  • This shows me working out how to fit the insulation around a flush window for my external wall insulation (with no previous experience).
It was a very simple DIY job and much easier than fitting it around a recessed window (which you can see in a previous video).
Previous videos also show how I learnt how to prepare the walls, decide what to buy, fit the starter track, prime the walls, cut the boards to shape, stick the the boards to the wall with adhesive, screw in pin fixings, render the boards and fit the verge trim.
The rendering was the most difficult step but still perfectly possible for me to do with no previous experience.
The next videos will show how I get on with more rendering and insulating below the damp course. I’ll also work out how to coat the render with a thin silicone finish and make videos of all these future steps.

Great work, thanks for sharing. Quick question please. Are your walls solid or cavity, and if cavity are there any considerations? Many Thanks

Thanks a lot Matt. These are solid walls. For cavity walls, normally people blow foam or other insulation into the cavity. I’m not sure they usually insulate on the outside of these as well. But I can’t see why it wouldn’t work.

that pink board does not look like EPS. If it is not , it is not DIY but rookie's mistake, boys, do not repeat it on your houses

The boards are not EPS, they’re Kingspan K5. Kingspan K5 is designed to be used as external wall insulation. It’s quite a lot more expensive than EPS but more insulative so 70mm of this is similar to 100mm of EPS. You do have to be a bit more careful when installing than when using EPS as it’s more rigid and so you need to be very careful to make sure there are no gaps between boards. But if you do that, it seems to work very well and gives good insulation for a lower thickness
