That mean in bone recipe was pretty wild. I never would have expected an entire hard-boiled egg was stuck in the middle like the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop. It's really cool that they incorporated the food from the manga and the food photos were really good.
I like how this explains how Luffy is still healthy. Chicken is a good diet food, and eggs are very nutritious. Along with carbs to help brain function, although Luffy doesn’t have much of that.

I also like the explaination that people can cutomize the sasoning and eeperiment and add things easy. Which is actually really good for a book that wants people getting interested in cooking.

I recently fell down the One Piece rabbit hole to the extent that I made a dinner inspired by one of my favorite duos: Salmon onigiri (after Zoro's favorite attack move and presumably snack) with miso eggplant (after Zeff's hilarious nickname for Sanji). So fun to know this exists, and that I could expand on the idea!
what I like about some of the recipes is, that for a seasoned cook, there is a lot of inspiration from the simple recipes that can be improved and tweaked. Loved the meat on the bone idea they look epic and can totally tweak this to be hugely better.
You're forgetting that the author is a human being, ofc he would reference irl reliable food on his work, not unless he's willing to make something from scratch and risk getting a disgusting or not appetizing outcome. It's almost always reliable to reference something that has a solid foundation and work around on it.
Putting an egg inside the drumstick was a really creative way to make it look more like the real deal 😅 Unfortunately I'm not the biggest fan of eggs, especially hardboiled ones, but I might make an exception for this

You know, when I was younger I tried season my dishes with seasalt. It was a real hassle to get the clearest water near Teneriffa but since my vacation lastet for one more week I could evaporate the water with a makeshift aluminium foil sun grill. Sanji did not exaggerate how good clean sea salt really is.
"Son of a judge" made me laugh more than I should. And the tips at the end are pretty good, for what I get its a good start especially for cocking to people you are not that familiar with, but can be made to have more kick to it by getting heavier in the seasoning
I think they give you some nice room to play with different flavors that would suit your personal taste like you said that marinating the chicken would boost a step up in flavor and adding double everything in the fried rice I think that's the room they give you to personalize the recipes loved the video great stuff man sanji is my favorite character on the show.

The meat on the bone recipe really reminds me of a lot of high class medieval European cuisine. They loved stuffing eggs into meat, meats into other meats, and forming foods into interesting shapes or to look like other kinds of food. All that's missing is a seasoning of a bunch of seemingly random spices and a ton of cinnamon.
It really does! It’s just that classic poly-savory flavor that dominated high class cooking of the time! Its already got honey, but adding some nutmeg, clove, & cinnamon (maybe some powdered ginger too if you Really wanted to show off for some guests) and it would feel like it came straight out of a medieval cookbook!

Agreed, most recipes we see in One Piece made by Sanji are very simple and often its just fruits, meat on a bone, seafood, whatever they found on islands or the sea, stews, soups, pasta, ect. We get to see him go all out only when he is on land with access to a ton of ingredients.

A scotch egg drumstick, gotta admit that's something out of left field. The fried rice is simple but it would've been awesome if they added some of the ingredients seen in the anime, but beggars can't be choosers. The fish dish definitely looks the best.

When i was younger, the idea of "aging" the rice probably crossed my mind 2 or 3 times. I used to think the Chinese chefs somehow masterfully cooked the freshly steamed rice. Now i see the "aging" is more common than i realize, lol.
I love this review. You clearly like the source material. The actual book is descent, but as you point out: Those are basic recipices with basic seasoning; so your approach of: Try it and adapt: That is the magic of cooking :-) So, the recipies being allmost over simplified is a theme so that anyone can adapt it. Seeing differences between manga and anime leans into the theme.
This makes me want to at least try to make these myself. Also, "Double the ingredients" means the spices, not the rice. You don't need more rice (or more egg really) when doing up fried rice (and maybe add a bit of garlic to it, as it compliments scallions/green onions well)
For me, I would prefer a recipe from a cookbook to be under-seasoned than over becase I know to add more for next time instead of less and just have to guess how much less.
The artwork taking so much space is actually a selling point for me! I think you make a great point though. This isn't a normal cookbook, based on size alone. I found this interesting!
This book is for amatuer who loves to cook for themselves. Its affordable, simple, and collectibles too. It fits for me, i love to cook a bit but only simple dishes, loves to collect OP stuff and a fan of Sanji 😂
This is incredibly insightful! I’ve struggled with cooking myself, and was looking for a way to introduce myself to it that would be simple and effective! Sanji happens to be my favorite character of all time, so of course I couldn’t miss this! At first glance I wasn’t sure what to think, difficult or not difficult? For the drumsticks, I think they'd be way better if you made half-boiled soy marinated eggs like they used in ramen, and put them in fridge-cold so they don't cook the yolk much more. That would keep them moist and add a punch of flavor.
As someone who grew up working kitchens and spending half my days at high school learning to cook Sanji is such an awesome character to see in One Piece. I love pretty much everything about his character. The cigarettes(chefs/cooks know, lol), not using his hands in fights, his passion for food and feeding those who are in need. It all comes together perfectly and he feels very genuine. Also, the Barates arc was awesome and I loved the interactions between chefs, one of my favorites.
I bought the cookbook for my boyfriend a year ago and just now gifted him it, but I’m the cook in the relationship so I wanted to see how these recipes would work out. Thank you for this video ❤
I get that they made the recipes simple so that any fan could make it, but I kind of wish they make one where they consult with world class chefs to make dishes with the same tools that sanji would theoretically have. I wouldn't mind tougher recipes for more canonically accurate tasting foods. Sanji is supposed to be an incredible cook after all. Or maybe everyone in the One Piece world has a bland taste pallette 🤷🏾♂️
If I remember correctly, Sanji is French. I think European palettes are different from Asians (I remember due to saliva excreation or something like that) hence Asians use stronger flavor when it comes to dishes compared to Europeans. (I find Western cuisine bland.)

Well, at it's most basic it's rice and you fry it. Some people get really peculiar about getting specific recipes perfectly right (looking at you, Uncle Roger) but really, you can just treat it as a method of using left-over rice in a tasty way.
I only made the Fried Rice for Gin. I agree, very mildly flavored. Next time, I would add garlic and some seafood to match the anime. Thanks for the review!!

Oda is genius!. He create a pirates life story but also think this all recipes from their chef that you can cook at your home, named it and also what detail ingredients.
I completely agree with what you said about the white pepper. I only discovered it a few years ago when i started learning more recipes but i find i vastly prefer it to black pepper. It has the warmth of pepper but it doesn't have the sharpness you get with black pepper. it's much more mild and I've found I much prefer that

This was one good review, love it so much. And yes every person had their own refine taste, so i prefer to enhance the quality of the recipe so it will better suit 'for myself'.
The meat in a bone is pretty challenging to make, at least for the first time, but it's worth it. I'd kill for these! I also made Blackbeard's cherry pie, which I also enjoyed (I don't even like cherry). And the pumpkin juice, which was a total flop. If anyone knows how to make sweet foods from pumpkin, advise, please. It's also really odd that that's the only drink in the book.

@@marcopohl4875 1. when I use pumpkin for a desert, it's usually pureed or a puree from the start 2. Dark brown sugar often works best with pumpkin 3. If you use spices, prioritize cinnamon, then nutmeg (This is more personal, I like cinnamon)
I made the croquettes and the egg and crab sandwiches last week. Croquettes were good but I plan to season the potatoes more next time (I seasoned the meat pretty well though). Egg and crab sandwiches just needed a little salt. I had seasoned it with Old Bay seasoning though so that had it tasting pretty good. Would make both again.

With all the art, I feel like I’m reading a comic. Your food looks amazing 😋. The ingredients seem easy to find, except the marlin. I’ve mostly had bland fried rice. If the flavour of the wok isn’t in it, it’s very dull 😂. First I’ve heard of adding corned beef to it. Doubling the seasoning sounds good. I love white pepper with soups and cabbage. Nice to have new uses for it.
I honestly love that they decided to make something like a Sanji cook book. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with, is that they called Zoro "Zolo", that name was given to him in the first couple arcs of the English translation of the manga (Now changed to Zoro if I'm not mistaken) and the 4Kidz Dub
For some reason, all I can imagine is that Sanji made most of those delicious foods in the pictures JUST for his crew and anyone else who just wanted something to eat. Like the pictures is absolutely what I imagine a real life version to produce so I can't wait for the live action because Sanjis character is going to pull the heartstrings just as much in the anime and manga . Love all my one piece family. I hope to adventure and meet you all one day 👒
I was expecting the 1st recipe to contain atleast some seafood since the anime does show octopus, squid and prawn.. Probably taste like Nasi Goreng Seafood which are very famous in South Thailand area
I’ve made the drumsticks before multiple times. You definitely need to marinate the meet and I also replaced the egg with cheese. When in the oven the cheese may leak out a bit but it’s really good!
i'll have to get it for the artwork alone, i am a huge One Piece fan, on my 2nd watch as i wait for the dub to finish playing catch up with the series. i totally am most interested in eating Meat on the Bone and Sanji's Fried Rice, as those are two dishes that stand out in the franchise.
I would very much like that at the end of One piece Sanji publishes a recipe book and it becomes something like the most important cookbook in this universe being used by the navy, the revolutionaries and the pirates and even the celestial dragons. It's probably an exaggeration, but if Sanji doesn't excel in strength, he should be reputed for his non-physical skills like cooking.
I have no shame in admitting that Sanji inspired me to cook in a more efficient manner. He’s resourceful and doesn’t let anything go to waste

Considering these recipes have to appeal to children, as well as adults, I can definitely understand why they'd go for more mild flavours.
I'd say it makes sense cause i doubt that on the sea they'd have wild flavours, beiing limited mainly to seafood

Agreed, most recipes we see in One Piece made by Sanji are very simple and often its just fruits, meat on a bone, seafood, whatever they found on islands or the sea, stews, soups, pasta, ect. We get to see him go all out only when he is on land with access to a ton of ingredients.

This means Oda put a lot of thought in every single details of One Piece world building that otherwise people usually ignore. Truly, One Piece, one of the best fantasy pirates world if not the best

A scotch egg drumstick, gotta admit that's something out of left field. The fried rice is simple but it would've been awesome if they added some of the ingredients seen in the anime, but beggars can't be choosers. The fish dish definitely looks the best.

That's the thing about recipes. They can always be a springboard for new ideas, flavors, and combinations that work to other kinds of pallets.

When i was younger, the idea of "aging" the rice probably crossed my mind 2 or 3 times. I used to think the Chinese chefs somehow masterfully cooked the freshly steamed rice. Now i see the "aging" is more common than i realize, lol.
I love this review. You clearly like the source material. The actual book is descent, but as you point out: Those are basic recipices with basic seasoning; so your approach of: Try it and adapt: That is the magic of cooking :-) So, the recipies being allmost over simplified is a theme so that anyone can adapt it. Seeing differences between manga and anime leans into the theme.

This makes me want to at least try to make these myself. Also, "Double the ingredients" means the spices, not the rice. You don't need more rice (or more egg really) when doing up fried rice (and maybe add a bit of garlic to it, as it compliments scallions/green onions well)
“Spoiler alert i over cooked it” as an average home cook I felt that. Especially with fish.
Yeah I always struggle with seafood. My instincts tell me to cook it more to be safe but I always regret it lol
For me, I would prefer a recipe from a cookbook to be under-seasoned than over becase I know to add more for next time instead of less and just have to guess how much less.

This book is for amatuer who loves to cook for themselves. Its affordable, simple, and collectibles too. It fits for me, i love to cook a bit but only simple dishes, loves to collect OP stuff and a fan of Sanji 😂

This is incredibly insightful! I’ve struggled with cooking myself, and was looking for a way to introduce myself to it that would be simple and effective! For the drumsticks, I think they'd be way better if you made half-boiled soy marinated eggs like they used in ramen, and put them in fridge-cold so they don't cook the yolk much more. That would keep them moist and add a punch of flavor.

As someone who grew up working kitchens and spending half my days at high school learning to cook Sanji is such an awesome character to see in One Piece. I love pretty much everything about his character. The cigarettes(chefs/cooks know, lol), not using his hands in fights, his passion for food and feeding those who are in need. It all comes together perfectly and he feels very genuine. Also, the Barates arc was awesome and I loved the interactions between chefs, one of my favorites.
As someone who owns the book and been cooking these meals. Yes they are good. 😎

I get that they made the recipes simple so that any fan could make it, but I kind of wish they make one where they consult with world class chefs to make dishes with the same tools that sanji would theoretically have. I wouldn't mind tougher recipes for more canonically accurate tasting foods. Sanji is supposed to be an incredible cook after all.
Or maybe everyone in the One Piece world has a bland taste pallette 🤷🏾♂️

If I remember correctly, Sanji is French. I think European palettes are different from Asians (I remember due to saliva excreation or something like that) hence Asians use stronger flavor when it comes to dishes compared to Europeans. (I find Western cuisine bland.)
@@yana_desu they do'nt use stronger flavor just more spicy because in europea we don't handly spicy stuff that welle. Yeah sanji is french which is considered the most gastronomic cook in the world so call it bland sound like bad taste

Well, at it's most basic it's rice and you fry it. Some people get really peculiar about getting specific recipes perfectly right (looking at you, Uncle Roger) but really, you can just treat it as a method of using left-over rice in a tasty way.
I only made the Fried Rice for Gin. I agree, very mildly flavored. Next time, I would add garlic and some seafood to match the anime. Thanks for the review!!

Am a cook so Sanji is my favourite character in the one piece anime he's the coolest character for me can't get enough of his cooking skills scenes it motivates me alot
Oda is genius!. He create a pirates life story but also think this all recipes from their chef that you can cook at your home, named it and also what detail ingredients.
I completely agree with what you said about the white pepper. I only discovered it a few years ago when i started learning more recipes but i find i vastly prefer it to black pepper. It has the warmth of pepper but it doesn't have the sharpness you get with black pepper. it's much more mild and I've found I much prefer that

The meat in a bone is pretty challenging to make, at least for the first time, but it's worth it. I'd kill for these!
I also made Blackbeard's cherry pie, which I also enjoyed (I don't even like cherry).
And the pumpkin juice, which was a total flop. If anyone knows how to make sweet foods from pumpkin, advise, please. It's also really odd that that's the only drink in the book.
The cherry pie looks great! I was thinking of making that. Shame about the pumpkin juice though. And yeah now that you mention it, it's weird how there's only one drink in the book

2. Dark brown sugar often works best with pumpkin
3. If you use spices, prioritize cinnamon, then nutmeg (This is more personal, I like cinnamon)
what Sprachman said: it depends on the kind of pumkim, "butternuts" are already sweet most of the times e.g
I made the croquettes and the egg and crab sandwiches last week. Croquettes were good but I plan to season the potatoes more next time (I seasoned the meat pretty well though). Egg and crab sandwiches just needed a little salt. I had seasoned it with Old Bay seasoning though so that had it tasting pretty good. Would make both again.

With all the art, I feel like I’m reading a comic. Your food looks amazing 😋. The ingredients seem easy to find, except the marlin.
I’ve mostly had bland fried rice. If the flavour of the wok isn’t in it, it’s very dull 😂. First I’ve heard of adding corned beef to it. Doubling the seasoning sounds good.
I love white pepper with soups and cabbage. Nice to have new uses for it.

I honestly love that they decided to make something like a Sanji cook book. The only thing I'm a little disappointed with, is that they called Zoro "Zolo", that name was given to him in the first couple arcs of the English translation of the manga (Now changed to Zoro if I'm not mistaken) and the 4Kidz Dub

For some reason, all I can imagine is that Sanji made most of those delicious foods in the pictures JUST for his crew and anyone else who just wanted something to eat. Like the pictures is absolutely what I imagine a real life version to produce so I can't wait for the live action because Sanjis character is going to pull the heartstrings just as much in the anime and manga . Love all my one piece family. I hope to adventure and meet you all one day 👒

I was expecting the 1st recipe to contain atleast some seafood since the anime does show octopus, squid and prawn.. Probably taste like Nasi Goreng Seafood which are very famous in South Thailand area
I’ve made the drumsticks before multiple times. You definitely need to marinate the meet and I also replaced the egg with cheese. When in the oven the cheese may leak out a bit but it’s really good!

i'll have to get it for the artwork alone, i am a huge One Piece fan, on my 2nd watch as i wait for the dub to finish playing catch up with the series. i totally am most interested in eating Meat on the Bone and Sanji's Fried Rice, as those are two dishes that stand out in the franchise.

I would very much like that at the end of One piece Sanji publishes a recipe book and it becomes something like the most important cookbook in this universe being used by the navy, the revolutionaries and the pirates and even the celestial dragons. It's probably an exaggeration, but if Sanji doesn't excel in strength, he should be reputed for his non-physical skills like cooking.
