While I'm lucky not walking out with college debt, I felt this guy's words really encouraged someone like me. So I subbed. 16:51-17:38 Graduated from school (information systems bachelor) learning nothing directly useful to my career. Only fundamentals & starting points of what could have been expanded with a google/YT search and enough motivation. (4 years in, and my hype was only for UI design... because I was more of an artist than a programmer.) For the amount we pay, the curriculum shoulda been more engaging and real. University is broken, society decides you need a random ass degree to be anything, regardless if it has anything to do with the position, or if it helped with your quality of work. It's a sad world. People from my parents' generation are also eating these up like it's fact. Degree > Skill. I've followed orders. But the whole time, I see the painful contrast of what expectation and reality is in THIS profession. There's also some kind of guilt for not being enthused about starting postgraduate, but I tell myself. I have no need for it before settling in a profession I'm SURE to delve into. Need to see if I truly want something like postgraduate study when it barely helps with my quality of work. So that I don't go in there with blank dreams, like last time. For someone like me with lost/mismatched dreams, a reminder to how to build one's career in this industry is wonderful. 🥰 and you shouldn't force yourself taking education if you didn't have passion for it in the first place. Build that, before you enter again. And be fast, don't succumb to the infinite amount of time we have to decide. Anyway. S'why I agree bootcamps help an extent, to supplement formal education. And at least we can choose to learn what we truly lacked.
I attended your last Dribbble workshop. Everything was incredible! Thank you for sharing your expertise. :) I have a course idea: Teach beginners how to set up a portfolio project. Not just designing some random app, or re-designing some business product/service based on no data. Teach us how to set up an individual project that stays true to aiming to solve a problem and the idea that you (the person doing the project) is NOT the user. Basically, it seems like portfolio projects just show you know the very basics. I want to go beyond that.
Thank you so much, Marie for going and enjoying the Dribble workshop- I had such a blast teaching it! Thanks so much for this suggesting, I think you’re onto something!
I don't think this advice aged very well. Don't put your whole basket into boot camps. If you're coming in with predisposed skills you'll have much better chances, however, if you're coming in Green--I don't think it's a good idea. Higher education will always trump boot camps. Like everything else, this boom and trend will end with having only a certification over a degree won't help as much.
Hi, thanks for the opportunity ...pls I like to kn how u enable the startup timer for the live show
