It is official!! Henceforth it shall be called ice cream fluff. Which never happens to me either when I scoop but somewhere out there it exists. I love this channel! So grateful I found it. I too took Wilton courses at Michaels and I am getting back into cake decorating now and you're so inspiring Karolyn. And so freaking talented! Thank you so much for the time you take to share your gift and give hope to others like me. 🥰

❤️Hi Karolyn! It been a while, lol. I think 7days😆 missing you!🤩 I love this topsy turvey theme cake😍 The learnings of many ideas, ideas, ideas & more ideas are worth my time watching. Thanks Karolyn! ❤️🍦
Hey girl! I did post a short a few days ago. But I know those don't always show up in the feeds. This one took like 9 hours to edit and upload so I was working on it all week! I appreciate your continued support 💜🙏
Thank you! I want to upload more like this! This one took like 9 hours to edit and upload. I can do more like this when I have slower cake weeks coming up so stay tuned 🤗
I am in the UK I love your cake tutorials you explain everything so well. and as I said the other day when I messeged lol.your talent is unreal !!! it's off the scale 😮❤xx😊
Hey girl!!! Love this cake idea.....well, all your cakes are just fabulous!! You are so inspiring and it is really just refreshing just to watch your channel!!! Beautiful cake!
Can I just say that I love American style butter cream I do know how to make it I just if I made it it’ll be all for me and I will eat everything especially if it’s vanilla buttercream. Love it.
For the ice cream scoops, you could use colored buttercream and use an ice cream scooper to scoop it out of the bowl and plop on top. Would give the right texture and look like ice cream. I wish people would order fun cakes like this. Does anyone else get bummed when they aren’t into the themes of the cake? Karolyn, do you still have a place where we can send in progress pictures? I would like for you to see my progress since you have been the one teaching me.😊
That's a great alternative! And I do get bummed when the themes aren't fun. Sometimes I even won't take the order! I'd love to see the pics, you can email me at KakeAcademy@gmail.com 😊
Loving this adorable cake! Haven’t seen the chocolate covered cake board before. Have you seen that crack before? I would be afraid of that. Thank you for sharing the process and your pricing strategy! Look forward to your videos every week!!
Thanks girl! The cake drum is made with 4 cardboard circles. So it’s pretty sturdy. The chocolate didn’t crack, I made sure it was thick enough so it wouldn’t.
What a fun cake! Love watching your process and I'm glad you show what you do when you change your mind about the decorations. Very creative! Thanks for sharing!
🤩 you made the method of making a topsy turvy cake waaaay easier to learn, all this time I’ve researched the method and found that some people used the topsy turvy cake pans (which btw are hard to come by nowadays) but you just cut the cake on an angle and 💥 💥 ( in my tipsy bartender voice) “and there you have it home boy!!” Lol… Love this design its super cute!!!
Thank you for such a well thought out, planned and executed cake! Awesome cake! I really love how you incorporate so many fun elements into your cake. The textured number, the lollipop, the sprinkles/jimmies… I’m in the curly cue fan club as well 😁
Hi Karolyn. I've been away and I'm just now revisiting your channel and binging on your videos. Thank you so much for the information. I've always wanted to make a Topsy turvy cake but thought I'd have to invest in one of those special pans. Now I know I don't! Quick question; do you think the ice cream scoops/balls could be made with rice crispy cereal and marshmallows, then covered in various colored fondant?
You're welcome my dear! Yes, you can do the scoops however you'd like, I know fondant scoops are heavy so others may prefer a different method. You can cover rice cereal balls, you can make big cake balls (mix cake with icing like a cake pop, formed into a ball), you can use chocolate spheres, there are many options!
So I figured out why I can’t see when I’m doing your “trace cut and smooth” method…. Not only is my vision not the best but I’m left handed!!! 🤦🏾♀️ So there is always a shadow cast over what I’m trying to look at from my working hand😂 it took me the longest to figure out why this was so darn hard for me! There are a number of things that are harder from me due to being left handed 😢 like piping rosettes or flowers. And you can just forget about writing with icing😑 But I’m going to just keep practicing!! Thanks for sharing this was fun!
Nice! I have a few questions... 1) is gum tex powder and tylose powder one in the same OR are they diff powders but does the same thing to fondant ? 2) I see that you use crisco and pipe gel to adhere fondant. For newbies how would do know when to use which one? 3) after the final coats of buttercream did you deco with fondant all in 1 day?
Hey Kay! 1. Tylose and Gum Tex are the same thing, just different brands. (Think Toyota and Lexus..they have the same engine.) 2. Here's a video I made explaining the difference! ua-cam.com/video/gfc0heeMRmY/v-deo.html 3. I ice (frost) the cake one day and then decorate the next. Just because I need the icing to be really hard so I can handle them and stack them without messing them up.
No, I use the paper towel immediately after using the bench scraper to smooth the icing. It's American Buttercream, which forms a crust. So the paper towel doesn't stick to it!
I had like 6 hours of footage to edit for this video. And that doesn't include the little things like wrapping the cake board, coloring the fondant, etc. So it was probably more like 8-9 hours!
Karolyn your brill with your fondant, but why don’t don’t you do the ice cream scoop in 🧁 cake I mean who’s gonna eat a ball of fondant just my opinion not criticising you x

I used this teal coloring! amzn.to/3AbAXl7

@@KarolynsKakes TY!
Good morning when you used the paper towel to smooth, had you had it in the refrigerator?
No, I use the paper towel immediately after using the bench scraper to smooth the icing. It's American Buttercream, which forms a crust. So the paper towel doesn't stick to it!
When I di that it sticks to the paper towels
Could you had made the ice cream balls out of cake instead of fondant or is that difficult to do?
Or styrofoam balls to lighten the weight??
Good idea, that's a lot of fondant, not sure people would want to eat it , could be a waste.
You can make cake balls! I actually would have done it that way if I planned in advance.
Styrofoam balls could work. But they would be perfectly round and a little difficult to work with.
I want to do this with buttercream only for my grandsons birthday. He asked for a avengers cake/
And I just want the shape you had here.
Hi Karolyn can you used the Hershey Chocolate to do a chocolate drip?
It dries really hard, so you would want to add heavy cream and make it softer. (1:1 ratio)
@@KarolynsKakes I always have trouble trying to make this thing so I don't bother but I love the look it gives the cake.
How do you keep your fondant soft enough to work with?
I frequently microwave it to soften it up. (I use marshmallow fondant.)
Hi, How long did it take to decorate?.
I had like 6 hours of footage to edit for this video. And that doesn't include the little things like wrapping the cake board, coloring the fondant, etc. So it was probably more like 8-9 hours!
How much were your sweet Stamps? Are they like $50??? That's what shows up when I look them up.
Yeah, they are a little pricey! That's why I made the other video showing how to get the same effect without them.
@@KarolynsKakes boo. Lol I don't think I want to spend that much on letters 🤦♀️🤦♀️
I was afraid the chocolate board was going to crack when you put the toothpick in 😝
The Hershey milk chocolate isn't super hard, so maybe that's why it was good?
Karolyn your brill with your fondant, but why don’t don’t you do the ice cream scoop in 🧁 cake I mean who’s gonna eat a ball of fondant just my opinion not criticising you x
No it’s okay! This was a last minute decision with the design. So I didn’t have any cake leftover to use. But that’s definitely a good alternative!
I don’t think the ‘ice cream fluff’ happens in real life but you see it all the time in pictures, ads etc.
