Danny Thomas, Jack Benny, and Bob Newhart are my all-time favorite comedians. It’s so difficult to find recordings of Danny Thomas’s nightclub routines, so the three appearances on Jack Benny’s programs are priceless. (On the “Danny Thomas Show” & the few “Make Room for Daddy” episodes available, only 6 of his classic nightclub routines are used/recycled because he was still an active entertainer up until the time of his death in 1991 or ‘92.). Thomas had a “style” of singing that I enjoy - pleasant sound and phrasing, with personalized arrangements. I was just in college when he died & would have loved to have experienced one of his full live nightclub shows. Thank you for posting this - I’ve read that Jack truly enjoyed Danny’s stories/song parodies, which is why he reciprocated by appearing in 3 episodes of Danny’s TV show. Although now (rightly) remembered for founding that wonderful St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, very few now recall what an overall entertainer & pioneering TV producer he was. I never thought these comedy legends would be forgotten, but most of my contemporaries & colleagues have no idea who Danny Thomas & Jack Benny were. If it wasn’t for “The Big Bang Theory” and the “Elf” movie, they wouldn’t even know who Bob Newhart is. Thankfully, at 93, he’s still alive and active. I am so grateful for UA-cam postings of these GOAT performers.
Not much comedy now. No funny skits. Just repulsive people thinking they are funny while bonking America and politicians. No comedians , just insults. So sad.
It is such a thrill to watch these old shows. TV shows today can’t begin to compare to the classic shows with entertainer’s like Jack Benny, Danny Thomas, and many others of that era.
Jack Benny greatest of all time comedians. His guest and team can never be replaced. All comedians talk about today is politics. They are sickening. Jack was comedy at it's best. Johnny Carson is another favorite of mine.
Originally telecast on February 8, 1959. Ths was also Mary's final appearance. After filming two episodes that season, she decided to emulate her friend Gracie Allen, and retired from show business.
what a coincidence to come across this episode of The Jack Benny program that has Danny Thomas as a guest. just recently I saw a podcast with that loathsome bill maher who claimed that neither Jack Benny nor Danny Thomas were very funny. Now there is a true rube for you. After all these years people still find Mr. Benny & Mr. Thomas to be very funny and entertaining. bill maher will not be remembered as fondly or cherished as dearly as the great comedians of the golden age.
I can't stand the sound of the Bill Maher, what a bunch of hot air--so he's ignorant AND has no taste?! Classless. I happen to adore Jack Benny, and if he can make me laugh all these years later, then yes he is funny!
@Corno di Bassetto Jack was the "schlemeil", the butt of his own jokes. My favorite bit was in the Grocery Show shoe; Frank Nelson: "Go to the aisle between G and I". Jack Benny: "Well why didn't you just tell me to go to H?" Frank Nelson: "REMEMBER, YOU SAID IT, I DIDN'T!"
I always get the biggest laugh at this episode when Jack Benny tells the $1000 at a restaurant joke and it flops and then Danny Thomas tells it. Two of the greatest comedy talents that ever lived in this same clip! And the backup with Mary Livingstone, Mr. Drysdale from the Beverly Hillbillies and the very elegant Doris Packer is perfect. This is real talent, not the crass crude drivel you see today.
when i was a kid the local kc tv-market didn't show jack benny reruns. so i didn't have much of an opinion of him. when cable tv came along i discovered the "burns and allen show" and thought they were great. but still no jack benny. it wasn't until i saw the jack benny reruns on youtube that i finally had the chance to watch this wonderfully offbeat show. it was part sitcom, part variety show, his cast of regulars from rochester to mel blanc were fantastic and his guest stars, ranging from marilyn monroe, to isaac stern, to bogart, were just excellent. along with "the dick van dyke sjow" and "seinfeld" i now rank jack benny's show as one of the best half hour comedies ever. i haven't seen a bad episode yet and i've seen a lot of them.
The actress portraying the character of “Mrs. Lewis”, the sponsors wife also portrayed the character of “Mrs.Sohmers” on The George Burns & Gracie Allen Television Shows episodes starting in EITHER Seasons 6 OR 7. What Gracie innocently puts “Mrs.Sohmers through😊!
And, irony of ironies, this was during Jack's final season for American Tobacco [Lucky Strike]. Aftter 15 years on radio and television, they decided (in real life) not to exercise his option for another season. He found a new sponsor in Lever Brothers {Lux soap, Lux dishwashing liquid} for the fall of 1959. The character of "Mr. Lewis"- whoever Jack cast in his role- continued to appear from time to time.
A "short time"? Sam Hearn was originally "Schlepperman" {"Hullo, stranger!"} on his radio show in the 1930's [the last time he appeared as him was the 1963 Jayne Mansfield episode]. Years later, he often appeared as the "rube from Calabasas" {"Hi, rube!"}.
@@oldblackstock2499 He played Mr Drysdale but I don't know about if she played on the Beverly Hillbillies. But I do know that she played on Leave To Beaver as the school's principal.
Surviving the virus the Democrats colluded with China to complete the robbery of the national treasury has by quarantine allowed me to watch complete seasons of great 50s shows Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet / You Bet Your Life / Whats My Line and Jack Benny Show . I look fwd to getting back to normal this Novembet
Used to watch Jack way back in the fifties so I am really thrilled that his material is now available online. England, August 2023.

Such style and class. Never will see this anymore in America comedy.

HE COULD SAY ANYTHING AND MAKE IT FUNNY. I SAW HIM IN PERSON, HE WAS GREAT.
It is such a thrill to watch these old shows. TV shows today can’t begin to compare to the classic shows with entertainer’s like Jack Benny, Danny Thomas, and many others of that era.
Jack always let everyone else get the laughs. What a delight.
He was one of the best at self-deprecating humor.
Jack Benny had everybody and so much comedy on his show.
He walked out on the stage like he owned it. He did.
He walked out on the stage like he owned a dress too😆
@@DailyMotionBetter Jack admitted that his walk resembled that of a woman on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show.

I never been a big fan of Jonny Carson. He tells to many dirty jokes.
I never realized Danny Thomas had such a lovely singing voice.
I would call it passable, but not lovely.
I first remember seeing the Jack Benny n George Burns n Gracie shows on an old black n white Motorola tv back in 1974 and loved them both ever since
One of my favorites of all time. Together with Johnny Carson and George Burns

Danny Thomas founded St. Jude's Children's Hospital. God bless him.
Like Rochester, Jack had a unique voice.

Bil Maher will be forgotten in a few years. Jack and all will be remembered for as long as man is on earth.
When I was 8 years old, I wanted to marry him when I grew up!! Because he was so adorable. Everyone loved him. He's an angel. ♥️♥️♥️
That idiot pretty much missed the point of Jack Benny's jokes... Its just his own life made absurd. Like is that easy.
Another great episode. Very funny. Love me some JB. Thanks for sharing.
Great writing!,,,

Actress Doris Packer, portraying Mrs. Lewis in this episode, would later portray Mrs. Rayburn, principal of Beaver Cleaver's elementary school.
funny as a kid in the 60's these would be played off hours. Always enjoyed them albeit I did not always understand everything going on

The actor portraying Jack’s sponsor, is he the same actor who also portrayed “Mr.Drysdale” the banker on The Beverly Hillbillies?
Yes! Raymond Bailey kept his toupee on when he appeared as "Milburn Drysdale" on 'THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES".
That looked like Raymond Bailey (Milburn Drysdale of the Beverly Hillbillies) playing Mr. Lewis.
Don't worry we got your back (Edited)😂😅👌👍🤗
The man playing the violin was also, every once in a while, on The Jack Benny Radio Shows.
The violin players famous “Hey Rube” even on Jack’s radio shows.

*WITHOUT* his toupee! Sometimes, he wore it; other times, he didn't. During the years Bailey on the "HILLBILLIES", he always kept it on.
Didn't even recognize him!
I think that’s Doris Packer as Mrs. Lewis. She did several episodes on Burns and Allen as the wealthy matron.
