Thank you for the content and getting the word out. Just when i start to think this whole damn island is going off the rails, its good to know we still got people around who know the history and care enough to do something.

I will never forget the early morning call for help from our son when the top broke loose from his commercial fishing boat (show in this video at 7:30). I thank God for getting him and his crew home safely.

If there’s a local PAC forming to grease the slimy hands in DC, let us know. I’m in.

I would love to see Oregon Inlet get the Jetties that it deserves. My Mom and Ancestors are from Dare County, they were some of the Watermen, Businessman, Lighthouse Keepers and one was Manteo Police Cheif. They lived all over, Manteo, Wancheese, Stumpy Point, the Knights, Midgettes and others. I wish I could do more than just give my 2 Cents to help out.

People don't recognize the folks that build this island and keep it going. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment sir!

There is a ton of money there. Visit from Florida and crazy how different the inlet and coast is.

Interesting content would be of the new dredge working. Maybe you could go out with them?

I saw that video, that’s what raised my curiosity about how much it’s working and how effective it is. I saw reports online that there’s only 2-3 feet of water under the bridge currently. The dredge is the best bet for getting things back to “normal” and hopefully open up the inlet for commercial travel again. Thank you for your incredibly well done videos - they are greatly appreciated and enjoyable.

From what I understand, the Inlet is now open for business. A nice deep channel from the main span of the bridge, all the way through the bar. A feat performed by the Miss Kate.

Not after that last blow unfortunately. Winter storm Elliot filled in the channel some.

I wholeheartedly agree that the jetties would have helped, but the reality is we don’t have them. We should keep fighting for them, but with the bureaucracy we have heaped upon us, I wouldn’t hold my breath. The point is, the Miss Kate and her crew, did a job that has not been done in decades.
And unless the bureaucrats get in the way, she will continue to do so until we have the good fortune for the jetties to be constructed. In the mean time, I think it’s important to point out Wanchese is now, once again, open for business. After all, when it was open in the past, the jetties didn’t exsist. And now we don’t have to depend on the federal government to keep it open, we only have to worry about them shutting it down. Go-Wanchese-Go!!
keep up the good work, your videos are very well done, and informative!

Started with trawl boats not being to get in and out of the inlet. Now it’s sport fishing boats not being able to get in and out of the inlet. What do you think is going to happen to all the boat builders here if they can’t get their boats out of the inlet probably gonna be the same thing that’s happened to the fish houses. And anybody that’s from OBX knows how many people that is employed by each and every boat builder in Wanchese it’s not just the fishing aspect, which brought a lot of money to it. It’s the whole economy, and if people can’t come here to go fishing what are they gonna come here for?

Commercial scalloper here. Been in/out of OI idk how many times. It's not the inlet that bothers me coming in. It's the last bouy you make that left hand turn at to get into the harbor. On a trawler, if you don't keep her right there on the bouy on the port side, you're stuck.
Not to mention, Wanchese Fish Company is one of the worst/shittiest companies you can ever work for. Wanting to hold your check for a week 😄😄 then, on top of that, they want to give you the lowest % possible. They're garbage. Not to mention most of their trawlers are all drug havens & in rough shape.

Could have built the jetties a million times over with the money we have sent to other countries. Shameful.

I’ve had farmer and coal miner relatives that had to uproot their way of life (generations), and move to make a living. My family had to do it. Having lived on the Outer Banks, I find it ironic that many of the locals there are hardcore conservatives (I’m not a liberal btw) that want less government in their lives and want people to take care of themselves, have no problem with other peoples tax money being thrown into the inlet that will never be sustainable. I would rather see the money used to relocate these fishermen to a place that can sustain them instead of dumping it in the water.

Watching this really aggravates me too no end.
Wtf is going on and why are the jetties not complete?
If you involve government they will screw anything up. I have a right to say that cause i work for the DOD.
Now it seems simple on its face but somehow its dragged on for years.
We give millions to Ukraine but we cant fix this issue?
I moved here and fish offshore but am now thinking of keeping my boat on the east coast of florida. Im not gonna try to tackle those inlets as if professional captains are Leary of them how am i supposed to transit them?
Before i even get my hull wet im looking elsewhere.
This is a major shit show and i bet there is some senator in dc with a pretty power point presentation that cost 100 million to produce...wink wink

70+ years of neglect. It's enough to make 11 videos and counting. Thanks for the comment!
