I'm looking forward to using it as my utility box when going to an LGS or tournament where I'm only using a deck or two so I'm not tempted to bring all my decks with me to places where you have to worry about thieves.
Not a bad idea! Do you have something else for your mat or do you just not use a mat?

Thank you! At this point, it is no longer available - it may be in the future. You can EBay it or buy it second hand. Though most second hand offerings are charging a big mark up. Or the Gamegenic Card Lair 400+ is a similar design, just much much longer.
I personally use my Academic for storing a deck that uses outer sleeves. None of the other deckboxes i own will actually fit the deck, so the academic turned out to be the perfect option for that. It's a bit unwieldy, but i think its also fun as a bit of an "event" to bring out at the store. The 266+ is also great for being a single stop box for a few decks if i dont want to bring all my deckboxes to the store that night, but the unwieldiness gets a bit ridiculous with the 266+

I really like the academic.
My lgs sells Sidewinder type deck boxes that I use to keep my decks in.
My academic holds all the essentials for play in the top compartment, and then the two drawers is where I keep a non related game or two (to play with my opponent if they beat me or I beat them before time is called). In the main compartment, I place the whatever deck box ive decided to take to locals that evening.
Like you said, I am that person who brings their deck box in one hand and playmat in the other.

Mine still hasn't even shipped. Spent almost $400 on 3 133+ and a single 266+ with extras plus shipping and taxes. The fact that I'm in the very end stages of shipment has definitely been annoying...

I keep an Academic 133 setup for prereleases with sleeves and sleeved lands because I’m a total tryhard like that. I also have a 266 which I use as my Commander night thing, but I also don’t usually bring more than like 2 decks, since I rarely have the energy to play more than 1 game. I think if I wanted to bring more than that, I’d either revert to bags and separate deck boxes or get an alternate box.
A very fair point about realistically only needing a couple decks.
My plan for it is to use it for my 3-4 pet decks as an easy grab and go option for commander night or to load up freshly upgraded decks for cons like commandfest or scgcon. Just as a means of convenience and to consolidate storage.
You will never get me to replace an 800 card bcw with folded over cards as dividers.
I got 2 academics and they hold my edh decks just fine. I like them and they are really high quality. That card lair looks cool too, I might have to get me one of them as well
I got two of them but not for commander. 1 is for carrying everything for limited and the other is for my pioneer deck and all the added stuff so I no longer have to carry multiple deck boxes for my 1v1 decks.

Interesting. I assume double sleeved at least. Do you find you have a lot of empty space?
@@AbsoluteCardboard It is double sleeved and yeah there is extra room but with the sizemorph, it's not noticeable.

I want to see if I can hold everything I need for a 1v1 sealed/winston draft game in a 133 card box, and everything I need for a 4-8 player draft in a 266 card box. Alternatively, building an evenly matched duel deck set for the 133. Mine just arrived this morning so, I'll try to remember to update to tell you how it works out.
Relatedly, I have a Cubamajigs set for my Jumpstart 2020 packs which I kept together and sleeved. I'm big into the boardgameification of MTG but I don't have the investment time and energy to curate and maintain a custom cube.
After seeing the Academic in person, looking at it and feeling it, i gotta say that it kinda feels a bit unnecessary. The quality is nice and i like the color options for it. But it is not suitable for a lot of EDH players. The compartments are a bit awkward due to there being too many of them. For a deck box this large I wish it could hold at least two double sleeved EDH decks. This particular product feels a bit pretentious at times with all it's little "features", even though visually it looks nice and is good quality. If you wanna go all out on deck boxes, might as well get the Academic, but there are so many other better and cost effective options to choose from, imo. This feels more like a special brand product release than anything I would actually recommend for players.
Well.... It is a pretty deck box... however, I think It is not for me... Normaly, I Go to a local game store with me friend after work but I already carry a Lot of weight... I prefer a lighter deck box such as the bolder
