IRST is thermal. It's passive so the enemy can't see it, but it's shorter range than radar. Usually if you get something on IRST it's a missile, or if you're lucky it's a transport fleet that just happened to bump into you

I, too, have had encounters with this song and the sevastopol. I made my own comment about it, but will copy paste it here as well because it's a damn fine story:
my entire fleet except the Sevastopol got fucking annihilated by a strike group, but the Sevastopol defeated them. I was riding an adrenaline high, and then I ran out of fuel in the desert. Another strike group found me, and I beat them too (got real lucky with a missile at the beginning of the fight hitting the bridge of one of them) and stole their fuel to make it to port. I didn't have enough money for repairs and gas, so I went with gas, but goddamn did I keep going!
I got destroyed by a third strike group at the next town where repairs were cheap enough. The wait (with a landed ship) was 65 hours for full repairs. first it was 5 missiles, I shot down 2 but 3 struck home. I was barely flying, when the strike group arrived. I took out all but one, but he landed a lucky hit and my game was over. This song is burned into my brain

The official song that conveys the emotion of “I’m going down but I’m taking everyone here with me.” When svestapol had lost all guns and escort ships from successive missile strikes, the only recourse as the strike group found me was to introduce them to the bottom of my ship and to manually acquaint their ship with the dry desert below. I may have died but I took them with me in the most brutal way possible.

i tried to do a Battle of Midway reenactment, but the garrison fleet decided to keep it historically accurate by detonating the ammo racks under the flight deck on one of my aircraft carriers with an airstrike. from that point on, it all went downhill for me.

@@Airsickword Been lucky with my intercepts so far, and managed to bomb some bigger enemy ships. Started thinking about dedicated AA-ships after a single missile made it through two countermissiles and aa fire and blew up my veteran Lightning.
This exact track is my favorite. Its mood is like all nuclear hell is let loose and the remaining fleets fight not for the win, but for the revenge and not dying first.

I was really iffy on this track when I heard it at first. The end of the prologue warmed me up to it, but finding out that it's the Strike Group theme genuinely made me go "ohhhh NOOOOO".
It is, nonetheless, pretty inspiring to hear when you finally manage to punch up and take a strike group out.
@@whatever10production I didn't manage to stand up to SG normally yet, all I manage to do is preemprive nuking and meeting survivors with Sevastopol, then catching a couple of nukes with the latter) that's probably why I have this association, getting spotted == getting killed anyway. A bit of practice should make nukeless perfection tho.
That's why it's my favorite, so much emotion in this song.

Me and some of my siblings used to go over to a neighbors house and fight with fake swords and axes. There were 5 of us in total, I was the oldest. Eventually everyone unanimously agreed to fight me, 4v1. This music perfectly embodies how I felt as I took them on. I took down one with my throwing ax, another with my sword, they just kept coming.

my entire fleet except the Sevastopol got fucking annihilated by a strike group, but the Sevastopol defeated them. I was riding an adrenaline high, and then I ran out of fuel in the desert. Another strike group found me, and I beat them too (got real lucky with a missile at the beginning of the fight hitting the bridge of one of them) and stole their fuel to make it to port. I didn't have enough money for repairs and gas, so I went with gas, but goddamn did I keep going!
I got destroyed by a third strike group at the next town where repairs were cheap enough. The wait (with a landed ship) was 65 hours for full repairs. first it was 5 missiles, I shot down 2 but 3 struck home. I was barely flying, when the strike group arrived. I took out all but one, but he landed a lucky hit and my game was over. This song is burned into my brain

@@BestKCL Specifically, there are five "strike groups" which all more or less match your fleet's assumed capabilities, and, most notably, have radar, so they'll hunt you down if they get a hint as to where you are. This music only plays when you go up against one of those fleets. (or what's left of them, if you bomb them into the ground with strike fighters, first, tbf)
