We love ours. We do about 85% of our trips on pure electric. Summer time the mpge shows as about 65mpge. Winter really takes a hit with heating that huge beast and the ICE kicks on a fair bit, and mpge drops to about 35mpge. Which is still great for a minivan!
Mpge doesn't really tell you anything useful, I wish these EVs would start showing miles per kwh, would let you tune your driving and give you useful information in efficiency
Learned from this review that the engine always goes on, for at least a little bit. That really disappoints me. Was hoping it had a selection button so that we could do all our local errands on pure EV mode, then charge on solar power.
Thanks for the review! I appreciate that you pointed out some of the things that you both liked and didn't like, even the little silly things. We weren't originally planning on a minivan, but last thing today (after a long day of car shopping), we tried a hybrid Pacifica - only Pacifica that the dealer had left. It seemed really nice, and considering the price and versatility, we're looking to buy it tomorrow.

Great review! We bought our 2021 PacHy Pinnacle nearly 4 weeks ago and so far it's working great. Our driving profile is a lot of short local trips, with a lot of idling during the week (10-15 hours). We're definitely going to be looking at a level 2 charger as well. So far Chargepoint seems to have a good model but we are new to the Plug-in vehicles and are still doing a lot of research.
I'm literally currently renting one for a family vacation - the first electric car I have ever driven . The home we are renting has a charging port that I may use so we drove here on gas from the airport and have been using electricity to get around town for free. The home owner according to the rental agent allows me to do this in the rental. Love the 2 hour charging cycle and I am impressed with vehicle overall, it's capacious, nippy and comfy with room for all - swallowed our family of 4 and 4 full sized cases with only the smaller of the rear seats folded. With the whole rear seat folded we have tons of space. Great car and nice review, but I don't think you needed to focus too much on the lack of a warning light on the electric door - it's right by the drivers door and an adult, even in a hurry, should be able to notice it!
Tom, good point about charge flap. My e-Golf does not have flap sensor. I will look for this when I buy another EV as my wife would probably forget to close flap.
Tom, great review. I suspect this vehicle sells poorly due to dealer FUD. Like you pointed out, only real downside is second row folding. Otherwise, hybrid is cheaper to buy and operate.

Great point about on board charger. I can’t believe BMW supplies a vehicle with a 24 kWh pack but does not include a 30 amp (or better) on board charger. The X5 e should have a CCS port, for that matter, as even if BMW throttled DCFC to 2C (~40 - 60 kW), X5 could hit 80% SoC in about 20 minutes.
just bought the hybrid. to answer your question: fewer consumers actually perform cost analysis, they just just look at the higher sticker price and conclude they can't afford it
Really good in depth review! I wish you would have gone more in depth about the actual EV range you got including how hard is it to accelerate and keep it in EV mode.
A little late for an answer I know but I easily get over 32 Miles if I take backroads to my destination. Hwy is probably more like 28 to 30 miles. I live in Atlanta so cold winters are not a thing I can speak on. If you live in a warm climate I think you would be happy with the range. For the gas engine to come on you really need to be flooring it. The acceleration from a stop is very good on pure EV. 70% of my miles are EV only.
@@Dryloch I have recently bought a 2021 and have found the all electric acceleration to be very adequate. Mine never goes to gas power on my normal trips.
Good review but I would mention that there is no stow and go but on the second row the seats are way bigger and more confortable than the stow n go ones and they are super easy to take out...
We got the Pinnacle trim specifically for the more comfortable second row. On long trips, like we do (3000 miles) the extra comfort will be much appreciated.
Interesting observation happened recently! The EPA numbers drastically changed on the site from the time of video shooting: the difference between gasoline and PHEV versions in 2021 models consudering average spending on the fuel and electricity got increased from 3500 to 4500 USD calculated for 5 years usage!
I know this an older video but I do have say a plug in hybrid is a no brainer for me and I actually rented this vehicle and now I will buy one and I do have a lot experience with plug in hybrid as I currently own a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime and I will be trading in for a Pacifica Limited Hybrid. I didn’t even know there was a minivan plug in hybrid, but I wasn’t a minivan fan until I rented one and seen how practical and spacious they are and I never thought I would ever like a minivan but the plug in is the best as I in the last year of owning my Toyota Prime I only filled my gas tank 4 times so the cost saving is real and it really don’t use that much electric to charge. I only have the lower trim in the Toyota and it only has a 3.3 KWh charger and I I did install a 240 volt charger to facilitate the fast charge feature as I do like the gentleman in the video I do multiple trips and just plug in every time I come home so as not to use the gasoline as much. I can’t wait to get the Pacific Plug in Hybrid.
Good luck. Just realize that Chrysler has had some growing pains and the 2021 and 2022's have been known to stall at full speed when driving. Currently under investigation for a recall. It's still a great minivan but just be prepared for some hiccups.
I'm thinking about buying one of these. I wish it had stow and go seating in second row, but I can live without it. The Pacifica's second row seats are absolutely effortless to remove compared to the seats in our Nissan NV. But, I still love the NV anyway.
My heat works fine on e mode but it’s only in the 40’s as a low where I live. I wonder what temp the straight e won’t cut it anymore and gas starts sploding?
Great review! We were looking at the 2021Pacifica Hybrid and the 2021 Toyota Sienna. After looking both at and driving both it was a no brainer. The Pacifica Hybrid is better looking, better quality interior, and saves more in the long run. Was not impressed with the rear cheapness of the Sienna and horrible breaks it had. 2021 Pacifica here we come....

It’s in our garage so it does not get to cold 🥶 in there for the cord to get stiff. So easy to set up and install though. This will be our first EV anything so we are excited and nervous. I will say I went to go and buy the Toyota Sienna and walked away. So underpowered with just me driving. I could not imagine with the whole family and luggage. On a hill or passing would be a nightmare. Worst hybrid breaks I have ever pressed on a Toyota Hybrid as well. Super unpredictable and grabby. Lastly very cheap in the rear of the Sienna. You cannot remove the 2nd row seats and in the 3rd row you can literally shake the walls where the cup holders are. Such thin/cheap materials. I could not do it. Had Some cool tech but that was about it. Toyota really misses the mark.

Like all cars, this one appears to be a mix of some really cool features, and some very frustrating omissions. The fact that this is a PHEV with a HUGE 16 kw-hr battery, that doesn't let you select EV-exclusive Mode, would be EXTREMELY frustrating to anyone who has driven a Toyota PHEV like the Prius Prime. Having a 6 kW on-board charger as standard even in the base trim is definitely a Plus, especially considering that the Rav4 Prime has only a 3 kW charger in it's base trim. Not having the 2nd row seats fold into the floor would be annoying, but at least you can remove them, unlike the Sienna seats, which can't be easily removed at all (you can unbolt the seat rails from the floor if you absolutely had to remove them, but this requires a T-50 Torx driver, and re-installing the seats later can be very difficult - lining up those 4 bolt holes in the seat rails with the holes in the floor can be a nightmare). Having the gas engine being a V-6 instead of an I-4 hurts the fuel economy, and makes the vehicle much more difficult to work on. The Pacifica PHEV doesn't offer AWD at all. Lastly, the $40,640 MSRP is going to be hard to take for a lot of potential buyers, especially considering that the Rav4 Prime starts at $38,250 and has at least 10 miles longer EV range, and AWD is standard. The Pacifica has a huge amount of cargo capacity, however, especially if the second and third row seats are removed - way more cargo volume than a Rav4. But if Toyota comes out with a Sienna Prime later this year or in 2022, with a powertrain based on the Rav4 Prime, and at a competitive price point, it will bury the Pacifica PHEV.
I love the Pacifica hybrid Tom. However, the Inez issue I have is that the vehicle only charges the battery on regen and that’s not enough to charge. Wish it would charge while driving down the road like the Toyota hybrid drives do. Other than that, it’s a great vehicle.
Want to make sure that I understand this correctly, the battery DOES charge while driving? Just needs to be a longer drive? Really want one for road trips with my kids but don't have a plug in charger at home and would not want to always go somewhere for a two hour charge.

would be nice to have 100 mile range on this, most of our short trips are 65 to 80 round trips and would amazing to not have to use fuel, then long trips would amazing as well for being able to use electric for some of the trip then back to gas i can see people being able to purchase more with better range
It's a great overall package, but the lack of a dedicated EV function is pretty much a deal breaker for me. Easily the best minivan on the market, but with Toyota pushing the Prime versions of their vehicles and they're announcing 2 new EVs and a new plug in, I bet the Sienna Prime shows it's face. I think the Sienna looks better, and a prime version would absolutely take the cake. Awesome video!
Thanks for the insight. I have a question. If I am not driving but just stay in the car with the AC or heat on for extend period of time, can I make the car use up all the electricity in the battery first? Or the gas engine will have to come on?
Sitting with the AC uses mostly the battery. Every once in a while the engine will run for a few minutes and then shut off again. When charging the engine never comes on so you can sit while charging and have the AC on. I don't know about heat because I Iive in Atlanta.
It’s not selling more because of the dealers, last year I went to a dealer to look at one and the sales man said they don’t order any of the hybrids because there is no advantage over the regular. I told him the regular Pacifica has no real advantage over any other minivan, then I left. I will probably by the hybrid in a few months though (from another dealer).
We just purchased a 2022 hybrid touring L model. We love it so far and only have the level 1 charger. Is there any way to figure out if the level two charger would be more efficient, I know it is much faster, but does it use the electricity more efficiently to charge it?
Tom, you failed to mention the recalls. This van got me all excited when it was first announced, the big red flag was that it was made by Chrysler. In 2017, FCA/Chrysler/JEEP models filled out 7 of the 10 Least Reliable Consumer Reports list. The first 9,000 Pacifica Hybrids were recalled due to stalling out, and there have been 2 subsequent recalls through 2020, both related to the vans catching on fire. The non-hybrid Pacificas have suffered a staggering number of recalls. I felt for the poor folks who bought these vans on the Pacifica Hybrid Facebook page, wondering for months if they'd ever see their vans again. I seriously considered this van as the Model Y was not scheduled to be available for well over 2 years in 2018 and my wife's Prius was on it's last legs. Test driving it felt soft and wallowy even compared to the Prius and I was not about to buy anything without a plug. There is no one pedal driving and regen is set to a compromise default as a no-brainer setting for soccer moms. One bonus is that the center row seats are far more plush and comfortable than the Stow-N-Go versions fitted in the gas Pacificas. Those are thin and brutal on adults for anything more than short hauls. ID.Buzz has tons of flexibility, fun and utility baked into the concept, yet how many years is one expected to wait for a family van that can carry everything you can throw at it? ID.4 and Model Y are at the top of my list to replace the base Model 3 we finally ended up with. Elon has talked about a van and it would seem a more affordable, less complex, slightly larger cargo carrying family mover than Model X would be a home run.
Soft and wallowy versus a prius and model 3? ;) Well it is a 5,000 lb van compared to smaller, lighter, shorter sedans. ;) Big vehicles to be boaty. No one pedal driving, meaning it drives like 99% of the vehicles on the road? Most of the OEMs setup their PHEVs with mixed braking on the brake pedal, so the intent is to drive like normal and the car will determine the best way to mix the regen and friction brakes. The battery/electrical systems in these cars aren't exactly large/powerful enough to take a huge regen rate, so expecting them to rapidly slow down and come to a complete stop like a Tesla isn't realistic. Now, if you can de-program yourself from believing that all EVs need to have a one pedal option, and just drive it like any other ICE, then it should work fine. To maximize range, it's mostly about coasting as often as possible, and being soft on the brake pedal as you approach a stop. L mode helps. Tesla may offer a van... but do you think it'll be cheaper than a Y? Let's look at the price comparison between a base Y and a base Pacifica... A white model Y + 7 seat option (other paint colors cost $1k+) and no other options costs $45k and they're no longer eligible for federal credit. I found some 2021 Pacifica Hybrids going for under $32,000 before tax credits on autotrader. Now maybe you're not eligible for all of the discounts, but even if you could find one for $35,000, you'd be looking at $27,500 after full federal credit. That's $17,500 cheaper than the Y before the extra tax and interest you're paying on the Tesla... The long range model Y + 7 seat option is $53k. $25,500 more than the base Pacifica Hybrid + extra taxes and interest. Oh, and with any Tesla, you should factor in the cost of a clear wrap so rocks don't tear the paint to shreds. At least on the front end. Don't get me wrong, the Tesla is better appointed, faster, handles better, has autopilot standard and some other interesting features, and it's fully electric. It's not exactly the longest range EV, but I think 244 miles of range is more than adequate for most people, (220 miles on the highway / 180-200 miles on the highway in cold weather). Is it worth $17,500 - $25,500 more for a second household car?
2:00 - Drive mode selection and Fuel consumption - Former is right but latter is not always right. This is something that is not 100% right. I did not test it in winter but spring (sunny day with AC turned on). Distance between my home and office is 9 miles. With the battery charged I was able to run the entire 9 miles on battery. Though the gas was showing 0 miles, i would have used very little gas which is very negligible. Even on a winter day may be I would have spent a little bit more to heat the cabin but again that will be very negligible (may be 1 mile for 8 or 9 miles). This is something one should not really worry about unless you live in Dakotas or Minneapolis.
No mention of this IIRC but the hybrid supplement to the manual (and the manual) say that towing is not allowed with hybrid. So that could be one reason not to go with the hybrid. I didn't learn this until I purchased one - have not seen it mentioned in any review..
I really don't think that the lack of stow and go is a big issue. Those seats are so uncomfortable that I would 100% rather have the hybrid removable seats instead of the stowable ones. Also half the minivan segment now has non - removable second row seats. The Pacifica hybrid solution is a very good compromise between comfort for passengers and utility.
The reason your hybrid Pacifica runs on gas when the battery is full is because the vehicle knows when the gas in your tank is "old". So it runs on gas to get rid of the old gas. Word of advice: don't ever fill up your gas tank on your hybrid, unless you are going on a long road trip. Otherwise only fill up a quarter of a tank so that the gas doesn't stay in your tank for a long time. This will trigger your vehicle to run on gas even when battery is full.
I have two vehicles, 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan and Honda Clarity Plug in hybrid… I was thinking of selling both and replace them with Pacifica plug in hybrid… I don’t think it’s a good idea 🤔
I had a 2019 PHEV, it had a problem, it won't turn on below 24F temperature. I live in northeast, I could not start the van any day under 24F. dealership made multiple attempts to fix it, it turned out to be a lemon, Chrysler bought it back
@@John-209 don't worry ..CEL very common with all phevs fyi . As long as it drives normally ..usually disappears after a few restarts ..reboots..if it persists take it in to your dealer . .

Mine only has 6k miles on it, then I got the “service battery at dealer” message and it won’t start. I had it towed to the dealer, and they’ve had it for a week and can’t fix it - they said they don’t know what’s wrong? What are my options? I’m shocked - this is a 2021 50k+ vehicle with just 6k miles!! Even more frustrating - they don’t have a rental car available which is part of the warranty agreement! Someone please help!
We are strongly considering this, but the lack of AWD on the plug-in is difficult. I like the idea of being able to make short trips on electric only, but we live in the snowbelt. Sienna has AWD, but always burns some gas, and is hideous. Tough call..
Hey Tom my Pacifica hybrid lets me run on straight electric but I’m in California where the weather is moderate.I’ve only driven 10 or so miles per day since I’ve had it but it’s still on zero for miles on gas
@@John-209 Seemed about 6 months give or take - it will just go into a cycle where it runs non-stop just like a normal v6, anytime you start the car it burns gas until your next full refill then it goes back to being electric hybrid.
@@John-209 It's our second Pacifica - we had a 2017 Gasser Limited and traded it in for the 2019 Hybrid Limited - env is really important to my wife and I like the driving dynamics of the Hybrid about 40% more than the Gasser - the ZF 9sp auto in the Gasser is more refined now for 2021, but god in the 2017 it was jerky/inconsistent and just never felt great. It wasn't a nightmare like it was in the Cherokee, but it was annoying. The eCVT in the Hybrid delivers a much more linear feel. So we have about 22k miles on the 2019, we just got done with a 3k road trip PHX St Louis and it was comfortable and adaptive cruise was a dream - but no lane-centering was something I missed. If the redesign in 2023 or whatever gets that it would make me want to trade in our 2019 for it. At highway speeds (75-85) the gas mileage is meh, we averages 30mpg for the ENTIRE trip. When we are in town and driving kids everywhere, all the time, it's amazing. You just get into the habit of plugging in every night and almost everything we do is electric. That's really where the car shines and becomes a must-have (which is it's bread and butter so not much surprise there). Ultimately the question of "if your 2019 Hybrid blew up, would you go buy another one?" and my wife is a "HELL YES" and I'm a "Yes" - I'm a car guy though, so any time I'm shopping I usually want something new/different. There isn't an alternative to the Pacifica Hybrid out there though - if you want a minivan and want plug-in, it's damn near perfect. Ok all that said, reliability - it's been solid. There have been gremlins in all of our FCA vehicles and I ignored almost all of them and they either go away or don't happen that often - stupid shit like UConnect Theater hung until I restarted the car, but that happened like 4x in 2 years. Going into reverse quickly after starting the car and no reverse imagine comes up has happened maybe twice in 2 years. The icons on UConnect 4 won't keep the ordering I give them. No matter what 'default' phone I set in UConnect, it always connects to mine rather than my wifes when we are BOTH in the car. Every time you start the car the UConnect audio starts unmuted INSTEAD of in the state you last left it in... just stuff like that - you get used to it and life goes on, but nothing has broken like doors not working, tailgate not responding, etc. All that has been solid. We ran into ONE issue about 2 months ago where the car would turn on (Seemingly) but not go into gear and just flash the gear indicator and display check engine light and act like it's totally bricked and needs to be replaced... this was like a week before our road trip. Well just turned out to be a 12v that was dying and couldn't hold a steady 14.5v - it tested fine and if I jumped it, it worked fine for a few days but I KNEW I didn't want to mess with a battery "on the edge" so I walked into AutoZone and got the biggest replacement I could fine and boom, car is 100%. That was annoying that the car can't self diagnose better than "everything is broken!" when the 12v is acting up, but I've seen that in many cars so don't blame FCA specifically. I do all my own oil changes/basic maintenance and it's dead easy so I really like that aspect of it. Don't even need jacks to do an oil change. Our plan is to put about 100k on this and then see about getting another one (hopefully with better self-driving features) OR another Tesla if the range is long enough for a road trip. Getting ~500 miles on a tank is pretty awesome in the Pacifica Hybrid.
I bought the Pacifica Hybrid before a month. The hybrid system has a serious flaw. I got the Service charging system error when I charged the car in a public charging station. Before starting to charge I got a message to check external charging system but later it allowed me to charge the vehicle. But after I stopped the charging I got this error. Neitherthe vehicle was moving nor I was able to turn off the car. After 5 min of trying different things finally it worked after I tried to stop car without applying the brakes. I did not see the error after that. I am planning to take the car to the service center for diagnostic test tomorrow. Fingers crossed. But this a pretty serious issue which Chrysler needs to fix. Since the car is hybrid atleast the car should run on gas and not completely stall. Did someone face the same issue and do you know how to get it resolved?
Loved my regular Pacifica…wish I had waited for the PHEV. Great vehicle…My guess with Chrysler not letting drivers select mode is to preserve the gas…if you can drive all the time in EV mode and never switch it over, you run the risk of hurting the engine by the gas going bad. Especially if you only need it for local hauling and never go on road trips. I’m about to own the RAV4 Prime and I’ve read the user manual 3 times now…and I still don’t quite understand the different modes…(and I’m coming from owning two Teslas and currently own a Niro PHEV). The one thing on the RAV4 Prime I do understand is the big warning at the end of the section that says make sure to fill at least 5.x gallons per year to keep the gas good….most minivan drivers just want to get in and go…but I understand your gripe. My ONLY gripe with the regular Pacifica was no paddle shifters. Sounds stupid that you would want paddle shifters in a mini-van, but with a 10-speed tranny, the dynamics on the van are SO different when it’s empty on flat roads, to trying to go through hills with a full load. The tranny is clearly tuned for the former. With no way to pick your gear when the tranny is challenged, it’s a bit of a pain. Putting it into L only works to a certain speed, then it’s of no use…I think any tranny with 10 gears MUST have paddle shifters.
I'm in need of a 3rd row plug in hybrid. My driving schedule involves preschool, 38 mi RT each day. Then homeschool swim team around noon (30 mi RT), which allows for 2 hours to charge back up. Then in the evening, it's to juijitsu and Scouts (16 mi RT). Again, a good 2+ hour stretch to charge back up. I usually hit the grocery while I'm passing by on these daily run arounds. My hope was to buy a hybrid that would run entirely on electric for these small daily trips to cut my fuel consumption way down. I can't go full electric, as we also have mountain bike race team, and those races are all over the state... so full electric wouldn't serve our needs for the long distances and rural locations we need to visit for MTB races. How can I be sure that I'm getting the most out of the EV portion of the Pacifica? I don't want to get something that runs electric and gas hybrid most of the time, otherwise I'll just get a standard hybrid and FINALLY ditch the minivan (looking forward to that day). With 3 tall kids and a ton of running around, what is the best vehicle for me? It's looking like the Pacifica hybrid, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something.
where are you located? I'm in SE Michigan and surprised that the hybrid performs so much better in warmer temps. Why the hype for this hybrid if it only functions well in the warmer seasons? I'm still confused!
@@marygarlough1589 Here in 2021, February in Minnesota when outside was -20 F my Toyota Prius 2005 was returning 25 MPG. Only now in March it came back to 42 MPG. You can easily imagine what happens with a huge vehicle like Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The gasoline vehicle VW Passat increased consumption by one third at least.
At the question why somebody would buy a non hybrid Pacifica vs a hybrid version the answers are: the choice of 8 seats, AWD, stowaway second row of seats. If those options would be available with the Pacifica hybrid that vehicle would not nave any reason not to be a bestseller. Unfortunately, for marketing reasons, Chrysler hides that this vehicle is a PHEV calling it a hybrid thus another option intentionally is omitted - the ability to select the EV only mode vs hybrid one allowing only automatic-hybrid mode.
Turn off the climate control (in cold weather) to run all electric. With the heated seats and steering wheel only my wife needs the engine heat. Also, a major issue for me was the minimum internal width. Pacifica min width = 48.5" (enough for 4'x8' drywall panels) while both the Toyota and Nissan min width was 47.5" (as of 2020).
I can’t believe Chrysler would ask you why would we put an alert for the electric flap open? Although they put a little rubber gasket on the door so when it closes it seals the inlet. If it didn’t need to stay dry and clean why does the rubber gasket matter in there? That’s more important than the gas flap warning
I understand about the different modes, but you have to remember this is for families and not necessarily EV tech head early adopters. My spouse just appreciates not having anything complicated. Just puts it in drive, and the car does it’s thing.
Been driving it for 6 weeks now & am loving it! Have had gas engine kick on for a few minutes on cold mornings to condition (warm up) main battery ... so far, 500 miles and less than 1/4 tank (4 gallons) of gas.
You very likely won't find any for a year or more. The chip shortage is causing havoc with manufacturers all over the place. I bought the second-to-last one in my area a week ago, and the dealer told me they aren't planning on getting any new PacHy's of any sort for quite a while, and they don't expect the chip shortage to be fully resolved until mid-2023.
The tax savings aren't as good as they sound. Most people won't get much of a tax credit for buying the hybrid version. The credit can reduce your tax bill by up to $7,500, but most people pay a lot less than that in federal taxes. In those cases, they'll see their federal taxes reduced to zero for one year, which is still a good thing, but it likely won't make up for the price difference of the hybrid. They can save a lot in fuel over the life of the van, but it's a lot harder to sell people on long term savings when they have the option of buying the non-hybrid version for around $5,000 less.
I wont drive a phev ive been driving full electrics for a couple years but id pay anything to be back in a normal vehicle like a sedan or a minivan, I would pay ANYTHING if they made it electric only. 40k? 50k? 140k?! IDC. just give me a normal minivan or sedan THATS ELECTRIC!!!

Hi Tom - We've had our Pacifica Hybrid 2021 for 4 days now. I'm TOTALLY confused by the usage of the battery. Went on a 15 mile round trip (most expressway driving 60 mph) and it used the entire battery. The next day I drove 6 miles on flat neighborhood streets and it used 52% of the battery. None of these trips had the engine turn on - strictly battery. But this morning, the engine turned on for my entire trip to the grocery store and the temperature is the same as the previous days. Yet it also shows that I've used about an eighth of a tank of gas. I'm so confused. Might I have a faulty battery? Many thanks for your help.
Hi Mary I’ve had mine a couple of months and those numbers you are stating are crazy if you’re on the freeway under 65 you should get 32 or so miles and about the same on the city streets it does take a big hit going 75 down the highway but I think you should have your battery checked
@@John-209 I guess I'll take it to the dealership - I just can't figure it out. When the engine came on today for the very first time and never went off - battery never came on - I just couldn't believe it. What I can't figure out is when I possibly used any gas - the trip on the expressway which was a total of 15 miles couldn't have used gas if it used my entire battery. But I just know those guys at the Chrysler maintenance shop will just figure I'm crazy.

if this was able to tow 3000lbs like the gas-only version I'd already have one. Instead holding onto my 2011 Town&Country to tow our popup camper. BMW i3 for daily driving rounds out our driveway.
@@stevesfly Pretty sure there is NO towing option for hybrid...really a deal breaker for me. You could probably cobble on a tow hitch, but mfg says NO towing of anything, and would likely void warranty.
Ours keeps using fuel like crazy even with full charge. No rhyme or reason , brand new gas , city , hwy . The electric is almost rendered useless. Wife only drives 5-10 miles per day on avg but uses gas a lot
Sorry you're incorrect. We already had to replace the inlet a few years ago after forgetting to close the flap in a rainstorm and drove 30 miles with it open.
We love ours. We do about 85% of our trips on pure electric. Summer time the mpge shows as about 65mpge. Winter really takes a hit with heating that huge beast and the ICE kicks on a fair bit, and mpge drops to about 35mpge. Which is still great for a minivan!
Mpge doesn't really tell you anything useful, I wish these EVs would start showing miles per kwh, would let you tune your driving and give you useful information in efficiency
so wondering - heating up the van will use up a lot of the battery? Maybe that's why my battery goes down REALLY fast.
Learned from this review that the engine always goes on, for at least a little bit. That really disappoints me. Was hoping it had a selection button so that we could do all our local errands on pure EV mode, then charge on solar power.
@@amigajoe I find it to be VERY inconsistent - could be the temperature. If it's warmer, it starts with the battery only. Colder - the engine starts.

We weren't originally planning on a minivan, but last thing today (after a long day of car shopping), we tried a hybrid Pacifica - only Pacifica that the dealer had left. It seemed really nice, and considering the price and versatility, we're looking to buy it tomorrow.

Great review! We bought our 2021 PacHy Pinnacle nearly 4 weeks ago and so far it's working great. Our driving profile is a lot of short local trips, with a lot of idling during the week (10-15 hours). We're definitely going to be looking at a level 2 charger as well. So far Chargepoint seems to have a good model but we are new to the Plug-in vehicles and are still doing a lot of research.

I'm literally currently renting one for a family vacation - the first electric car I have ever driven . The home we are renting has a charging port that I may use so we drove here on gas from the airport and have been using electricity to get around town for free. The home owner according to the rental agent allows me to do this in the rental. Love the 2 hour charging cycle and I am impressed with vehicle overall, it's capacious, nippy and comfy with room for all - swallowed our family of 4 and 4 full sized cases with only the smaller of the rear seats folded. With the whole rear seat folded we have tons of space. Great car and nice review, but I don't think you needed to focus too much on the lack of a warning light on the electric door - it's right by the drivers door and an adult, even in a hurry, should be able to notice it!

Tom, good point about charge flap. My e-Golf does not have flap sensor. I will look for this when I buy another EV as my wife would probably forget to close flap.

Tom, great review. I suspect this vehicle sells poorly due to dealer FUD. Like you pointed out, only real downside is second row folding. Otherwise, hybrid is cheaper to buy and operate.
Faster Charging can actually be more important with a small battery then a big battery, particularly for local trips.

Great point about on board charger. I can’t believe BMW supplies a vehicle with a 24 kWh pack but does not include a 30 amp (or better) on board charger. The X5 e should have a CCS port, for that matter, as even if BMW throttled DCFC to 2C (~40 - 60 kW), X5 could hit 80% SoC in about 20 minutes.
just bought the hybrid. to answer your question: fewer consumers actually perform cost analysis, they just just look at the higher sticker price and conclude they can't afford it
Really good in depth review! I wish you would have gone more in depth about the actual EV range you got including how hard is it to accelerate and keep it in EV mode.
A little late for an answer I know but I easily get over 32 Miles if I take backroads to my destination. Hwy is probably more like 28 to 30 miles. I live in Atlanta so cold winters are not a thing I can speak on. If you live in a warm climate I think you would be happy with the range. For the gas engine to come on you really need to be flooring it. The acceleration from a stop is very good on pure EV. 70% of my miles are EV only.
@@Dryloch I have recently bought a 2021 and have found the all electric acceleration to be very adequate. Mine never goes to gas power on my normal trips.
Good review but I would mention that there is no stow and go but on the second row the seats are way bigger and more confortable than the stow n go ones and they are super easy to take out...

We got the Pinnacle trim specifically for the more comfortable second row. On long trips, like we do (3000 miles) the extra comfort will be much appreciated.

Interesting observation happened recently!
The EPA numbers drastically changed on the site from the time of video shooting: the difference between gasoline and PHEV versions in 2021 models consudering average spending on the fuel and electricity got increased from 3500 to 4500 USD calculated for 5 years usage!
With gas prices going up, the web site is showing an even greater difference now.
There is also base charging for those of us that have base access due to military service.

I know this an older video but I do have say a plug in hybrid is a no brainer for me and I actually rented this vehicle and now I will buy one and I do have a lot experience with plug in hybrid as I currently own a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime and I will be trading in for a Pacifica Limited Hybrid. I didn’t even know there was a minivan plug in hybrid, but I wasn’t a minivan fan until I rented one and seen how practical and spacious they are and I never thought I would ever like a minivan but the plug in is the best as I in the last year of owning my Toyota Prime I only filled my gas tank 4 times so the cost saving is real and it really don’t use that much electric to charge. I only have the lower trim in the Toyota and it only has a 3.3 KWh charger and I I did install a 240 volt charger to facilitate the fast charge feature as I do like the gentleman in the video I do multiple trips and just plug in every time I come home so as not to use the gasoline as much. I can’t wait to get the Pacific Plug in Hybrid.
Good luck. Just realize that Chrysler has had some growing pains and the 2021 and 2022's have been known to stall at full speed when driving. Currently under investigation for a recall. It's still a great minivan but just be prepared for some hiccups.
I'm thinking about buying one of these. I wish it had stow and go seating in second row, but I can live without it. The Pacifica's second row seats are absolutely effortless to remove compared to the seats in our Nissan NV. But, I still love the NV anyway.
The metal ring on the steering wheel is just on the top 2 trims. Limited and Pinnacle.

My heat works fine on e mode but it’s only in the 40’s as a low where I live. I wonder what temp the straight e won’t cut it anymore and gas starts sploding?
Great review! We were looking at the 2021Pacifica Hybrid and the 2021 Toyota Sienna. After looking both at and driving both it was a no brainer. The Pacifica Hybrid is better looking, better quality interior, and saves more in the long run. Was not impressed with the rear cheapness of the Sienna and horrible breaks it had. 2021 Pacifica here we come....

It’s in our garage so it does not get to cold 🥶 in there for the cord to get stiff. So easy to set up and install though. This will be our first EV anything so we are excited and nervous. I will say I went to go and buy the Toyota Sienna and walked away. So underpowered with just me driving. I could not imagine with the whole family and luggage. On a hill or passing would be a nightmare. Worst hybrid breaks I have ever pressed on a Toyota Hybrid as well. Super unpredictable and grabby. Lastly very cheap in the rear of the Sienna. You cannot remove the 2nd row seats and in the 3rd row you can literally shake the walls where the cup holders are. Such thin/cheap materials. I could not do it. Had

Like all cars, this one appears to be a mix of some really cool features, and some very frustrating omissions. The fact that this is a PHEV with a HUGE 16 kw-hr battery, that doesn't let you select EV-exclusive Mode, would be EXTREMELY frustrating to anyone who has driven a Toyota PHEV like the Prius Prime. Having a 6 kW on-board charger as standard even in the base trim is definitely a Plus, especially considering that the Rav4 Prime has only a 3 kW charger in it's base trim. Not having the 2nd row seats fold into the floor would be annoying, but at least you can remove them, unlike the Sienna seats, which can't be easily removed at all (you can unbolt the seat rails from the floor if you absolutely had to remove them, but this requires a T-50 Torx driver, and re-installing the seats later can be very difficult - lining up those 4 bolt holes in the seat rails with the holes in the floor can be a nightmare). Having the gas engine being a V-6 instead of an I-4 hurts the fuel economy, and makes the vehicle much more difficult to work on. The Pacifica PHEV doesn't offer AWD at all. Lastly, the $40,640 MSRP is going to be hard to take for a lot of potential buyers, especially considering that the Rav4 Prime starts at $38,250 and has at least 10 miles longer EV range, and AWD is standard. The Pacifica has a huge amount of cargo capacity, however, especially if the second and third row seats are removed - way more cargo volume than a Rav4. But if Toyota comes out with a Sienna Prime later this year or in 2022, with a powertrain based on the Rav4 Prime, and at a competitive price point, it will bury the Pacifica PHEV.
I wonder if you keep it out of gas if you can drive electric only as long as battery is charged.
I love the Pacifica hybrid Tom. However, the Inez issue I have is that the vehicle only charges the battery on regen and that’s not enough to charge. Wish it would charge while driving down the road like the Toyota hybrid drives do. Other than that, it’s a great vehicle.

would be nice to have 100 mile range on this, most of our short trips are 65 to 80 round trips and would amazing to not have to use fuel, then long trips would amazing as well for being able to use electric for some of the trip then back to gas i can see people being able to purchase more with better range

It's a great overall package, but the lack of a dedicated EV function is pretty much a deal breaker for me. Easily the best minivan on the market, but with Toyota pushing the Prime versions of their vehicles and they're announcing 2 new EVs and a new plug in, I bet the Sienna Prime shows it's face. I think the Sienna looks better, and a prime version would absolutely take the cake. Awesome video!

Sitting with the AC uses mostly the battery. Every once in a while the engine will run for a few minutes and then shut off again. When charging the engine never comes on so you can sit while charging and have the AC on. I don't know about heat because I Iive in Atlanta.
The most important thing to me is that it has Second row seat stow and go. Unfortunately Hybrid doesn’t have this feature;
I wish the options between Pacificas were more clear, their 4 tiers of options are super hard to compare.
I spent over a week online to decide on the TouringL. Didn't like the bridge console and didn't need giant sunroof. Lost out on cooling seats I guess.
It’s not selling more because of the dealers, last year I went to a dealer to look at one and the sales man said they don’t order any of the hybrids because there is no advantage over the regular. I told him the regular Pacifica has no real advantage over any other minivan, then I left. I will probably by the hybrid in a few months though (from another dealer).
We just purchased a 2022 hybrid touring L model. We love it so far and only have the level 1 charger. Is there any way to figure out if the level two charger would be more efficient, I know it is much faster, but does it use the electricity more efficiently to charge it?

Tom, you failed to mention the recalls. This van got me all excited when it was first announced, the big red flag was that it was made by Chrysler. In 2017, FCA/Chrysler/JEEP models filled out 7 of the 10 Least Reliable Consumer Reports list. The first 9,000 Pacifica Hybrids were recalled due to stalling out, and there have been 2 subsequent recalls through 2020, both related to the vans catching on fire. The non-hybrid Pacificas have suffered a staggering number of recalls.
I felt for the poor folks who bought these vans on the Pacifica Hybrid Facebook page, wondering for months if they'd ever see their vans again.
I seriously considered this van as the Model Y was not scheduled to be available for well over 2 years in 2018 and my wife's Prius was on it's last legs. Test driving it felt soft and wallowy even compared to the Prius and I was not about to buy anything without a plug. There is no one pedal driving and regen is set to a compromise default as a no-brainer setting for soccer moms.
One bonus is that the center row seats are far more plush and comfortable than the Stow-N-Go versions fitted in the gas Pacificas. Those are thin and brutal on adults for anything more than short hauls.
ID.Buzz has tons of flexibility, fun and utility baked into the concept, yet how many years is one expected to wait for a family van that can carry everything you can throw at it? ID.4 and Model Y are at the top of my list to replace the base Model 3 we finally ended up with.
Elon has talked about a van and it would seem a more affordable, less complex, slightly larger cargo carrying family mover than Model X would be a home run.
Soft and wallowy versus a prius and model 3? ;) Well it is a 5,000 lb van compared to smaller, lighter, shorter sedans. ;) Big vehicles to be boaty. No one pedal driving, meaning it drives like 99% of the vehicles on the road? Most of the OEMs setup their PHEVs with mixed braking on the brake pedal, so the intent is to drive like normal and the car will determine the best way to mix the regen and friction brakes. The battery/electrical systems in these cars aren't exactly large/powerful enough to take a huge regen rate, so expecting them to rapidly slow down and come to a complete stop like a Tesla isn't realistic. Now, if you can de-program yourself from believing that all EVs need to have a one pedal option, and just drive it like any other ICE, then it should work fine. To maximize range, it's mostly about coasting as often as possible, and being soft on the brake pedal as you approach a stop. L mode helps.
Tesla may offer a van... but do you think it'll be cheaper than a Y? Let's look at the price comparison between a base Y and a base Pacifica...
A white model Y + 7 seat option (other paint colors cost $1k+) and no other options costs $45k and they're no longer eligible for federal credit. I found some 2021 Pacifica Hybrids going for under $32,000 before tax credits on autotrader. Now maybe you're not eligible for all of the discounts, but even if you could find one for $35,000, you'd be looking at $27,500 after full federal credit. That's $17,500 cheaper than the Y before the extra tax and interest you're paying on the Tesla...
The long range model Y + 7 seat option is $53k. $25,500 more than the base Pacifica Hybrid + extra taxes and interest. Oh, and with any Tesla, you should factor in the cost of a clear wrap so rocks don't tear the paint to shreds. At least on the front end.
Don't get me wrong, the Tesla is better appointed, faster, handles better, has autopilot standard and some other interesting features, and it's fully electric. It's not exactly the longest range EV, but I think 244 miles of range is more than adequate for most people, (220 miles on the highway / 180-200 miles on the highway in cold weather). Is it worth $17,500 - $25,500 more for a second household car?
2:00 - Drive mode selection and Fuel consumption - Former is right but latter is not always right. This is something that is not 100% right. I did not test it in winter but spring (sunny day with AC turned on). Distance between my home and office is 9 miles. With the battery charged I was able to run the entire 9 miles on battery. Though the gas was showing 0 miles, i would have used very little gas which is very negligible. Even on a winter day may be I would have spent a little bit more to heat the cabin but again that will be very negligible (may be 1 mile for 8 or 9 miles). This is something one should not really worry about unless you live in Dakotas or Minneapolis.

No mention of this IIRC but the hybrid supplement to the manual (and the manual) say that towing is not allowed with hybrid. So that could be one reason not to go with the hybrid. I didn't learn this until I purchased one - have not seen it mentioned in any review..
The hybrid was able to tow a boat at 4400lbs so its tow at your own risk but it is capable.
I really don't think that the lack of stow and go is a big issue. Those seats are so uncomfortable that I would 100% rather have the hybrid removable seats instead of the stowable ones. Also half the minivan segment now has non - removable second row seats. The Pacifica hybrid solution is a very good compromise between comfort for passengers and utility.
Agree. I have a truck, so I don’t need to remove the seats anyway. I haul big stuff with my truck. I just need the minivan to haul family.
The reason your hybrid Pacifica runs on gas when the battery is full is because the vehicle knows when the gas in your tank is "old". So it runs on gas to get rid of the old gas. Word of advice: don't ever fill up your gas tank on your hybrid, unless you are going on a long road trip. Otherwise only fill up a quarter of a tank so that the gas doesn't stay in your tank for a long time. This will trigger your vehicle to run on gas even when battery is full.
How many miles can this van last ? How long the battery last ?

I had a 2019 PHEV, it had a problem, it won't turn on below 24F temperature. I live in northeast, I could not start the van any day under 24F. dealership made multiple attempts to fix it, it turned out to be a lemon, Chrysler bought it back

Mine only has 6k miles on it, then I got the “service battery at dealer” message and it won’t start. I had it towed to the dealer, and they’ve had it for a week and can’t fix it - they said they don’t know what’s wrong? What are my options? I’m shocked - this is a 2021 50k+ vehicle with just 6k miles!! Even more frustrating - they don’t have a rental car available which is part of the warranty agreement! Someone please help!
We are strongly considering this, but the lack of AWD on the plug-in is difficult. I like the idea of being able to make short trips on electric only, but we live in the snowbelt. Sienna has AWD, but always burns some gas, and is hideous. Tough call..
If you put winter tires on it you won't need AWD.

@@John-209 Seemed about 6 months give or take - it will just go into a cycle where it runs non-stop just like a normal v6, anytime you start the car it burns gas until your next full refill then it goes back to being electric hybrid.

@@John-209 It's our second Pacifica - we had a 2017 Gasser Limited and traded it in for the 2019 Hybrid Limited - env is really important to my wife and I like the driving dynamics of the Hybrid about 40% more than the Gasser - the ZF 9sp auto in the Gasser is more refined now for 2021, but god in the 2017 it was jerky/inconsistent and just never felt great. It wasn't a nightmare like it was in the Cherokee, but it was annoying. The eCVT in the Hybrid delivers a much more linear feel. So we have about 22k miles on the 2019, we just got done with a 3k road trip PHX St Louis and it was comfortable and adaptive cruise was a dream - but no lane-centering was something I missed. If the redesign in 2023 or whatever gets that it would make me want to trade in our 2019 for it. At highway speeds (75-85) the gas mileage is meh, we averages 30mpg for the ENTIRE trip. When we are in town and driving kids everywhere, all the time, it's amazing. You just get into the habit of plugging in every night and almost everything we do is electric. That's really where the car shines and becomes a must-have (which is it's bread and butter so not much surprise there).
Ultimately the question of "if your 2019 Hybrid blew up, would you go buy another one?" and my wife is a "HELL YES" and I'm a "Yes" - I'm a car guy though, so any time I'm shopping I usually want something new/different. There isn't an alternative to the Pacifica Hybrid out there though - if you want a minivan and want plug-in, it's damn near perfect.
Ok all that said, reliability - it's been solid. There have been gremlins in all of our FCA vehicles and I ignored almost all of them and they either go away or don't happen that often - stupid shit like UConnect Theater hung until I restarted the car, but that happened like 4x in 2 years. Going into reverse quickly after starting the car and no reverse imagine comes up has happened maybe twice in 2 years. The icons on UConnect 4 won't keep the ordering I give them. No matter what 'default' phone I set in UConnect, it always connects to mine rather than my wifes when we are BOTH in the car. Every time you start the car the UConnect audio starts unmuted INSTEAD of in the state you last left it in... just stuff like that - you get used to it and life goes on, but nothing has broken like doors not working, tailgate not responding, etc. All that has been solid.
We ran into ONE issue about 2 months ago where the car would turn on (Seemingly) but not go into gear and just flash the gear indicator and display check engine light and act like it's totally bricked and needs to be replaced... this was like a week before our road trip. Well just turned out to be a 12v that was dying and couldn't hold a steady 14.5v - it tested fine and if I jumped it, it worked fine for a few days but I KNEW I didn't want to mess with a battery "on the edge" so I walked into AutoZone and got the biggest replacement I could fine and boom, car is 100%. That was annoying that the car can't self diagnose better than "everything is broken!" when the 12v is acting up, but I've seen that in many cars so don't blame FCA specifically.
I do all my own oil changes/basic maintenance and it's dead easy so I really like that aspect of it. Don't even need jacks to do an oil change.
Our plan is to put about 100k on this and then see about getting another one (hopefully with better self-driving features) OR another Tesla if the range is long enough for a road trip. Getting ~500 miles on a tank is pretty awesome in the Pacifica Hybrid.
I bought the Pacifica Hybrid before a month. The hybrid system has a serious flaw. I got the Service charging system error when I charged the car in a public charging station. Before starting to charge I got a message to check external charging system but later it allowed me to charge the vehicle. But after I stopped the charging I got this error. Neitherthe vehicle was moving nor I was able to turn off the car. After 5 min of trying different things finally it worked after I tried to stop car without applying the brakes. I did not see the error after that. I am planning to take the car to the service center for diagnostic test tomorrow. Fingers crossed. But this a pretty serious issue which Chrysler needs to fix. Since the car is hybrid atleast the car should run on gas and not completely stall. Did someone face the same issue and do you know how to get it resolved?

Loved my regular Pacifica…wish I had waited for the PHEV. Great vehicle…My guess with Chrysler not letting drivers select mode is to preserve the gas…if you can drive all the time in EV mode and never switch it over, you run the risk of hurting the engine by the gas going bad. Especially if you only need it for local hauling and never go on road trips. I’m about to own the RAV4 Prime and I’ve read the user manual 3 times now…and I still don’t quite understand the different modes…(and I’m coming from owning two Teslas and currently own a Niro PHEV). The one thing on the RAV4 Prime I do understand is the big warning at the end of the section that says make sure to fill at least 5.x gallons per year to keep the gas good….most minivan drivers just want to get in and go…but I understand your gripe. My ONLY gripe with the regular Pacifica was no paddle shifters. Sounds stupid that you would want paddle shifters in a mini-van, but with a 10-speed tranny, the dynamics on the van are SO different when it’s empty on flat roads, to trying to go through hills with a full load. The tranny is clearly tuned for the former. With no way to pick your gear when the tranny is challenged, it’s a bit of a pain. Putting it into L only works to a certain speed, then it’s of no use…I think any tranny with 10 gears MUST have paddle shifters.

My driving schedule involves preschool, 38 mi RT each day. Then homeschool swim team around noon (30 mi RT), which allows for 2 hours to charge back up. Then in the evening, it's to juijitsu and Scouts (16 mi RT). Again, a good 2+ hour stretch to charge back up. I usually hit the grocery while I'm passing by on these daily run arounds.
My hope was to buy a hybrid that would run entirely on electric for these small daily trips to cut my fuel consumption way down. I can't go full electric, as we also have mountain bike race team, and those races are all over the state... so full electric wouldn't serve our needs for the long distances and rural locations we need to visit for MTB races.
How can I be sure that I'm getting the most out of the EV portion of the Pacifica? I don't want to get something that runs electric and gas hybrid most of the time, otherwise I'll just get a standard hybrid and FINALLY ditch the minivan (looking forward to that day). With 3 tall kids and a ton of running around, what is the best vehicle for me? It's looking like the Pacifica hybrid, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

where are you located? I'm in SE Michigan and surprised that the hybrid performs so much better in warmer temps. Why the hype for this hybrid if it only functions well in the warmer seasons? I'm still confused!
@@marygarlough1589 Here in 2021, February in Minnesota when outside was -20 F my Toyota Prius 2005 was returning 25 MPG. Only now in March it came back to 42 MPG. You can easily imagine what happens with a huge vehicle like Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The gasoline vehicle VW Passat increased consumption by one third at least.
At the question why somebody would buy a non hybrid Pacifica vs a hybrid version the answers are: the choice of 8 seats, AWD, stowaway second row of seats. If those options would be available with the Pacifica hybrid that vehicle would not nave any reason not to be a bestseller. Unfortunately, for marketing reasons, Chrysler hides that this vehicle is a PHEV calling it a hybrid thus another option intentionally is omitted - the ability to select the EV only mode vs hybrid one allowing only automatic-hybrid mode.
I wish the hybrid version came with the 8 seat option. And I also wish it had the “easy tilt” second row seating.
Turn off the climate control (in cold weather) to run all electric. With the heated seats and steering wheel only my wife needs the engine heat. Also, a major issue for me was the minimum internal width. Pacifica min width = 48.5" (enough for 4'x8' drywall panels) while both the Toyota and Nissan min width was 47.5" (as of 2020).

I can’t believe Chrysler would ask you why would we put an alert for the electric flap open? Although they put a little rubber gasket on the door so when it closes it seals the inlet. If it didn’t need to stay dry and clean why does the rubber gasket matter in there? That’s more important than the gas flap warning
I've had the charging flap pop open a couple of times going through a car wash.... #1 - gets wet inside; #2 - need to stop & check it every time
I understand about the different modes, but you have to remember this is for families and not necessarily EV tech head early adopters. My spouse just appreciates not having anything complicated. Just puts it in drive, and the car does it’s thing.
You could bury the driving mode under a menu and still have it do that

Been driving it for 6 weeks now & am loving it! Have had gas engine kick on for a few minutes on cold mornings to condition (warm up) main battery ... so far, 500 miles and less than 1/4 tank (4 gallons) of gas.
Been trying to find a hybrid limited but no luck. Plenty of turing and turing L which I don't want.
You very likely won't find any for a year or more. The chip shortage is causing havoc with manufacturers all over the place. I bought the second-to-last one in my area a week ago, and the dealer told me they aren't planning on getting any new PacHy's of any sort for quite a while, and they don't expect the chip shortage to be fully resolved until mid-2023.

The tax savings aren't as good as they sound. Most people won't get much of a tax credit for buying the hybrid version. The credit can reduce your tax bill by up to $7,500, but most people pay a lot less than that in federal taxes. In those cases, they'll see their federal taxes reduced to zero for one year, which is still a good thing, but it likely won't make up for the price difference of the hybrid. They can save a lot in fuel over the life of the van, but it's a lot harder to sell people on long term savings when they have the option of buying the non-hybrid version for around $5,000 less.

I wont drive a phev ive been driving full electrics for a couple years but id pay anything to be back in a normal vehicle like a sedan or a minivan, I would pay ANYTHING if they made it electric only. 40k? 50k? 140k?! IDC. just give me a normal minivan or sedan THATS ELECTRIC!!!

Hi Tom - We've had our Pacifica Hybrid 2021 for 4 days now. I'm TOTALLY confused by the usage of the battery. Went on a 15 mile round trip (most expressway driving 60 mph) and it used the entire battery. The next day I drove 6 miles on flat neighborhood streets and it used 52% of the battery. None of these trips had the engine turn on - strictly battery. But this morning, the engine turned on for my entire trip to the grocery store and the temperature is the same as the previous days. Yet it also shows that I've used about an eighth of a tank of gas. I'm so confused. Might I have a faulty battery? Many thanks for your help.
Hi Mary I’ve had mine a couple of months and those numbers you are stating are crazy if you’re on the freeway under 65 you should get 32 or so miles and about the same on the city streets it does take a big hit going 75 down the highway but I think you should have your battery checked

@@John-209 I guess I'll take it to the dealership - I just can't figure it out. When the engine came on today for the very first time and never went off - battery never came on - I just couldn't believe it. What I can't figure out is when I possibly used any gas - the trip on the expressway which was a total of 15 miles couldn't have used gas if it used my entire battery. But I just know those guys at the Chrysler maintenance shop will just figure I'm crazy.

if this was able to tow 3000lbs like the gas-only version I'd already have one. Instead holding onto my 2011 Town&Country to tow our popup camper. BMW i3 for daily driving rounds out our driveway.

@@stevesfly Pretty sure there is NO towing option for hybrid...really a deal breaker for me. You could probably cobble on a tow hitch, but mfg says NO towing of anything, and would likely void warranty.
Ours keeps using fuel like crazy even with full charge. No rhyme or reason , brand new gas , city , hwy . The electric is almost rendered useless. Wife only drives 5-10 miles per day on avg but uses gas a lot
Thats nonsense, the charge port input will not be effected by getting wet. It will not need replacing.
Sorry you're incorrect. We already had to replace the inlet a few years ago after forgetting to close the flap in a rainstorm and drove 30 miles with it open.
