Sewstine is my rolemodel, she is everything I ever want to be: doctor, mother, seamstress, a kind human being with a sense of humor, an inspiring person...and the fact that we have the same favourit Disney princess is just one more thing I admire about her. I loved the yellow ballgown, and I love this one too, but that's not a suprise, she can't make a thing I wouldn't love.
On the point of Anastasia not being a Disney Princess: Disney owns Fox now. Fox owns Anastasia. Anastasia is on Disney+ and was being promoted last december. Anastasia might not have been born a Disney Princess, but she became one.
The little Russian child in me really appreciates this logic. There is actually a somewhat surprising amount of historical clothing accuracy in some parts of the film.
The fiddly bit is getting the waist right, after that it’s plain addition that isn’t too sensitive unless you need the skirt to be a very precise length.
If you don’t want to do the math for a circle skirt, there’s a bunch of calculators online where you just plug in your waist and desired length, and it spits back out how far you need to mark for your waist & hem! No math needed! (I tend to not use them, but I LIKE doing the math myself lol)
Lol I used this to teach my 16 year granddaughter the real life use if geometry. She made the skirt for her rapunzel costume. She had to go and look up the equations and do the calculations and draw it out on the pink sheet.
Sewstine is a Doctor ! You don't become a Doctor without doing math ! Just love the blue dress you are wearing as you record this AND, the one you made. And that beautiful smile you have ! You just radiate joy !
ooh let's interpret it as the bodice has a pointed front, but sometimes it's tucked in or slipped inside the skirt and you're seeing the waistband. Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what the animators intended 😉
As pretty as the ballgowns may be, the everyday clothes are a lot easier to incorporate into the wardrobe of a regular person who doesn’t attend balls very often.
I also love those two dresses for an everyday cosplay! I do need to say that Sleeping Beauty's has always been a favorite formal gown. I just love the neckline and the lines of the dress!
I’ve always liked Ariel’s town dress more than her pink ballgown or her wedding dress. I’ve always been torn on Aurora though, I love her forest dress but the gorgeous color and the white collar bit on her ballgown just make my heart go pitter patter!!
Y'all have no idea how helpful that pocket hack is!!! All of the skirts I've made have been weighed down by the stuff in my pockets lol. Now I can still carry my stuff and have maximum swooshness! Thank you!!!
Bernadette Banner also describes something really similar in her 1890s walking skirt video if you want another example! Every skirt I’ve made since has that piece of tape on the pockets, it’s the best hack ever!!!
I can not even begin to tell you how much I love the idea of every day cosplay, and am adding that idea to my list of things I want to add to my wardrobe!
How do all your makes end up so delightful? Belle was my first favourite princess, because she was a bookworm, and until Mulan came along (a princess who looked like meeee), my only favourite.
I really like what Mariah Pattie did to make her stays go above the nipple line. She boned it up to the nipple line but then extended just the fabric and then added a drawstring. I don’t know if I’m explaining it right but she has a recent video where she discusses her idea and it seemed to work very well
you are literally so cool! I have no clue you you have a full time job as a medical doctor and a young child and on TOP of that you not only sew amazing garments, you ALSO slog through video editing to bring us these videos. You're Wonder Woman!
My current theory is that all Costubers are secretly time travelers and they’re constantly jumping back and forth through time so Sewstine can spend the day working at the hospital and then jump back and spend the same day sewing!
That ensemble is just perfect! Amazing work as usual! As a (French) med student and a sewist I really look up to you, it always amazes me how you seem to manage being a doctor and a mom, having a husband, dogs, being a great seamstress and building these amazing dresses and outfits and STILL finding time to document it for us to witness, and allow us to learn from you. I hope I'll be able to manage my life/work/children/pets to have time for my crafts as well when i'll be a doctor! Thank you very much! 🙏🏻
Short answer - weirdo's unite. Longer answer - love, just love, how you oh-so-casually say, 'I need a corset, so I'll just make one'. Gives me some hope. My half-stays have been in a time-out for a little while now... The outfit is stunningly cute. Well done! I'm in love with the modesty panel - it solves the problem I've been having with wanting to make the half-stays front lacing. Also love the waist tape for the pockets. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown
Being able to say “I need this era of corset, suppose I’ll just make one” is my dream in costuming. I want to make a pair of half-boned stays for the Renaissance Faire this year but I’m so nervous that instead of actually working on them I just procrastinate by studying Patterns of Fashion 5 again 😬
Sewstine... as i started writing this comment and began to think about what i actually wanted to say, i got overwhelmed with emotion. PercyJacksonRox81: there are many of us who, as Sewstine said of herself, have always felt like outsiders. The internet has, for the first time in history, allowed all of those outsiders, from all their little "provincial lives", to connect and see that we are not alone in our differences. Bless you for persevering and bless Sewstine for giving us an opportunity to connect!
This is so great!! I love how you chose the elements you wanted from Belle's dress and then added other things for practicality as well as for fun!! That circle skirt swoosh is divine!
When travel is a thing again, go to Riquewihr, France with this dress! I’m pretty convinced it was inspiration for Belle’s village. It’s an adorable village with a castle up a nearby mountain. Great work on the dress!
I've been torn between wanting all the people I subscribe to on costube to know about Murdoch Mysteries and fearing they'd ruin the costuming for me--but now I've seen you and Nicole Rudolph react favorably and I'm so excited! It's such a fun often ridiculous take on crime solving. I'd love to see whatever you might make inspired by it. Edit so as not to just comment on the ad segment: I'm always interested in the more casual outfits Disney's animated characters get, and your take on it did a great job translating to be fantastically sturdy, comfortable, and twirlable. Thank you for sharing the process!
Oh my heart! I made my daughter a Belle in the blue dress costume (which is how she referred to it) when she was 5. Just the straight Disney pattern but she adored it and so did i. Now that she's all grown up, she might want me to sew one like yours...sorry, Grace, my corset days are over! It is MAGNIFICENT. Sigh.
Came for the everyday disneybounding, stayed for the CHEEKY STITCH IN TIME TEASER!!! 😍😍 So exciting to hear a second season is in the works, and THRILLING to learn that you're involved!! Congratulations!! Also stayed for the doggosheep and the chemise a la reine as casual couch sewing attire. An excellent result and another awesome video!
Oh, i love this dress, especially the pocket in the skirt Anastasia! She has such a great variety of dresses, much more than several disney princesses. Some dresses on her I find very underrepresented, like the blue dress on the ship on their way to Stralsund and her flapper look at the Paris holds the Key.
So gorgeous!! Also I vote Anastasia!! I love her peasant outfit a lot. Also your casual historical/cosplay style really inspires me! I'm starting to shift my own wardrobe to a more purposeful style and I'm leaning towards the 1930s and 40s
for any of my non-uk friends who like murder mystery dramas, i highly recommend Midsomer Murders if you get this platform! It's an iconic British show and it's very good!
This is my favorite of your 'everyday' cosplay outfits. The white blouse and blue corset'stays with that swirly circle skirt are wonderful. I appreciated the demonstration of these boning channels. And, I'm wearing a jacket with pockets taped to a seam for strength. I slow your video down to enjoy even more, unlike most which I speed up. Love the dog and the kid, also. you may have to wear bloomers if you're going to do much public swirling...
3:41 I had a double-take when I saw this because I'm currently using that exact pattern to make a historically-inspired Belle dress. Yours came out so pretty!
The more I follow you the more honestly consider cosplay and Disney bounding. I watch Shadow and Bone because of your panel and loved it! Now thins, I always loved Belle but until you said it I never considered her an outsider. I have been a misfit for most of my life and you articulating that blew my mind. Watching Beauty and the Beast this weekend with a new pair of eyes.
This is so perfect! I'm not a dress person myself, normally, but I've always loved the princesses's "day" looks to their ballgowns. On an only tangentially related topic, would you ever consider making Korean historical clothing (한복 -- both the 치마 and 저고리)? I was recently watching 100 Days My Prince and the female lead's hanbok 한복 looked so comfortable yet lovely, and it immediately made me think of you!
Belle is one of my favorite Disney princesses too! I'm a cross between her and Anna from Frozen since I'm an extroverted bookworm. This dress of Belle's actually is my favorite of hers, so I want to make a cosplay of it at some point too.
Loved the Belle dress, but also want to give a shout out to the pink house dress around the 9:10 mark. It looks like the perfect house dress for summer
This is so awesome! Village Belle is my absolute favourite Disney princess! I need this outfit in my life now. I guess it's finally time to make a corset...
I am a total Bell costume/cosplay snob and this outfit to me is about PERFECT from the mostly historical yet close to the movie combination mashup. Amazing! Totally gonna make a rendition of this especially since Bell is my favorite Disney princess also💜 Also, I'm pretty sure that Anastasia is technically a Disney princess now since they bought the production company that made the movie. My 2 favorites Belle and Anastasia with Ariel thrown in for good measure.💜💜💜
I would LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE to see Anastasia. It was my favorite movie growing up, and when I tell you I sobbed when I found out what actually happened - I mean it. Thank you for sharing your projects and everything with us! Its so wonderful to see such amazing work and such thoughtful videos and helpful too! I'm a very NEW sewer, and I'm starting super small just to see if I'm interested in maybe buying a machine, and just seeing what everyone can accomplish when they put their minds to it is so inspiring.
The circle skirt is the most perfect amount of swooshiness I am so jealous!! And let me just say watching you iron is just insanely satisfying. So excited for all your upcoming projects. You are incredible!!
What a coincidence, I lived in St. Louis when I was little! I don’t think I’ve been to the museum of transportation, but I do remember going to the City Museum and the Magic House!
I love that. After 30 years, my style has a name. Cottagecore. My mother used to call it my “Helga just got off the boat” look. Your talent is inspiring. ☮️-Kirsten
This is so super cute and I love you taking on the lovely Disney peasant princess dresses. Let the peasant dress cottagecore goodness continue! Ariel gets my vote, especially since she is my favorite.
The swoosh factor on that dress is amazing and oh my gosh the corset top part of it looks like it would feel SO GOOD on the back (I broke mine a couple years ago so that's always nice to see).
I love the shoes. Great job! I did notice you opted to not do the hairbow in the back. And I can tell you are absolutely loving that twirling action going with the circle skirt. Great job, it is perfect. Bravo! Yay!!!
What an amazing village dress. This was really the perfect video to listen to while sewing my red belt for a vintage-inspired Snow White Disney bound. Also, I think your dogs blended in perfectly with the other sheep in Belle's village.
I love Murdoch Mysteries. I've seen all the seasons and love how they use actual historical figures in the episodes as well as it being set in the late Victorian/Edwardian era. I study Dr. Ogden's outfits as well as those of the other female characters. Also love the Terence Meyers, James Pendrick and Newsomes of Mimico episodes.
Your dedication to your cosplay interests is chef’s kiss 😘. I am living my cosplay dreams vicariously through you lol! 😂. My favorite Disney princess is Cinderella. Her black and brown just below the knee dress (which I interpreted as stays and a skirt) with the apron, 3/4 length sleeve blouse and hair scarf screams 50’s to me. So cute for sweeping out the fireplace or mopping the floors LOL!
Watching your videos brings me so much joy! You're unapologetically living your best princess life and you put such care and effort into your beautiful creations! Thank you for sharing them! They are so so SO beautiful to watch them come to life :D
I love corsets for every day wear. Oh and I live near StL. all my life. Thanks for the Jackman's fabric plug. I may try them to see if I like their prices and natural fabrics.
Belle's blue dress has been on my list since before I started sewing. I've always related to her so much and I actually prefer the blue dress to her ball gown in many ways. I recently added cinderella, aurora and ariel's casual looks too. They are just my aesthetic. Maybe I'll add snowwhite to the list. Your dress turned out so beautifully!
Oh, I love Acorn TV!!! How wonderful that they are sponsoring you. I love Poirot and Murdoch!!! Thank you!!! You look SO PRETTY in your Belle costume. Bravo 👏🏻
"Sometimes my sheep barks, but it's because he's bilingual"

Two dogs! There’s Elspeth, too! Fortunately her husband stays at home.
How does she do it?? Makes me feel so unproductive
Do you know what kind of doctor she is?

The kokoshnik (sorry don't know how to spell it) is such a cool look and the animation matches photos so well
@@menotyou4289 That is the English spelling I've seen in royal jewellery appreciation circles.
I still love her royal dress (the one with the blue sash and giant sleeves. One day. One day I'll make it.

I love how your dogs were acting as the sheep in that scene - they even looked a bit like sheep, with their big fluffy coats.
Sewstine: You can use simple math to figure out a circle skirt.

The most important part of this video: the pockets. So many good tips and tricks for all my future pockets.

The fluffy dogs being the sheep at the end is so cute 🥺😭😭
I love how chill your dog is. 🤍
Hahah he’s only chill when the mailman isn’t around!
The pocket tape is GENIUS! I am working up my courage to work with linen.
I just love it!! The blue is indeed absolutely perfect and it looks amazing! Bonus; the dogs make adorable sheep!
i love how Sewstine photoshops herself into movies and picture
This is so super cute and I love you taking on the lovely Disney peasant princess dresses. Let the peasant dress cottagecore goodness continue! Ariel gets my vote, especially since she is my favorite.
The swoosh factor on that dress is amazing and oh my gosh the corset top part of it looks like it would feel SO GOOD on the back (I broke mine a couple years ago so that's always nice to see).
Love it! 💙
Would you ever consider doing Princess Odette from the swan princess? I know she's not disney but I still like her🙂.
why is everyone on costube so skilled and so pretty
your editing skills esp re green screen things just KEEP on levelling up, this was such a delight to watch and be inspired by!
I love the shoes. Great job! I did notice you opted to not do the hairbow in the back. And I can tell you are absolutely loving that twirling action going with the circle skirt. Great job, it is perfect. Bravo! Yay!!!
i love that you show even the little details of sewing (like winding a bobbin).
What an amazing village dress. This was really the perfect video to listen to while sewing my red belt for a vintage-inspired Snow White Disney bound. Also, I think your dogs blended in perfectly with the other sheep in Belle's village.
This turned out super cute! It’d be cool to see you do Anastasia.
Oh, I love the village dress. I don't really like the movie or the base story. But, I love Belle's outfit the the blue and white.
OMG i wanna make Aurora's daydress!!! it's so pretty
Lovely dress! Your dogs playing sheep is just *chefs kiss*
YES! Murdoch Mysteries!
Anastasia!!!! I dream of her outfits, the orphanage clothes to the green dress and all the beautiful ballgowns!
I have been obsessing over Murdoch Mysteries! I love watching the show while I sew my medieval dresses. 😊
Please please please do Rapunzel!!! I would love to see what you come up with, historically speaking, as well as modernized cottage-wear...
Wait until you get to the episode on the killing corset 😉
Your “ every day cosplay” Style is absolutely the best!
Also I have been obsessed with Anastasia's yellow dream sequence gown since the movie release ♡ I'd love to see it recreated!
I love Belle too, I used to hide under my beauty and the beast sheets with a flashlight reading all night as a kid. Great video!
Watching your videos brings me so much joy! You're unapologetically living your best princess life and you put such care and effort into your beautiful creations! Thank you for sharing them! They are so so SO beautiful to watch them come to life :D
I'm so happy murdoch mysteries is getting the clout it deserves!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I love Tiana's yellow dress she wears at the beginning.
Yay Belle's Dress! Book nerds for the win, and this dress is lovely!
This video made me so happy I don't know why. Amazing dress!!! And your dogs coming to you like sheeps!
I love Murdoch Mysteries! A Dr Ogden look would be fantastic!!
I would love to see Ariel’s day in the town dress! 🧜🏻♀️ 🐠 👗🐚
The circle skirt was definitely the way to go! I love how swooshy it looks
Such a great outfit! The floofy pups crowding in around you with the sheep was such a fun editing touch! I see you reading Shadow and Bone! ❤️
Oh, I love Acorn TV!!! How wonderful that they are sponsoring you. I love Poirot and Murdoch!!! Thank you!!! You look SO PRETTY in your Belle costume. Bravo 👏🏻
