landing" to be confusing and misleading. We should just use the word "crash" -- ie. the MIP crashed on the lunar surface. "Hard landing" makes it somehow sound like MIP or even CY-2 Vikram had stayed roughly intact upon contact with the surface. This is where I like the plain and frank language used by S Somnath -- he clearly calls a crash a crash.
I got to know about MIP through you tweet (reply i guess) where you were telling that CY3 will be third to land on moon if we consided just landing. You made me curious so i searched little about it. Thank you for this video ♥♥♥♥♥
4:48 we are not downplaying MIP But whenever general public says landing on moon they mean soft landing Again Not downplaying MIP hard landing because it can be considered first step
True, but then when we say public what does it mean and what constitutes it And public perception is a function of dumbing down everything and confirming it to some arbitrary record of some sort
Landing at South pole of moon is extremely difficult landing. And soft landing needs precision calculation. All previous countries moon landing happened in Equator region or above Equator which is comparatively easy. India would be first to achieve the South pole soft landing on Moon. Proud of ISRO family and proud of Modiji leadership and his vision.
It is a subject of interpretation. When people talk about first to land, they usually refer to landers doing soft-landings. In that regard CY3 would be first if successful. If it's about first human made object to touch the lunar surface at various locations like you mentioned at 90 deg latitude, the impact probe or be it at 70 deg latitude, CY2...then it's a different interpretation. They shouldn't be put in the same group. You're confusing the public with these multiple interpretations.
Cy3 is so far from the south pole as the astro neel tweet showed Your right interpretation takes importance here But what can't be disputed is MIP was 1st human made object on south pole
@@GareebScientist Absolutely. But when the prevailing discussion is about landing(as opposed to just touching) it is usually in terms of soft landing capabilities not just gravity dive and the eventual impact.
