The least they could have done was let you see him break the water & take his first breath. Sick artists like to leave you hanging instead of the crescendo of resolution. Such sadistic artists are not celebrators of life but celebrators of bondage. I'm not interested in that. I've always been into extreme sports but you have to either show the victory in it's fullness or the defeat in it's fullness or you're not an artist that celebrates life & reality but a manipulator & most likely a bully. Not saying the diver had a say in how this was filmed. Based on his bio I doubt that was his doing. It's probably the doing of the photographer. Hopefully the diver never uses that production service again. PS. After having the dialog you may have noticed I have changed my attitude. He explained what really happened & I felt kind of small when I realized he knew what I was talking about and actually agreed with the on factual point I made. I decided not to edit my comments out but to leave them as examples of how not to communicate with an artist about their work.
@@DaanVerhoeven Either you understood what I meant or you didn't. It's not a case of looking closer because what I'm talking about has nothing to do with looking closer. It's about crescendo in art that has an emotional progression. You decided to destroy rather than celebrate. Therefore I decided to criticize rather than praise. My criticism is as valid a response to your art as any other. If you make choices to go one way it means you don't get to have it the other. The only thing that should matter to you is whether your art pleases you. Obviously it does so let it do that for you. You're going to get criticism regardless of what you create. But my post was an observation that was more directed to the person who said they were having nightmares after watching. I recognized why. You didn't resolve your art for the viewer. You gave her no relief. I recognized that because I too was dissatisfied having been robbed of that breath. I too am a diver. I learned free diving & scuba as a teen ager on Maui. I've been at the bottom of some deep dives I watched your diver controlling his gasp reflex I related to everything in my body screaming for air while I maintained control - and you never gave me that breath. For me the ascent from a free dive is all about that breath. In fact the entire dive is coordinated & governed by that first breath. Playing that down to celebrate the rest of the dive may is art no doubt but it's weird art because it does not celebrate the crescendo, the orgasm, that moment of transformation that cannot be imitated but only authenticated through the experience itself. Denying that moment to say it's about all the other moments preceding it - I find pretentious - especially since you took us almost to that breath. If actually do achieve that in a series of videos -- it's not working because there's no reference to that in your presentation & I have no motivation to watch others because of what you did to me in this one - with no directions how to watch it properly - if that's in fact the case.
i partially agree with you - in all of those other films i made with Stig in that playlist, i emphasise that moment of first breath after a dive, that relief and exaltation in exhalation and inspiration. The simple reason i didn't in this movie is that the shot where Stig breathes is quite messy: there are a lot of people on the surface of that pool. Plus it's a reverse shot, and i thought it would take too many people out of the moment. It was a difficult choice to cut there, and your argument that it's the wrong choice has some validity. But i didn't want to end with a mess, and i started underwater so i ended underwater. The rest of my films with Stig are not that way - up to you if you want to watch them or not.

Eman M Sure about the camera man, but even the diver's short sequences are breath taking. They give the sensation that he's so far from the surface that in any case of emergency he just won't be able to reach air in time. I guess that was exactly the purpose of the video...
The description…the words within this video…the art that was created when merging the two is inspiring in such a poignant manner. Thankfully, boxes are meant to opened. And I hope this video helps others to open the boxes they have found themselves in. Open your box and leap toward the freedom your body, your mind, your very essence is crying out for. You might be surprised just how far your leap will take you.

This is without a doubt one of the most incredible and beautiful things I have ever seen! It just amazes me how something that looks so simplistic can have such a deeper meaning! Thank you so much for sharing this!
This whole segment spoke to me profoundly. I've been crying thinking of how i'm spiraling with my life, where I feel trapped by all things listed and more. But taking that step to leave the box is so unimaginably hard that I struggle....this helped me. Thank you
I'm a certified Scuba Diver, I was certified back in 1986 by Scuba Schools International through Scuba Hut in Glen Burnie MD, the deepest dive I've went was 100 ft. at the bottom of a rock quarry where I took my certification, and I can tell you that it's not easy to hold your breath for long periods of time. I used to be able to hold my breath for 3 minutes, and it's crazy to think that a person is able to hold their breath for 25 minutes, which is just insane! I don't know how long this guy can hold his breath for, but I know he held it for a few minutes!
Yay, Maryland! Even basic dive training doesn’t cover 100 ft so that is its own cool point for training/skill. My first time underwater WITH a breathing apparatus I had to stop and calm down, so much respect for these free divers. 💌
I hear your point.. But I don't think it's point of the video. It's not really about how long you can hold your breath, I thinks it's about life trapping people in boxes and using underwater vid and holding his breath to express this.. i.e be brave enough to take a direction away from the normal and you'll breath easier again etc etc.. that's my interpretation 🤷
Unless there were some very clean scene transitions where he could’ve gotten air given to him by one of the producers or even the cameraman could’ve been holding a spare tank for him to take a breath when he needed it And with some good editing it could be made to look like nothing has transitioned at all
This video made me cry. It is super inspirational! Thank you so much for creating and sharing this video with us. I just want to say something else: Never let anyone take away your talents because it's your talent that will grant you freedom.
Yep the I can barely move my heavy everything running dream. The more u try the less u move. Like ur in wet concrete. Crazy how humans have the same weird shit go on. Perhaps the dream relm is real...

Me and my boyfriend are in the transition of starting our lives together with next to nothing but each other. We have been through more than one would think they could bare. But nothing quite as scary as this. We've cried, we've screamed and sitting there hollow for the night I found your video. I turned it towards my boyfriend and we watched it together without saying a word and when your face finally hit the air I breathed for what felt like the first time in a real long time. *Thank you*
I can understand how he can learn to hold his breath for so long. But how the hell does he pressure stabilize so fast? That was a pretty crazy transition of dephts that he went through.

I’m sure you got something to that effect. Complexity and meaning is all derived from the viewer .

The video most definitely was shot in segments so he could take in oxygen and the camera man probably had an oxygen tank with him
Lol

Sure about the camera man, but even the diver's short sequences are breath taking. They give the sensation that he's so far from the surface that in any case of emergency he just won't be able to reach air in time. I guess that was exactly the purpose of the video...

@@aSenseSeeker not to mention the pressure makes you have to breath manually and with effort
Wat een prachtige manier om deze boodschap en oplossing weer te geven. Dank je Daan, super. naar mijn idee heel herkenbaar.
How could he ascend fron that depth without exhaling? Shouldnt he have blacked out??
God bless your heart/ soul... And those lungs too!!! 🙏
Unless there were some very clean scene transitions where he could’ve gotten air given to him by one of the producers or even the cameraman could’ve been holding a spare tank for him to take a breath when he needed it And with some good editing it could be made to look like nothing has transitioned at all
The way he started walking is how we run in our dreams.
That's so true
Yes, you're so right
😩😂😂😂
Yes, that's right, I often experience it as if there is no gravity
Good way to describe it, I have bears chasing me and it feels like that.
This guys lungs have black hole technology to store that much oxygen
that depends on if black holes store information or decodes it making it disappear proving to be an anomaly with our understanding of physics.

I can understand how he can learn to hold his breath for so long.
But how the hell does he pressure stabilize so fast? That was a pretty crazy transition of dephts that he went through.
There is always some kind of logical explanation to that. Keep that in mind whenever you look into comments for an answer ; )
@@alanz777 I’m pretty sure that was already in mind when that question was asked. That’s like me saying- make sure you actually want to know the answer to the question you’re asking.
