Can't lead anybody to the top with horrible shooting in the playoffs, endless amounts of turnovers, and bad defense. Trey Young's playoff career numbers: - 40% overall shooting 🧱 - 29.7% on 3s on 8.7 attempts 🧱 - 85% on free throws - 9 apg - 4.4 turnovers per game - Assist to turnover ratio of 2.05 (great ones have 2.5 to 3+)
Trae Young clearly has elite skills in a couple categories, but his game is riddled with weaknesses and inefficiencies. Overall he is not versatile or well-rounded. He is one of the worst defenders in the league and typically leads the league in turnovers. 10 assists per game is great but if it goes along with 4-5 turnovers per game, that is inefficient. 25 points per game is great but his shot selection is questionable at best. I think a vast majority of teams would rather have a guy who puts up 18-7 on 2 turnovers and 50/40 shooting and plays league average defense for their position, than a guy that puts up 25-10 with 4-5 turnovers and 43/36 shooting and atrocious defense. That's just too many exploitable weaknesses and inefficiencies, despite the impressive production. I think the real question is, if he was on a better team, would his shooting and passing efficiency, off-ball play, and defense improve as his points and assists per game go down a bit? If the answer is yes, then he could absolutely be valuable for a contender. If the answer is no, then he won't have a successful career going forward.
On a better team? 🤔 Trae would be considered useless on a “better” team. He’s the main reason why his current team isn’t better… On a “better” team I assume means having a player who’s better than him (or at least equivalent) you can play through.. the main issue with that is, Trae lacks the ability (and IQ) to play off-ball. Trae is only good (eh, decent) when he’s the main facilitator.. and on the opposite end of the court, it’s just as the old saying goes; “you’re only as strong as your weakest link.”
Inefficient 25 & 10 guy. Shoots 43% overall, 35% on 3s, and 4+ turnover per game. Still an All-star, just not a real #1 guy. Look at Steph Curry. Shoots 47% overall, 42% on 3s, and 3.1 turnovers per game. More efficient shooting and far less turnovers.

I have given up on the Trae stock but I understand if you do, I feel like Atlanta has always had good fits on paper on the wings but it wouldn't exactly translate on the court except for 2021, but who knows maybe we wrong maybe we not
reminds me of stephon marbury, he could dominate and put up numbers, but never won in dominate fashion, doesnt elevate his team mates, which is job one for a point guard and his on/off plus minus shows that
Trae’s problem is he only knows how to play one style of basketball which is fine for his individual goals but he’s a detriment to his teammates at times he needs the ball in order for you to get the best version of him he can’t run off screens he can’t make simple cuts to the basket or spot up for 3 if he could he and d Murray would’ve been very hard to deal with
Of course, this is just my opinion, it speaks volumes that players and media don't show Trey the "respect" he think he deserves. This is coming from a bias mind so I wouldn't debate it if someone said my view may not have too much validity but on top of his weaknesses I think he's just not a likeable person and because of that, this notion that from coaches and players/media don't give him respect may play a part in it.
For his lack of defense he gotta have great shooting splits n just a offensive juggernaut to LEAD to a finals And every trade we made is bc of trae (except red velvet) so idk
He can play in the same type of the system what Boston Celtics had with Thomas as point guard. You just need to build a team especially for him. Is he good enough for that? That's the question.
Too ball dominate, not efficient shooter, too many turnovers, and not good on defense. Yes, he gets a lot of assists and points. However, it is done taking too many shots and too many turnovers. 2.26 assist to turnover ratio for his career. Great point guards usually are between 2.5 to 3 on a a/t ratio. Scoring 25 ppg while shooting 43% overall and 35% on 3s in his career is not efficient. His only truly efficient year was his 2021-2022 season. In that season where he played 76 games, he shot 46% overall and 38% on 3s.
he shot 37 on 3s this year and 43 from the floor. that's not far off from someone like Lillard from 3. so why is he seen as an efficient shooter and not Trae
@@akin242002 that doesn't answer the question. That's a clear discrepancy. Lillard is seen as a sniper from deep every year. People always hype up his shooting although he is sub 40 from 3. Trae is like .2 away and is an inefficient shot chucker?
If people are going to point out his defense, they should also point out the defence of guys like a Luka Dončić, Tyrese Donovan, Mitchell, Damian Lillard, Steph Curry guys like that, but I never hear anybody talk about their defence because their defence is just as bad
What’re you talking about? People were KILLING Luka and Damian about their lack of defense and Trae has an even bigger disadvantage because he’s smaller and shorter than even person you mentioned
Luka was getting roasted by the media for his bad defense in the playoffs. Yes, he got steals. However, opposing players were blowing by him for easy buckets whenever he tried to guard someone near the free throw line.
The teams on top of the league aren't looking for a primary creator because you can't be successful without one. It's not his fault he's stuck on a middling franchise who've shown perpetual ineptitude. The only team that makes any sense to make a move for him is the Lakers, but who'd want to be apart of that mess right now?
While he'll always be a subpar defender, the narrative on Trae won't change until he accepts a lesser role to a much better player the way Kyrie did in Dallas and in order to do that he has to learn how to play OFF-BALL. That's the #1 thing holding him back -- he hasn't shown the willingness to do the Steph Curry thing where you rove and cut WITHOUT the basketball for catch and shoot attempts or to play in the corners to take 3s off the catch. Trae is much too ball-dominant and reliant on generating his offense off drives and dribble penetration and trying to get assists. Until he learns how to do all that, Trae will not be able to find real success in the NBA and given the current trajectory of the Hawks, it's not going to get better for awhile.
he doesn't got a REAL team yet imo, the best he got were bogy, capela and collins which he took to the ECF, ATL is failing him on building a real contender team around him (unlike luka).
A franchise leader and former leader in points and assists in college and the NBA (one of the only few to do so) is good as a sixth man. y'all just be talking

Not to mention he is a defensive liability. Production is not the same as impact; efficiency, defense, and ability to play effectively off ball are all important, especially when you're on a legitimate contender rather than a mediocre team. @@alexanderhenry9133 yes he is a great shooter and playmaker those are categories he is elite in, by himself he can get a team to be top 10 in offensive rating due to his ability to raise the floor for his team he is not good at a lot of things but don’t say he isn’t a good shooter or playmaker

No other team in is going to put up with him being an inefficient scorer while being one of the worst defenders in the league. The past two years he's averaging 43% from the field on 19 attempts a game. His pro's aren't good enough to outweigh his cons. In the regular season, Trey is the better 3-point shooter. 35% vs 34%. In the playoffs, Luka is the better 3-point shooter. 34% vs 29%. One can make a legitimate argument that Luka is better when it matters (the playoffs).
I still don’t see what the big difference between Luka Dončić, and Trae Young is besides height. They do the exact same things but one has a much better roster around him and I’m much better front office. Numbers are pretty much identical.
@@MrTerrell966 Not really. Luka is a more efficient shooter, more versatile offensively, a better rebounder, and a better defender.
For his lack of defense he gotta have great shooting splits n just a offensive juggernaut to LEAD to a finals
And every trade we made is bc of trae (except red velvet) so idk
@@zay_tiggygaming Dame has similar issues, especially when the 3s are not falling.
@@akin242002 that doesn't answer the question. That's a clear discrepancy. Lillard is seen as a sniper from deep every year. People always hype up his shooting although he is sub 40 from 3. Trae is like .2 away and is an inefficient shot chucker?
Bruh, even Luka started playing defense from year 3.
If he put some effort on the other side he will get respect. Defense wins chips not offense
People are jealous of his dashing looks.
this is a bull shit take! give trae young wemby and see what happens
Trey young should be with Embid and Maxey. Paul George was the addition they needed.
He puts up hof numbers
If people are going to point out his defense, they should also point out the defence of guys like a Luka Dončić, Tyrese Donovan, Mitchell, Damian Lillard, Steph Curry guys like that, but I never hear anybody talk about their defence because their defence is just as bad
What’re you talking about? People were KILLING Luka and Damian about their lack of defense and Trae has an even bigger disadvantage because he’s smaller and shorter than even person you mentioned
@@itisnottaken4444 trae had a better defensive season than everyone I named except Ja. Numbers don’t lie. It’s on google
I think his flaws is not really his defense but his field goal percentage for the shots he taking he not very consistent, like he just a hit or miss
Great player
he doesn't got a REAL team yet imo, the best he got were bogy, capela and collins which he took to the ECF, ATL is failing him on building a real contender team around him (unlike luka).
Ppl really disrespecting a superstar 😭
A video on Matas Buzelis would be cool!
Why should u trade trae Young now? Cause murray is traded now
Yaayyyy let's gooo!!!!
Trae Young is a great sixth man to run a second unit but definitely does not need to be THE GUY
A franchise leader and former leader in points and assists in college and the NBA (one of the only few to do so) is good as a sixth man. y'all just be talking
@@zay_tiggygamingI agree
There's more to this than meets the eye.
Now that's a great sponsorship!
He can be a Kyrie. He’s just not a LeBron.
Is the roster he is playing with an NBA caliber team ?
He would fit in perfect in Orlando. Plz plz trade for him 🙏
Great video
How is playing in pts and assist not something to show?
THE GOAT IS BACK YALL
Trevor what's up!
If i were Masai i would offer IQ and picks for Trae.
Only with a dominant center defensively
Trae seems like he would make a bad team better and a good team worse
Like Bradley Beal and John Wall?
@@rezhaadriantanuharja3389 actually yeah, good comparison there. I would add post OKC Russell Westbrook to that list. Guy plays hard and helps bad teams (think injury depleted Clippers), but you don’t want him doing that if the team is actually contending
As a life long Hawks fan... nobody wants Trae because he is not a winning basketball player. If hes a top 2 option, youre cooked.
How can he be a winning player when y’all teams are always terrible
Just send him to Miami, as we are now we just add Trae and we are in the finals again!
@kensingtoncharles9506 maybe we're terrible because our best players is 4 feet tall and is a turnstile on D
@@weedhigh2564 so we send him for nothing? Talk in realities man.
He's more than solid as a number 2 with a dynamic big man as the #1.
Appreciate the video.. but I just watched 12 minutes of this video and still don't know why nobody wants him.. you just shared don't numbers but nothing actually on why he's not wanted..
Idk I mean giannis is a superstar and he’s had terrible playoff success the last two years
Trey young would be great fit on contending team his great scorer shooter and playmaker
Is he a great shooter and playmaker though? His volume is high but his efficiency is mediocre. I'd rather have a guy that gets 20 points 7 assists per game on 2 turnovers and 50/40 shooting, than a guy who gets 25-10 with 4-5 turnovers and 43/36 shooting. Not to mention he is a defensive liability.
Production is not the same as impact; efficiency, defense, and ability to play effectively off ball are all important, especially when you're on a legitimate contender rather than a mediocre team. The dude has inefficiencies and weaknesses to his game which will be exploited by opponents in deep playoff runs.
If Miami gets him, its over!
@@weedhigh2564factssss
Indiana and New York have better players than ATL. What does Atlanta want from the man. Luca the same thing until Dallas got better players.
When you’re not a 2 way player…
Stop, doesnt joel embid has nearly the same results in playoffs, and there are more players like this that are way more hyped
Embid has less success in the playoffs than Trae. Trae has made a conference finals.
@@otislamar8613 see
Best he can be is a d grade Westbrook when the thunder let him get all those stats. N just hope they squeak in afew wins while he's doing that
TREEESE THE GOAT IS BACK
Thank you bro ❤
If you put Trae in a contender team, is he still Ice Trae? like put him in Celtics as replacement of White. That will weaken the Celtics😅
It’s not that hard , bra plays no d. He’s one of the top passers in the world though.
He can't be worse than D Lo in the playoffs. LeBron should trade for him.
He is in the play in against the bulls he wasn't even getting back on defense, he'd gamble for a steal get blown by and then slowly walk towards the guy who blew by him pretending to care on defense. Anytime he checked into the game while it was close they'd instantly build a 20 point lead cus of how inefficient the shots he takes are and he can't play defense or tbh is just too lazy
Did bro just say haliburton who played nothing but injured teams is better than trae 😂😂😂😂
With a better supporting cast the trae hate is incredible
Hali did for a couple months what Trae did for years and people act like they don't see it.

2 things......if you are going to text/stats on screen, dont do whatever it is you are doing to make the text flicker in and out
second.....never show zach lowe....the autistic way he flays his arms around is annoying, and his double lazy eyes are really unsettling
other than that, nice video 😊
BUST
Either he stays in ATL or he’ll go to the lakers
Get ready to learn Chinese, Trae Young.
The Hawks want him.....
Eventually, altanta got to move on from Trae Young he’s a good passer.and can hit some long range threes but he’s terrible defensively.
luka next pls thanks
You kinda sound like Mike Korzemba
Why can’t he just develop his defense? Isn’t 6 years enough?
He’s 6’1 he will NEVER be a lockdown defender.
@@inpursuitofexcellence750 so he’s a half-time employee basically
@@willmichael4033 nah the effort is there--look at his streak numbers. He can be pesky. Your expectations are too high of a 6’1 guard 180 pound guard. This ain’t the gridiron.
@@inpursuitofexcellence750well maybe that’s he needs to work on more that’s considered one of his weaknesses every player has a weakness
People don't like him. Simple as that.
He’s a hard to look at that’s for sure
He has a 2.5 to 1 assist to turnover ratio, he shoots 30% from three in his playoff career. Those two stats alone prove he isn't anything special. Just a super high usage volume shooter
he shoots damn near the same percentage as Damian Lillard from 3
@@zay_tiggygaming That doesn't mean either is good. If he shooting 30% from three in the playoffs. He is useless
Trae Young is a beast I don’t get the hate
His short and doesn’t play d
No other team in is going to put up with him being an inefficient scorer while being one of the worst defenders in the league. The past two years he's averaging 43% from the field on 19 attempts a game. His pro's aren't good enough to outweigh his cons. If the dude could just be an average defender, or even a below average defender, teams would trade their future to get him. But being so inefficient, AND being one of the worst defensive players in the league, is going to keep him as the guy the Hawks traded Luka Doncic for.
So many bad contracts out there. Paul George will be one of them .
Trae is not a better 3 pt shooter than Luka
Smoking
In the regular season, Trey is the better 3-point shooter. 35% vs 34%.
In the playoffs, Luka is the better 3-point shooter. 34% vs 29%. One can make a legitimate argument that Luka is better when it matters (the playoffs).
He's great as a team's 3rd or 4th option
He is a 2nd option at lowest
Tiny and is a defensive liability who is ball dominate.
His game hasn't improved the entirety of his NBA career.
His defense is the worst in the league. nobody wants that
He’s Jalen Brunson without the supporting cast
Lmaooo facts
trey has limited ability
I still don’t see what the big difference between Luka Dončić, and Trae Young is besides height. They do the exact same things but one has a much better roster around him and I’m much better front office. Numbers are pretty much identical.
Stop smoking crack.
shit i’ll take him in miami 😂
My one friend still tries to make the argument that Mice Trae > Luka 😂
Theyre the same player.. One is just taller and fatter...
@@MrTerrell966 Not really. Luka is a more efficient shooter, more versatile offensively, a better rebounder, and a better defender. And given that Luka's defense was "exposed" in the Finals, imagine how much worse it would be for Trae.
Both are ball-dominant guards who turn the ball over a lot and are primarily one-way players. But Luka is clearly better. Put Trae on that Mavs team and they are not a contender.
trae young nice af you sleep
Trae take away the E and add SH. Trash.
