These four ladies were so entertaining. However, Anita Oday was one of my many favorites 😍 ❤️. Wish there were singers and entertainers like this still around. Thank goodness for UA-cam. So wonderful reminiscing.

Yes, Judy Garland was a unique and wonderful singer and performer. But I think each singer had her own different individuality and value to offer!

Kaye Stevens was also a very talented lady so individual and delighted audiences whenever she appeared.

She was considered for Funny Girl. I could see her doing that.

Who would have thought Lena could add such vocal texture and emotional depth to a song like "Being Green"? One of her best performances indeed.

Thanks for this clip of Miss Stevens. I had the pleasure of coming to know her five years before her passing. She'd never seen her spot on the Frank Sinatra TV show from 1965, seen here, as it was a live, one time airing close circuit. She was thrilled and grateful when I showed her, her entire set..all the songs she did on the show. I had a tape of her whole spot.

I remember Kay Stevens...was in a bar in SF one night in SF ('67) where a guy used to impersonate her, and she came up from the audience and sang w/him...the ultimate flattery for a star when drag queens start doing her ...lol! great video, thanks again!

Lena Horne was incredible. Saw her at the Waldorf Astoria Empire Room and she blew the roof off. Nobody like her. Purity, passion, humor and pure sex appeal. So sad our kids have no idea who she was.

I think that Anita O'Day was really miffed (and justifiably) at that production. The band completely overpowered her vocals and destroyed her classic rendition of "Sweet Georgia Brown" Great singer, great song, lousy production. What a shame.

This band plays in disrespect of the great vocalist Anita O'Day. They need to move to the allet
& let her swing by herself on stage,

I don't think that his point.
Btw, Anita O'Day loved Judy Garland.

    • @Johnnycdrums

Different venue, looks like a dinner club from the Eighties.
Not her longtime drummer, John Poole.
The band is playing a chart, not well rehearsed with the singer, and the Sound Man, ("Sound Engineer"- so-called) failed badly in one, two, or three ways.
It doesn't matter, because this is the raw Out Mix recorded from an area mic. in my opinion.
We don't know what the Monitor Mix is like, but we can only presume it's horrible, as it appears the musicians are just blaring along like they can't hear the singer, all the while hoping the Out Mix is solid and different from what they are not hearing.
The Out Mix at the main board is lousy because if the band is naturally too loud, you bring up the vocals to match the instruments.
On the other hand, this could be the case of a "Mickey Mouse" sound system, ran by a no nothing bartender, waitress, or drunk off the street.

@@Johnnycdrums and Terry Grant, Hi! After 35 years of a professional singing career, I can attest to the fact that vocalists are pretty much always at the mercy of sound systems, engineers, mixers, and just any person within reach of a volume switch! At times, these things are completely out of our own control.
So unfortunately, the singer gets an unfair, inaccurate bum rap/ bad review.

I couldn’t even listen to this - aside from her appearance on The Andy Williams Show, can anyone name a time when Judy Garland was in worse voice than she is in this Sammy Davis Jr. appearance??? I mean, gimme a break, already....

    • @dondouglass8665
      @dondouglass8665 4 роки тому

matt I remember the show, - she and Davis discussed her throat ‘problem ‘ - and the decision to go on with the show, as in “ N B l S B”. She did two or three other numbers, all in perfect pitch and signature showmanship, sometimes the vocal cracks, lyric mistakes, and even an off note now and then, - can seem to enhance a live performance. Anyway much better than the canned stuff offered by the ‘stars’ of today. (Best of luck to you and yours, may you stay well in these perilous days).

@@dondouglass8665 Yes, I know! But, it doesn't change the fact that it was one of the very few times she had no voice, at all....so, why would anyone want to post it??? It makes me crazy to hear this....I would think true fans wouldn't be publicizing this unfortunate episode when 99% of her performances were earth-shaking...
