Caught in a Sticky Situation in Myanmar 🇲🇲

- Опубліковано 21 лис 2024
- It was the next day here in Myanmar during tense times and we began a road trip to the west of the country, 6 hours to the beach town of Ngwesaung! However with the situation in Myanmar being so unpredictable at the moment foreigners were not allowed to take the public bus therefore we had to take a private taxi. We were expecting a lot of military checkpoints along the way....
Will the journey be worth it? Let's find out 🇲🇲

Fcknhell… you’re releasing more content than Netflix at the moment!
Keep em coming soldier 👌
Ben's a true Hustler, filming, editing, posting and repeating that process non stop whilst traveling non stop! Massive respect from a rookie 👌
Hence my twisted spine 🫡

Does Ben do that ? Or is he home in the UK posting ?
@@Redstripe921 he's on tour
@@BackpackerBen My family have been subbed to you from the begging Ben, Kat is a sweetheart and awesome travel/camera woman addition. Between You, Bald & Harold you 3 are the no music excessive editing like many other annoying channels. We love the background noise, interactions with locals. Yes your 3 channels are top tier, well done. Hey Kat camera work is looking great.
Believe it or not, your money exchange quandary was actually quite interesting content. This is the type of insight most travel vloggers don't show us. We are very interested in the daily things you have to go through rather than a lot of the scenic content.
380,000MMK is actually 117usd.

more than one SEA country expect pristine notes to exchange - so store them well!
In the USA, none of our money looks great! The smaller the denomination, the worse it looks.
Ben, this was a great video! So many vloggers don't show this type of content, but this is what your viewers need to see, especially those who travel like me. I was pulling for you and Kat to get what you needed, and I'm glad you did! Kat is an awesome girl, who doesn't seem to get flustered easily. Great stuff!
Hey Ben
I am from Yangon, Myanmar.I watched most of your videos.
If you face any difficulties or problem or language barrier while you are in Myanmar, please reach out.
Happy to assist and Enjoy ur time in our lovely country though currently it is not the best time.
I visited Myanmar a few years ago as a tourist ... It's a beautiful country with wonderful, welcoming people.
Long-live, peace and prosperity to Myanmar people! ☮ ☮ ☮
May peace prevailed in Myanmar! ☮
💯 wright! It's now my top number 1 wish country to visit.
No doubt, Myanmar is a beautiful wonderful country and Myanmar people are awesome. I too hope Myanmar manages to sort things out. I wish they could have peace. ☮
I also feel for the refugees and innocent civilians displaced by war. In my humble opinion, refugees and displaced civilians fleeing or caught up in the civil war in Myanmar should be able to relocate and resettle over to the vast resourceful Australia & New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region.
In fact, around 90% of Australia/New Zealand are completely empty.
Besides, the vast majority of the population in Australia/New Zealand, tens of millions of Europeans were from all over Europe brought in over to the Asia-Pacific region.. [For honest truths about Myanmar, pls read the informative multi-page comments by 'Ms. Gregoria' at, "Myanmar remains in social and economic crisis since military seized power/BBC News": ua-cam.com/video/70ZnQZEBVuU/v-deo.html ., ]. Colonialism and Colonization are evil things done by evildoers.
For instance, here in Singapore, a tiny island with 6 million souls lives like sardines in a can, elsewhere in nearby vast bountiful Australia which is ten thousand times 10,000 bigger with a mere 27 million inhabitants.
A similar situation in tiny and packed Japan, which is running out of space and land. Do you know that their living room and bedroom are the same place, and that most Japanese people sleep in their living room?
Moreover, there's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian in Burma up until Anglo British Colonialism. I suppose it's fair to say that many of these tragedies that the nation is facing today, such as racial, ethnic and religious conflicts, started with Colonialism.
Here's my suggestion. Why not Myanmar's Muslim, Hindu and Christian population, if they wish, move to a place like Anglo Colonized vast bountiful Australia/New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific region? After all, these are Asia-Pacific lands looted from Native Asians-Pacific people.
For centuries, in vast bountiful North & South America, the motherland of Native American people, where the vast majority of the population, hundreds of millions of Europeans were from all over and every corner of Northern & Southern Europe brought in over to occupy the Native American lands.

Any time I have met Estonians they have always been brilliant people
You are making such good memories Ben and Kat! Lovely!
Always a pleasure watching your travels Ben
👊🏼
Thank you for making so many videos 👑👑👑
So what's the deal with only accepting pristine dollars? Surely a dollar is a dollar is a dollar.
Love your videos Ben please continue to put a smile on our faces.
Keep up with the good work Benjamin. Channel doing well
Amazing contrast going from being able from using a phone app to pay to not being able to exchange a 20 dollar bill.
1:13 the legend with a double fist bump
I moved to Thailand 25 years ago from Boulder, Colorado, U.S.A. It's nice to see the amiable people in Burma who are not conflicted by the Military government. The country's nature looks beautiful.
Ben you're smashing it with these uploads mate. Loving the Kat dynamic with you too.
👊🏼
Ben as a 3+ year sub, I'm happy to see you adventuring with lots of views. The channel is stronger than ever..!! Also, I'm happy to see the people of Myanmar being so friendly, and in an odd way, Kat tired and sleepy. She's so precious.
Legend 👊🏼
Thanks to India 😂
iron your dollar bills between 2 wet towels 👍🏻
Travelling in a Lexus LS400. What a beauty of a car.
Not to mention comfortable, like sitting in a comfy sofa
@TehRealVR , my son had a LS400 , didn't keep it too long, it liked a drink 😂
Honestly looks more like the S150 Toyota Crown
Well actually its a Toyota Crown 🤓
And yes. It’s a beautiful, luxurious and comfy car.
yeah i think it is a toyota crown, great car
You did WHAT to the check point guard?!
That check point guard must have had a good experience with Ben that day 😂😂
Thank You Ben & Kat Safe Travels🙂💙👍
😮 this one was little scary, kudos have a great trip 🙏🏽💞🏕️🥰 best yet to come!
Can't wait to watch this...first China ,now Myanmar...Ben and Katarina...legends!
welcome to Myanmar Ben, have a nice trip....
I’m glad you set the record straight with the “ cheeky you know what “ Ben 😂😂 great video , enjoyed buddy 😎🙌
Had to make that very clear
😂👍
Surprised he didn't think to go back, do it again and demand some local currency for his efforts 🤣
Being the only tourist for miles is a world traveler's dream.
Hahaha, I can relate 💯 to that. As a black man traveling through South East Asia, I sometimes feel like a celebrity when locals are often eager to snap pictures with me. Other times, I feel like an alien that dropped from outer space when they won’t stop staring at me😊
Got to hand it to you both . Myanmar has it's challenges. This was a well done video , having to deal with currency issues would have sent us home. You guys were real troopers.
Question for you ? With the few foreigners visiting, in general how were you treated by the ruling military ? All the best 👍👍 Jim and Harriet
You need to get back support belt Ben..it corrects your posture
Pretty sure Kat was trying to explain those green things were the pods from pea pods, just without the peas 🫛😂
oh that's the word, thanks!
I get that you two are just friends, but you look like a beautiful couple. Thanks for the videos!
Content quality is getting much better! Nice one
Great video. Getting better all the time. Much rather watch you and Kat dealing with real problems on an adventure than you dying in some hell hole. 👍
Great video, Benjamin! I was staying in Ngwe Saung Beach 10 years ago. Back then any decent hotel anywhere in Myanmar would happily exchange money, and yes, your banknotes need to be in pristine condition. Hope your itinerary includes Kyaik Htee Yoe Pagoda (Kyaiktiyo Pagoda) in the Mon State (totally surreal experience), Bagan and Lake Inle.
They won't take old notes in Cuba either. Pristine notes only
It's always a good feeling to find a beautiful resort that isn't overrun with people! Awesome content as always.
You are back here again... I first found out your channel from the video that you visited Hsi Paw ..
You guys were great under pressure. You could tell the souvenir lady was hesitant on exchanging the money, so you were nice enough to stop the transaction even though it would have saved you guys. And her reaction at 22:58 was too cute 😂😂
Glad everything worked out in the end!
Great story! Loved the nail biter near the end with a happy ending
This country is so interesting! You two are amazing and I love your vids.
Biggest treasure from these trips are Kat, you two should be together.
they are
It certainly seems that they are together

Great to see fellow Estonians saving the channel !
I never watch vloggers for food reviews but I think the food looks good Ben!
Military checkpoints? Tense times? Ben casually risking it all for content like a true UA-camr. 🏆😂

Second that. But in Boston or Maine.
Great vlogs, fantastic work. Kat is so sweet! Carry on travelling!😊
The ceremony was going to the monasteries where the young lads were becoming monks, novices, or whatever. It's a must thing for buddhism to become monks once in their life, like a blessing.
Big thanks to the 🇪🇪s. Glad everything worked out for you two.
Just a tip, for any creased money just put a tea towel over it and iron out the creases. Love the content. I appreciate all the hard work you and Catarina put into making such great video's.
Appreciate it 🫡 but the dollars were from 2009 era so nobody accepts them
@@BackpackerBen Thanks for letting me know. So glad you and Catarina bumped into the Estonions and where able to get some money exchanged with them.
Kat seems so chill. Good soldier
Really good one , thanks Ben 😊
Unbelievable how friendly the people are! What a difference to India,
Appreciate all the risks health/safety you guys take to entertain us..Keep posting love you both and stay safe 😘 🏴
So bloody good to see Ben and Kat have a much deserved chill. You and Bald are the best travel vloggers around
I started out watching Bald which is entertaining but from someone living in Thailand 20 years and consider myself traveller BB is more , Bald wants to give you a history lesson, plus BB content is manageable at about 30 minutes
Ben out doing cheeky business on the roadside.
Living a nice life Ben - enjoy it !!
If I remember you two had a few episodes with blasting music last year! 😂
Seems like it is a Deja vu!
Wow. A Toyota Crown (1:05). Very nice.
Just wanted to say thank you for doing these videos
0:01 Kate is like oh no not filming again 😂
Amazing Ben.. Did you feel safe?
The elephants are not built to carry stuff on their back. My brother visitied a place where they look after retired elephants with destroyed backs. 😕@4:30
However: Thanks for the video, and showing it like it is, Ben!
Kat is a Diamond❤
I LOVE HER SO MUCH. what a woman.
Another great video.
Can't believe you gave that border guard a cheeky hand job m8 !
under the table yano
Does Katarina have a UA-cam channel? Ben, I hope she travels with you always. Katarina is a massive ray of sunshine!❤❤
There should be a whole channel dedicated to Ben’s mispronunciation of words, from people trying to explain things in English to him and him trying to pronounce foreign words. Absolutely hilarious, love it!
Good video again 🤟🍻🇫🇮
So happy to see Kat back!
Hello i'm from Indonesia 🇮🇩🇮🇩
I couldnt help but laugh at the fact Ben flagged a guy down on a scooter holding a "violin", then hitched a ride whilst holding it 🤣 thats hilarious and you cant make that shit up!
Wow. What a fiasco! Thanks for sharing and the learning experience!
Beautiful Beautiful Kat
I know this kind of situation back when I've been traveling to Thailand. Credit Card didn't work any more, so I was running out of money. In the end I tried to sell a lens and had to walk to the international airport in Bangkok.
same same had luck at the end 10k saved my last days
That “violin” bit was truly a Karl Pilkington moment lmao. Cheers mate
🫠
i just watched the first myanmar ep one min ago, and then surprisingly found that another ep is out lol
oh!!! i didn't expect this stop!! thanks for all the video updates!! thoroughly enjoying them!! THANK YOU for shedding light on myanmar, wonderful people! i'm not sure the elephant usage can be considered "MEGA cruel" .. what about horses and oxen and even dogs for dog sledding? i mean it's another mammal and it's all up to the humans treating them well or not; as long as they're not overloaded.. and these people are buddhist so they can care deeply for their animals.. i know that from talking to a farmer with water buffalo, they are prized and treated well, of course a wild elephant would be ideal but this is nothing new to use animals for work oh and.just curious, how much is the taxi? sorry if it says in the video, just started :)d
Great video 📸 with just you and kat
I love the new trastion you do of smacking the camera on kats forehead 😂, keep up the great vids ben
😎🙏🏼
Same thing in Estonia, you only must have brand new 100-dollar bills to exchange to their Estonian rubles lol 😂 😂
That's super dangerous man.. That civil war there is no joke.
it is sometimes ignorance is bliss no way i would travel around there
Love following your travels
This was on the edge of your seat viewing - that secret ATM fail!
Man like Ben, always splitting a meal for one 😂 I kno he makes Cat pay for her own looool jk
22:59 The expression on Katya's face 🤣
You gave the military checkpoint man a "you know what under the table" ... Thats depraved man!!!😂😂😂
Looks so nice. J'ai adore Birmanie apres ce film ;)
'a cheeky you know what under the table'...the army guy would of been wondering why he was getting a wristy from the English guy when he was just expecting a little tea money haha
16:30 Regarding currency exchanges: it is exactly the same in Thailand. If one is traveling to this part of the world, have like new currency to exchange.
If Ben could have dampened the $100 bill and take a hot iron and flatten it out real good it would probably pass for new.
Would love to know why they only accept pristine notes, and a perfectly fine note with a little crease is not accepted
Myanmar economy has hit rock bottom cuz of the current situation. Same thing when I went to Lebanon, all old dollars are worthless
the bank wont accept it
Myanmar is paradise on earth... if you an escapee from Sing Sing!!!!
.
Myanmar, the oldest Buddhist country of world. The real land of smile! Its like Thailand decades ago.
My number 1 country i wish to visit.
You say all this yet you’ve never been 😂
It´s pretty much the same in Cambodia. No one will take your dollar bills if they´re not absolutely new and spotless.
