- A full departure from Houston Intercontinental Airport, onboard a United Airlines Boeing 777-200ER en route to Denver. The sun was just setting, providing an endless sunset as we climbed through the clouds.
Note - excuse the vibrations during the initial part of the takeoff roll!

Aren’t they just the best!! Ironically, I was actually scheduled on a GE90 equipped 777 tomorrow from EWR-LHR (N79011) but I just ended up switching my flight to a different one on a 787-9. Still good, but not quite got the growl of the 90’s!

Thank you! Yeah the sun was just perfect how it had dipped below the horizon while we were on the ground, but then came right back into view as we climbed out and headed north west

The engines do have a very distinctive growl to them!

I thought UA's -200s only has PW engines. This is new to me.
All of the -200’s owned by UA prior to the merger were PW engines - both the 777-200A models and the 777-200ER models - however all of the -200’s from CO were powered by GE. Therefore, UA’s current fleet consists of 22 GE powered aircraft and 52 PW powered aircraft. This video was filmed on a GE aircraft (good spot by the way!) during the grounding of the PW fleet
Just as the aircraft is about to lift off, UA-cam has to interrupt with an advert. Buzzkill. That’s just about enough
Oh that’s a shame, too bad we don’t have any control over that. Supposedly when you have enough subscribers you do, but until then, UA-cam does what it wants 😟
Does anyone know why the 777 doesn’t use winglets? Are there diminishing returns with such a large wingspan?
This is an older -200 model which really predates most of the winglet retrofits that happened during the 2010’s. Boeing did add the raked wingtip to the -200LR and -300ER models though which increased performance somewhat. The cost/benefit analysis of adding winglets to the older fleet probably just doesn’t add up though. Although someone else might know the engineering specifics in more detail?

Where did the Lufthansa A330 come from ???
Would have been heading to Frankfurt - this video was taken in early 2022 which was still COVID times, so the A330 was still operating the route. It’s currently back to a 747-8

I did too for a minute. Fortunately though, we did lift off… traveling at 777 speeds along the interstate is probably frowned upon..

You know, it's really not as bad as some other airports. IAH is really pretty good overall not huge waits for Runway. Sorry, 2 just defending our main airport which is pretty user friendly! Have a good one!
