I'm glad they opted to make them look human-like, and beautiful by human standards. If they'd been monstrous, they couldn't have beguiled the men, and we wouldn't have that amazing lead-up where you _know_ something bad's going to happen but in the meantime you're completely captivated.

Yes i wish they'd cast her as Syrena (the main mermaid) but then we wouldn't have been able to listen to her hypnotic siren voice. I hope they bring her back she was just so magnetising. She made the whole film for me.

syrena is the youngest, most curious, and caring, for people she likes. When she was captured she wasn't really being nice which would make sense but she was also timid

In most cultures the mermaids were not exactly beautiful, the “ sirens “ ( not to be confused with a mermaid- they are not the same ) could not only sing beautifully, but were aesthetically pleasing looking. Luring ships in to the jagged rocks against the shorelines.
I would love to have been in this movie, surrounded by so many gorgeous women like that!!! I don’t care if they were supposed to be murdering us poor distractions...woof!!!

Its an amazing scene even after all these years. Its hauntingly beautiful. Colour grading was on point with the whole style.
