    I bought the Weigh Safe Middleweight hitch. Towing a 29’ travel trailer with a Ram 1500. Currently I’ve traveled 3500mi with it on our xcountry trip. When we passed thru OK, TX, and NM we experienced consistent 30mph winds with 50mph gusts for almost two days of towing with many tractor trailers too. I’ve never experience wind like this before coming from MA. The hitch did great, MUCH. better than my previous hitch (Blue Ox Sway Pro) I did slow down to 60mph during these two days. Made me feel better but I’m retired and have the time. Thanks for recommending Weigh Safe as it made our trip so much better. We are about half way on our xcountry trip now. Lots of fun still ahead.

    I’m new to driving with a 33.5 foot Travel Trailer. I only had my RV since 3/31/2023. July 2023, I drove pretty over big dip crossing the RR Tracks. The jolt twisted frame clamp and bar was loose. I called Curt after having the hitch inspected where the technician thought where the ball bearings sit, he said that the socket was cracked. My warranty was for 1 year and Curt said that I would need to buy another one. Well, we drove with the hitch for over 4800 miles with no issues other replacing the frame clamp but I didn’t like the way Curt approached the situation. I was at least I hoping they would recommend a site to have the hitch checked other than just saying your warranty is over. As soon as I get a chance, I am going with Weigh Safe HD winch set up after seeing your You Tube videos on the top 11 hitches.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Really nice video. I found your most recent hitch battle and I'm getting a Flagstaff 29BHS (35', 7700 dry) in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to go with the Weigh Safe middleweight for all the reasons you mentioned (also hoping my power tongue jack can move to the side and drop the tailgate. BUT, one thing that I think will be SUPER NICE is setting it up for different tow vehicles properly. We rent our camper and this one will be the same. Everyone shows up with a different rig, so it would be awesome to set it up for them and feel confident that it's dialed in. Thanks a ton for doing these! Super helpful! I just bought the weigh safe middle weight to replace my blue ox sway pro. I'm going to a new trailer so i won't have apples to apples, but i'm curious to see how it rides. I did have one question. I saw the disclaimer on the website about backing up steep driveways or sudden changes in grade. My driveway has some slope, nothing crazy. I've been backing my Blue Ox up it for years. Just curious if you had any experience with this.

    • @WanderingWeekends
      @WanderingWeekends  2 місяці тому

      I’ve backed up with the Weigh Safe for years. Unless you’re really jackknifing the setup or the slope is obviously inappropriately steep you’ll be fine.
      I’d actually suggest disengaging any WDH in those situations.

    • @GarrettHensley
      @GarrettHensley 2 місяці тому

      @@WanderingWeekends thank you for the honest reply. I have curb ramps already to make the approach angle more desirable. I actually have more clearance issues pulling out due to the direction of the slope and that’s only because my blue ox had like 8” of drop on the draw bar. Thanks again and if I don’t like the Weigh Safe I’m coming for you. Kidding of course. I have secretly disliked your reviews of blue ox. But I’m dying to be proven wrong. I’ve never had any sway issues, but would love to see less truck suck.

Worst case you snag a Weigh Safe and see what happens. If you still want a bigger truck at least you have a killer hitch to go with it. I’ve even had a few ProPride owners still go 3/4 ton so…

    i just ordered this hitch today with the 1200 lbs bars. I was very interested in the B&W Continum but my trailer has a middle frame member on the tongue so it wouldn't work due to the hydraulics getting in the way. I'm sure I'll be happy with the Weigh Safe and I can't wait to see how well it performs. With 800 lbs of tongue weight and 6800 lbs, I found the app's recommend distributed weight was too low vs sway. I added another 300 lbs (e.g. 2300 lbs). Should this be a concern? From the Middleweight Manuel.
    (NEVER tow or back up with spring arms attached if the
    angle between tow vehicle centerline and trailer centerline
    is greater than 60 degrees. Unhook spring arms while
    backing up to avoid this. Failure to do so may cause
    damage or hitch failure and will void warranty. )
    From the Equal-i-zer Site
    (Can I back up with the Equal-i-zer hitch?
    Yes, the Equal-i-zer hitch is designed to allow you to back up and take tight turns with the hitch hooked up. Just be sure the frame brackets are installed in the correct range on the trailer frame (27"-32" from the center of your coupler) so the arms have plenty of room (2"-3" after the bracket) to move during tight turns.)
    Thoughts?

I'm using a 10k Equalizer and the issue is that I'm pulling with a 2017 Navigator L, which only handles 850lbs or so for the tongue weight. I had 3 dealers from 3 different states tell me that I could pull the 25bhe, but it squatted way too hard on my trip home from GA to FL, and now I think my strut is damaged. To get it fixed under warranty, I just need to send it in, wait for them to repair it, and then Weigh Safe ship it back to me. Great... now I have no hitch to pull my camper! And now you see why you'll need a spare hitch setup for every time you need to send this very expensive hitch in to be repaired! We have now towed 5 times with the WS middle weight. My previous hitch was Equalizer 4 point. I tow a GD 2600 RB with a RAM 1500 max tow package.
    It does a very good job. Sway control is very good. I think performance in the wind is not as good as the equalizer. It does better with truck suck though. The WS hitch is significantly harder to connect and disconnect the sway bars. The truck has to be raised up VERY high. The placement of the adjustment screw on the head is a bad design, in my opinion. It provides a very tight tolerance for backing up. No more than an inch of variance before you hit it with the trailer receiver. This is a very different design than the heavy weight. For me, it was not worth the money over the Equalizer that I already had. I would definitely buy the heavy weight over the middle weight.

    You provide great info & videos; including the recent review on the Middle Weight & B&W; would have loved to have seen the install on the MW. I am pulling a 2022 GD Imagine 2600RB, 7850 GTW, 890 tongue weight, with a 2022 GMC 6.2 Sierra 1500Limited - and yes I wish it was a 2500. Trailer dealer agreed to install the TR3, but installed the R3, refunded my money and I went with the MW. WS Customer Service (super so far) thought it would need a 4" drop but it needed the 6" (actually 10.8" - per my tape and WS detail). Dealer tech put it in the top two holes in the rise position; we pulled it 180 miles in that position and it rode great. According to our calculations it needed to be dropped two holes and still requires the 6"; both positions raised the truck tires off the ground to slide the swing arms in and out with the lift arm - lot of stress on the jack; WS recommends spring arm platform to be 9" below the top of the hitch as ideal for the best tow position - currently it is 8 5/8" - so will move at least 1 hole down, which would be just over 9" and allow the arms easier access. Have not pulled it in the new positions, and look forward to doing so very soon. I would have loved for the MW to have the locking mechanism like the Heavy Weight to make it easier to remove and store. The tailgate drops without hitting the hitch, but the lube port goes up between the GMC letters, and that nixes the down position. THANKS AGAIN!

    Glad I watched this video - my wife complains how hard it is to remove the pins from the L-brackets. Problem solved with the equalizer pins. I guess I just figured they wouldn't be compatible.

    How's the noise of the springbars? Do the springbars need to be disengaged when backing up the trailer?

    • @WanderingWeekends
      @WanderingWeekends  Рік тому +1

      I need to disengage unless you are REALLY jackknifing it (that goes for any of these hitches really). It certainly makes noise. If that is a deal breaker take a look at the TR3.

    A little late now since you have hit most of the major players, but I'd like to mention the idea of a clip demonstrating the noise level for the trunnion bar style as you negotiate a parking lot. I've had the Anderson for going into my 3rd season and am 95% satisfied with it, but it does bounce a bit with the rubber bushings it uses and the Weigh Safe is very intriguing but I've heard enough trunnion style hitches rubbing and scrubbing their way around fuel stations and campgrounds and I'm just a bit apprehensive. That is the primary reason I went with the Anderson.

      I had a Weight Safe. Great but to heavy. Gave up a little performance going with Anderson. Don't regret it at all.

    Never going to get rid of sway. It’s all about how well the hitch works to control it and bring it back to its proper position.

    • @WanderingWeekends
      @WanderingWeekends  Рік тому +1

      I’d say unless one is trying to find it (like I do when I’m reviewing these things) no one would ever notice sway using this hitch.

    How does this hitch do backing up and on sharp turns, or U turns, compared to the others? is it easy to remove the re-attach the bars if need be to back up or make a sharp turn?

      I have not found any situation that required removing the bars, but they are a major PIA to remove.

     @Wandering Weekends So when all is said and done, if I'm looking for the least sway, is the HeavyWeight better than the MiddleWeight?

    • @WanderingWeekends

      I’d lean heavyweight if you aren’t concerned about the weight of the actual hitch.

      @@WanderingWeekends They look to be extremely close in the specs. 23lb difference?
      And would it being overkill for 7600lb trailer matter?

    Hey quick question and I’ve been searching the Internet for it, in your opinion do I need a weight distribution hitch if my tongue weight is 455 pounds and my max travel trailer weight will be 4400 pounds and my tow vehicle is Chevy Silverado 1500 ?

    • @WanderingWeekends
      @WanderingWeekends  Рік тому +1

      I’d use one. Whether you NEED one would be based on your truck’s specifications. Many trucks require a WDH to obtain their maximum capacities.
      Also keep in mind your hitch will likely weigh 200-250lbs more once you’re loaded and ready to camp. That’s even more weight taken from the steer axle.

      Congrats!! I’ll rank my suggestions…
      1. Weigh Safe Heavyweight
      2. TR3 (with the appropriately rated bars)
      3. ProPride (it ranks 3rd here because I don’t feel the price is justified vs the Weigh Safe but this is subjective)

    Is the sway control the same or worse than the heavyweight true tow? I’m looking at a trailer that’s 30’ and 5700lb dry weight, 7900 gross weight rating, towing with f150 max tow long wheel base. Just wondering if the heavyweight would be worth upgrade or not.

      I have pretty much the same set up you have. Just installed the middleweight with 8500 bars. So far so good…. Have not experienced very much sway but haven’t had harsh conditions yet or passed many semis, first big trip is next week….I was afraid of the 12500 bars might be to stiff for our application.
