I listened to these jams on (literal) repeat when I was a kid, so here's a medley of themes from "Super Mario Bros.", "Super Mario Bros. 2," and "Super Mario World," all by old school Nintendo composer Koji Kondo. Did the subconscious effects of hearing these songs during my formative years lead to my appreciation of ragtime piano? I don't know but it's possible!

Ragtime is the sound of all that is pure and wholesome in this world.
I think it's the only thing in life guaranteed to make me grin like a child watching a magician. I don't think I could be angry and listening to rag at the same time, I'd have to just stop the music, finish being angry, then unpause.
Helps that it was Nintendo games that made me love genres like ragtime, boogie woogie and blues piano in the first place.

Ragtime was the music the piano player at any American brothel (and every American brothel had it's own piano and player, almost always a black man) played to let potential customers know the girls were all on their periods so should be passed over, thus the name 'ragtime'.
Ragtime is where everything began. Very wholesome and pure. Stride made everything ragtime awesome. 123bounce 45 ... or 17656 or 15652565, bounces.
Jeez. There are hundreds of covers of MARIO melodies out there but this is on a different level. Beautifully done!

Koji Kondo loves ragtime and a lot of the original compositions, especially for super mario world were directly inspired by ragtime music!

That was bloody FANTASTIC!!! This musical style suited the melodies perfectly! It's like the music was ~meant~ to be played this way.
Gets to Super Mario World... It's already a ragtime song (The Athlete's Rag, to be specific). I guess we'll have to make it more ragtime.

More like the 1900’s, Ragtime was a style of music most popular between the late 1890s and 1910s, by the 1920s it was Jazz music
Jeremy Xu swing music was in the 30’s. Jazz age was in the 20’s
GamingSquishy yea but you get the idea. I’m just not used to the idea of a song like the Charleston being called “Jazz” but hey that’s just me lol, I associate the word jazz with smooth jazz
In the 1920's New Orleans Jazz was the popular style actually.

Yes! I really think that song is made for a PMJ rendition, including the original singer Kate Davis.
Another band did a dixieland remix of the athletic theme from SMW2, and I can clearly hear the family resemblance from ragtime to dixieland.
