DIYers are always going to DIY, and a color correction (or even just fixing a terrible haircut at times) can be an absolute nightmare, and the client is almost never happy with the result, except for being okay with their hair at least being presentable and not something to be embarrassed about

YES! I used to be a vet surgeon and people accused us of overcharging all the time, but running a vet clinic costs even more than running a hair salon (which is not cheap either). I cannot afford to have a salon colour my hair so I do it myself (still get it cut professionally tho!). Thnks to HB I use Blondme and sectioning, and (mostly) it turns out ok!
I am a hairdresser of 30+ years. I know saloms are not for everyone. Thats just life. I would rather help someone than belittle them for that. (I have autistic friends and some people genuinely don't have spare money.)

Our autistic son (22) _freaks out_ if his hair gets longer than a half inch... EXACTLY. We can't cut hair to save our lives but we can manage that shaver every two weeks! That said, I'm glad he's a boy or we'd be broke!

You chose your parents before you incarnated. If we choose parents who aren't as loving or don't have as much time for us, it's because we believed that's exactly what we needed to start our life story perfectly. My mother wasn't loving either, she also had little time for us children, my father was always working. Today I understand that I chose these parents in order to quickly start into this world independently and hardened and I am mentally the strongest person I know, but also the happiest and most loving. Our parents are not responsible for what we make of ourselves. 🙂

Do you have any idea of the pain and damage you could cause others? Haven't you ever heard of Complex Post Traumatic Stress? I guess you would say people, 'chose,' abusive parents. Complete tosh. Yes, I say that even though as a child I was beaten by my mother with everything she could get her hands on during her regular narcissistic tantrums. My brothers too.
Nevertheless, we still love our mother today and she too has now become peaceful. At some point she also apologized to me.
I am not saying that every person must be united in love because of family circumstances, even if they have experienced abuse in that family. I'm just saying that you can also heal from it, learn from it, build strength from it and most importantly learn unconditional love. That's why we incarnate in the first place.
From a higher dimensional view of the soul, every painful experience holds a lot of learning potential and yes, I can tell you from experience, one can also learn unconditional love from suffering and be grateful in retrospect for every painful situation that was the teacher to us.
What sounds better? To be forever broken, distrustful, full of hate and fear because of something you experienced as a child many years ago. Or to be able to say that you have forgiven and let the love grow over it and therefore feel strong and be able to show other people how to heal their own trauma? I prefer to live the latter and because I was incarnated to serve as a teacher of unconditional love for people, I chose my mother before my incarnation, even though I knew she was not suitable to be a “good mother.”
Before incarnation, each soul selects the appropriate parents and discusses with them what the time together should look like. And if souls have reason to experience abuse from their parents in childhood, then they want to experience it and learn from it. We are not our body, we are eternal life. Each incarnation is something like a film or a computer game for the soul. Every suffering is just a short excursion into this cinema and every tortured soul receives much healing and love when it ends this life story and leaves the body again. Every soul knows this before incarnation and we are much braver at the soul level than we are as humans in duality.
I speak to you from pure experience and would never say anything that I haven't experienced myself. I remember a lot because this is my life's work. In addition, for many years I have had very intensive contacts with higher dimensional beings, with the deceased, with beings who have never incarnated, with extraterrestrials, with angels. They are with me now as I write this to you and they have remembered me about many things and how life really works.
You too will remember yourself. Every person does it as they mature. The only thing required is your free will. Free will is a heartfelt desire. So open your heart to the truth and you will find peace. 🙂 💕☀️

Never apologize for wanting to make a good living. You worked your hair off getting the education and experience to be where you are now. Yes it is expensive but many of us think it’s worth it. I am impressed with the jobs these ladies did and I really enjoyed watching a mom and sister support the girl ❤

The best haircut i ever had was when i went to the cosmetology school & told the girl to "do whatever you want just don't chop it all off". She looked at me skeptically & said "Really??" I said "Sure, I just want a change!" Then she got super excited & was really into & it looked FANTASTIC when she was done! Her instructor was kind of worried about me not giving any direction but at the end she told her she did a great job. 💇♀️💜
As far as fellow hairdressers getting mad at you for giving advice, the way I feel about that is that no matter how much advice you give, they’ll never be able to do what you do. They’re just managing with what they can do and you can usually tell the people who cut their own hair. I’m one of them! 🙋🏻♀️🤣 but it’s kind of like trying to follow along with a Bob Ross painting video. It’s all fun and games until you realize you can’t frikin do this and what you just painted looks RIDICULOUS! lol
I have a pixie. Have for years. My daughter wanted ‘boy’ cut for same reasons as this little girl. We even practiced what to say if/when someone thought she was a boy. It’s just hair. She even gets red streaks put in sometimes. Girl power. I’ve since gone even shorter to a shaved pixie pompadour style. ❤

I love how that mom lets her girl decide which hairstyle she wants. I once was talking to a woman who had a 9 year old daughter with hair down to her butt. That girl hated her long hair and had even started hacking the front with crafting scissors herself. Her mom said "she wants her hair cut to a bob because a lot of girls in her school now have that hair cut, but she's a girl, she is supposed to have long her.", I got really mad in that moment. If the girl doesn't feel comfortable and is clearly annoyed by that much hair on her head, why not allow her to have it shorter? I never understood that. My mom always let me decide my hairstyle and length and I am glad she did. When I didn't like the hairstyle on myself, I learned from it. That's how I figured out what I actually liked and what I feel most comfortable with. Let your kids decide more. Many of these choices are not even important. And hair style changes at such a young age really are nothing permanent. Kids wanna explore, they are curious and they should have that freedom. Being a kid should be carefree and fun, not "No, you can't decide anything for yourself until you're grown up.", coz we all know how restricted life can be when we start working and having to be an adult. If a kid isn't allowed to figure out what they like and who they wanna be, how are they supposed to make good choices for themselves when they are older? Think about that!
Very well said Julia. I was surprised that no one noticed this mother was so in tune that she even asked her little girl if she wanted her hair cut like a boy because she felt like a boy or just because she wanted it short. She was so open-minded loving and accepting she was checking in to see if her daughter was expressing some gender confusion. They are very fortunate little girls for that matter they're all very blessed to have each other.
I'm a woman and I've been to the hairdresser twice in my life. I have been cutting and coloring my hair myself since I was a child, including pixie, mohawk, mullet, etc and bright colors. I also cut my entire family's hair.
I don't have a lot of money, I don't like it when people fiddle with me and most of all I hate small talk. So I have plenty of reasons not to go to the hairdresser, but my biggest reason is: Why should I let someone else do what I can do myself?! 🙂
Every person is different and I'm sure there are people who love running to the hairdresser every week, but also many who prefer to do it independently. 🙂
Tip: The more often you do it yourself, the better you get at it. 🙂
I'm the same! Don't like the senseless chit chat and I hate seeing myself in a mirror. I cut and color my own and have since I was 18 (I'm 58).
The only time I go to a salon is if I want a drastic change then, I'll upkeep it on my own.
Stylists (most) deserve what they charge, and I commend them for their creativity and abilities but, living on a budget makes it near impossible.
I always chuckle tho when people ask me for my stylists name... 😏

To go to a hairdresser where I live, I would have to choose not to eat for the week. I agree that the more you cut your own hair, the better you get at it. My sister in law of 10 years only just realised I cut my own hair recently when I said about needing to trim my hair.
My mom was constantly giving me perms when I was a little girl, under 12. Finally I forcefully told her to give me a break! Come to find out I actually had naturally CURLY HAIR! Bwahahahahaha! 😂 Boy did she feel silly 😢.
Of course due to all the trauma I straightened my hair in high school. Until I learned to loved it again. 🥰

I got a Stevie Nicks perm when I was 13 and the stylist could not figure out why my hair got fried afterward. The owner of the salon could not figure it out, either. Fast forward to me at age 36 with naturally wavy hair! My grandmother, uncle and mom all had some degree of waviness in their hair, but I didn't! Now I'm in my 50s and I have curly wavy hair

When I was a child (around 4 y/o) I also begged my mum to get a „boy haircut“. She eventually caved and I LOVED it. I was thrilled. I felt so cool.
It's just hair, mom. Let the kids do what they want. One of my daughters has bright red hair, and one of my sons has long gorgeous hair. It's their hair, and as long as it is what they want, they can have it. 🎉🎉🎉

Here in the uk we use the word Fringe, but in the USA they use the word Bangs. I’m interested to know how the word “Bang” was first used to describe the front piece of your hair.

Your hair is the only part of your outfit that you wear every day. I'm happy to pay a good hairdresser for a good haircut.
The longer your hair the most styles you have at your disposal to actually change this a bit without having to resort to cisors.
Not to mention acessories.
But just like you, I would happily create a budget to go to a good hairdresser.
What a beautiful whanau ❤ you are such a passionate parent, listening and hearing our tamariki are two very different things and it can be difficult to fully hear, understand and trust their voice sometimes. Absolutely agree. I've never done my hair at home and I never will. However, I really enjoy your videos and the knowledge you spread since there are many people out there who can't or won't go to a salon no matter what, and they can really benefit from all your tips. It's some kind of community service - I believe - and it won't make salons go out of business, there are many of us who will always be happy to pay to have our hair done.

I love this video. We let our au pair cut our daughter’s hair during lockdown. It was a fun memory for them both and the hair did grow back 😂

I think you're not suggesting anyone to avoid hairdressers, the very contrary. We can all see that cutting/colouring at home is difficult and risky. But yes, sometimes in life we just need/try to save money, and your tips are useful. No hairdresser who is good at his/her job can be replaced, so keep on with your very good videos, you also help us appreciate the difference between a good and a bad hairdresser, so we can pick the best one. The last hairdresser burnt my hair with foils and heat, had I watched your videos before I wouldn't let him do it to my hair and now they would be long. I had to chop 3 years of growth and start all over again. Good job Hair Buddha, hugs from Italy! Ciao!
There are so many incompetent hairdressers that drive people do their own hair ,I know what you are talking about ..been there,growing your natural hair so they have a perfect "canvas",you come up with the idea,pictures,say this is the range,if this can't be achieved ,than smth like this ..and you end up with all you didn't want !
@@Chailattefizz yes, I had to cut all the burnt hair, now I have a kind of 80s Mel Gibson's mullet 😂 the red light burnt what I had on top 😂. Now I retouch my natural colour at home to cover greys, and will go to the hairdresser once a year just to refresh the cut. Never again I will change my colour, neither at the salon ir at home. But my Goodness how can such a bad salon not go broke? The funniest thing is that she denied having damaged my hair. 🤷 Luckily, I was able not to have a breakdown, but I spent some hours of real sorrow for my hair. Hugs ❤️

When i was little i didnt like anyone touching my hair, or me in general. Going to a hairdresser was out of the question, i have a meltdown at the thought of it. So my mom trimmed my hair. Now as a grown person i tried a hairdresser but i still really disliked it. So now im just letting it grow and trim the splitends myself. Anyway there are many reasons kids dont want to go to a hairdresser. My mom did good but having tips like yours would have been helpful
When I was around 9 I wanted a pixie cut. I thought they were so cute. My mom wouldn’t let me. I’m so happy that little kid could get what she wanted!

I switched hairstylists and am paying $15 more and she is worth it! I’m in her chair longer and I look great when I leave. She doesn’t book three people for the same time either-the other did.

I found that statement she made odd also. If she was being honest about that, maybe she was cutting off so she could actually focus on the inside and not get distracted by the outside.

I love how fair you are with your reviews…I do cut my own hair…mostly because I don’t live near many hair stylists and because I know really good cutters are hard to come by…so…I kinda learned to do it myself and I actually like it…it took many cuts times get it right, but I now can do it reasonably well…if I had a place I could go I would…but I don’t. I will say. Good stylists are a rare breed and worth every dime they charge. Being an artist myself I will say, they are artists in their own right. Much respect.

I think the first time I went to a hairdresser, I was old enough to book and pay it myself. Until then mom cut all our hair at home. There was no youtube back then, but I still remember the instuction book she got with the home haircutting kit.

We appreciate all of your advice to help people who want to cut their own hair. I have cut my own hair for the past 20 years, after I had my hair permed and pieces broke off and I looked like Alfalfa.. from the Little Rascals. And when I asked them to let it be long in the back because I wanted to grow it out, and they shaved my neck. I appreciate all your information so that I can do my own hair.

I did something similar. My two youngest got lice at school and they have so much hair, like little chinchillas. It was safest to shave them and treat the house. They were apprehensive about it being little and having autism. So I shaved my head too. Was funny because I got myself psyched up because I was worried I would be sad but I wasn’t and it felt freeing. Then we did a little photo shoot. I got a little flack from strangers being a mom with a shaved head but I didn’t do it for them. I have low key thought about doing it again lol

why is it that the people who want a PIXIE cut are the only one's I've seen to realize it's a good idea to start longer and shorten it as you go so you don't end up with hair at mid-ear-length rather than chin length
I cut my own bangs ONCE. And I was so proud of myself.
Then I took my mother to her standing hairdresser appointment, and her hairdresser (who had about 20+ years experience) looked at me for two seconds and said, " You cut your own bangs....". I never tried that again.
