Coming from an experienced wasteland chef, deathclaw might not be the best choice because it’s a lizard. Very tough and gamely flavor. Also dangerous. Mole rat is delicious once you get past the fact you’re rating a giant hairless rodent, but you haven’t lived until you’ve eaten a Brahmin burger. Imagine a real cow but juicer and tastier meat. Pair it with some tato, some cheese, and some sauce and you’re talking. I’ve never been big into seafood so I can’t speak for the mirelurks and the anglers but I’ve heard angler is very fishy and that mirelurks are better than any normal crab. Eating a cat is something I’ll never forget, not because I’m scarred by the experience, but it was a strange situation nonetheless. Radstag meat is fine but forgettable, just like my normal deer. Yao Guai meat is inedible. Don’t eat bugs. They’re hell on your digestive system. I’ve never had iguana bits. Everything else just tastes like it’s normal world counterparts. Pork and beans is bean with bacon, cram is spam, you get the idea. Pair it with a nice Nuka cola or an Enclave purified water and you can thrive in the wasteland.

I WAS WAITING FOR THAT SOY SAUCE!
My wife is Filipina, he's cooking adobo. I fell in love with adobo pretty much immediately. Soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves, sugar, SPECIFICALLY pork belly is the best! You can make adobo of different meats, but I find pork belly to be the best and so does my wife. Specifically that's, if I'm not mistaken, Tagalog style adobo. Cebuano style adobo (where my wife is from, Cebu, in Visaya or Vasaya) is a bit different and involves deep frying but I digress. She's done a GREAT job at improving her Cebuano style adobo, but I still prefer this Tagalog style. HIGHLY recommend this recipe, she also uses oyster sauce which might be that 'Hoisin' stuff. The difference is, we don't use ginger (though I imagine that might be common in the Philippines), star anise (we ain't that fancy), lemongrass, cardamoms (I don't even know what that is, maybe my wife does), cinnamon, cayenne (good idea though, my wife and I like some spice, perhaps next time we make adobo we'll toss in a bit of cayenne), or peppercorn (though we do typically sprinkle in some black pepper). Bay leaves are always used, as is garlic. Did he include chopped onion? Can't remember, but we always chop up onion and cook it with the meat, which we let cook in the broth itself rather than boiling it beforehand. As the meat cooks, the broth thickens, and I find it DELICIOUS on rice.
Look, I'm a simple White man, eating plain white rice ain't happenin'. My wife can have the stuff for breakfast, and I mean PLAIN, not a drop of soy sauce or anything. Makes no sense to me. I need something on it or in it if I'm gonna eat rice. That tagalog adobo sauce... delicious. Makes rice seem like actual food, which I joke to my wife that rice isn't even actual food. Somehow she isn't a fan of pizza or burgers... yeah I don't understand it either. Anyhow, HIGHLY suggest people try out adobo. I never really thought about the Philippines, and never tried Filipino food, until I met my wife. Been trying more and more of their cuisine, almost married for a year now, and I must say I tend to very much enjoy their food. Asian cuisine tends to be dominated by Chinese and Japanese cuisine with a sprinkling of Korean, that's been my experience. If you catch this UA-cam comment, highly suggest checking for a local Filipino restaurant or to try making this Deathclaw meal. Make no mistake, its foundation is Filipino adobo, and it fucking rocks. Cheers and God bless!
    Edit:
Wait, BAKE IT?! This is so over-complicated... it's boiled in the pan. Simple as. Don't boil the meat beforehand and don't bake it. Just cook the raw meat in the pan with the broth.
    Edit2:
Oh yeah, almost forgot, my wife tends to prefer pork bouillon rather than chicken. If pork isn't available, then beef bouillon, but chicken seems like a fine substitute though really you could just use salt instead just like we use black pepper instead of those whole peppercorn things which I find to just be a pain. I call them 'pepperbombs' because if you accidentally bite into one, boom, taste of pepper just ends up dominating your mouth. Overly fancy, overly complicated, ground black pepper is better.

the braised deathclaw steak was somewhat similar when cooking adobo (a dish here in the philippines). The difference were use of spices like lemon grass, cinnamon, cayenne, and cardamon. Also we used the broth from the pork itself not chicken broth

(oh hey MisoHungrie if you really reading this, make the buffout a bit bigger and don't make it super flat because it can cook faster and be brown. I use a normal cookie scoop and lightly flatten it and follow instructions and the cookies came out green)
This is my opinion of the cookbook please don't be rude as I explain my opinion.
This cookbook is fantastic not only I love fallout but this book is so much fun to read especially the scribble text and "replacements" of meats and vegetables. It even mention some stuff not only in the game but it tells you the stats on what can bring up your special.
The food on some of the recipes are pretty good. The instamash is amazing since it's mashpotatoes but a hint of fresh Rosemary and blue cheese and the radstag curry udon is really good. Some recipes even MisoHungrie said is a miss like the buffout recipes, you get a tiny hint of Matcha and a hint of allspice. While the blamco Mac and cheese is a bit watery even by looking at the recipe picture it looks watery.
Theirs nothing more for me to say about this cookbook, to me it's one of a kind and a excellent cookbook plus a fun one to cook and to read
    I give it 9/10

While the recipes look great, I really hoped more of them would be taken from the game since the Fallout world has so many canon dishes, and not just a bunch of real world dishes with Fallout references thrown on. While I appreciate the recipes that are of foods in the game like Blamco mac and cheese, as well as spins on in game foods like the Nuka Cola BBQ sauce or Tato soup, things like the vegetarian meatloaf being crossed out and replaced with baked bloatfly just felt a bit disappointing. I was also confused by the prevalence of Asian dishes that are kind of jarring when paired with the 50s Americana aesthetic of the Fallout universe.
Though overall it's still a fun book to have part of my collection!

    • @MisoHungrie

Most important thing for me: The Nuka-Cola syrup is best (personally) mixed into another soda, not tonic/soda water. My favourite mix is the syrup (a couple tablespoons) into some Diet Dr. Thunder.
I couldn't get the Mississippi Pie to firm up, I just had liquid. Made good ice cream topping, though. Do you think it could be an altitude issue? I live around 7000 feet.
I've also tried the Gecko Kebabs and Cornbread Muffins. Absolutely could (and did) demolish a whole recipe of those in one sitting (multiple times).
The Buffout is also good, but once it gets a day or so old, it gets very crumbly (friends have said they're good tea cookies, which is amusing since they're matcha.) My Buffout comes out mostly green like theirs (I suspect theirs is underdone, as mine gets a little brown/tan on the bottom. Additionally, I think I mix my ingredients in a different way... not sure if that would really affect anything, though.)
Disclaimer: I don't like tea, but I love the matcha cookies, so if that's anyone else's hang-up, you might actually be okay. :)
