It honestly makes me uncomfortable that ants are capable of defeating the slug's defences. 99% of the world's predators wouldn't ever come up with a solution. But ants with brains the size of a grain of sand can. There's something unsettling but very fascinating about that.
Evolution is like that. A mutation shoves a new idea or a new response to stimuli into them, and if it's advantageous, their strain spreads. Ants always seem to have a 'solution' for things in their environment because they have been in the same environments for tens of thousands of generations, with as many opportunities to randomly find those solutions embedded in their instincts each time they reproduce. Take them out of their native environment, and their 'problem solving' vanishes utterly.
I swear, document films about animals always has the narrator speaking as if this animal is goign to make it, and then wham hits you with a plot twist.

They have a huge brain but they aren't as smart as humans, because they have a bigger body, so they need more Brain Mass to keep their functions working.
