why in the heck do people pay before looking at the place
No way in hell would I look for an apartment or home on Facebook in the first place.
You never pay without a lease and a house tour
Some scammers will get the keys from real owners or steal them, then also make you a fake agreement - it’s a dangerous game going through an unregulated house site in general.
Check the county property website and verify ownership.
Also another good tip if the person claims to be the owner, search the county appraisal website if their paying property taxes their name going to come up as owner.
I knew there's gotta be a way to verify.
Good point.
Omg never pay if u havent seen the place and met the landlord. That is so dumb.
😂 no one is renting a 2 bed for $750
Depends on your area. There are quite a few in my area that going for 750, 650, 765.
@@brandiehammondwhat state are you in?
@@brandiehammondyou obviously done your research!
Enterprise AL we rent a 2 bed 1.5 bath small townhome and it's almost 800 a month.
2br go for $1500 on up here in South Texas
Never use cash apps. Never!
Why??
@@y.r.9401 because you can get hacked, easily, using apps of any kind. Especially connected to your checking account. Just don't do it.
I sell something in facebook and the guy he want to paid me using cash app I told him NO cash only and he didn’t show 😂
@@y.r.9401for obvious reasons 🙄
@@Antiinjustice2024 Check or certified check. Traceable.
Str8 out of Nigeria
4 month income off one person. No wonder they scam
One of the red flag is the classic foreign accent hard to understand.
That’s why Facebook Marketplace is so dangerous, you can’t hear their voice. They can also recruit someone who does not have a foreign accent to assist with phone calls.
Using fakebook to rent a property? Seriously?
Lots of people find rentals on Facebook marketplace. The trouble is paying for a property with so many obvious red flags. I feel bad for her, but she messed up big time.
“She’s not returning calls”
No shit
Happens in many places . Rent with local owners in person only .
As Mrs. Gump said STUPID is as STUPID does
It's completely 100% her own fault. How about not rent shit from Facebook marketplace or Craigslist, as their is 0 regulation. It's her own fault for choosing to save money by not going through a reputable service
Paying with PayPal is such a red flag! It’s unfortunate that people are so gullible.
Who fucking PayPals for a rental property without seeing the house looking up management or nun like come on now
Desperation. The economy for many makes them vulnerable.
right I almost got scammed, called a place (I figured it might be a scam) the guy said he is the owner told me to drive there,,,I put the address in google sure enough it came up with a prop manager for 2k more,,,I called them and told them some guy is using the photos for a scam,,,,,than I text the scammer and called him a scammer and that I called the real people
I ran into a lot of scammers like that on Facebook.
I saw red flags and ignore them.
first red flag facebook
Go to management companies to rent
Not on any social media
You can’t hear me?
Yeah… no…. Click!
-“Can you hear me?”
-“yeah,… no
🙄🤦🏾♀️
The poor lady needs a guardian or conservator.
India needs to not have internet for ever 🤣 that’s the solution
why is there no effort from facebook or the police to catch scammer like this?
facebook to busy interfering in the election and censoring people that they dont agree with. they dont care about people being ruined by scammers
They are too busy taking government demands to censor you.
This is your own fault Why would you buy or try to buy or rent a home on Facebook There's a reason why there's realty websites be smart Don't be dumb like this lady It's her own fault she's whining about losing money well maybe she should think about and not using Facebook to do something so important like renting a home Facebook is not meant for you to go buy a rent a home and all the people on there selling stuff and everything or renting homes and stuff They're all scammers This is a known fact I don't feel bad for her at all one bit She got herself in this situation
Facebook Marketplace is a very common place to find a home these days. But there are ways to be smart about it and this woman didn’t do any of them, unfortunately.
So many people do think when they see rents at rediculous low prices that they got a deal. They know something isn’t right but they are hoping to be lucky one. I only feel sorry for the people that are low mentality. I wouldn’t rent to someone I haven’t met. Why would you rent from someone you can’t see the house and inspect.
Police won’t do shit on such case. It would have been different in other countries but here in USA all our police can say is be careful from next time. What a joke😂😂😂 and we call America is the leading country in technology advancement but in real they don’t have technology they they even catch a small scammer. Good bless you all
Aw poor lady
Never give anyone money without getting keys or doing a background check on the property…
Just go through a realtor
Why haven’t these people been arrested
It’s fraud
Because most of them are in Nigeria or India.
I almost fell for this when I was much younger. Home owner was gone in Africa working for UNICEF...the home was really for rent, the scam was a duplicate rental ad. If we paid the deposit, the "friend" we'd been communicating with, would give us the key. We caught on thanks to some shoddy English in the correspondence but at age 19, I didn't know any better.
Years ago I was looking for a rental on a website. I contacted who I thought was the owner. After emailing back and forth, what she was saying sounded suspicious,so I did reasearch. I found she wasn't the owner. I emailed the true owner and he told me his home wasn't for rent. Always research!
I dont trust fb because of this lmao😅😂
Its called "doing one's due-diligence".
Why would anyone rent anything on social media? Better question, why give unsecured money to someone you never met? Sympathy, I have none.
Why not get a rental through a realtor? FB marketplace is nothing but a scam.
Not to me. I purchased a game system and mechanic services on fb marketplace. No scams.
Nigerian voice that was. 😢 They took her money.
@MsAchampion You can clearly hear they was from India, that's not even a Nigerian accent.
Thats crazy because they have the same house on fb market place in philly i just lolked at it 😂😂 they are horrible
friends and family for neither a friend nor family. smh
Why do people rent off of FB or Air B&B’s? Is it because they don’t have credit? Rent from legitimate businesses. 🤷♀️
People can be so stupid, I swear.
The fact it was a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom townhome for $750 screams scam.
I don't see how that's a townhouse
Thats sad
Who pays someone just like that 😂
If the owner has another property they should offer joan and her boyfriend a months stay in another apartment just to compensate for the $1500.00 loss.
$1500 for 30 days.. Be kind to others
I thought it was gonna be a fake lease story. That would be more understandable.
Its ok marketplace. Just be careful. If they dont reply in 1 week. Report them so their account is blocked. Also check the background of the accoubt. If few pictures with zero friends. Its fake account
And if it's brand new account. Big red flag.
Never pay online. Pay only in person
She got scammed by a Nigerian 🤣😂🤣 ain’t no wayyyyy
Did Pay Pal help her?
Pay Pal helped me with retail scam.
@@roadhousepress how did it helped you?
Pay pal will typically give you your money back while it investigates the matter.@@FelixKiprono-vb7xf
Most everything on marketplace is a scam
Katy got their rent for the month😂
Her a big dummy.
Another problem are FB group administrators do not properly screen requests to join or monitor posts.
Can't we get these scammers
No because they're all in India 😂
Nigeria
Google image it?
I've met some great people on Facebook.
It's just sad that they can't.
90% of everything on Facebook marketplace is a scam lol
Call police
😂🤣
Why do you give money if you did not take a tour of the place? and you need to sign a contract lady! she looks mexican maybe she does not have papers in order
Bless your heart….
This is why you pay cash up front and make sure they show you the home in person first
Cash cannot be traced if it turns out you bought or rented from a phony.
@Bill-im6nt that's why you have him show you the interior of that house because he won't have a key to get in and watch and observe people if you know what your doing you can pin point people's true motives
@@mcgregathen420 You need both, people have been known to make a copy of a key (house or car) while pretending to be looking at it for himself.
@Bill-im6nt dang good point I feel like lock smiths should be required to see the papers of the owner of the home that would unless it's already enforced but I feel like it would be enforced and not enforced because laws are different in every state
@@mcgregathen420 They just use a piece of wax or the like, make an impression and can cut a copy from a blank. It is/was so common on cars, at dealerships, parking lots, and more, it's one reason the fobs became popular. Just look for Key Blanks, and they are all over, quick trip to Home Depot and stock up!
They tried this with me 😒 this is why i started actually GOING to the places first. Hopefully paypal will give her money back.
They sent it Friends and Family was a huge mistake 😢
I've never rented a place without actually visiting it first on my own.
So many reputable sources to rent from…why are people so dumb…
Proof positive that there is a new fool born every day
...
The accent is Nigerian. Who else Indians and Nigerians
