    Yes, if you have a repair area, I would apply epoxy primer or self etch primer on the bare metal, allow to flash, then apply two to three coats of 2k primer surfacer. Then block sand the primer. Once block sanded, then you can seal and paint. You can seal only the primer area if you wish before painting. If the whole panel is going to be painted, I like to seal it all. If I am blending within the panel, I will only seal the area.

    I am using a Sharpe Finex FX 3000 with a 1.3 - The gun works good and does not cost as much as many of the other guns. I think they are under 200

    The example in this video did not have any bodywork. So I did not need 2k primer surfacer. However, if I had bondo, then I would use 2k and block it out like you mentioned. Thanks for watching!

    Yes, you can use the same gun. Just clean it between base and clear. With the FX 3000 I use 26 PSI. If you have a video of the car you painted, post a video response. I'd like to see it. Keep up the good work :)

    My spray gun of choice for base/clear is the Iwata Supernova 1.3. If you are on a budget the cheaper spray gun that we've had good results with is the Sharpe Finex FX 3000 1.3 Thanks for watching!

    I ran out of room. I also have a video that talks about the different kinds of primers. Look on my video page for, what kind of primer do I use. This video talks more about the different kind of primers.

    Yes, bare steel needs to have etch primer or epoxy primer applied over it. Allow to dry 15 to 30 minutes and spray sealer or base coat. You will not need to sand it. #collisionblast

    hey what paint guns would give the vest result to spray base coat and clear coat, i just don't like to buff the clear coat on large areas anymore; to much time consuming, thanks!

    If just priming where a rust hole has been repaired on a fender, can you just seal that one spot and feather sand it out?

  • @CarAddictGarage
    @CarAddictGarage  11 років тому

    No, you spray straight on top of sealer with base coat.....if sprayed within the sealer window time. If you wait too long, you will need to lightly scuff it!

    so if I need to block out the entire car I use a surface primer. But if I'm done with blocking I can now use a primer-sealer which has a closer color to my base I'm going to put on?

    I have a question:) I was trying to paint some raw steel the other day. Sanded it with 320, and threw down some primer and it totally rejected the primer. Then my primer rejected the first color coat. Do you suggest using a self etching primer for raw steel? And what grit do you suggest I use to sand the primer? I sanded it with 1000 grit and it still wouldn't bond with the paint. Thanks for any help you can provide.

      I would think you could, but check the technical data sheet for the specific brand of products you're using to make sure.

    This young man is having his internal organs effected by the isocyanate's in the products. He is also not removing all the wax and grease remover off the panel, this is a result of poor wiping technique. Ant time some one is spraying solvents they should be using a full fresh air system.
