    I saw one of these in W H Smiths and have been inspired to start gathering information for one in 5 inch gauge!! I have a set of wheel castings so you could say I have started!!!
    I must get one for our Southern layout!!!

    Another superb review mate! Hornby have shown a real return to form with recent models including this one. An amazing job, given they didn't have a prototype to go on. Did away with the fake coal load as soon as I removed mine from the box, a little tricky though as it snagged on the left hand side. Would be interesting to know which tender variant this model has, as the Late Crest version has the 14' variant. Great work mate, and thanks for sharing.

      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому +1

      TheSoutherner Thanks mate! They sure have indeed! It really it is stunning! Looking forward to seeing yours with your realistic coal load ;) . Hmmm, honestly don't know what this one has. Glad you enjoyed!

    • @TheSouthernerYTChannel
      @TheSouthernerYTChannel 9 років тому +1

      SDJR7F88 I have 3 engines in the works for coal-load fitting, but only enough coal for one. :D Mine has a 56mm tender wheelbase, so it's the 14'. The 13' should be 52mm.

      Phil Wilson Thanks Phil! Glad you enjoyed! Trues out the mold line is for the molding to allow different chimney designs, which is great to Hornby are thinking of that. Should be interesting to see more variants of the class in the near future from them.

    re the mold parting line on the smoke box, it would seem my example has it too. It's more noticeable on the right side, but until you brought it to my attention, I'd not noticed it before and I received mine about a week ago.

      Geoffrey Baines Yes, it would seem so. I very clever idea by Hornby indeed. Just a shame it does show a bit. Still not worry, as it really is a superb looking model indeed

    The black motor is one of the trifecta of classic Drummond prototypes along with the M7 and the T9, I bought one as soon as it came out and it's a little corker how has it been performance wise?

    Nice to see the return of sprung buffers . but I would have foregone these on this model for proper metal piping (is there no copper mines in china !) , and a better defined smoke-box door , which I think struggles to look a separate part on this model .

    • @SDJR7F88
      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому

      SuperWHIZZO It is nice indeed, though I personally don't mind sprung or un-sprung. I love the amount of detail that is on these Drummond Design locos. The smoke box really gives them away ;)

    Hornby themselves have just uploaded a video today of R3238. The Dunkirk train pack seems a good one.
    £95 - great value. Nice idea for die-cast weight.
    It was a 4F right? On the cab it seems to say 3F?
    Nice review. Well done Hornby too. Laurie

      The fire box is a feature usually added after so to see it in the model as standard was quite a suprise

  • @FarlandHowe
    @FarlandHowe 9 років тому

    It has wonderful detail in the cab controls, the piping is superb on top of the firebox as is the whistle. She runs remarkably well for never have been run in. The flaw on the smoke box top is odd. It would be very interesting to know if others have the same issue. Otherwise it is a great little model. Your review style has changed a bit. It is okay, just not the spontaneous jubilation of the past. Best, Rob

    • @SDJR7F88
      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому

      Rob McCrain Thank Rob! It sure is a superb model indeed! Hornby are really back in the game! I so pleased with the preformance, keep up to the high standard of the past few models reviewed. Turns out the line on the smoke box is to do with the molding in the factory for different funnels. It more visible on certain model (like this one), so it not such a big deal. Yes, I hope it's ok. I found that it is a lot easier to do them like this. As filming a review in long parts tends to lead to mistake, many retakes, and of course endless blabbering :D I wrote a script for this one too, which was a real help indeed ;)

    • @FarlandHowe
      @FarlandHowe 9 років тому +1

      SDJR7F88 Here is a trick I use. When I make a mistake, I just hold the camera steady and say it again. Then later I can cut the bad section and no one will notice. Rob

    A very nice looking model, saw one in my local model shop last Friday and was very tempted but decided to wait for the D16 and bought some wagons instead! Not to sound negative but was this done using a script/notes as it sounds a bit robotic unlike your other reviews?

    • @SDJR7F88
      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому +1

      Steam in the North West Thanks mate. Sounds like a plan. Looking forward to seeing those too. Ah, sorry you don't like the new type of review mate :/ I though I would try this out, as it is a lot easier for me to film, plus means I will hopefully get all my facts and figures right. I found that when trying to film all in one go it would take many takes, I would end up get very stressed with filming, which of course I want to enjoy filming these videos ;) Also it means I can get up there and film it in-between shifts at work. As it is not often I get a whole day to my trains ;)

    • @SteamintheNorthWest
      @SteamintheNorthWest 9 років тому +1

      SDJR7F88 Seems fair enough. Liked the bit where each individual section was shown in order but just a bit less robotic

      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому

      befrank88 Thanks mate. Are you on about the molding mark around the bottom of the chimney? Along the top of the smoke box? I did cover that when looking at the boiler ;) Turns out that's for the interchangeable tooling for the different variants. Glad you enjoy.

  • @MulliGWR
    @MulliGWR 9 років тому

    Another great review Callum. Must say, I really hate the Black Motors as locomotives, I think they're really quite ugly and disproportioned in comparison to other 0-6-0 Tender locos, such as the C Class, Collett Goods or 4F. HOWEVER, I don't deny, Hornby have done a very good job at modelling it. It's very accurate!

    • @SDJR7F88
      @SDJR7F88  9 років тому

      ***** Thanks ever so much Simon. I don't know what it is about the class, but I love the in your face design of it. Of course you can't bet a 4F and Collett! ;) Hornby really have out done themselves with it! Really great job indeed! The Southern livery one looks superb! :D

    • @MulliGWR
      @MulliGWR 9 років тому +1

      SDJR7F88 I wouldn't necessarily stretch to say 'out done' themselves as they've done just as well in the past! However they're back to the acceptable standard of production which over the last few years they have really let slip! It's good to see them come back into the game. Two years ago, I'd have said Hornby had lost the plot and Bachmann were the superior outfit. However now I'd call them equal in terms of production quality!
