Sand it. Spray on some cheap white single paint to keep it from rusting underneath. Put on trim. Done. Great job by the way. You saved it from the crusher.
Don't worry about what anyone says about the color or the mail box hood scoop. Do what you want. You are having fun and sharing it with people at a time when everyone needs something positive. Keep up the good work. Be you.
Not bad for a guy who claims he doesn't do body work. Coats look pretty smooth and even. The custom headlight design looks flush and natural. All in all great job man. Making it work!
@@Iamthathillbilly It feels like it some days, although, the climate is changing - I remember in the mid 1980s us having a three week spell in November where the temperature didn't go above -33 C! We just don't get long cold snaps like that any more.
The car looks great in white. I love the gasser look. That's how we built them in the 70's. Like you said. It's easy enough for the next owner to change the stance of the car if they want. Keep up the good work.
Great to see a real guy doing real work warts and all like the rest of us would do. This will help me when I bring my 57 home and start on it. Keep up the great work.
Well Dan, when I was in high school back in the late 70's, my very first car was a 56 Chevy 210 and it was also painted white so to see this car you just painted up brings back some very old, very fond memories of my first car. Well done sir! Keep up the good work
One of the few things that stands out in my mind from auto body class 30 years ago is, "chase the wet edge". Primer that will be sanded is not as finicky, but paint is. I always paint bottom to top and chase the wet edge around the car as best as possible. Spray the roof half way, go around to the other side and bring it back toward you, same for good, etc.

No Garage, No money, No tools, No car. I love watching ya bringing tri fives alive.
I remember seeing something with Gene Winfield and he said just keep going until you like it 👍 he also said there are times where he painted some cars 5 sometimes 6 times before he was happy with it
My brother you did a great job on the Chevy I know body work sucks but at the end when you know you did the whole car yourself including the body work it's very rewarding you took me back when I did my 69 Firebird it's a whole lot of work but I will do it all over again keep up the great job if I was you I will paint it a single stage White and put the same Wheels you have on the front on all four she will look bad ass thumbs up
Dan , you have made a huge improvement in a short time , car looks really good. Keep at it till its a running drivable car . A good winter project. Another Tri 5 rescued
Yes,best get Dannie to donate any old stockings or pantyhose,I cut foot end off all my wife's and keep in a painting filter bag on painting bench or these days a paper filter similar to a coffee filter is readily available?
Straining primer? Really? I mean it's high build primer...you sand most of it off anyway. I can find way more things to do with my time than straining primer. :P
And very useful. They can be wound around to act as air scoops on hot days. My wife hit a really high note one day, though, when a bee ventured in through the one on her side.
It don't matter how big or organized a garage workshop is. It only matters who's in it working. Good job, I bet if it was more orderly you won't be able to find anything.
Sweet to see it coming together lovein the vids. Cant wait till I come to pickup the 57 and bring it to Ontario lol keep up the good work nice to see these old girls coming back to life.
For what you started with .. it came out real nice. I started working in body business in the 80s. Don’t let the haters get you down. Nice job! Keep up the good work
I’m new to your channel and let me tell you its really refreshing to see garage built stuff ,its exactly how we have always built our cars. After watching so many hi-buck tv shows really was a bummer. Youve restored my excitement to get back out there and build my things my way and not worry about what the experts do it . keep it up it helps rev up the spirt to us old guys , peace!
That’s beautiful man the Chevy looks great in white with the chrome and the trim is going to look good enough for me congrats body keep up the good work i like watching your car restoration like I say in español felicidades amigo

Sand it. Spray on some cheap white single paint to keep it from rusting underneath. Put on trim. Done. Great job by the way. You saved it from the crusher.
Always do the roof first. Practice makes for a good job. Nice work.
I was thinking the same thing on the roof...

Glad to see you found a different color than flat black! Looks really good Dan. Gasserish look is great too.
Bringing Lazarus back from the dead great job.
I love the Napoleon Dynamite sigh when she said there was nothing for dinner. And Dani's laugh is awesome!

White with the trim will look awesome 👌
You brought the Ol Girl back to life man!!!!! That,s what matters the most! Look at what it was a few months ago! Great job man!
Looks great Dan. The white was a good choice. That scoop though. I hope you're trolling us.
I dunno ... it's kinda growing on me. Then again, I'm also from Manitoba and may have frost-bitten my brain at some point.
@@guywerry6614 “frost bitten brain” 🤣 you think that actually happens? 😳 that would explain some things 😁
I love the scoop ill take if he don't use it its thinking outside the box im going to do one now

vroom vroom. like she said. The looks you get from that white 56. Nothing but smiles
It's always gratifying when you can stand back and see all your hard work come together. 😀👍 good job Dan.
Nice - love the white! You totally have to paint the interior and the door jams guy!

Very nice! It does look good in white.
The white is out-a-sight!! The trim will finish the 56 off quite nicely, too!!
Reading this comment I hear the dude from Cheech and Chong that gets the band uniforms...
Fantastic job on the light brows !! Looks great
Dang right its getting done, and it looks great.....minus the mailbox.
Agreed, lose the mail box and put the mags back on the front...JMHO

Looks great Dan ! Really like the white ! Thank you for sharing your journey with us !! Be safe my friend and God bless you and yours !!!! Eddy
looks really good in white !
I Love It!!! Don't worry so much about what others say. It's YOUR project. Great Video.
Definitely worth an honorable mention, Danielle's car noises are fantastic!👍😅 She has a great laugh as well. Much love from North Carolina.
My mom recovered and painted airplanes back in the day. She always wet down the hangar floor before painting. You done good !😀

A friend in our car club had a white 396 4 speed car 56 , looked great that color .
Looking like they did in the day!!! I grew up when they ran around looking like your Ole hot rod . Keep them on the road my friend. Love your channel
Looks so much better. The white primer makes a big difference. Beautiful !!
Much improved. Looks great from here.
Looks great..what a difference...thank you for making me top fan on Facebook out of all your members..I am flattered..

When you filled paint gun w/out straining primer I started to cry, NOOOO!

@@dansimmons1964 I strain everything, but would use a 1.6 to shoot it.
How much are you going to sell the car for?
Body supply stores give you free strainers and stir sticks if you ask nice.
Totally agree on keeping the wing windows. They look nice vs. going with a one piece replacement.
And very useful. They can be wound around to act as air scoops on hot days. My wife hit a really high note one day, though, when a bee ventured in through the one on her side.
Looks good, although I am not yet warmed up to the mailbox! Let's hear it run!
Whites looks better than I thought it would looking great can't wait to see her running down the road keep up the awesome work
That white looks wicked with the black wheels!!!!!
I love the gasser look, and love the white. It will look awesome with the trim.
Really dig the gasser look,... Steel wheels, not so much, but adhere to no one, it's your car, do as you wish. Congrats, almost to 57K!!!
It just dawned on me you have given a new meaning to the words of GOING POSTAL. 🤣🤣🤣
Great name for the car!
It don't matter how big or organized a garage workshop is. It only matters who's in it working. Good job, I bet if it was more orderly you won't be able to find anything.
Not the ER Dan! I Already Did That For Us Last Wednesday Night! FUN TIME!! Then Got Admitted-I'm Home Now!!
The white looks great !!The car looks 1000% better ,and I think the chrome would be great!!
Shoulda two toned the primer. White roof, quarters, and spear with red oxide body woulda look sick. Nice job, dan. It looks great
Sweet to see it coming together lovein the vids. Cant wait till I come to pickup the 57 and bring it to Ontario lol keep up the good work nice to see these old girls coming back to life.
Yep you always wet the floor down first, standard spray shop procedure, looks great, much
more presentable.
Love the white primer
Looks so much better now you should name it and put the name on the Mailbox
been using transtar for years great stuff, had sealer on a hood for two years no rust.
It's a major milestone to have it primed and "closed in". Villain's voice, at the end: "Now, me proud beauty, I've got you where I want you..."
I dig it, looks awesome. You are right that you get it done. I would have been tempted to do the jambs and interior also.
Looks good in white. Poor Dani getting trapped in the car WAS pretty funny though. Thanks again for sharing your Garage Time with us.
Looking great all the same color
Love the "Gasser" look.
Reminds me of high school, back in the day, 1963.
That's the perfect color for the car. I think a metal flake dark blue roof would be even better!
The white looks amazing, I think those wheels with the white letters is awesome. Wish I had more money I'd pay full price.
