A sweet gem in central NM. Fond memory of my father and I staying here before a visit to the VLA (rip pops). It was our goto site for Astronomical Imaging. I like to collect the pinon pine sap to use as incense during Christmas back home. My favorite BLM sight in NM.
Another informative and very useful posting on Campgrounds...👍👍 I think this is the strong suit of your UA-cam channel and will set you apart from most who just do a drive through. I love this area* and hope to get down there again in the near future. *The area roughly contained between I-40 in the north by I-10 in the south and Hwy-191 to the west by I-25 to the east.
I was there many years ago before it got so dang civilized. There was another place at Pie Town back then, a meeting place for the old-timers to rendezvous at a certain time of the year and reminiscence. It's probably ruined by now too.
One of my favorite stops. I've always managed to score a spot. I like to stay there before and after camping in the Gila. Great hosts, great hike, clean, and bonus telescope pads at a few of the sites in the back.
@@TreDeuce-qw3kv Nothing goes together like stargazing and camping. Cosmic Campground between Alma and Reserve NM is another site with pads. You can see them on google maps sat view. It's set up specifically for astronomy and posts rules about no lights and such -- so not so good for general camping but perfect for watching the sky.
I think it is open year round but I would call the phone number on the sign to verify. There were water pumps, but my guess is they are shut off in winter.
👍❤ This ! However, she does not pronounce “Datil” correctly. Datil Wells has constantly been improved!! My mother grew up near here. I have visited this area for over 50 years. My grandfather homesteaded a section of land near Pie Town.

Awesome! We really liked Datil Well, too, loved the quiet and how spread out the sites were there. We'll definitely go back. thanks for watching!

Its still pretty remote and rustic, but with more CDT hikers coming thru every year, it is getting more tourism. Thanks for watching!

Camped there many years ago with my teacher friends. One isn’t with us anymore. Sweet memories.

There you go again telling the world about the hidden gems of New Mexico. 😠
You''re welcome!
Be nice if you mic-ed your partner in adventure. Can't usually hear his contributory comments.
I know, sometimes he starts talking and I am too far away. Drives me crazy. I can usually get him to repeat it to the camera, but not always.
