This is xcom's theme, hands down. This is THE song you always remember. It's the one that no matter how many times you hear it, it sends a tingle down your spine as you meticulously prepare your troops, not knowing who, if anyone will survive. You send them off and prey this mission isn't the one the drives the final nail in your Classic/Ironman campaign's coffin.
But does it stand the test of time? 🤔
It has. It does. The only theme more awesome than this is the ones they created for X-Com 2 and the Legacy Pack for War of the Chosen.
Was Classic the highest difficulty 10 years ago? I play Brutal or Impossible only :)
XCOM 2 ready for battle is now the iconic theme people think of first.
Original Xoom Interception Theme :
Get pumped to lose those men you see before you.
lol yep! just to get my ass kicked
In my first attempt to shock one of them. I made my guy get close to it.BUT this one.THIS ONE sectoid was in overwatch -_-
I once head a squad out of two meachs and the rest was psychic and or genetically modified.
The all died within five rounds in a series of undurtunate events.
If I had a pound for every time I forgot that Sectopods automatically went into overwatch at the end of their turns in EU, I would probably have eight or nine pounds, but I wouldn't be happy about it.
I've been saying the exact same thing for over 10 year now I think.
Remember...we will be watching.
we are confident you will handle this matter with...discretion...
Good luck, Commander.
Pikachu i choose you!
XCOM doesn't need Batman. They already have the Spokesman. Vigilo Confido.
"Excellent. We look forward to seeing your progress."
never would've thought a *pilot* would have such an epic voice...
Ace combat characters: Am I a joke to you.
RIP: Big Sky. Firebrand is cool, but she's just doesn't get to the same level as Big Sky.
@@gustanabo9433 I mean...
As much as I fucking love that franchise with all my heart, the dialogue is cheesy as fuck sometimes.
You like prejudice against pilots or something?
I just learned the other day that his voice actor is one of the game devs (checked IMDb)
prepare for deployment strike one
Roger that, Big Sky.
Strike one beguin to engage hostiles
Finally decided to look this up, but looking back at the game... i feel like without this music, there may have been times where i was in the middle of a loadout and i might have said "eh maybe ill do this next time" and proceed to play another game for the time being, but instead you hear this and cant help but get excited to choose which soldiers get what, and deploy them on their mission to save humanity!
Nuff said.
agree
+Judgment12x Until you said this, I had no idea I did exactly the same thing.
Judgment12x Likewise
This theme is so immersive. Imagine the alert in your base. Soldiers running out of their quaters, taking guns, gears, and equipments while heading to the transporter. I loved it every time!
"Let's kick some alien butts!"
I will NEVER get bored of hearing this.
"If there are civillians in the area, I hope they stay clear"
ahhh the last moment when you feel badass before your squads starts missing 90+ percent shots
I don't count on 90%+ shots hitting anymore. I risk them, but I do my best to get a backup plan rolling.
@@DinnerForkTongueJust install a fair RNG mod lol
@@youraverageenclavesoldier
Nah, I just play better. Contingencies on top of contingencies.
@@DinnerForkTongue I ain't talking about increasing changes, I'm talking about fair random RNG
I hope you know XCOM's actual hit rates are rigged and different than the displayed
@@youraverageenclavesoldier
I have 800 hours in this game, of course I know.
Hearing this in 2023 after the UFO hearings
Really hits different now, doesn't it?
Good luck commander...
that fucking badass takeoff with that turbine sound with this music, is really epic
Big sky ready for takeoff
This music is one of the reason that why I love xcom
"We can destroy stone walls by a shotgun, but 95% chance to hit is still too low for us".
The sound that gives me chills evertime
Rhaimes Storm Rack, tap, bang!
Heroic, uplifting and hopeful. "They'll keep fighting and they'll win!" I'd expect nothing less from the composer who brought us the fantastic soundtrack for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
No wonder it's so awesome...
That explains SO much.
Yea Micheal McCan doesn't disappoint. they need to hire this guy to make more game music. You can hear some Deus Ex HR in Xcom music. Which kida fits since is a dystopian future theme game where soldiers have to embrace cybernetics and alien-DNA/Tech (HumanAlien) hybrids in order t defeat the
Too bad he didnt come back for mankind divied or xcom2. I wished they hirerd this guy for cod advanced warfare or any sci-fi cod game.
@@trager8933 Michael McCann did music for Mankind Divided.
I want this music played when i am preparing myself for going to Work.
It's hard for me to play this one after XCOM 2. I hadn't touched either in years before recently starting another playthrough on War of the Chosen. I was actually going to try to find the vanilla XCOM 2 equivalent of this track but I decided I'd give this one a listen again and it hit me straight in my heart. I love that game so very very much
"Dropship has arrived."
(Looking at geared-up squad of six Colonels.)
Have you ever seen...A bigger pack of badasses in your life?
Absolute. Badasses.
+NoSuperman
Colonel 1: Colonel?
Colonel 2: Colonel!
Colonel 1: Colonel?
Colonel 3: Colonels!
Colonel 2: Colonel?
Colonel 4: Colonels!
Science guy: Seriously?
+Saiyan0X Stargate reference? Nice.
+KMCA779 Aliens too.
+NoSuperman that feel when none of them earned the rank, and were all just rewarded from missions.
+NoSuperman Don't forget the incredibly powerful psionic who can crush a damn alien ship with only his mind!
I play this song as I am donning my rubber gloves...
For dishes. Not prostate exams.
Though this would fit as well for prostate exams. Prepare for deployment Strike One.
+Psionic Phazon Come in,HQ!Strike One is deployed and waiting confirmation.
I just realized that the title of the game has a lot to do you your profile pic. Good old GITS.
Sophia Laird LOL Nice comparison; didn't catch that.
+Psionic Phazon
try the XCOM 2 version, i find it suitable for anything
cobrazax Way ahead of you. The soundtrack is already on my D&D playlist. lol
I've run dozens of missions, but I gotta say, hearing this track while I kit out my crew still gets my blood pumping.
Excellent! We're confident that you'll handle this matter with.. discretion.
+Oscar Jonsson Roger that.
If by discretion you mean using blaster launchers then I'm all over it
Excellent. We're confident that you will handle with matter with... EXPLOSIVES.
The sound of saying goodbye... because you know one of the soldiers you see sitting in front of you... won't be sitting there on the way home =(
+Sino Deutsch Says you! My soldiers all survive! The ones that don't ride back are just MIA.
+Psionic Phazon stop playing on normal mode scrub
BILLYBOB JOE Classic Iron Man, bitch. Though I freely admit I haven't beaten it on Impossible.
+BILLYBOB JOE some people play for fun, not for frustration ;)
+Sino Deutsch Just means you have to make sure they go out in a blaze of glory, getting up close and personal with that berserker, yelling back in their face. Defiance in certain death, never relent!
Yeah, yeah, yeah... fire all your quotes away. My personal favourite, though, is the Council:
"Remember, we will be watching."
That one quote is much cooler than all of the Bradford's stuff altogether.
+The Freakin' Scientist My new favorite: "Welcome back.... Commander."
I prefer "Excelent! We look forward to seeing your progress."
“Close range”
Sometimes I just don't want to leave deployment screen because of this music. Hope XCOM 2 will have epic soundtrack too.
metalcollection1 Indeed matey :)
+metalcollection1 So far they do!
+metalcollection1 I come from the front lines. XCOM2's OST is no where close to XCOM1. Fucking shame.
bad4ever2001 I'm actually digging the new music. Not as good as EU, but still enjoyable. There's one really nice combat theme.
metalcollection1 Yeah, I don't know what that song is called yet, but I like it too. But again that's what I meant earlier, XCOM:EU has 5 tracks I like whereas XCOM 2 only has 1. Not a good soundtrack ensemble.
I so wish this was still the loadout music in XCOM 2. This was great.
It can be! Check the settings for XCOM2 and you can set the soundtrack to Enemy Unknown
When you're going shopping with your friends during an epidemic
Even after all this time still one of the most definitive pieces of game music ever. McCann nailed it.
Preparing for my final exams goes so well with this masterpiece
This track gives me chills every single time
best track in game!!
This music is essential for long workouts and jogs :D.
Teacher: Hello, today we have a test!!!
-Music plays-
Had this in my head this morning as I straightened my suit jacket, tugged out my shirt cuffs and put on my watch. READY TO LAUNCH oh wait I'm just taking the train to work :(
Sniper:gets a 95% hit chance
Also sniper: completely misses
"What's left, soldier? What remains? You have failed us all..."
It's a Gears quote but it applies pretty damn well after losing a whole squad.
"We look forward to seeing your progress"
We'll be in touch, Commander.
Audio is one of the strongest elemtns in this game. Epic tracks. Even after finishing the game on normal dificulty and restarting the game like 20 times on classic with ironman till i get enough skills to get to lategame i still find selecting squad a pleasure to do it. This game really has "that thing" in it. Now time for impossible with ironman.
I must agree that this song is the highlight of the game's music. It doesn't have much of a tune, but the drums definitely give it that battle-like atmosphere. Also kind of reminds me of Battlestar Galactica.
Confidence embodied!
Been blasting this in my head for the past week
Every time I heard the F1 theme, I couldn't lay my finger on what it reminded me of... Has been bugging me for years until today I realized the truth: It's this and the XCom2 squad selection themes. Such great pieces of music. Made my week!
Prepare for deployment, Strike One.
One of the reasons this game is so great to me, right here. Having battle music en site when you see an enemy really sets a mood that draws you in, no matter how many sectoids you've killed.
Love this song!! You can feel the urgency as your soldiers are gearing up for what may be their last mission, yet at the same time they know they're the only thing standing between extraterrestrials and civilians. Epic!!
Every CIA movie, every thing involving some kind of secret organization that is 'good' will always have a theme similar to this at least starting at the 0:33 mark. Usually when you're panning into the base and you can see its giant logo on the floor as random nobodies rush around or when you're panning into the control center with a bunch of randoms working at the consoles.
Perfect song for that squad selection.
Too epic.
Honestly, this is fucking incredible.
This song is just about perfect for an 'outfitting your troops' pre-game thing, I don't think I've ever heard a better theme for it. I want to play this every morning as I get up and drive to classes so I feel pumped and ready to rock.
2012: Kill the Aliens!
-
2020: PRAISE THE SNEK WAIFU!!
god damn that was the most epic mouse click of my life
The nostalgia, gonna have to play some today
Now there is no turning back. May god be with them all......
Gotta say this, this is the only inter-mission scene in any game EVER that I NEVER skipped, not even once (or maybe once otherwise I wouldn't know you could skip it). I never get bored of this.
***** YOUUUU
And yeah I agree. 10/10 would lose all my squad to this song again.
This song never gets old.
Big Sky ready to blast some tunes.
I made my troops look like stormtroopers to reflect their aim.
I've found myself listening more to this music on the squad selection screen than actually selecting my damned squad.
God DAMN this song is epic. It always gets my blood pumping before every mission. It makes me feel the sense of duty and brotherhood that my soldiers experience. Anybody else hella excited for Enemy Within??
Awesome soundtrack, I keep coming back to it..
Simply epic. You hear it and you know: Nothing can stop the troopers from XCOM!
Thin Men: Allow us to end your run early for you.
Test today. Studied for the last 48 hours. No breakfast.
BRING IT ON!
Listened to this as I got ready for a job interview yesterday. Got the job today!
90% chance to hit, 100% chance to miss target.
Strike-One, you are clear to engage...
I like the fact that the opening of this tune is like an alarm really gets the blood moving
I'm playing xcom2 with enemy within's ost just for this loadout music
Me too. Changed it as it became available. Never looked back. I hope i can select this version again when Xcom3 finally arrives.
"Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life. No man died in his service that died in vain."
Warhammer 4000
I love it when the music syncs up to my best of the best, the elite, most valuable squad take off.
Oh, hell. Who am I kidding! Bunch of rookies that I am trowing at the enemy in the vein hope they some how survive...
They should have make the credit screen rolling with this music, while script the remaining squad running towards the skyranger, killing Alien on the way, while trying to escape from the temple ship.
Finally, we can use this in XCOM 2
That's Xcom, baby.
0:32 is SICK!!!
I didn't have a computer that can play this game so I wind up buying this game on my android phone years after this game was released. I played this during a long haul flight and let me tell you, this soundtrack made this game so great and so awesome the first time I heard it. Did not sleep during that 8-hour flight as I was too busy killing aliens (and also super upset seeing my squad getting killed left and right..)
Michael McCann makes another epic score. This is what makes a great game an epic score:-)
Yep, it was awesome when Wing Commander first did dynamic music, back in the day...it's an essential part of any Epic experience in a game!!! This is such a cool score!
Very nice! Thanks for the rip and upload! :-)
This music while I am decking out my Squad ALWAYS makes me sit there before I click launch... checking and double checking... its amping you for the battle that is coming. Epic piece of sound :)
Aliens can go back home
Very cool song. Always reminds me how Skyranger takes off and base door closes in Xcom :-)
To think this man has basically invented an entire musical vibe.
"Facing Our Future".
So many bold soldiers went to battle with this music in their ears...
Still the best XCOM music in 2024… just one more turn Commander.
4 aliens disliked
Probably Floaters, they're not smart enough to know good music even if it mindfrayed them
The "mission start" button in that screen should be removed, so we can listen to this epic piece the whole time
This is my theme song.
I can't believe they didn't put this theme in Chimera Squad. Nothing makes me want to kick invader butt more!
You know its gonna be a metric shitton of dead muttons when this banger comes on
"We're in the pipe, 5x5!"
I love this track. It is quite possibly my favorite XCOM: Enemy Unknown track.
we will ride, we will fight, till the very end some of you may not make it back but i promise you this i will leave no man or woman behind.
The 1st time I killed an alien, I was like....
FUCK THAT THING !!!!!!!!!
and they all die after you send the sky ranger.
THE END ;__:
not today bro, We can do it just believe
The sort of song that plays in your head when you're preparing to go to work.
Seratuhl LMAO it played in my head at work whole time XD
Good luck, Commander!
::gets his big job break a civilian contractor for the department of defense::
::gets a bunch of boring DoD documents thrown at him full of convoluted A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S as far as the eye can see holy bejebuss::
-_-
::plays this music and continues to read...suddenly its not boring::
I am ready to lead the entire DoD! Follow me 'Murica! *_*
Fantastic!
That would be so.. damn.. cool... But instead we have the sequence where the Volunteer get's his flashes of the End of the world and goes all heroic sacrifice to save the world... I always like to imagine that one squad member he pushes out through the door banging on the door screaming his name.
The "Sh!t just got real" theme.
No, Vigilo Confido is the Sh*t Just Got Real theme
It's November 1, 2020. In two days, things are going to ADVANCED Real...
This is so good still
This song made my team look so damn badass, loved it.
This sound track stirs alot of things inside me. it gets me pumped, making me feel like i'm the last hope of humanity and at the same time, fills me with dread, knowing that there is a chance some of my men may not make it back.........is this normal? lol.
