    Jack Benny was a GENIUS. Who could create a character of himself like he did? In real life, he wasn´t cheap, he was a gifted violinist, a good friend. But he liked make fun of himself just for make people laugh. And oh, man, he was charm and classy!

    When I visited Paris in 1999 I remember that there was a post office on top of the Eiffel Tower. The post cards had a special post mark from the tower.

    3,000 francs would have been about ten American dollars at the time.
    By international treaty the Champagne can only be French. In Italy it is called Spumante. In Spain it is called Spumosa. America never signed the treaty.

      The second a is short (IPA: æ), in France as well as Québec, contrary to the bizarre convention in phonetic transcription. The 1st a is nazalized, short in Québec, n long in France.

    Funny they are ribbing Jack about being cheap . In real life , he was very generous. Chevalier on the other hand was notorious for being a tightwad

      And I heard that Chevalier was a " sympathizer" . Interesting he was paired up w/ Jack Benny.

    Paris????
    Yeah, WAS a nice city.
    And another thing;
    The French couldn't find a word for bill or check, so they used the word as in math and in English
    "Addition" and added "La" to it. ;);)

    • @CaptZdq1
      @CaptZdq1 4 роки тому +5

      Actually, 'bill' is 'facture', at least in Québec. And 'check' is 'cheque', the English being borrowed from the French.
      And yes, ur right, Paris is no longer a nice city. Our time is one of decay.

      Have recently visited Paris, the food is great. The city is beautiful, they washed the streets every morning.

      Paris is the best city I've ever visited in my life. Your attempts to diss the French for using any word at all - given how many French language words the English language stole from it - are laughable. You need a happy pill, Mr Grumps!
