Thank you for this recommendation of mine (and many others), it's always appreciated. This is an earlier song by 'Killing Joke', they had a more raw sound at the beginning which became a bit more polished as they went along.
Hi,thanks for the mention, the single non album version of this song is possibly more listenable to strangers to killing joke and.....it has Fred stair on the sleeve.
I'm both surprised and pleased that you liked this. I would've recommended this song but thought it'd be a bit too heavy for you. You might enjoy "Follow the leader" by this band.
For the story around the band and their music, see "The Death and Resurrection Show" documentary. Killing Joke was created in fire, the "sound of the earth vomiting." This is their defining song. It's their declaration of "we pull no punches."
Hi Guys, this album literally saved my life. When things got dark as Cynthia said then a good dose of KJ was my medicine along with other great music. The recent tragic loss of Geordie their great IRREPLACEABLE guitarist means KJ is no more. That means my youngest Son, Geordi, yes you guessed it, that's how much these guys mean to me, will never get to see them live. We all love Killing Joke. I've become friends over the last few years with Big Paul, the drummer. The original band members are brilliant individuals and came together to be something very special. My favourite tracks ie ones I can listen to all the time are Complication, Pssyche, Unspeakable and Butcher (and many more).
The vocals are a distorted Sprechstimme ...draw your own conclusions. Although most of their lyrics are in that style." Look at graffiti Scrawled on the wall You know the reason? Outside the door You got something Nasty in your mind"
I interned for Journeys manager Herbie Herbert at Nightmare Entertainment one summer & spent a few weeks on tour with Journey & my favorite track was People & Places not sung by Steve or Greg but by guitarist Neil with Greg & Steve in support. You could probably play that without incurring the wrath of YT !
This is the most intense song on the excellent Killing Joke debut. The opening track Requiem was covered by Foo Fighters & track on side 2 The Wait was covered by Metallica. Vocalist Jaz does actually " sing " usually ! Lots of angst on this tune 😠 😡
Jazz Coleman lives here in Aotearoa new zealand a few of my mates bands have recorded at his studio YORK STREET. while not in my top bands list i do really like them and haven't heard this for years
Fantastic song and a nice surprise this morning to see it being reviewed. From my favourite album of 1980 (slightest beats Closer by Joy Division- coincidentally they toured with each other in 1980). Truly great musicians in this band. Jaz Coleman, the singer is a successful classical composer, Geordie was a true innovator on thf guitar, Youth the bassist is an incredible producer and has worked with loads of famous artists and Big Paul is one of the best drummers i have seen live. By the way, check out Youth's dub albums. I would love a review of Follow the Leaders from their second album. Chris - there is no need for a guitar solo for this song! Instead you get a change of rhythm for a few bars which went on to influence Metallica.
Hahaha, the last one of the people on the list of requestors was front 242. Front 242 was a belgian electronic music band, also known oversees in the us, in the underground scene (I know they toured there in the eighties). Biggest ‘hit’ was ‘headhunter’, maybe a tip to make a video about this band :-). BTW, I grew up with Killing Joke, and I can’t imagine this song without these angry vocals
perhaps the 7" single version would of been a better choice, it's a quicker tempo and the vocal delivery is different but the real treasure is it's B side Pssyche, a real great song.
Have you tried any of their more recent work? Maybe try 'Millennium' or 'Pandemonium' from 1994's Pandemonium album, or 'Euphoria', 'I Am The Virus', 'Big Buzz' or the savage 'Delete' from their last album Pylon from 2015.
The 7 inc single had Pssyche as a b side if you two think wardance is dark give that a spin. Confirm your worst fears. As the old adverts often told us.
That was actually Richie Blackmore guest vocaling there .. 😳.. yeah THATS his singing voice 😅 I think I’d get used to putting the toilet seat down pretty rapid Col 👀 👍🏴
My Wife has been Training me for 32 years , that Loo seat Contract I think you find in the small print of the "Marriage Contract " and clearly states in sec 4 .3 That If Toilet Seat is left at any time apart to clean said moving part ! Then Wife has the full use of "Castle Doctrine " and can use any of the following weapons on the soft Dangly parts ! The Knee. Crossbow . Long Bow . Axe . Bread Knife . and my personal Fav ! @@ghichens3418 being in a couple def has it’s advantages Sir G no doubt of that , I find myself single in my 60’s and I’m thrilled about that , having had my sentence shortened a few years ago 🤣.. one of the huge benefits of being single is it’s my choice to always leave the seat up , which is handy as I’ve got poor eyesight and even worse depth perception so going for a wazz is always an adventure in literally “ hit and miss “ hydraulic ballistics 😆 👍🏴
Must admit guys, great reaction but wrong version of this, in that it's not the original(this is a remix from the 2000s?). Please try both sides of the classic 1980 single version, Wardance and Pssyche, a post-punk classic (warning, some extreme language in that one!). The cover of the single is red, with pic of Fred Astaire dancing over a battlefield. Another great early Killing Joke is Turn to red, off their 1979 Nervous system ep. Enjoy!
Eh.. 😳.. I didn’t ask for this , not one of my KJ favs if I’m honest 🤷♂️.. I think I asked for The Wait by KJ as a who did it better cos Metallica did a great cover of it too .. no harm done though as It’s still decent 👌 👍🏴
🤣.. I like KJ , but even I know there are some tracks which are overblown and downright grating for a lot of music lovers , this may be one of them for you Sir G 😅 👍🏴

I love Cynthia’s reaction to music. She always smiles and looks like she’s dancing sitting in her chair. Love the channel.

This and "Change" used to get awbody up dancing back in the Eighties.

Another great choice. Wardance was from Killing Joke's self titled debut LP in 1980. Enjoying your channel from Sydney, Australia .
Have not heard this for years! Thank you!
Legends❤ love their old stuff
Heavy , raw , early eighties post punk . A good song to thrash around a room to. Just don’t break a hip if you’re my age.😊

One of my favourite Killing Joke songs. I also love the single version, which has a totally different sound to it.
Music for pleasure? It's not music no more. This is music to march to. To a WARDANCE!😊

I like Jazz Coleman's vocal delivery
Kia Ora Cynthia and Chris
They killed the all groups with their sound and being on soundtrack like john Hugh’s movies
Only remember their song Eighties or Ajhtees as they pronounce it 😂

The single version of this is much better imo
I prefer the remix of this in the 2000s . Rip Geordie Walker
Great song and review.
