- The Return of Return of the Jedi: Special Edition by director Kyle Newman (Fanboys) is a loving and comedic look back at the final film of the original Star Wars trilogy, Return of the Jedi, in celebration of its landmark 30th anniversary. In this special extended cut, Kevin Smith, Seth Green, Chris Hardwick, Jaime King, Topher Grace, Fall Out Boy, Eli Roth, and other famous fans recount their memories of seeing the film for the first time and share their thoughts on some of the most talked-about elements of Return of the Jedi, including the ever-controversial Ewoks and Lando's not-so-convincing disguise in Jabba's palace.

2:25 Sam Witwer, nice impression of Lando! You've been the voice of Starkiller (from *Star Wars The Force Unleashed*), Palpatine, Darth Maul, and if they ask you to be Lando, there we go!
Sam Witwer's comment about no eye brows in the special edition was great! 😂 they need to release the theatrical version on blu ray
Well now that Disney bought Fox it might just happen
"without RETURN OF THE JEDI Spaceballs would make no sense."
yeah Return of the Jedi is totally my favorite star wars movie
I still remember seeing a glass cabinet in the main cinema complex in Sydney Australia around 1982 with all of these star wars toys and photos of ROTJ that was coming out in 83 and there was a photo of Luke and Vader standing together with Luke in black. I thought "oh no, Luke's gone to the Dark side!!!!"
This brought me to tears ..... we need to make more amazing starwars films!
I consider all three movies, one movie.
Sam Witwer just awesome that quote about the dentist and the dark side XD
No generation before or after will ever have the popculture experience that was seeing STARWARS or the ROCKYs in the theater. It was truly a special concert like event.
Oh I cried when Luke was calling for his father and I was saying to myself " save your son man...get your boy..help him Darth.. " was sitting there with praying hands hoping that he would do the right thing and he did....lol
One of my top geek moments of the year, getting a thank you in the credits of this and photographing my original action figures for the poster. Geek heaven.
I looooooooove return of the Jedi. I have seen it more times than i can possibly count.
The first time, I ever saw Star Wars was in 1998, and, I was 4 at the time. All I can say is, Star Wars changed my life. :D
OH MY GOD, SAM WITWER/STARKILLER IS ALSO IN THE VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yay and Darth maul
I just had a thought! In the second to last episode of being human, Witwer smashes through a wall like the koolaid guy. What if someone on youtube did something like that for starkiller!
Thank you for posting this.
So much nostalgia.....must...watch...RotJ...again...
I was about 6 or 7 months old when my parents took me along to see ROTJ. I've been told I didn't make a sound. 30 years later I'm an avid Star Wars fan, so, parents raised me right. :D
I feel bad for the generations that didn't grow up with these movies.
Because they really don't understand what Star Wars means to most of us.
I think the ones who truly cherish these films like you and I, can proudly say
Star Wars isn't just a movie.. It's apart of us, its apart of our hearts..
I luv how they all start singing at the end xD
That was cool!!! Happy 30th ROTJ!!
That was freak'n awesome! The Force is indeed strong with all of them. Great job.
Am with you man! Prequels, originals, novels, video games; the whole lot of it!!
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU. :)
I loved the Ewoks! They were so cute. I don't think anything will ever have as big of an effect on me like Star Wars did
Topher is my dream man. 🫠 And Dan Folger rules. Wish this was longer tho.
You know im glad to see that im not the only one who likes Return of the Jedi the best
There is just so much to love here.
This is great. I'm going to go back and rewatch the movie right now.
Oh, my gosh! Topher Grace is in the video! Seth Green, also.
I wonder how old he was 30 years ago from 2013 when he saw jedi for the first time. 5?
@ 1:22- 1:37, that's actually pretty close to the truth, from what I remember of Salacious Crumb's tale in the old 'Tales from Jabba's Palace' book. He's the court jester (Though he came by that role by accident; He was initially a drifter who snuck into the palace, but endeared himself to Jabba by throwing a bowl of food into Bib Fortuna's face, which Jabba found hilarious), but is under a lot of pressure to make Jabba laugh on demand, and never let Jabba hear the same joke twice.
Amazing Work!
i know right! that was the best part!! so triumphant and happy. now it's some simple melody without any significant build. so sad
Thanks for this! I've been wanting to see this. And who disliked this video?!
Most of them were outspoken about the changes in the originals and the eventual prequels. Topher Grace did a re-edit of the prequels into one 85 min movie, and I definitely remember Kevin Smith hating on the young Anakin ghost.
one of my first child merious is seeing the it in when is was 3 years old. im 33 now and all always remenber that when the eworks came on screen i coundn't look away
Loved this.
I like Ewoks too, I'm glad 'm finally not alone, and am in good company with a few actors NICE.
The Emperor's beautiful eyes... dam... I almost explode laughing... greatest stomach ache ever!
Return of the Jedi is my all time favorite Star Wars movie. I'll admit the Empire Strikes Back is the best from the series, but this one is my favorite.
I went to the screening of RotJ at the Egyptian Theatre where they premiered this, it wa great. But I swear there was a portion about Boba Fett and the Sarlacc Pit.
My fav is a new hope, to me nothing can beat it!
Dan Fogler's impressions crack me up!
I was in 9th grade when Jedi came out. That day was a "sick day"
That was great on soo many levels ;)
I love Return of the Jedi. Great movie!!!
OMG! that is a fantastic idea...i really hope someone will make it happen!!
The Original Star Wars (A New Hope) is and always will be my favorite. It's when all the characters meet and their bonds grow even from different backgrounds. But the last duel between Luke and Vader and the Emperor is my favorite duel of the whole trilogy and man Leia was hot in the Slave outfit. I still think the Cantina is cooler than Jabba's Palace but the Rancor was cooler than the Wampa. I mainly loved the conclusion to Return of the Jedi better than any of the other endings.
The Ewoks blink in the blu-ray version. They should have made Salacious Crumb, Admiral Akbar and Nien Nunb blink too. The "NO" did not need to be added. That's like when Lando pulls his mask down, as if we can't see that it's him.
Awesome!
As well you should. Jaime King is just awesome and Sam Witwer has done a whole lot of awesome stuff with Star Wars.
Yeah he mentioned that as well, he said it all came down to the Shaw incident and the fact that his voice wasn't used, and James Earl Jones was hired because it was cheaper to have him do it than fly Dave from England to re-record his dialogue, which he admitted might have been for the best for the character at least. It's sad really considering he was the physical aspect of Vader.
They were all great, Topher Grace was my favorite because Eric Foreman was a super nerdy Starwars nerd on That 70's Show.
This made me very happy ^^
I love Return Of The Jedi. I think it's some what underrated.
Comic-con Leia costume!! Best inspiration ever
Great video. I'm suddenly a big fan of Sam Witwer and Jaime King
Love it how the girl who doesn't like Ewoks more or less has a necklace like Teebo's.
May the force be with him.
This is great!
Return of The Jedi was by far my favorite. Luke became this awesome talented Boss of a Jedi who destroyed the hut, and defeated Vader in a duel
That was so awesome tk trooper just turn his head haha
Return was my favorite of the starwars movies
Bloody Marvelous!
Knowing Lucas, he made it part of the fine print in the sale deal not to undo the hated changes. Funny they mentioned the ewok song at the end, but no one mentions Lucas removing it for the unrealistic ending.
I actually just saw Dave Prowse at Comic Con recently and he told us that he was never informed that Vader would be seen without his helmet, and George put in Sebastian Shaw as a favor to Alec McGuiness without telling Dave. So While I'd rather not have Hayden there I'm kind of glad that Shaw was also excised since it was wrong to do that to the man who gave Vader his physical presence. They should have put Prowse in instead.
Return of the Jedi deserves more praise than what it got! The whole plot of Jedi was Darth Vader's redemption! The Ewoks are just the subplot! I never got annoyed by Ewoks! I simply ignored them! Ignore the Ewoks and you'll like Jedi as well as Star Wars and Empire!
I love the Ewoks! They were adorable, humorous, they treated 3PO like a God, made musical instruments out of the helmets of the Stormtroopers, and kicked the crap of the Emperor's Entire Legion of his "Best troops"!!!!! Tell me that's not a sufficient reason to love the Ewoks!!!!
Patrick...❤️
GREAT!!!
Awesome video, these celebrities pretty much said what I think of the movie, Star Wars is absolutely the greatest film franchise, excluding the prequels, ever made
They were not just using the helmets as instruments - keep in mind, they ATE those poor stormtroopers. They were even going to eat Han, Luke, and Chewbacca before Leia came out of the love den to stop it. So really, I agree: Ewoks are pretty awesome and clearly not afraid to eat humans and wookiees.
i love them all
"Send the fleet to the far side of Endor... There it will stay until called for..."
I saw Star Wars A new hope and Return of the Jedi at the movies....saw Empire on VHS....I'm a fan...lol
I agree with you, all except for the order... It is 6,5,4,3,1,2 in my eyes. At least Phantom Menace had Darth Maul - The iconic duel of the fates cannot be matched by any other scene in the prequel trilogy, I don't remember many saving graces of Attack of the Clones.
Love Return of the Jedi.
"A New Hope" is the BEST Star Wars movie.
patrick's impression though...
Great video! I saw this at the end of the May the 4th screening of RotJ in Hollywood this year. RotJ was not only the first Star Wars movie I ever saw, it was one of the first movies I ever saw! As such it will always hold a special place for me. I realize RotJ was the "worst" of the original trilogy, but it had a LOT to live up to. I prefer to think of Star Wars as one giant movie, and I love the whole thing! Episodes I-VI!
Haha I just remember who Topher Grace was. He was in that 70's Show, which his character also loved Star Wars.
Coincidence? I think not.
Patrick geeking out. D'awww
It would be amazing if 'Benedict Cumberbatch' was to play 'Grand Admiral Thrawn' in the new trilogy.
Or I would create a movie around Thrawn as I think it would make a great stand-alone movie.
Tie Fighter was one of the greatest games ever.
Would have been really cool to see this when it first came out...
I got nothing against Ewoks, but what I realized just last night (sad it took me this long to think of it) is they should not possess hang gliders if they live in a forest. Seriously, even as small as they are, an Ewok-size hang glider would not go far in a forest. The speeders shouldn't have been used in a forest setting either, but we're only discussing the Ewoks here.
That's like saying that Wes Craven used Friday The 13th as the template for Nightmare On Elm Street because they're both "slasher" horror, and that Freddy came from Jason. Or that Bruce Almighty used Kevin Smith's Dogma as template because they're both religious comedies, and that Morgan Freeman's portrayal of God came from Alanis Morrisette's portrayal.
In two months it will be 35 years since the last good star wars movie came out
yeah it was and he was from that 70's Show as well
One can only hope...one can only hope.
I love how, he said without return of the jedi, spaceballs would've made no sense. LOLWHAT!?
07:49 Patricks voice!! :D
Nice to see I'm not the only one who likes Return of the Jedi the most. Its just got everything I like in a good Star Wars story but more than that it offers the one thing Empire never did..........CLOSURE.
Well I agree, but the thing that to me was missing from ESB was something that was present in ANH.....THRILLS!
ASLB247 yup and that lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader at the end is one of the most thrilling Star Wars moments ever.
+MrEffectfilms Agreed.
It's called Star Wars Revisited!! Download it! ESB is due out later this year.
Reminds me, I should watch Star Wars again soon.
I was born in between Empire and Return so ROTJ has always been my favourite. Ewoks are OK in my book and I was gutted when the Yub Nub song was removed for Special edition 2.0, it's the main reason why I can't bring myself to purchasing the Blu-rays.
I love Return of the Jedi just as much as Empire and A New Hope.
2:27 What have we here? DOPE.
I'm a straight man, but I am in love with Sam Witwer. He is so funny!
Same here. ROTJ is also my favourite.
I discovered Ewok Handlers in Empire At War Forces of Corruption. That was truly funny.
Would be great as an outtake or something.
"Without Return Of The Jedi, Spaceballs wouldn't make as much sense"
What a truly excellent quote
