I know you made this video two years ago. I just got mine yesterday and tried it as my EDC, I love it. I also have many of the same knives you have in this video.
Very good video and excellent choices for hard use knives. I agree with you about those who complain about the jimping being too excessive (I'll refrain from mentioning one channel by name (M.C.) who goes on and on whining about the jimping). That said, I would never use any of my hard use EDC's for batoning.....ever. Thats what fixed blades are for, and lets face it, who does serious camping without a fixed blade, or even an axe/hatchet for that matter? And thanks for the tip about the sheath! I spent an hour yesterday trying to find a suitable sheath for the SOG. Subscribed.
As far as batoning goes, I definitely see your point with that weak spot on the blade. The fact that it has bearings would make me shy away from the baton even more. Out of all the knives on that table, I think that sog has the nicest blade shape and the most comfortable looking handle. Thanks for your thoughts on this one, glad you have it in your collection. Excellent v ideo, and awesome collection! I might add the Artisan Cutlery Proponent to this "Hard Use" collection. In addition to the very thick blade stock, it has a removable steel pin that inserts through the blade and both sides of the handle, which makes it a virtual "fixed" blade knife. Thanks again!
It's very comfortable to carry this type of kinda big, but flat folders just like appendix carry guns. No need in holsters, and a lot of room in a pocket for something else.
I carried the Manix 2XL as my EDC for 6yrs before a friend gave me a S.O.G. Seal XR Flipper as a Christmas gift this year. I love both knives so much I can't pick a favorite !!
Great colletion! Personally I wouldnt worry about the hole in the sog seal xr. There are people even batoning with spyderco knives with the only result in eventually destroying the lock and they dont have a nearly as thick blade stock as that sog. So if you dont take a two hand sledge hammer you should be fine
The Adamas is easier to open than most others.. simply pull back on the lock and give it a minimal flick of the wrist. No need to switch grip to use the thumbstud.
I have SOG Seal XR, ZT0308 and Recon 1. And I think ZT 0308 better, because has a frame lock. Sand and mud destroys tri-ad lock and axis lock (and similar locks, like XR), but can do nothing to frame lock. (Sorry for my bed English)

I have a question unrelated to the SOG Seal XR……..why doesn’t the manual opening Adamas have a lock to secure the axis lock? The auto Adamas has it.
Not sure, but I assume because of the Auto feature.

I really like it.....but heavy for edc; still prefer the recon 1, the contego (discontinued now), and manix xl for daily use.

Why was the csar t discontinued. Or are they just crazy rare. Imo the best thing to happen to this category of knives

The sog has that same feature. 3 ways to open.
You can actually just flick it really hard and it will open. No need to do anything else.

Unless you're batoning with a metal saw there's nothing that's going to break or damage the thumb hole on the blade of the S.O.G.
