City Girl Visits The Farm!

- The video starts off with a parts run for the combine. We noticed a casting on the back axle had a crack in it so we wanted to make sure we had a new one one hand in the event that would break. The parts store often is not open on Sunday so it is nice to have ahead of time.
I got back to the main farm, hopped in the 1981 John Deere 4840 and tried starting it. I was having issues with the starters so after a phone conversation with Daddy Cornstar, we got it figured out (there was a loose bolt on the starter). On the way to the farm we were picking corn at, I picked up my girlfriend, who is a city girl. She is excited to be on the channel and she loves learning more about the farm and how equipment works.
Halfway through the first day, Daddy Cornstar had to pull the semi into the shop to put in some new bolts on a gear box that was falling off. It took us 5 minutes to fix the issue and then we went back to the field. I taught Hneiva how to drive the grain cart and then she did her first unload on the go as well as her first unload on the semi. I felt she was able to run the machine just fine, so I ran off to get diesel fuel for the combine. Once I got back, Summer was acting - interesting. Before the night ended, I taught Hneiva how to back up a trailer.
The next day we had a few things in the big machine shed to shuffle around and then started combining corn. Good news! We had pizza for lunch... again. We combined late into the night until the combine stopped. We think the hydraulic pump exploded on the combine. Before the night ended, we pulled the grain cart tractors into the shop to be serviced the next day.

Me too... A bit concerned when she was modeling a stalk about to be harvested (I knew the combine was going to stop, but still... It's an automatic 'Momma warning system' thing) but after that I was laughing at the silliness. It was fun! 😄🌽

Hope your combine is an easy fix, and not the pump. And as much as I love pizza, I think it may be time for an intervention for Daddy Corn. Isn't there anywhere nearby where you could order a sub, or burger, chicken? Or just make some sandwiches. Anything before you start smelling like pepperoni(and corn). When I met my Aussie farming husband and his family, as a “townie” myself - grew up in a regional town not on a farm, my biggest fears at the farm were A) forgetting to remove my shoes at the door when entering the house B) placing an akubra hat on a table on its brim instead of upside-down (big no-no) and C) being unable to open a farm gate while everyone was watching....because that is just so embarrassing. I can sympathise with Nave on the big learning curve she is on.

Cole needs to find himself a wife.....maybe he has found her. My Grandparents were farmers in Missouri and that is why i enjoy your channel. You are doing what I never got the chance to do. I am now 59. I spent every summer at the farm until I was 14 but never was allowed to drive the tractors or combine. I did finally get to drive a tractor later in life but I never got to drive the combine. Just subscribed but this is one of my favorite channels.

Quick question. If soy beans are more expensive when you sell and they take less nutrients added to soil and dont require soil turnover would it not be more profitable to switch crop all to soybean or is there not enough demand or something?

Regarding the Case been lighter on the front than the Deere - it probably comes down to a number of factors. Obviously the bigger grain cart on the Case makes a difference. Also the Deere appears to have a few more front weights than the Case. Finally the Case 7140 would've come as standard with 20.8R42 tires vs 20.8R38 for the Deere. Therefore the tongue of the drawbar on the Case is most likely further back from the rear axle than the Deere, which has an effect on the amount of weight on the front of the tractor.

As you well know it's hard to have a smaller dairy farm now a days. The 1.29 a gallon for milk kills the dairy Farmer. I wish we still had the farm because I would give the shit life I mean city life up in a heart beat. I hope you have strong returns on your yield this year.

For Hneiva and all the tractor drivers:my uncle gave me a little trick: while backing a trailer or a grain cart behind the tractor:just think that it is your hand that is in place of the tractors tow bar!
My dad taught me to put my hand on the bottom of the steering wheel and move it gently in the direction I wanted the back of the trailer to go.
