  • Unless you are new to the channel you know I seldom do things the easy way! Revell's Colombo Express container ship kit is no exception. Those perfectly maxed out stacks of containers annoyed me so...

    I'm working on this model. I have assembled the hull, accommodation block and containers. Primed all the parts and will paint the hull and superstructure where the contained sit. Nice model.

    Certainly looks more realistic than completely uniform stacks. Great work Dan 👍🏻🇦🇺

    Dan, you're a scratchin' man! I just absolutely dig you're scratch building techniques and skills! Really cool bud, keep on keeping on 🤘!

      Thanks, as my oldest daughter says, can't you just build it the way it comes! Thanks for watching!

    Wow! Thats a complex work you did on the container bits. I would never think of a way to do that😅. Also, it looks very very good! If i buy this kit (see my comment on pt. 1), I'm pretty sure I won't do that what you did with the containers 😆. Way to complex for me. Also I'm not sure if I do, or do not like the fact that the containers are fully stacked on the original. But if I get to choose, I'll keep it like it is. I have to go now so I can't finish my comment. I'll do that later...
    Edit: I'm back now and I went to a store to get a cutting mat and masking tape. I still have to place an order for the kit, though. But I'm already excited for it. That was all, ive got nothing more to say now. Have a nice day, Dan!

      If as you've said before this is your first build keep it simple so you don't get discouraged. I have over 40 years of modeling experience and sometimes bite off more than I can chew!

    Nice. This is going to look cool once the colors start going on.
    I may have mentioned in an earlier video, I bought this kit several years ago when it was initially released and at that time you could buy aftermarket resin container stacks, decals and a photoetch detail set......not sure they are available anymore and likely way over-priced now if you could find them anyways

      Yes, that would have been handy, but as you said expensive. Thanks for watching.

    That stair car series was the first thing of yours I watched! That's what got me hooked. I use a razor saw to cut styrene. Just a fine handsaw.
    This build up method looks like it's working pretty good! Like the idea of using the end pieces from the kit for the details!
    You know,I bet they don't even up the stacks as they unload them, because I'm pretty sure they go on board in an order,and they have a, schematic?, for the load out.
    By God,thats looks pretty damn cool!

      Thanks. And I'm glad you enjoyed the stair car build. It never got much in the way of views.

    I was able to find a detail set on ebay that includes some photoetch 40' containers but more importantly a sheet of decals with other additional shipping company logos in 1/700 scale

    Wow look at this! It's all set up to make the container load out simple and convenient!!!
    Enters,Dan.... "Let's introduce tediousness and inconveniences!!!!!"
    I swear Dan ,with your striving for realism and asthetics,you can be your own worse enemy!!
    I'm gonna have to watch the rest later! Crap interwebs today!!!

    Could you have glued the ones you cut off back on?

    • @dansmodelworx
      @dansmodelworx  2 роки тому

      I would have liked to have done that but one layer of each stack only yields two container sides and a bunch of doors and ends. That's why I initially was going to go with resin copies. To be honest I wasn't too thrilled with the quality of the containers that gluing the bits together gave. It's more work but I'm happier with these results. Thanks for watching!

    Revell should have done this to begin with, would realistic load of containers make the kit much more expensive so they went the easy route? Anyway, it'll look much better the way you modified it. 👍

    • @dansmodelworx
      @dansmodelworx  2 роки тому +2

      I figure if they had molded maybe 3/4 of the stacks one layer lower, one extra sprue with a selection of single, double and triple containers would have done the trick. Oh well almost every kit has at least one feature we wish they did differently! Thanks for watching.

      @@dansmodelworx Yeah, that would be an optimal solution, but they "know" what is the best. What can you do?
      Scratchbuild!

    Maybe you can 3D print the containers?

    • @dansmodelworx
      @dansmodelworx  Рік тому +1

      Yes, but I lack a 3D printer. If I had the money for one I have a couple of dozen things that more urgently require said funds. But I would love to have one!
