I spent my pandemic realizing that the degree I picked was utter crap and wishing to switch right at the time if it weren't for the fact that going to university during the pandemic with online classes sucked even more. So I spend a lot of time playing video games and watching all kinds of media. Hadn't spotted this channel back then, so I'm now watching all the videos during the semester brake studying for a better degree. Luckily Germany does saddle you with tons of debt for going to college. I was born in 97 so I only get put in the Millennial category by people smoking stones. I however can identify with the Daria video a bit. There was a period where I believed nothing in life matters⛈ instead of ✨NOTHING ✨ IN ✨LIFE ✨MATTERS ✨. I still hold some optimism for the future but it's more the kind of optimism where we can get all the stuff outside the house before it burns down instead of the kind where you think you can save the house from burning down. In my opinion, that kind of thinking is pretty freeing.
I pretty much never comment on anything, but I watch and re-watch your videos AVIDLY. You've taught me so very much about the world and how to look at it and I can't thank you enough for that. I was worried about the silence here on your channel, and hoped you were alright. And I just wanted to say I'm glad that you took the time you needed to heal. It's great to have you back.
5:57 I got Outer Wilds 2 months ago, played through it in a couple of weeks and it was the most incredible experience I've ever had with a game. Strongly recommend.
I read this wrong and thought there was an Outer Wilds 2. I'm sad now. (Not that the game needs or even seems like it should have a sequel, but it's kinda one of those things that I want even though I know it probably isn't a good idea.)
@@leftovernoise You mean Echoes of the Eye? Yeah that is exciting, although I am managing my expectations - not sure what there is to add, but they seemed very aware of that in the announcement. Also, very pedantic side note (sry), but they're calling it an expansion, not DLC, the main difference I think being that it may not be free.
@@SamuelBoshier No apology needed! I appreciate the correction! I definitely felt like it ended where it needed to end. But considering that it's one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time, I have some faith they will make something amazing again. I also don't care how much they charge for it, I am happy to support them. If it turns out less than spectacular, I don't think it would soil my experience I had with the base game. I don't think anything can ruin that for me. I also hope this may get some more people to play the game in general.
At the very beginning when I started playing Disco Elysium, I tried to customize my cop to have stats that are similar to mine irl and I kept dying repeatedly. I finally accepted that I simply can't be a cop, but I was already in love with the game.
A few moments in games that floored me: Overcoming Chapter 9 of Celeste The opening sequence of Metroid Prime Defeating Bernard in Furi The ending of Portal
One I mentioned elsewhere: Level is Baba. It is incredible how a game can give you a thing that is simultaneously incredibly surprising and not at all surprising at the same time.
I just want to thank you! Discovering your channel was one of the few thing that helped me through 2020. I even shared your video on the begginner guide to my professor while we were discussing post struturalism in online class. Thank so much!
I watched all of your videos, but I don’t comment often. A year pre covid you helped me escape the alt right pipeline. I really like your non dogmatic approach to politics and a focus on unity, but not compromising your values. I feel similar to you in that covid was a way for me to escape and do the things I enjoyed. I discovered that I am a girl and that was nice. I still recommend people to watch your conservatism video because how helpful I see it to talk about political ideologies. I am glad you are doing ok and I can’t wait to watch more of your content
A world without joy is not worth building. Sharing the joy we find along the way makes the ends more possible, and the means more powerful. Thanks for your work in both making a better world, and sharing the joys of the world we've built so far.
I'm a big fan of your 'usual shit', but this was great! I have a deep appreciation for sharing things that I love and that had an influence on me with others, and I'm glad you have a platform to do that!
I love how all you had to do was say "Dummy was big for me" and flash a single frame of text, and while I did scrounge through to find it, it was only to find out how you said it; we already knew what it said.
Me: *spends the entirety of COVID spending exorbitant amounts of money on books* Me: *has an enormous backlog of books to go through that will likely take years* Me: *_very much does not need to be buying more books_* Also me: Ooh, book recs!
Same but for video games. Thankfully for my wallet I already played Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds, but I cannot resist a game thats apparently like both Oxenfree AND Kentucky Route Zero.
I am soooo ready for some more Innuendo Studios goodness. This is one of those channels whose content I rewatch constantly and always feel joy when the little bell tells me you've uploaded something.
@@skeet7903 I love Metroidvanias, but even still, Hollow Knight is the best of them. It's been my 2nd favorite game for almost half a decade. Jeez, time flies.
I like that youtubers are getting closer to their audience by daring to drop a facade of 'one type of content' to a more human, fluid adoption of content that is flexible/variable in appearance and focus.I seriously love when I percieved that someone is self-gratifying and cutting loose or being themselves, it's just so much more fun to be part of, even if I'm just a parasociall witness I'm hoping you had fun making this because I feel like you were. And do that more. :)
I've arrived at this video - and the channel in general - way after the fact, but it still resonates with my own discovery of little nuggets of joy and empathy throughout various iterations of "lockdown" - in a completely different country, no less. It seems like as good a place as any to say thanks and that this channel has been a marvellous find.
Came back here because I just finished reading The City in the Middle of the Night after this recommendation and was just absolutely floored. So thanks, Ian!
As strange as it sounds: It helps so much to just hear what someone else was driving joy from this past year. In times where I'm struggling to make the good parts stick, with bad parts lined with deified adhesive. You listing the parts that brought you joy, are the springboard needed for me to make connections to the joyful memories *I* have. They were just hidden behind some fluff. Thank you
Side note: There is no group I feel more envy towards than Lesbians. I've been a gay man, a bi man, and a bi woman at different points in my life, and none of those groups are as infectiously passionate just about... Art?? And all women in general? I have a lot of negative connotations with the more toxic elements of the L in LGBT. Terfs make me wanna light myself on fire; but in general. Lesbians are just making the world so much better
Had I known I'd have walked Jamaica Plain just to be among the cheering mood. I'm in Central MA where there are still signs and flags for that guy, so through you I'm vicariously enjoying that moment.
Regarding point 13: I am so happy others experienced this same rush of confused joy that comes with realising you've found a game that is truly special.
Thanks for making this video. Sorry to hear about your back. That's a special kind of pain. You'll heal, but it'll be slow and that makes the little moments that give you joy that much more precious.
Your video on the cucks has been in my feed like 7 or 9 times this year. Always puts a smile on my face. Thanks for keeping at it through all this, and my condolences for the back trouble. Good luck.
This video honestly hepled me through some dark days. Made my own list of things that bring me joy regardless of context. It was hard to do, because as an autistic person you can get incredibly invested in a certain thing (we call that special interest), but suddenly you fall out of love with it and can never enter that blissful headspace again. It's only sadness and cringe now, like thinking back to that stupid band you were super into when you were 12. Things that bring me lasting joy are rare. But I made a list and honestly it brings tears to my eyes only reading it in my notebook.
I just started binging these again because they got referenced in a Black Mesa review video, and now this drops. Good to have you back, and condolences about the medical issues.
@@InnuendoStudios "Black Mesa Is Genius And Here's Why" (by Soup Emporium) briefly brought up your video on arsenal design as a way of pointing out how Half-Life's arsenal and Black Mesa's differ.
It’s really nice to hear your voice again! You made a lot of good recommendations and I might have to get some books and play some video games after this!
I feel like I enjoy UA-cam comment sections a lot more than most people who have ever talked about the idea of reading UA-cam comment sections, and I'm not entirely clear on why my experience is so different. Thank you for your CO-VIDs. Here's hoping for better health for you going forward.
Thank you, for making this series. Though it may sound cliche, that video about Daria was truly eye-opening and life changing. I am forever changed because of you.
Mindhunter is David Fincher finally putting his talents not just towards artistry or faithful adaptation but making a salient point and it is so good. As someone with no interest in true crime or profiler copaganda but just the human psyche it was beautifully filmed and such a great deconstruction of the mythos. Just tremendous acting, tremendous framing and honesty.
A new innuendo studios production is reason enough to celebrate, but coming out of this with two new UA-cam channels to follow and three more books (at least) added to my reading list? Ian, you're really spoiling me.
Glad you've recovered and are feeling better! Also thanks for reminding me that I need to read Wonderbook and the rec on City in the Middle of the Night. Glad to see something new from you in my recs again, and best wishes to you!
The absolute horror of knowing what's about to happen but being unable to stop it or tell anyone about it is a recurring theme in The Outer Wilds, but the horror of that really hits you if you solve the quantum moon after discovering the fate of your predecessors. It absolutely broke me.
The wholesome content we needed. For what is worth your alt right playbook is weirdly (because of the content) my comfort watch. Love the pace, the humor, the notions and it kinda gives me hope. Hope you're better now, welcome back!
Back again, because the way you describe #1 on the list never fails to lift my mood. Talking about your happy place, made a happy place for someone else. Neat!
I only knew about 5 or 6 references that you made and I loved it. Your videos always show me how so many different people can live so many different lives.
I'm so glad of this video, not just because I've got some really good book recommendations from it. It's so enjoyable hearing other people talking about the things they're passionate about. The world needs more of stuff like this
I wanted to thank you for your post on Outer Wilds - I didn't read much of it before heeding the advice of "this is a game you want to approach knowing as little as possible", but it made me add it to my wish list, until I eventually bought and played it. I was an amazing game and it's a shame there are none like it!
Can relate to that new PC feeling. After making do for so many years, it feels amazing to own something that is actually top of the line; it actually does what I want, when I want it to. It feels self-centred or consumeristic, or something, but I don't mind admitting that it made a huge difference to my headspace in the last year.
Our computers are in a very real sense extensions of ourselves, now (just as our phones are after all). I may be biased as an IT sort of guy, but having a good computer is the same as having a good living space - it may be a luxury, but it's a meaningful one that - as you say - genuinely makes a difference in one's life.
Some things that really got me through: - starting to really get into Tom "Abbadon's" works, especially Lancer. Incredible stuff, and playing in that world and creating stories and characters online has been an irreplaceable experience. - spaces like your channel and other places where people are discussing interesting ideas in both media and our wider society has broadened my horizons and brought me a new perspective on art - i have listened to the Magnus Archives podcast up to the season 4 finale about 3 times now and specifically seasons 3 and 4 another time on their own. my 3 general comments: "this show makes me want to create audio dramas," "my mom liked this show," and "you should listen to it yourself if you haven't yet". - watching Star Trek TNG and DS9, really taking a lens to the creative processes and messages throughout the series. I'd never watched either series before so it was a great experience to see a lot of great (and not-so-great) sci-fi on screen. Yes I Know this one isn't really an original 'thing that got me through something' but I'm not going for originality here - listening to a lot of old R&B and soul music. Curtis Mayfield, my beloved.
I am happy to see you're still making content. To speak to your list, I adore Disco Elysium, and Carlos Maza's Plague video brought me to tears, and am happy to hear you like his work. Glad to see you're returning to your usual stuff. Thank you for your work!
Another person here to say your Daria vid really struck a chord with me and cheered me up when I was down. My millennial angst was really hard to define to myself let alone others, but your vid really helped clarify some things for me. I’d also never seen Daria and it made me really want to. Also, I really like these ‘recommendations’ videos from my favourite creators. It gives me insight into their tastes and thoughts whilst also giving me new stuff to enjoy. So thank you for sharing! 😊
I LOVE Innuendo Studios. I have been radicalized by covid and watched breadtube through and through but the channel I recommend most is you, vids like the Ghandi trap and the alt right playbook series have been incredible resources for me.
The first half was a beautiful case study in how to do an immersive world build without a drop of exposition necessary, and screw any writing theory that says it needed plot sooner.
During this pandemic, I got to listen to a few albums with a friend so we could discuss them one song at a time. And one I absolutely loved and would recommend despite the language barrier is "Tropicália ou Panis et Circenses". Made a few years into Brazil's dictatorship, it is innovative, cheerful and, at the same time, highly critical of the things that were happening in society
3 good things that got me through are Drawfee, Playframe, and Bisnap. Drawfee is four artists goofing around and playing off each other, and honestly if nothing else watch the episode where they draw tarot cards it gave me life. Playframe is a let's play channel. They've done the Kingdom Hearts series, soulsborne games, and more, and the personalities of everyone involved are delightful. Bisnap is a youtuber who has been going for a while now. I've been watching him play the Binding of Isaac since it was a flash game, and he still uploads Isaac daily. It is just such a comfort to watch him play.
I was actually just thinking "man it's been awhile since Innuendo Studios has posted a video, I hope he's ok". And then immediately realized one of the things that got ME through this last year was forgetting Twitter existed.
Accelerando is really a wild book. I love Charles Stross. He always writes those books that start really slow and seemingly unspectacular, but they always pick up such a wild momentum with jaw dropping twists and turns. You'll probably also enjoy Saturn's Children and You Are Dead.
I mean, for my part, I'd love some more of this every now and then. Even though your "usual bullshit" is what earned you my subscription, these smaller essays have been... I struggle to find a better word than refreshing, because while it has been that too, the feeling of something genuine is so much better, especially in the shared traumatic event that is a pandemic. Obviously not saying your "usual bullshit" is not genuine, but I think you understand the spirit of what I'm getting at. Point is, thank you for sharing your co-vids. It's been a good thing.
I just started playing Project Warlock (because of the mention in your 90s fps arsenal video) two days ago and I already have eight hours in it- right when you started number ten I already knew you were talking about Project Warlock. It’s gameplay style is hard to miss.
I did not know this about the Jenny Lewis comment section but I have separately been a little bit obsessed with how f*ing great that song is over the last few months, returning to it or a shuffle mix of her works every few weeks. Just one of the Guys is her Nessun Dorma.
So happy you're back, I've missed your videos. This channel has been one of the two best things I've discovered while in quarantine. The other best thing is something I think you might like. Its not a shooter or an adventure game, but its very surreal and unique. Anodyne 1 and 2. Give them a shot, they're both amazing. Keep up the good work!
10:20 by the time the “plot” of Anathem kicks in I had forgot there was even supposed to BE one. The world building is like half the book and it’s amazing

This
I pretty much never comment on anything, but I watch and re-watch your videos AVIDLY.
In case you hadn't heard yet, they have doc coming out soon and I am unreasonably excited
I also hope this may get some more people to play the game in general.
outer wilds is an absolute banger and i don't know if I will ever be able to play a game like outer wilds ever, and it's frigging amazing
At the very beginning when I started playing Disco Elysium, I tried to customize my cop to have stats that are similar to mine irl and I kept dying repeatedly. I finally accepted that I simply can't be a cop, but I was already in love with the game.
A few moments in games that floored me:
Overcoming Chapter 9 of Celeste
The opening sequence of Metroid Prime
Defeating Bernard in Furi
The ending of Portal
Me still clenching my fists when reading Celeste Chapter 9
Over Covid I discovered I wasn’t a girl I wish I could give you a high five
Innuendo: "Alright, we're done with CO-VIDs."
Delta: "Might wanna rethink that one, chief."
Haha fun good fine slow motion callapse cute uuhh dumpster fire much right no future mercy killing sadism emoji
If you reading this, this youtube channel.. helped turn me from a conservative to a socailist. THANK you
A world without joy is not worth building. Sharing the joy we find along the way makes the ends more possible, and the means more powerful. Thanks for your work in both making a better world, and sharing the joys of the world we've built so far.
As we go into our sixth lockdown here in the land of Aus, this video is keeping me alive. Thank you. I missed you. Be well.
Genuinely so excited and happy to see Disco Elysium on the list
this is literally my reaction when i see de mentioned anywhere. so fucking good
Kim kitsuragi, best boy
Me: *spends the entirety of COVID spending exorbitant amounts of money on books*
Me: *has an enormous backlog of books to go through that will likely take years*
Me: *_very much does not need to be buying more books_*
Also me: Ooh, book recs!
I have two shelves of books I haven’t read yet plus more and yet I still go to bookstores
Same but for video games. Thankfully for my wallet I already played Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds, but I cannot resist a game thats apparently like both Oxenfree AND Kentucky Route Zero.
Over the course of COVID I've bought 90 books...
Of those books I've finished reading 5
Beware the addictive hobby that is spending money on another hobby.
Me with Blu-rays 🥴
I am soooo ready for some more Innuendo Studios goodness. This is one of those channels whose content I rewatch constantly and always feel joy when the little bell tells me you've uploaded something.
You are so vastly under appreciated. I adore your work - and you. Thank you for sharing!
Can I say how your co-vid about Daria helped me trough the pandemic? Because it hella did
I've watched it at least 5 times over now. Yet, I never watched a full episode of Daria owing to my parents staunch hatred of MTV and cable TV
@@daegon1985 Ditto. I actually put it as an MP3 on my phone
I'm rewatching it, and dang that was me in high school.
@@daegon1985 that’s how I am with the alt right playbook sometimes
@@daegon1985 I have never watched that video or the show. Will that video spoil too much of what happens in it?
I just finished Embassytown and I don't think I will ever be the same again.
I played Hollow Knight, Furi, and Celeste during quarantine, not to mention the entire Portal, 3D Mario, and Souls series.
It was a good time.
I played Hollow Knight also and even as someone who hates metroidvania type games I really enjoyed it.
I was on a Furi binge for weeks and then never touched it since. I'll never get that fast again.
Lesbians are just making the world so much better
thing about lesbians is, the ones who aren't TERFs often hate TERFs' guts
Ooh, which vid mentioned me?
As someone who went back into a new lockdown today I needed this. Thank you Innuendo Studios
I literally applauded when the video stopped. So glad to have you back. I can't think of a better way to have ended CO-VIDs.
The absolute horror of knowing what's about to happen but being unable to stop it or tell anyone about it is a recurring theme in The Outer Wilds, but the horror of that really hits you if you solve the quantum moon after discovering the fate of your predecessors. It absolutely broke me.
I finished embassytown last night and I loved it.
Neat!
Good Supplement to this video would be the Channel of 'Second Thought'.
Welcome back! Glad you’re still kicking.
I only knew about 5 or 6 references that you made and I loved it.
Your videos always show me how so many different people can live so many different lives.
I'm so glad of this video, not just because I've got some really good book recommendations from it. It's so enjoyable hearing other people talking about the things they're passionate about. The world needs more of stuff like this
I have no idea what almost anything on this list is, but it's so good to hear folks just being happy about things.
Thank you for your wonderful work!❤️🖤Your videos got me through almost a year of quarantine!
This man doesn't post often, but when he does it feels like all is right with the world.
it's so great to hear from you. my day's got exponentially better just because of you. thanks.
Welcome back, my friend. Your videos are some of my favorite things on UA-cam. Thank you for all you do.
The most prominent thing I can thank for carrying me through the pandemic was the zachtronics catalog
i love this video so much. so so much.
I wanted to thank you for your post on Outer Wilds - I didn't read much of it before heeding the advice of "this is a game you want to approach knowing as little as possible", but it made me add it to my wish list, until I eventually bought and played it.
I was an amazing game and it's a shame there are none like it!
I loved every second of this series. It's one of my things that got me through, that and watching your backlog over
As a fellow chronic pain due to herniated disk sufferer: I see you. Hope you find some relief and thank you for the wonderful videos.
@@KillahMate yeah love this take. That and my phone are definitely extensions of my mind, they certainly store half of all my memories :P
I've really enjoyed these lighter videos this past year! Thanks for bringing some levity to it!
You reminded me about Obduction and Outer Wilds which I had intended to play but completely forgotten.
Thank you.
Some things that really got me through:
- starting to really get into Tom "Abbadon's" works, especially Lancer. Incredible stuff, and playing in that world and creating stories and characters online has been an irreplaceable experience.
- spaces like your channel and other places where people are discussing interesting ideas in both media and our wider society has broadened my horizons and brought me a new perspective on art
- i have listened to the Magnus Archives podcast up to the season 4 finale about 3 times now and specifically seasons 3 and 4 another time on their own. my 3 general comments: "this show makes me want to create audio dramas," "my mom liked this show," and "you should listen to it yourself if you haven't yet".
- watching Star Trek TNG and DS9, really taking a lens to the creative processes and messages throughout the series. I'd never watched either series before so it was a great experience to see a lot of great (and not-so-great) sci-fi on screen. Yes I Know this one isn't really an original 'thing that got me through something' but I'm not going for originality here
- listening to a lot of old R&B and soul music.
I was so happy to see one of your videos, I was concerned something might have happened. Hope you recover from your back soon!
I LOVE Innuendo Studios. I have been radicalized by covid and watched breadtube through and through but the channel I recommend most is you, vids like the Ghandi trap and the alt right playbook series have been incredible resources for me.
Was wondering where you've been the last couple months. Glad to hear you're recovering. I look forward to hear what you have to say next.
Missed you. Thanks for sticking it out. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say!
Glad you recovered from that herniated disc man! It's great to hear you again
Third is So Underrated. Thank you for putting more people on to it.
Thanks for the positivity, Ian. 💜💜
Look, I've seen Parasocial Hell by Shannon Strucci, I know we're just Strangers on the Internet, but HOLY SHIT I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK
EMBASSYTOWN
That's one of my top books, probably. China Mieville is an excellent writer and I absolutely adore his dive into scifi.
The first half was a beautiful case study in how to do an immersive world build without a drop of exposition necessary, and screw any writing theory that says it needed plot sooner.
Also errant signal is one of the best channels on this site. It feels good seeing him get the recognition he deserves.
Outstanding to see you back here. We also cheered like that here in Columbus
Oh, the title track on that one by Os Mutantes is so good.
I hope you feel better now, every video you post keeps my sanity in this pandemic but it is most important that you are healthy and well.
So glad to see one of your videos again. There is a LOT of horrifying stuff to talk about this year.
Thanks again. Personable and wonderful as always.
Amazing to have you back! Hope that disc is much much better now.
Sorry to hear about your spine! Hope it's doing better! Also glad to see you back!
I was actually just thinking "man it's been awhile since Innuendo Studios has posted a video, I hope he's ok". And then immediately realized one of the things that got ME through this last year was forgetting Twitter existed.
didn't expect this video to just be you talking about all my favorite movement shooters and immersive sims
Love your vids, man. Glad to see you in my feed again.
Lovely as always. I’d certainly watch more “here’s what I’m loving at the moment” videos :)
Thanks for talking about this. It gave me a quick "Huh. I like it, when people talk about things they enjoy" moment.
hey dude hope u feel better soon !!! ur videos are often the things that helped me thru lockdown as well, so, thank u
I did not know this about the Jenny Lewis comment section but I have separately been a little bit obsessed with how f*ing great that song is over the last few months, returning to it or a shuffle mix of her works every few weeks. Just one of the Guys is her Nessun Dorma.
Thank you for sharing your happy things
your Co-vids are in my list of things that got me through
So happy you're back, I've missed your videos. This channel has been one of the two best things I've discovered while in quarantine. The other best thing is something I think you might like. Its not a shooter or an adventure game, but its very surreal and unique. Anodyne 1 and 2. Give them a shot, they're both amazing.
Keep up the good work!
Love to see that you are back, I became a patron of yours when I heard of your health problems.
10:20 by the time the “plot” of Anathem kicks in I had forgot there was even supposed to BE one. The world building is like half the book and it’s amazing
the clapping montage would totally be on my list of things that got me through
