    We started with Magic lantern/nerve wrecking 'hacks' on Canon photo cameras, and now we can basically be cinematographers thanks to Blackmagic. Never forget the long journey

    Regarding Pyxis audio, please post a correction because there is absolutely a 3.5mm stereo input on the back of the camera! (directly above the headphone jack) It’s obviously not a balanced input, but the way a lot of operators are working these days with Rode and DJI wireless mics for on the fly interviews and the like, the 3.5mm will be sufficient for a lot of use cases. My one big request to BM with this is to have the ability in the camera OS to control and monitor the stereo inputs as well as the XLR as a *third* channel while recording. I suppose like the Pockets I will be stuck choosing between sources and forced into 2 channels, but I think it’s time for the firmware to offer 3 or better yet 4 channel recording. After all even the Lumix S5 cameras can provide 4 channel recording using the add-on interface.

    I believe Blackmagic did a mistake by calling the new Cameras Ursa Cine 12k and 17k… because a lot of filmmakers will only look at the 12k or 17k and will think “I don’t need that much pixels”… completely passing over the fact that you can still use the whole Full Frame censor in 8k or even 4k. If they would have called it Ursa Cine and Ursa Cine Pro or something like Ursa Cine 35 and Ursa Cine 65, people wouldn’t make a fixation on the 12k and 17k specs, and instead look at everything else those two cameras can do, their censors, storage, frame rate, Dynamic Range, etc…

    My apologies if this was cleared up later as I couldn't watch the whole thing, but I'd like to point out that, according to BM's product page and imagery, there is a 3.5mm mic jack on the back above the headphone jack. I've heard a few other say there isn't and when I heard him say it I thought I was going crazy!
    Thank you all for the coverage on these products. The PYXIS looks awesome, mostly because it is a huge step in a direction I've been hoping BM takes for their budget ballers in the cinema space.

      It shoots in BRAW, the same codec as their other cameras from the past 5+ years. So yes. it's 12 bit LOG that is read as 16 bit linear in Davinci Resolve.

    Is there any run stop capability for the PYXIS 6?

    • @waveland
      @waveland Місяць тому +1

      The new EVF has a run/stop button on the top, so I think it’s likely we will see a variety of run/stop options on the market over the next 12 months which will interface with the USB-C port, but I do not believe there’s any dedicated run/stop input. As with the Pockets you would have to rely on Bluetooth until other options become available. Nevertheless, having that PD/DisplayPort connector on the camera will make for some flexible and lightweight monitoring options going forward. I’m looking forward to seeing what 3rd parties develop.

      True. I wish that is something that can be updated via firmware.
      But with these two new cameras you can at least offload via Ethernet

    Lenses not being able to resolve any amount of K’s is a myth.
    Glass is glass-if it’s clear, clean, unobstructed, and light can pass through it, it will resolve 100K.
    That’s a made-up UA-camr specification.

    I kinda wish the interviewer would not answer the questions for blackmagic so quickly. Let's hear it out of the horses mouth, that you brought on to interact with us first, then you can add your own thoughts and recommendations after he has spoken fully. I started asking myself why the blackmagic person is here if the interviewer is answering most of the questions people are asking for blackmagic, what's the point? Felt like you were stepping in to save the day on some tough questions. Let them save themselves. Your position is and should be neutral, at first at least, while the question is posed. Loved the show but just my honest feedback for these interviews
