In general, mimic spiders like this one position their front legs like antennas for further deception.

The footage blows my mind. I can't even take a single photo that looks this good, but they can film an entire ant battle scene, including dramatic cliff murder? Damn!

It's all about the camera quality you possess.
The ant that fell probably didn't die. Ants are so tiny they have very little mass, so their terminal velocity is extremely low. They can fall from a plane and hit the ground with so little force they won't even be injured.
Meanwhile, the spider's probably sitting on another tree, whilst eating a bucket of ant grubs.
All the while he is calling on bets on who wil win with his fellow males and discussing about how hypocritical the females are "she wants me but then she eats me!"
While some of them on the ground are amazed on lunch raining on top of them
This has a disturbing lack of Muffets and dancing spiders.

All warrior and worker ants are female. The males, called drones, stay in the nest until mating season, at which point they fly from the nest in search of a new queen ant. Drones then die. The mandibles, mouthparts of ants, are so small on males that they cannot even feed themselves, and thus die of thirst after mating.
Only orchestration and a British accented Attenborough can make a backyard infestation look like LotR.
That spider is basically Sam sneaking into the Black Gate to 'steal' a coccooned Frodo.

War is the greatest driver of adaptation and evolution.
I once witnessed an ant colony raid an earwig colony. It was amazing. The earwigs could cut the ants in half with their pincers, but they were greatly outnumbered. There were around three ants attacking each earwig. While all the earwigs were distracted more ants went into their home, and took all their babies as food, carrying them away into their own colony. After lots of earwigs died, the line broke and the surviving earwigs fled the area, abandoning their home and colony.

I was mowing my lawn once while an ant colony was on the move across the street. I knocked over a wooden post with the lawnmower and it had been hollowed out and was filled with termites. I looked at the termites, then looked at the ants, then grabbed the post and started shaking the termites out into the ants. Long story short, the ants won.

One may notice that defenders are generally positioned on the right of each shot, while attackers are shown on the left. Genius Camerawork at play. Also, I can't help but be fascinated by the way the defenders shooting acid place themselves in groups in elevated positions, like artillery batteries. Either that's some random event, or there's relatively sophisticated battle coordination going on here. I rather fancy the latter.

This wasn’t shot in nature but a room with fake plants. They write the story based on random events. These new films are more like a movie than a documentary.
Ants are actually very intelligent. The cracked this kind of coordination and management thousands of years before we did.

I mean, most predators that go to fight in a Ant Colony aren't aware that ants would wipe the floor with them. Now that spider seemed like it did understand that and if it was spotted, would run.
a spiders life revolves around tricking lesser insects into becoming an easy meal, its their life. i guess brain size doesn't matter when it comes to these instincts and other functions you see from insects in these videos

We need an ant colony themed RTS game, from this video alone you have some of the basics for one:
- caterpillars = resource farms
- grub nursery = barracks for spawning units
- regular ants = close combat units
- acid squirting ants = ranged units
And there are plenty of other things not covered in this video that could be worked in

You basically just described Empires of the Undergrowth. It’s like $20 on Steam.
Everything you mentioned exists in EotU, from resource farms (aphids), to barracks (nursery tiles), and 6 playable species of ants each with their own unique traits and abilities. One of the species, Formica rufa, has two types of soldiers, a melee soldier and a ranged soldier that sprays acid. And the game is still in development so more content is being released.

More impressive is how in the world do these people manage to films these tiny insects. And they capture them from all kinda of angles too. More impressive they don't lose sight. All being done without disrupting the tiny insects. outstanding!

How is it possible that the weaver ants cannot tell the jumping spider from their own colony, but can easily tell the difference between their own colony and a neighbouring colony of the same species? Is the jumping spider more efficient at mimicking the pheromones of the particular colony?
