  • Every day is not a cake walk working with a work truck nearing 40 years old. Sometimes stuff just happens and we gotta deal with what hand we are dealt. That was the way it was on the way home with the second load of red cedar logs a few weeks ago. No matter, its just a matter of inspection and repair and back on the road again !! Yes, a slight clicking showed up just as I got on the road with the load. Good thing its only a few miles away. A quick inspection found the flat spring that exerts pressure on the pad holder was working its way out of the main caliper housing. Soon after, the actual "H" shaped wedge that holds the removable portion into the locking angle of the main housing began sliding out. But that too was not much of an issue as the brakes still functioned to stop the vehicle. However once back on the road again and only a little over a mile yet to go, the manual switch on the digital brake controller was used for slowing and stopping the loaded dump trailer and truck. Back home, unloaded an in position to make the needed repair, the video starts. Quick, simple cleaning, greasing and securement of the necessary components and we are ready to haul some more stuff ! #caliper, #brakes, #diy

Oh heck yeah, I've done worse in the past. I was 150 miles out and lost the slave cylinder on the clutch. So it was backroads blacktop and small towns all the way back with no clutch. Slip in neutral and coast to a stop sign, then start it in granny low and go !! 150 miles worth. LOL

Yes Dave. I picked up a new half pint of caliper grease and totally shined up all the components with a buffing wheel. Then a total re-greasing and final assembly to put the old girl back to work. In '85 I had already been out for 10 years !!

Man, glad you were able to limp it home Mr Wendell!! I love hearing the history of the old ford!! My buddy had an 85 one ton SRW, 460 and a granny 4 spd. He had to do a front wheel bearing, and found those slide retainers loose then too!! Glad you got it back together, really enjoy seeing the ole truck out working still!! Finally! Finally I get to 44 Headquarters! Funny how in this heat you work at something, eat some dinner, perhaps work at something another hour or two, sit down to check out the latest and wake up to make the days PotOJO and tip the west! And of course the notifications that don’t come through for who knows why! Anyway, I’ve got catching up to do fer ser! Making firewood, expanding the woodshed, making extra space and wondering how I accumulated all the things in my shop takes up time. But arriving at 44 Headquarters is like going home! Anyway, I’m in the catching up department. Where does the time go? It’s like that old PA. Dutch saying, “The faster I go the behinder I get”! Ain’t so? Anyway, the old Ford has and does lots of 44 service and is still in great shape,,,,,hope we are too, eh? Shortly I’m going to be working on my friends Miata? That how you spell it? The m little two seater sports car? A 2001. My good friend Dances With Gnomes I call him has a back convertible window issue, it leaks! That’s because the glass back window separated from the canvas top and there’s a 1” opening, which creates a fine water spout inside! Well Rich-Dances With Gnomes is legally blind and no, he hasn’t driven for 8 years but loves to ride. So he had new tires and a battery and inspection so I sported about, finding it much harder to get inside and out than years back and Dances With Gnomes and DaveyJO went off to the Amish Harness shop to see if Levi could fix up the convertible top with some buggy materials and some glue. But ALAS, he saw that sewing glass and canvas together just plum weren’t gonna work, seeing how over the years in the sun and all the canvas shrunk about an inch away. So off to the Amish Walmart we traveled and in that little Mr. Bean sized sports car we seemed like we came in a flap Jack between two Ford 250 FWD king cab trucks! Lucky the drivers saw us and didn’t step on the car! After purchasing some waterproof guerrilla 4” tape, I was ready to seal this problem away,,,,,,,,,but I’m now waiting with my CuppaJO, which I’m tippin your way, in this cool of the morning, to begin the surgery on this tiny car, dwarfed by my Honda Ridgeline, both sitting in me drive even as I button these werdz! Anyway, I’ll let you know how it goes and seeing this truck fixem Tractorman44 vid, I’m greatly inspired to get out there and do some fixen meself! But first I will need to refresh me CuppaJO in order to have the strength to scrape, stretch, brush, clean and weatherproof tape the area needed no to leak when it rains. Anyway, more later! This heer is DaveyJO reporting from my holler to your holler with Squeezez Pleezez with a later description of this days/dazes events! Off I go to the JOpot to plan the steps for the most efficient and accurate way to approach the mornings project before the heat wilts my tutu! Catch Youz later fer ser! P.S. knot respond cibble four inconceivable spelinzinz!

Hot doggies DaveyJO !! Good to see you're still walking among the living just like me !! Odd that you described the exact rag top leakage the Missus has on her Mustang. Hers is leaking in the left bottom exactly in the same fashion. Good thing it stays for the most part inside the garage. Never enough time to do all the things we want or need to do is there my friend. So I just do what I can and lie about the rest. As a matter of fact, just last night I poked the button to take the garbage out and the door opener just ran the motor and the chain didn't move...so that's the first order of business for the day. Gotta look and see what happened. Hopefuly the chain jumped the sprocket or something like that. LOL. Its alway something or something else ain't it. Take care ol buddy and don't get too hot out there working so hard on the Miata !! See ya later and here I sit a sippin anna tippin in your direction this fine morning.

@@tractorman4461 Sure enough is always something and I like the lie about the rest stuff, eh? I used the waterproof gorilla tape and after washing the top, cleaning the glass and afterwards washing the car, it didn’t leak. I drove it over to Riches house, better know. As Dances With Gnomes and it was in the hoe sun. Didn’t peel or anything but you couldn’t touch it. So we’ll see how it works out. I’ll email you a few photos of Alice’s plants.
