It's Remote, it's Wild, but absolutely BEAUTIFUL // EP.55

- We are Overlanding in one of the most remote areas on this planet, Kaokoland in Namibia. It is a paradise for all that want to get remote and experience an untouched wilderness. IT IS STUNNING.
We travel all the way from our last camp next to the Hoarusib River, south towards the Skeleton Coast. We have to cover more than 700km in the desert. Kaokoland is one of the best destinations for 4x4 touring. Not only there are challenging tracks but the remoteness of the area means that one needs to be prepared, self-sufficient, and know how to get out of tricky situations alone. But it is one of the most rewarding, with landscape changes every hour, and wild animals roaming in dry riverbeds. We cross Orupembe, see the Stonemen of Kaokoland, drive through dry riverbeds, also called rivers of sand, get to see the vast Sekeleton Coast, and drive kilometers on barren landscapes. We reach Purros, camp next to giraffes, battle the many corrugations and cross the Skeleton Coast National park until we reach the Atlantic Ocean. The best Overlanding adventure one can expect, and our favorite place in Namibia to date.
This is the land of the Himba, they have inhabited this region for centuries and have adapted to the harsh environment. They follow semi-nomadic pastoralism, but tourism is threatening their traditional way of life. Many tourists treat them as objects of interest and curiosity, rather than respecting them as human beings. This is creating several problems, on the one side Himba are losing authenticity as they might be performing or exaggerating practices only for tourists. Moreover they are starting to depend on tourism as well, weakening their connection to their land and heritage as the next generations get closer to Western practices. Due to this, we never wanted to be part of it and this is the reason why you will not see them in our videos.

Old Defender's Journey!! I'm always enjoying good travel videos Have a nice trip
Our bluelandy is getting places!! Happy that you are enjoying our videos! See you around 😎
You did not disappoint...another great episode. Those landscapes are so hard to capture on film. They are lonely, harsh and very isolated but breathtaking at the same time.
They are! It think if we had stayed longer we might have been able to capture it with peace and not rush that much. But I already promised Kai to get to the coast as soon as possible. He had waited for surf for months! And yes, this place has it all, harsh and empty but awe inspiring 🤩
@@Thebluelandy Aah…that pesky thing called time! I hope you guys know about the longest wave at Skeleton Bay. ☝️
Yeah we do, we’ll get there 😅
Simply breathtaking
It is one of our favorite places to this date!
Love the stoneman.
They are really special, aren't they! We saw this and another two.one hanging from a rock, and another one going up the hill, where we parked the bluelandy at the 360°viewpoint.
Those beautiful landscapes remind me of outback Australia - very similar.
Doesn't a Defender look right at home in such remote places, such an iconic vehicle.
Yes!! The region gave us the feeling we had seen something similar before, but never quite, specially when a giraffe pokes his head behind a tree. 😂😂The Landy feels at Home here. It's a beast that loves such challenges. Well except corrugations, those are man made and were killing our car 💀
Thanks, i will look into it. Stay safe, and have i nice trip .
Anytime, if you have more questions you can reach out on Instagram ;)
Bravo.
Hello again. I sure enjoy traveling with you. Very nice narrating Irati.😊
Hi! So happy to have you around in our trips! Thanks again 🤗
Hi, we've just found your channel. On my drive ... a 10 year old blue Landy 110 ... We love it ... Your adventures and videos are epic ... Take care and have the time of your lives 😁
So glad UA-cam connected us! You have the right color Landy 💙 take care of it, all the work will be paid twofold! We love it as well, see you around!
Stunning
Thank you 😊
Great episode
Thank you so much! See you in the next 😉🤩
The adventure of a lifetime.....and South America to come (presumably you'll time it for the Southern hemisphere summer)
Hey Bert, the timing of South America strongly depends on the shipping and when we find container buddy's
Magnifique !!
Merci Laurent !!!
Love watching your journey so far in Africa, it’s been amazing . Great video again you two thanks for sharing your wonderful journey and adventures with us all your over-landing friends cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.:) :) 🌍🍻👍🏼😁
Africa is a rollercoaster, it offers some of the most spectacular sceneries, wildlife and sense of freedom. But it also does present with many contradictions and inequality. Africa has taught us so much, in a way we never expected. Thank you Steve for being there🤗 see you soon!
@@Thebluelandy ….😁
"The land God made in anger". You look very pleased with yourselves to me !! Enjoy - I know you will.
Wow, what an incredible place Namibia is.
You really need to plan very carefully your daily travels in the more remote areas as you guys have done - but boy, what a reward to see all that harsh and beautiful landscape!
Yes, this part of Namibia can be dangerous in case your car is not in shape for example, or don't have recovery gear or you didn't bring enough supplies. But with these things sorted, it is a hell of a drive!! ❤️
Great adventure, guys!
Thank you so much!! Where are you guys at the moment?
bravi bellissimo🤩
È spettacolare!😱
Really great episode thanks. Such a contrast in terrain and views. That was a bit of a drop off at the top of that hill where you parked the Landy to get the 360deg shot!!😵💫
Thank you so much again! It is one of the best places to check the size of the Skeleton Coast. There was a considerable drop yeah, and also, extremely windy! That's why we didn't stay 😵
Great episode again! Thank you for taking us to this stunning place! Little comment on the tracks you found at the coast: These are hyena tracks. The toes of hyenas have the shape of a garlic clove. There are quite a lot of coast hyenas in Namibia. 😊
Thank you!! We wish we knew at the time. All the weeks in the area thinking it was lions everywhere🙈🙈🙈🙈
U r absolutely right about the himba and other such tribes and I am glad you did not exploit them - thank you. Where did you get the thermostat stuck to your mirror?
I am surprised, that people don't talk about it more often! We got it on the internet in Germany. But it broke at the coast in Namibia due to exposure to sea salt. We still need to try to flush it with fresh water and se if we can revive it.
@@Thebluelandy depends, there are 2 types, indoor and outdoor. The outdoor one is almost sealed. I just bought one and will see how well it does.
Are you planning to come up the west coast of Africa? If so, there are complications brewing up stream.
nices video :)
Vielen Dank Thomas!! 🤗🤗🤗
Great episode. What I don’t understand though why you didn’t camp at one of the community campsites in Purros and support the locals?
Thank you so much! We always prefer to camp in the bush. We have been doing it since we started and we love the feeling of freedom and connection to nature. we are self-sufficient, so we rarely stay in campsites or hostels. We know is important to support the local community and we choose to do so once in a while.
Not lions, judging by your hand/fingers it is possibly brown hyena. But lions have started to learn the art of seal hunting again. Enjoy your trip.
Agree.
Yes! Most probably hyena. There was at least one or two that did cover the whole way from Cape Cross to the entrance of Skeleton Coast NP, through beach, checking for dead seals!
Such spectacular scenery. Are you glad to have a diesel engine? The Bluelandy seems bullet proof (-;
Thank you 😊
Oh yeah, I would not do it with a petrol engine the fuel consumption is way better with a diesel and you got more torque at low rpm.
We are really lucky with the car, but we're also checking on all new noises and do frequent proper maintenance.
It does seem like the best option for the job. The TDI engine reminds me of my old 2005 Cummins diesel engine…300,000 miles and not one problem!
Hello, who did you get your car from middeleast to Mombasa, i am planning to go there in october?
Hey, we did two videos about our shipping nightmare, you can check them out.
We shipped from Aqaba to Mombasa in a Container. But Jeddah might be better if you want to ship from Mombasa talk to guys from East Africans warehouse, they helped us.
How much fuel can you carry.?
We’re somewhere at 112-115L on road that brings us 1100km
What a bleak remote place .Skeleton coast know by sailors as the graveyard !
It is really! We loved it so much to get around such a landscape. The Skeleton Coast is a dead trap! Scary to think that ships got stranded deep in the desert and there was nothing that could be done 😱
The voice over is annoying. Maybe some subtitles would be better...
Hi! Thanks for your comment. What's annoying? My voice, the things that I say or how often I say them. Can you be more specific? Some can be adapted others I was born with. 😂😂😂😂 And I understand everybody has their preferences, so you can always mute the video and put subtitles in UA-cam. There is always a way. Waiting for your feedback 😜
Nothing wrong with your voice! I love your accent, welcome to Namibia. Safe travels.
