The tech being very similar to what they have in Dune 1 & 2 is representative of the themes of stagnation. The people in this world have basically maxed out what can be achieved with analog tech by forbidding digital tech. There are few things left to invent and improve.
I think it's more indicative of Brian Herbert's lack of imagination. Frank Herbert introduced new technology and radically changed the culture between Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune, which was the first long leap in time in the series. (The real series, which consists of only six books.) His son, unfortunately, is less interested in introducing new ideas than he is in cashing in on the franchise, so the theme of stagnation is very convenient for him.
@ I agree, though this is made very clear regarding tech in Frank’s novels. I was giving a more in universe answer that is canon. Side note, Brian is just the worst.
@@Etticos. The only explicit reference to technological stagnation is when Leto II induces it while forcing humanity down the "golden path." He blames an overreliance on spice as killing humanity's ambition. Apart from that, though, people read way too much into the anachronisms that Dune has that are a product of Herbert writing it in the 1960s. The lack of computers was supposedly offset by mentats; our idea of what computers can do changed radically since the books were written, so we see more stagnation there that wasn't intentional on Herbert's part. Regardless, there was never cultural stagnation. That's just completely inexcusable on Brian's part. Frank took great care to show that humanity's behavior changed to radical extremes over time with changing circumstances. The Fremen were completely unrecognizable in God Emperor of Dune because their planet changed. The honored matres were unrecognizably different from the sisterhood because of the scattering.
I haven't read any of the Brian Herbert books but I really enjoyed this series. Sure, it's a slow burn but it's beautifully acted and directed and it looks gorgeous. The only bad thing is that it's only 6 episodes.
Im at episode 2 right now, im just actively rooting against the Bene Gesserit. Theyre playing god, not only manipulating a whole intergalactic empire BUT SELECTIVE BREEDING? Yeah, no, actively hyped when theyre out of their depth even though I know from Dune that they'll obviously prevail.
I believe the Bene Gesserits symbolize female versions of real-life Jesuits. Gesserit.. Jesuit... not only do they sound the same, but there are a lot of parrells between the 2. Jesuits are a very high secret society that exists today. They're accused of masterminding politics, influencing monarchs, and even shaping the course of nations to suit their own agenda throughouthistory. That definitely sounds like a Bene Gesserits

To answer your question about are they in a network constantly, no. However Reverend mothers have went thru the spice agony like Jessica did in dune 2 so they have the memories of all of their maternal ancestors. So if a reverend mother is hearing voices in this show that’s what it is. Either that or some type of dream Prophecy like mother Kasha had in this episode so I’m not sure if she’s hearing her other memories there or her something else but it’s not her other sisters in a network that’s forsure.
I think you guys might like this one. This newly reimagines universe is such a great improvement to the original Movie from the 80's. Newer cinema technology has allowed what was once only imaginary environments to become almost real now-s-days. Also the show was better than I thought it would be.
@@TheMarauderOfficial look at Meryl Streep acting against Nicole Kidman. They're both great actresses, but one of them had work done, and the other one left her instrument of acting intact. These actresses around 70 now, that let themselves age, are bringing phenomenal performances. It's awesome if you're into that
I'm not sure if the show wants me to support Valia and her sisters because the sisterhood are the protagonists, but I dont see myself rooting for them under any circumstances, I'm rooting for one of the trainees and maybe one of the full sisters, beyond that I cant get behind most of the characters. In fact most of the characters are ones I'm rooting against for either being awful or idiotic. So I'm rooting for like 3 or 4 characters by the end of the season.
I love this channel but can we finish some series and jump on the other ones? P.S. one day i will see VIKINGS here i know it! ^_^ Have a best 2025 guys, love from Poland
Ah, the stuff made up by Frank's kid and his pal after Frank died. The Star Trek Discovery / Rings of Power of Dune. To be fair, though. I did enjoy some of the Kevin and Brian books and I can't help but love Erasmus as a character. I just look at it as an alternative universe. When the movies get to Chapterhouse, It'll be interesting to see how they deal with some of that.
i’m so glad you left this comment it really has helped spread positivity in the world, it’s so important that we voice our personal complaints about things that are made for enjoyment 😊
i was so excited for this show but i couldn’t even make it through this episode. “a new skill ive been honing” with the stupid screaming voice killed it for me.
How so? The voice is part of dune. It had to come from somewhere and would not have been perfect from the start but developed over generations to become what it is.
I don't think anyone expected child murder in the very first episode lol
The Emperor was the same actor that played Sofia Falcone's dad in "The Penguin"

Plus keep in mind that the series started with the first book being released 60 years ago, so with a totally different perspective from today.

That’s not a bad thing. Technological advancement isn’t a divine good. Spiritual, social, and cultural advancement are far more important than tech.
Travis Fimmel became well known from starring in the 'Vikings' Series. He has the same intensity in that.
Agreed. I also thought he was very good in the Australian show 'Black Snow'.
Such a cool reaction! Love seeing how excited Ariple are for more DP!

Actresses that haven't gotten work done become so powerful in old age.
There’s nothing more normal than aging.
what a weird thing to say

Put "Mare of Easttown" on the series to watch list
