Years since I heard myself playing bass on this track. I,m 3rd from left in the 1965 photo in Cologne during our mod days before we got flower powered. Oh Happy Days.
That's me playing Tenor Sax ,swannee whistle and starting pistol ! John O'hara also plays Tenor on this and the backing track was put down first and John' s singing on top !
Hello - Just reading Bruce Welsh's rocklopaedia What About Us and found this. My old 60s band gets a mention and believe it or not the recording we made as a follow up to our only release in 1965 has just been found and released June 2018. I got the band back together and made a video so it's me 78 miming to me singing 25 @ spread the word and we might start trending : -)
This band originated in Glasgow as The Ralph Danks Playboys. They relocated to England circa 1966, with flats in London and Sheffield and went through a number of personnel changes. They're one of over 930 bands, with 330 photos, covered in What About Us? A Rocklopaedia Of Britain's Other Recording Groups 1962 - 1966. Thanks for posting this great tune!
Fantastic Band A feature in Club land and the Black Swan in the early days,Remember Bobby Campbell a great vocalist and musician,R.i,P Robert ,and there was not a better vocalist live on the circute than Mr John O'Hara,Remember New Jersey Turnpike,Bob ,Ross Grant etc they ruled club land.
Umskiddy...the cool black dude is Dennis Overton.......he played Tenor Sax but left the band two years before this was recorded...I took his place and was with the band for more than three years !
Jack Usher, who managed The Cumbria Club in Millom always (by popular demand) booked John and the boys whenever possible. Their rendition of Exodus was classic. I saw them often in the 1970s, a great night out!
