Rob Schneider is funnier than his buddy Adam Sandler, Sandler is the most overrated comedian ever
Regardless, quite condescending & telling about Grier to pretend like he couldn't remember Rob Schneider only to reveal his anti-conservative slant. Whatever, Boomer LOL

Jim Carrey was a walking, talking cartoon character in the flesh. He was amazing back then.

He'll always be talented. He's lost something genuine to the hellyweird machine though.
@@samisshortforsamurai no he hasn't, he still good

Nobody else could’ve done Ace Ventura. It would’ve been abysmal. Jim’s unique energy made that film.
I’m glad you see Jim Carrey for who he truly is, I’m so sick and tired of ignorant people constantly only seeing him as just another “typical comedian”
When you look at a film like 'The Pest' with John Leguizamo who's also super talented, it just proves your theory so true. I think that film probably got greenlit just based on Ace Ventura's success lol.
@@nsasupporter7557 who thinks Jim Carrey is just another typical comedian? He was on top of the world after Ace Venture and Liar Liar. Hottest name in Hollywood at that time.
@@Jukeboxster alot of people think that! Yes, I know he became one of the biggest stars of all time… I’m one of his biggest fans. But there are plenty of ignorant people out there who just dismiss him as “just another typical comedian.”
Yeah people forget the script was very different from what we saw in the movie. He improvised a lot of that movie
Jim Carey made Ace Ventura into a cartoon. If anyone else had taken that role it would’ve been just a silly, straight to dvd film. Jim made a spectacle of it and that’s exactly what it needed.
What pisses me off about alot of people is how blind they actually are… they constantly dismiss Jim Carrey as this “fool” and they don’t see what he actually is which is the most amazingly talented entertainer in cinema history
Watch it in Super Slow Mo

The man had Dumb and Dumber, The Mask and Ace Ventura in the same year. 1994 is probably the best single year for an actor in cinema history.
Gene Wilder with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein in 1974 is pretty close. Also, RDJ with Iron Man and Tropic Thunder in 2008. But I agree: Jim Carey manifested destiny that year.
David is one if my favs he always keeps you laughing.
I let my 10 year old son watch it about a month ago. I can't get him to stay still for 10 minutes, but sat through the whole thing, laughing all the way. It was the same for me when I saw it, when I was little. Great memories😁
Yes, I was 7 when it first came out in 94 and my parents took me to see it. Jim Carrey became my idol from then on, I followed his career ever since
I can’t wait for my kids to watch dumb and dumber, it’s one of my feel good movies
I can't even mention Ace Ventura to my older cousin. He has ptsd from me imitating Ace for an entire year. That movie was a literal drug for many. Soooo addictive.
In Living Color is still THE BEST sketch comedy show of the last few generations. It can’t be done anymore. I showed my roommate some of the skits and he laughed so hard and just went “Omg, this is what comedy used to be like?” Yes, yes it was.
I lived ILC. I was a freshman in college when it started. But, to me, Chappelle show had by far the highest percentage of funny skits, like 75-80%. Mad tv or SNL, I'd say 15-20% funny. ILC was closer to 50% funny for me, but i was young so what did I know about funny : )
Meant loved, but lived fits too
@@AustralianOpalRocks Yaaaa, I take Chappelle Show AND Chris Rock Show over ILC as far as laughs go, but ILC was like the dirtiest most brutal skit show I've ever seen, like their Mike Tyson and Jackson skits, they kinda had their own version of Tyrone Biggums just WAY more disgusting, and this was airing on network television in Prime Time lol. Fromy my personal point of view:
The year Ace Venturea came out I was only 11 years old but my brother was 14 and my Dad was 44.
We loved In Living Color (SNL as well, early nineties SNL is the best)
Jim Carrey was consitantly the funniest part of ILC, David Alan Grier and Damon Waynes also killling it in every sketch.
As far as we knew, there were no David alan grier movies coming out or Damon Waynes movies coming out.
Jim Carrey in his own movie! We went opening night, laughed ourselves to death!
I also think you would have to be stupid to have seen that movie early and thought it had no chance.
I was a bit younger than you but not by much. My dad picked me up from school and said, “Man, we (he and my stepmother) saw this absolutely nutso crazy movie with that guy from In Living Color. You’ve gotta see it. We laughed so hard we almost had to make a trip to the hospital.”
“Who’s in it?”
“That weird dude on In Living Color. The white guy.”
I watched it when I got home and my entire household were massive Jim Carrey fans from that point forward.
Good memories, good times.
When I saw Ace emerge from the rhino’s ass I lost my shit as a kid sitting in that theater
Still one of my favorite scenes in any comedy ever. Along with the entire scene with Tommy Davidson 🙌 I miss that style of comedy movie
That was the second one. Funny scene, though. I might prefer When Nature Calls to the first one.
@@Weremoogle good to know! It’s been a while! I also remember that scene where he punches the “monopoly guy” and loads him onto his shoulder. What a time to be a kid at the movies.
@@Weremoogleyeah second one is funnier for sure
Oh yeah made me lol
Jim Carrey is probably the only guy who could've made Ace Ventura work. It's a silly premise, so they needed someone who could embrace it and go absolutely balls-to-the-wall ridiculous. And Jim is that guy. He made it his personal playground.
One of my favorite moments is when Ace is at that extravagant ball as Courtney Cox's date, and there's a string ensemble with a bass violinist playing music. Ace pulls on the violinist's bow as he walks by just to mildly disrupt his play. Jim made Ace this little agent of chaos in every situation. 😂
David Allen Grier was smart for turning down ace ventura. Jim Carey was the only one that could of pulled off that role.
I don't think I've laughed at anything more in my life then I did as a kid watching Ace Ventura over and over.
David is exactly what I was hoping he would be like outside of his roles. Legend in the game. Glad to see him smiling and laughing.
He was in maybe 3 good movies, and a show that is mostly remembered because of Jim Carrey (not to say that’s why it should’ve been remembered)

I think he’s self aware
Seems like the type
Jim Carey stumbled on a gold mine. He had a massive children's audience from In Living Color. Most comics would want to come out of the gate with an edgy comedy and then grow toward more mainstream pictures. Ace Ventura, completely capitalized on his young fans, who then proceeded to grow with Jim as he grew with each project.
he didn't "stumble" on anything, he 100% deserves all the credit, he was that good
@@lavs8696 ya stumble is the wrong word choice there but it definitely seems like one of those right place, right time Hollywood stories cause so many turned down this role supposedly, which I personally was unaware of until today. He made the most of his opportunity to say the least. Really went for it in a genuine way and the audience responded in kind
@@DaHomieRoach I see what you mean, Jim Carrey is Jim Carrey. But timing is everything. Had THAT film been 'the cable guy' his career would have been david alan griers. But David Alan Griers isn't even a comedian and I found him just as hilarious as Carrey on Living Colour. That blues musician he did and Loomis Simmons are freaking hilarious.
@@DaHomieRoach i just dont agree. ace ventura with any other actor is not even a good movie, if anything he proved with that movie that he could do anything, i think if he had any movie as his "debut" film, he would have been a hit. he was very hungry in those early days and no movie was going to be boring with him, he knew exactly what was entertaining and what wasn't and would have worked on it until it was
@@mikearchibald744 he wasn't the sole lead in the cable guy, he was not going to do a movie where he wasn't the center of attention as his debut. no one, even the studio or jim, would have done that. that has nothing to do with timing or luck, its just obvious
David's career choices have been so good, we should definitely listen to his take. 😂😂😂
He did "In The Army Now" with Pauly Shore the same year.
I see why he miscalculated the success of Ace Ventura.
Great stories. Either way, I could listen to these two talk about anything for days. Grier's voice and presence is very soothing.
As Clint Eastwood said about Jim when they were filming 1988's The Dead Pool- "Maybe we just turn the camera on and let him go". That's all you needed with Jim. The project doesn't matter. Jim is the project. No Jim no Ace Ventura.
When i saw Jim do that impression i was like can we get a movie of Jim being Clint Eastwood
This is a podcast episode I need to listen to in full, expeditiously
I saw Ace Ventura in the theater when it first came out with a bunch of chicks that were from Timmins that we met randomly downtown Ottawa. What a great night!

@@nsasupporter7557 such a hilarious movie!
DAG out here dressing like farmer John in these streets- and I'm here for it! 😂 It seemed so sweet and genuine how he said "I hope she's happy." ❤
Same. In my case I was already a HUGE Jim Carrey fan from In Living Color. Then when the movie comes out and I walk past a big poster for it, the idea of a pet detective sounded like totally desperate garbage to me. I sadly acknowledged that a potential world-class talent was probably going to be sunk by a stinker starring debut. After all, there was no shortage of really bad comedy back then. But then, months later I rented it on VHS, and basically one minute into the movie I knew it was complete gold. He even made an amazing sequel out of it. Allllllllrighty then!!!!!
David Alan Grier pretending like he doesn't know who Rob Schneider is lmfao.
nah, he knows who he is...'the conservative guy from snl'...that's who he is.
@@michaelhymson8074 he is NOW but that's not he was for most of his career. DAG was once a pretty great comedian, and like RS, he turned hyper partisan in the last 10 years. SAG is a race absolutist at this point.
I noticed that too. I was wondering how he’d feel about his, “men on film” skit today.
Rob isn't that great of a physical comedy actor, he just likes dressing in costumes Eddie Murphy like acting. The faces, the hip thrusting, the noises Jim Carrey makes don't fit Rob, tbh David Grier would've been better than Rob Schneider. Chris Farley might've been another ok choice, but nobody could do it like Jim.
David Alan Grier knows a million celebs and he’s not friends with Rob so why would you think he’d know his name off the top of his head? He didn’t know Courtney Cox’s name either. So was he pretending then too? I’ve seen him tell the story on other platforms and he doesn’t remember Rob or Courtney in those stories.
That crushed, but at that time, what ever Jim put his hands on, people were waiting to see it!
Didn't it seem like Jim Carrey could record his own farts and have a hit at that time? I agree
