I did the same this past April 2023 leaving from IAH I was in economy 3 across on the end seat and hated it. I am 5ft 1 and didn’t have enough room for my backpack and legs. I swear the aisle seat was much narrower, than the middle and window. I am going again next fall my fly British Airways and compare.
Thanks for the video. Regarding pillows, United now does have pillows in all economy seats. They’re an interesting design, as they can also serve as neck pillows. There are air vents in other United, wide-body aircraft. The 21 or so B772s that came with Continental don’t have them. A lot of frequent flyers have complained on this topic. The food on United is terrible and if you’re close to the last row, there’s a chance your choice won’t be available. Ordering a special meal is free; you’re served first, so the food warm.
So, you got to the food: it’s disgusting; it’s disgusting on all international flights. People have complained; United isn’t listening. I think the only way to communicate with United nowadays is to impact profit. If they serve garbage, I suggest mashing it into the carpet. If they have to tow aircraft off to clean carpets, they’ll get the message.
@@Sjoefke The carrier has universal outlets. I have a (naughty) colleague that has solved this issue with lost and found. If she needs a British or European plug, she describes her charger at a Hilton, Marriott or Hyatt and they find one. She managed a Marriott in Boston. Apparently about a dozen chargers were left in the hotel each week and only two or three were claimed. So there’s an inventory of devices that are discarded after three or six months. She does the same thing at airline clubs too.
Thank you! Ah the food was awful, curious to see what the other option would have tasted like though, and maybe it would have been better had it been warm and we were seated further forward?
Just returned from Spain on UA B787-10. Food was minimal and terrible. The plane felt very cramped. I think I prefer the older 777s. Ife was excellent. No free spirits.
It shows you what flying has come to - that’s the same terrible slim line seat United uses on short haul flights . The only plus is how can you reduce the width any further??. The fact is some of their regional aircraft have better seats than this. Delta hasn’t gone to these seats and I try to fly them .
Took this flight in Feb, good thing my flight wasnt full. the food was good, rather enjoyed it the service and the crew was lovely, sorry that your experience wasn't the best!!
Yes we checked bags, however we checked them it at Lima the day before and they connected through onto this flight. United kept hold of them so we didn’t need to collect and recheck. The recline was average, the seat was okay, nothing especially outstanding but as you’d expect for economy. For us the added comfort came from having the duo seats rather than a seat mate on a row of 3
@@JTsJourneys Delta retrofitted(and I mean they had a FULL interior Glow-up Repainted sidewalls even!) their old 777-200s and they felt brand new. What they did to make the aircraft feel brand new was that they installed blue LEDs. They retrofitted their oldest aircraft, the 757-200s (which still contains the old blue liquid loo's) with the boing sky interior. A non-geek would think they are brand new. This plane would have felt brand new is it just had some blue mood lights!
Personally I'd have done the same as you- booked the two seats as they are great for a couple. I guess it's a risk you take whether or not meals are served from the front or the rear of the cabin first. That said, the dinner was very uninspiring and bland and the breakfast offering was small and poor. If I'm travelling in United economy I'd probably book a special meal based on your experience and take some snacks onboard with me. Look forward to your next video.
Thank you! I'm considering booking a special meal on my next long haul but it's going to be a bit of a gamble as the airlines don't specify what meal it is, either low calorie / low salt etc...might try the low salt and see what it's like :)
Ok crew things is our bags we need to have dedicated bin spaces so passengers will not accidentally take our bags. Most of our bags are our lifeline and we need to have them for quick move.
I too would always try and take the 2 seats at the rear and take that seating arrangement over the ‘better’ food. Indeed, price wise it was good value, but the food looked awful. I am not surprised you didn’t finish the meal. Airline food in economy has dropped in standard so much over the last few years. I have never flown on United before and don’t think I will be flying with them anytime in the future. Great video though, thank you 👍
Thanks! I think United did recently announce a meal upgrade for economy so hopefully it gets better in the future. If the food was alright I'd rate the whole journey better
It's a tough one isn't it, I think a lot depends how many people you're travelling with. For us as a couple and always wanting the window we admittedly can be a pain bothering the person on the aisle...
I'd be embarrassed working for United.. They want to force people to pay extra for REGULAR economy seats. An aisle is now premium? And any economy window seat is premium? They are the extremely cramped economy seats that give everyone leg cramps. You can't even reach into a bag under your seat. It's too cramped to get anything out. And they will put anyone 8n an exit row that PAYS money for it. They don't care about safety. The 99 year old grandma is supposed to help people off the plane. And a Professional Firefighter can't have a seat there to rescue people? So infuriating. And united will not even allow comments on their youtube videos, because they're afraid of all the complaints and they don't want to hear people have to say.
If you can't live 8-12 hours without "good food," you have bigger problems to deal with. I've flown Singapore, Emirates, all the major European and Oceanian carriers, Ethiopian, and all the major American carriers. The food has never been more or less "meh," regardless of airline. And the *ONLY* time I've *EVER* found there to be a difference in comfort was on a Northwest A330 about 15 years ago -- it was noticeably comfortable. Otherwise, economy is economy, doesn't matter which airline you fly. Same quality of food, same quality of seating, same quality of everything. A bus in the sky with some frozen dinners.
I think it’s more the food should be hot if it’s designed to be hot. And at least have some taste vs the bland cold mess we had on this flight. If a service is promised give me the service. That’s the expectation. That said, a flight on northwest sounds cool, what did they do differently to make it good?
For sometime already UA became lowest class discount airline. Flew United Airlines last year 2023 it was good and good service. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
App and Crew were good, food was not
Was security, customs at IAH? I guess its regular TSA to catch the international flights
Not sure I understand the question here.. we had to go through security as usual though
I’m flying to cancun next month on ac and coming back on united via Houston so I really like this and make sure I’m not near the back 😂😂😂

I've not tried their 787s yet... in general though I do find them cramped (they were designed for a 2-4-2 but almost all airlines fly them 3-3-3)

Did your plane have Bluetooth headphone option? A lot of United domestic flights do this now, but wondering if this international one had it. Thanks
Hello! No this wasn’t an option :( as far as I know it’s only on their 737max aircraft and refurbished a32x planes
Louisville airport?
I think it was yes
Not sure how I would feel about having a quarter century aircraft flying me
