Hallelujah! Realizing I didn't have to draw "Christian symbolism or subjects" was so freeing. Holy Spirit can touch people no matter what I draw. Such a relief! I believe, for instance, that God created me to have a huge heart for the animal kingdom and Holy Spirit loves creating with me as I draw animals. I have a passion for it and He loves that.
Thank you Matt. This is exactly why after hearing you talk about increasing your skills in the mentoring program, I invested in other specific art courses and workshops to level up my artwork ❤ Sharing my joy one painting at a time 😊 Even intuitive art needs some thought & decisions in design at some point. Filled & skilled!!!
Man, I got so much out of this topic. Thank you, Matt. I stopped drawing for about 20yrs or more just because the grind of life. I'm 61 now and I just started a UA-cam channel. I never used a brush or the medium (Gouache), It's been challenging but I'm seeing the progress. God has been getting me ready and preparing to start bringing scripture to life. "Coming soon"
Q: Why is it bad? A: Because artists don't have the skills and misconceive that prophetic art is spontaneous. How to make it better- 1: Learn the Fundamentals (anatomy, perspective, form and structure, lighting and shadow, color, and composition) 7:20 2: Plant the seeds of inspiration 9:02 3: Find a mentor 11:41 4: Create, and let Adonai speak 14:01 5: Make sure that you are walking in the place of being "filled" and "skilled" 16:10 You're welcome. Saved you 20 minutes of filler talk while still commenting and supporting the algorithm. Happy creating.
Creating with the Holy Spirit, means celebrating our flaws. Not being ashamed of them. That's actually how we embrace our unique voice. So much of the Christian symbols we see in traditional art, doesn't always feel so relatable. You've gotten me excited about wanting to be a new Christian artist, exploring new ideas.
I'm a 26 year old mom. I just started having enough time to practice my craft so I can finally start this amazing art class I found.🎉 I'm scraping up any extra time I have to do this because it's my dream❤️🔥. One day it's gonna look professional, I can taste it.🌹🦁🎉
I've been struggling with this lately, trying to 'force' the process and feeling like I needed to attach a verse from scripture to convey the message. Wow! Timing and synchronicity- I so needed this TODAY! Thank you Matt!
Yes, yes, yes..devotion to the craft and craftmanship. This speaks so much to me, as I had in the beginning of December take a break with the mentoring from Matt Tommey mentoring program for a short period so that I can hone in and level up on fundamentals and skill sets. This is such an validation of the direction I chose to dedicate and commit focus to studio purposeful practice and work. Thank you Matt Tommey!
I couldn’t agree more and I feel this way about walking in peoples kitchen where there is a huge sign that says KITCHEN. Beautiful sign but if your sink and stove don’t work I don’t care what the sign says 😂😂 If this is truly your niche then rock it out but I want us to free ourselves from thinking it looks one way.
Do our best..present our work ..give the best..if we learn our craft with a standard then we can flow with excellence in the prophet(😊)are we just replicating the acceptable motifs already out there..people will get the message no need to be overtly prescriptive..
As a lifelong artist and a christian I am really thankful for Matt's commentary because when "prophetic art" became a thing in worship services it was as cliched and self expressioned as Matt has said and I was dumbstruck that it was being celebrated as anointed when to me they all looked sloppy and amateurish.
Sorry, but I love drawing lions and feel very connected to that subject matter. And Christian art isn’t bad. Theres tons of really good Christian art, this title is a blanket statement
