"Flames... on the side of my face" that whole thing was improvised by Madeline Kahn. Wadsworth says she was upset Yvette was "schtűpping" her husband. One of Madeline's most famous roles is Lili Von Schtűpp in Blazing Saddles.
My favorite joke in the movie is how everyone gradually gets desensitized by all the murders, until none of them are fazed at all to find that Yvette was killed, and unceremoniously dump the singing telegram girl on the study floor.
I love the bit where Mrs. White says they should have made sure Mr. Body was dead and Mrs. Peacock replies maybe we should have cut off his head to which Mrs. White responds "that was uncalled for."
When this movie was shown in theaters in 1985, when you checked Theater listing, it stated weather you get ending A, B, or C. On the DVD, you can select A,B, or C ending ot have the option to have your DVD player select the ending for you at random. It was fun that they did that in theaters, so you could see it several times and not know. It also was done to prevent people giving spoilers to their friends. I would see one ending, and you might see another...if I came out of the theater excited about the movie and had loose lips and spoiled the ending, you'd get a different ending at a different show time or theater.
@TheOGBojangles This was also one of the reasons why it didn't do so well in the theaters. People didn't want to see the movie 3 times to get the endings. This movie really caught fire and the fandom it has when all 3 ending were released together for home viewing.
@@amysilknitter8928 Many movies were that way. Another Tim Curry classic The Rocky Horror picture show was the same way. Did poorly theatrically, but in video rental it did really well.
I love the quick fire rapport and clever wordplay of Clue more than anything (along with some excellent physical comedy). I guarantee you'll pick up more jokes when you watch it again. Especially from White and Scarlett, who employ more than their fair share of double entendres.
"Flies are where men are most vulnerable!" I LOVE this movie. You're just careening down a rushing river of wit. And the casting was impeccable all around.
Yeah after the first viewing --- or seeing all three endings in the theater when it came out if you were of age back on the day --- it's no longer even remotely about the mystery. It's about the comedy, and that cast. And it never gets old. That's why I love reactions to it.
One fun casting bit: the singing telegram girl is Jane Wiedlin from the '70s punk band the Go Gos. You might also know her as Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
And Mr. Body is Lee Ving of the infamous LA hardcore punk band FEAR. it's weird casting but it sorta works.. even though all his dialogue seems looped (voiced over).
This is the first movie I ever saw Tim Curry in, so he's cemented as Wadsworth in my head, even though he's done amazing roles before & since. And given that they didn't go the pop culture reference route, the movie is still timeless, and the comedy is still impecable. SUCH a quotable movie, and an amazingly funny & talented cast.
"Professor Plum, you were once a professor of psychiatry specializing in helping paranoid and homicidal lunatics suffering from delusions of grandeur." "Yes, but now I work for the United Nations." "So your work has not changed." #TakeBackTurtleBay Fun Fact: The three endings were shown at a random theater when it first came out. All three are included on video. The DVD, however, aside from all three endings, also offers the option to play the movie with one randomly selected ending. Bonus Fact: The Max Busch House, the mansion used for the exterior and ballroom scenes, was destroyed by a massive fire on October 5, 2005. After the fire, several people left flowers on the front gate and even shed tears, evidence of how much the house was cherished by the local community.
This movie gets better with every watch. Never mind solving the puzzle, just admire the script, the gags, the one-liners, and the brillian actors and direction. This is a masterclass in comedy.
It just makes my heart happy to see younger people getting to know people like Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Gene Wilder, and so many more of the folks I grew up loving ^_^ I'm so glad that you enjoyed the movie. One of the few that's based on a board game, and one of the few that's actually good, and conveys the playing of the game so well!
Clue is one of my favorite comedy films of all time. The cast is the definition of STAR STUDDED. Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Tim Curry, Lee f*cking Ving???? Bravo Clue, bravo!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🕵🏻♂️🕵🏻♂️🕵🏻♂️
Don't forget Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet) who played Cinderella in 1965- my favorite version of it, Christopher Lloyd (Professor Plum) who played Doc Brown in Back to the Future & Michael McKean (Mr. Green) who was Lenny on the tv show Laverne & Shirley.
I love this movie so much and must have watched it 20+ times on VHS with my mom and my brother I was a kid. Years later, I happened upon a late night black and white movie called "Ten Little Indians," which is based off of an Agatha Christie story. Imagine my surprise when I saw that (without the humor) it was nearly identical to Clue. Apparently when they wrote the story for this movie, they had to come up with ideas, as board games have no stories. So the idea they went with was to make a comedic parody of Ten Little Indians. And holy shit, did it work!
I will forever associate this movie with getting my wisdom teeth removed. Watching this while coming down from anesthesia brings a WHOLE different level to the experience.
My favorite moment is when Ms white is going on about hating Yvette 'flames, flames coming out of my head...' the actress improvised the line and they kept it. I had this whole movie memorized as a kid!
Judging from your reaction to the weapons, I'm guessing you're not familiar with the board game. It's all about using the process of elimination to figure which of the six player characters killed Mr. Boddy, in which room, and with what weapon, as one of each is secretly put in an envelope at the start of the game, and the rest are divided equally among the players, with a single card that disproves a player's guess privately presented to them until they feel they've narrowed it down enough to make an official accusation, which takes them out of the game permanently if they're wrong. This also makes it a rare board game where at least three players are needed, since with just two it's just a completely rote experience of showing each other your cards until they're all done. This is why the film's dialogue goes a bit out of its way to keep mentioning the weapons and the house's rooms by name, plus Mr. Green's final line that he killed Mr. Boddy "in the hall, with the revolver," which is how an accusation is given in the game.
@@OGBReacts The two secret passages are also part of the game. Since you need to be in a room to make a guess that it's where the murder happened, they let you quickly move between the house's opposite corners to get there faster.
@@OGBReacts the characters in the game also had slightly different roles. For example, the Ms. White of the game was explicitly Body's maid. Mr. Green in the game also started out as a priest (and still is in the original UK version) named Reverand Green. White has also been replaced with a new character named Doctor Orchid, Body's adopted daughter.
@@Rmlohner That's one reason why I think it's such a smart use of the licence, since even though the game didn't have a story, it plays off all the elements that people will know, and even manages to riff on the idea that the game is different every time. I would like to know though if it was even partly inspired by a feature of the game that always annoyed me, the fact that you can be playing the murderer, and not know that you were the murderer! That absurd detail almost justifies it being a farce by itself...
Clue the boardgame has been around since the 40's. What they got in gifts are the murder weapons from the game. I've never played the board game myself but my guess to all the alternative endings is the same as it would be in the game - there's always gonna be a new killer for each round you play. I assume everyone gets a card of who will be the killer and it's up to everyone to figure out who is the killer in that round of game? Though I guess the real ending was written for the movie. To anyone who has actually played the game, be my guest to comment if I have got all of this wrong.
Here’s something most people miss. Each character’s name is essentially a color and in the board game the characters are wearing the color of their name. In the movie, however, it is their cars that are the color of their aliases. Also, it’s interesting to watch it again knowing the outcome. All of Mr. Body’s attempts to escape or have Wadsworth killed make since as he was probably being forced to play along and wanted out. For another fast paced and funny movie check out Oscar it has Marisa Tomei, Sylvester Stallone, and Tim Curry.
Most people aren't aware that in theaters they picked one of the 3 endings and sent it out (the final "I know who did it" when you play IRL before you open the envelope,) and the answer who was right didn't happen until it released on VHS and Beta Max.
So when you talked to friends who had went to different locations you could argue about it and "settle it when we buy it" (or for rich kids Pay Per View.) Brilliant marketing idea when you think about it...
It wasn't a big hit when it came out, but became a "hit"/cult classic on TV and home video. The next movie Christopher Lloyd (Prof. Plum) filmed after this was "Back to the Future".
Trivia: When "Mr. Boddy" is seated at the dining room table, there is a painting behind him of someone who looks veeeerrrry similar to him in a butler's uniform. This foreshadows the third ending.
Tim Curry is amazing, but everyone in this cast is superb. My kids will laugh at the same jokes I laughed at as a kid, so it still holds! My brother and I will still randomly sing to each other "I . Am. Your singing telegram. (Pow!!!)" And not a week goes by where I don't impersonate Ms. Whites' "Flames!? Flames on the sides of my face" 🤣
If there's one thing I love, it's your expression when you watch an old movie and go "what the hell is going on here?" And there's nobody who cracks me up quite like dear Madeline Kahn.
I gotta suggest "Murder by Death". All the famous mystery troupes (Miss Marple, Sam Spade, Poirot, Charlie Chan) in one 'Who done it" Comedy. Even Truman Capote is in it!
I loved how they managed to incorporate the board game with showing all the possible murder weapons, having the main locations and secret passages, and all of the characters' names. It is a super fun movie
Fun fact: the director of this also directed My Cousin Vinny and The Whole Nine Yards, and was the co-creator/co-writer of Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.
One of my favorite movies of all time. What I like (and that I don't know that anybody thinks about) is that the beginning part with the dog poop? Big clue that Wadsworth isn't really the butler. A real butler would have removed the shoes, left them outside, and gone inside to put a new pair on before ever tracking poop into the house.
The way the originally distributed this in movie theaters was to only include ONE random ending. That way when people talk about the movie they got different endings. It wasn't until it wsa released on video that they put all the endings together.
I had such a huuuuge crush on Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet) when I first saw this as a kid lol. They don't make movies like this masterpiece anymore
Clue is one of my favorite movies. I've been watching it since it came out in1985 and it's still funny. The cast is amazing and they each nailed their characters. as for the 'why is J. Edgar Hoover on your the phone. The FBI used to wiretaps phones of anyone they suspected of being communist. This was during the cold war.
“Why wouldn’t he be on my phone? He’s on everyone else’s!” And in the ‘80s, even though he had been dead for ten years, everyone still knew Hoover and his reputation, which had only gotten worse in these ten years.
One of my favourite jokes is when asked if the FBI is used to cleaning up multiple murders, Wadsworth said “of course, why do you think it’s run by a man called Hoover?!”
Great reaction as always..i hope you've seen the tv show 'Psych' it was such a funny well-written, well acted show & they are still making tv movies (so happy) ..but anyway Psych did an episode of CLUE so funny even got 3 of the actors to star. Lesley Warren, Martin Mull & Christopher( Doc) Lloyd. it's so good.✌
Shark's Fin soup is a delicacy in chinese cuisine. Had it at a lotta dinner banquets growing up. (Although soups like Bird's Nest are considered better, least so my dad would often say. I actually like Shark's Fin the most.) The fin contains gelatinous parts that feel like noodles. Because of massive overfishing, to the point many shark species have become severely endangered, and because often sharks are fished solely for the fins, with the remainder of the carcasses tossed, the soup is being increasingly banned in many jurisdictions in the past 10-15 years, with additional measures to disincentivize shark fishing. You can look up the controversy. The "noodle" parts of the fins really don't taste like anything at all, and could easily be substituted with bean noodles and countless similar, which is now becoming a trend. However, superstitions run high in Chinese culture, so many believe eating certain types of exotic foods will improve one's health in a variety of ways, hence why illegal shark hunting still occurs, even in the international trade (like sharks being hunted for fins only in South America to be exported to Asia).
I love this movie so much. This is one of those movies that me and/or my dad will come back to frequently when we want to watch something fun without needing to pay too much attention (since we both know all the lines inside and out). And the more you watch it, the more you'll catch little bits that you missed before. It's a great time. I still need to see Knives Out, but I've been told that it does take a lot of inspiration from this movie.
For years I had only ever caught this movie on TV and always missed the start of it so I never got the "Go home and sleep with my wife!" joke until I got it on DVD years later! Also, in my opinion only the Miss Scarlett ending actually works. In the Mrs. Peacock ending she can't have turned off the electricity on the ground floor and immediately be seen in the basement hitting an air conditioning duct with her purse. And in the 'Everybody Did It' ending whoever kills Yvette is waiting for her in the billiard room, but you can still hear Mrs. White screaming upstairs!
SOLID CLASSIC that you can not watch and not laugh unless you have no, none, not one tiny ounce of a sense of humor. This movie will live on forever like any real classic!!!! Glad you got to watch it!!!! "Let us in, let us in"... "Let us out, let us out". Kills me every time. So many lines but that's my top duo.
Omg yes!! Could not wait for you to do this one! My favorite comedy of all time! The cast, the comedic timing is unmatched, the script, the blocking it’s all just perfect!
Ow, my brain is a fair reaction. This is literally my favorite comedy of all time, and 4th favorite movie period. Also my favorite Tim Curry performance, just barely above Frankenferter.
This was originally released as 3 different movies each with a different ending. In my city there were enough theaters so that they were listed in the paper as A, B, or C, so you could see all 3 if you were so inclined (I did). Also you might find Murder By Death if you want to see another comedy who-dun-it.
Murder By Death is a good one... another similar one is the late 70's (forgot the year exactly since I was a kid when I watched it) "The Private Eyes" with Tim Conway and Don Knotts
As much as I love the movie CLUE watching this on your channel was so much fun. I was laughing all through it . When you kept saying "my brain" I was cracking up . I am absolutely going to be watching this here again. This was a delightful treat and I appreciate your channel very much. Thank you
6:44 - Even Werewolves have knards! 😜🤣👍 The three endings was a gimmick that the movie tried where they sent out different copies of the movie to theatres and so people who went to see it never knew which version with which ending they were going to see (In fact, before the release, audiences didn't even know there were multiple endings and were confused when people who saw it at different times/theatres remembered different endings); there was even suppose to be four different endings, but the fourth one while scripted was never shot because of budget/time restrictions. The gimmick was mostly a failure, as the makers undoubtedly hoped people would return to the see the movie multiple times, which they did not. After that, for the longest time, only the "Final Solution" version, with the multiple murderers, was available on VHS rentals and on TV until decades later when the studio produced a DVD release with all three endings fused together (As you saw it here) plus with the option of viewing the movie with only one randomly selected ending. Canadian actor, Ryan Reynolds, is said to have been working on a Remake/Reboot of Clue for years now, but the pandemic seems to have put break on his plans and the project has been left in limbo (But, BOY: Am I hoping it does make it to the big screen some day soon!). Clue is one of my all time favorite movies and I use to own a VHS copy that I would play whenever I was painting figurines as a hobby in the late 80s/early 90s and I have literally viewed it over 500 times so far.
The board game has been around forever, I was playing it in the 70’s. Right before the blackmail evidence is thrown in the fire you see that there is a picture of the colonel and the motorist together in the army. The singing telegram girl is a member of the girl group the Go Go’s.
My “OG” (😋) favorite movie!🍿 The script is SO tight and quotable! It’s hard to catch on a first watch because of the speedy line delivery, but one of the best examples of this film’s wordplay is.. Col. Mustard: You lure men to their deaths like a spider with flies. Mrs. White: Flies are where men are most vulnerable! Ha! A metaphorical parallel between an actual spider trapping/killing/living off insects and Mrs. White (a “black widow”) who attracts male prey by appealing to their *pants* fly? Genius!
this is one of those movies i can watch over and over. so many subtle jokes, i know they are coming but they still make me laugh. the multiple endings was an interesting facet. i loved how it mimic'd the board game in that each time you play it there was a different killer/weapon/room. i read they planned to have an ending for each character as the killer but was too expensive to film them all. but the craziest part is that when they sent the film to theaters they only sent it with 1 ending....but different endings to different theaters!
If you like quick witted comedy, look up "Noises Off" '92 with Carol Burnett and Michael Caine. It's based off of a real play of the same name by Michael Frayn.
I'd also add Le Diner De Con (French film remade as Dinner For Schmucks, but I prefer the original), and the recent BBC series The Goes Wrong Show as something that someone who enjoys those films might also appreciate
The "flames on the side of my face" bit is my favorite moment in this movie. Gifs of that are always my go-to when I'm just really irritated with something, lol.
The multiple endings were a pretty neat gimmick, but the downside is that the film couldn't actually function as a legitimate mystery. Since various different killers were possible, all the "clues" had to be vague enough to fit each one, so it's impossible to figure out the killer yourself on first viewing, like any good mystery should strive for. This also makes everyone's performances quite impressive, as during many scenes they had to act in a way that could be read as either being genuinely innocent, or the killer who's putting on an act.
Plus you could say it's the ultimate critique on Mystery Genre as a whole. Mystery writers sometimes leave out too much or put too much in like "Red Herrings" in order to confuse the reader so it's not so obvious who the killer is in the end. This movie shows anyone literally could be the killer through the various endings methods. Ending A not only applies to Scarlett but also Mustard, and Mrs White. Evette is the accomplice which makes their murders posible. Ending B for Peacock and Plum since both were in the cellar and both were missing during various key scenes in the first half of the movie. End C shows us Everyone could have killed someone. It's one of the greatest mystery films for me because it has all the tropes of a mystery and subverts so many of them while staying true to the Board game narratively.
The first time I ever saw my brother cry laughing was when I was about 14 which puts him at about 9 and what got him was the singing telegram girl being shot. He was laughing like a hyena and red faced and crying, our mom made me pause it because she couldn’t hear the movie 😅
You reaction was so good! I actually just talked about this movie , because this was not we received at the time. Critics hated it. Even though I thought it was genius from the jump. Originally the endings were shown separately. Like you could see a b and c endings at different times.
I saw it as soon as it came out on vhs. So I always saw all 3 endings. I think I would feel ripped off if I only got one. I really do think the last one makes the most sense.
It may be the best film based on any type of game - Doom, Super Mario Brothers, Angry Birds... It's not a hard contest to win to be fair, but this is still a very good film
Mr Body is singer 4 legendary punk band FEAR, which was my idol John Belushi's fave band when he died. I snuck backstage at a show & instead of kicking my ass like I expected, he was actually cool mofo & told me stories bout him! FEAR & JOHN BELUSHI CULTURAL ICONS OF 70'S & 80'S EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK OUT!!! This film when released n theaters had 3 different movies instead of showing the 3 different possible endings-that was 4 VHS release & cable! The game was as popular as the top video games of 2day-EVERYBODY PLAYED & LOVED!! ✌ ❤ 🚬
This movie was literally (and I’m using this word correctly) a childhood staple of mine. I was born in 1985 when this movie was released and it’s amazing. As a child the incredibly obvious sexual nature of this movie went right over my head. But looking back it’s one of the funniest movies with clever innuendo. I wish more people would react to this movie. It’s an underrated classic with a star studded cast. I think i’d prob be mrs peacock or ms scarlett. Talkative to fill the silence or own up to my business and rock it. Love mrs white’s cloak though.
The best thing about this movie: The man, the myth, the legend, Tim Curry. The guy makes everything he's in instantly cool. He almost saved Home Alone 2. He reminds me a bit of Stephen Fry (of Jeeves & Wooster, V For Vendetta and A Bit of Fry and Laurie, among other things). He's believably over the top and entertaining. He was the "Transylvanian" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The guy is like John Inman AKA Mr. Humphries in the brilliant, classic Britcom Are You Being Served and I love it. "I'm free!"
@13:31 - right on the money, Sam - according to Rian Johnson, Knives Out was indeed heavily inspired by this movie. Another one he cited as influential is the movie version of Evil Under the Sun, based on one of my favourite Agatha Christie novels and featuring an all-star cast led by Peter Ustinov as Hercules Poirot. 😊
My knowledge and appreciation of Christie is by no means encyclopedic, but the reason I like Evil Under the Sun and its various adaptations so much, and the reason it's clearly an influence on Knives Out, is that it's the epitome of a Poirot style locked room murder mystery, except it takes place in broad daylight on a beach, and there's a whole angle involving the geography of the island on which it's set, which much like the Thrombey mansion is almost a character in and of itself. Plus you get the all-star cast typical of these jaunts - Diana Rigg, Maggie Smith, James Mason, Roddie McDowall, Jane Birkin and Nicholas Clay.
And rather miraculously, the ending of that play actually hasn't yet achieved "pop culture osmosis" where everyone knows what's supposed to be a twist ending.
@@Rmlohner Holy Cliche, Batman! That's a superb point; I never thought about that before. That *really* _is_ curious given the play's (and Christie's) immersion into culture. Genuine and deep thanks for replying to my silly trivia with something worth mulling over.
The game Clue/Cluedo and the play Mousetrap were both based on a popular LARP played by rich people at country house weekends, variously called Murder, Murder In The Dark etc, with one "murderer" trying to "kill" everyone else. It survives in a near-original form as the card game Werewolf and, online, as Mafia.
Yes the game was out long before the movie. The aliases are all the names from the game. Shark fin soup is actually delicious but sad as they kill the shark just for the fin. How have you never played CLUE before? The boxes were filled with all of the weapons from the game. And the reason there are multiple endings is because when they released this in theaters originally there were three different endings you might see depending on what theater you saw it in, because different theaters were delivered a movie with a random ending. So just like the game had a different killer, using a different weapon, in a different room each time you played the game...the movie was the same for different movie goers depending on where they saw it. When it was finally released on tv and rental they put all three endings in the movie. One of my favorite movies.
If you want a similar film, you can try Noises Off (1992), a fast paced farce about a touring theatre company. It has a similar ensemble cast, and a similar feel in wit and tone. Haven't managed to see it in years (never seems to find its way on to streaming), but did remember really enjoy it at the time I saw it. Hopefully this isn't just nostalgia talking, it's less gory and lacks the whodunnit aspect, but if my memory is right the two are a good double bill The boardgame was one of the first ones to really get big, partly because it arrived at the right time when they had started to make things with plastic (just after WW2), so it wasn't based on any particular book, BUT murder mystery novels had started to become popular in the 19th century, and you had people like Agatha Christie in the 1920s etc so it had those as partial inspiration. Whether Knives Out was inspired by this, or just shared that same heritage is a question for the writer. The game itself is quite dated now, the way you move around the board is quite frustrating compared to some good modern titles like Awkward Guests, or the very quick and dirty Small Detectives. If you're interested, there is a neat board game that uses an app, Chronicles Of Crime, that acts like a point and click adventure but uses the phone and cards in the game as an interface. As for this film, it's a gloriously silly romp, that takes just enough of the game ("We need to work out who killed him, where and with what", the names, the weapons etc), and even though I know the Singing Telegram bit happens, it makes me laugh every time. The final reveal is a lot of fun too
Another old black and white series of who done it movies would be the Miss Marple movies from the 1960's like Murder Most Foul, Murder She Said, Murder At A Gallop, and Murder Ahoy. Margaret Rutherford plays Miss Marple, a bold and eccentric old lady. Well worth watching since actors back then were cut from a different cloth.
Love your review on this, it was and still is funny. Im sure its already in the comments, but in case not, if you saw this in the Theatre at the time, you only got one ending at a time. It worked bc ppl shared and went back to the show over and over. Keep Rocking the reviews!

Fun Fact: The three endings were shown at a random theater when it first came out.
I love this movie so much! The singing telegram murder cracks me up every time. The more times that you watch it you pick up more and more.
The singing telegram girl was Jane Wiedlin from The Go-Go’s.
This movie gets better with every watch. Never mind solving the puzzle, just admire the script, the gags, the one-liners, and the brillian actors and direction. This is a masterclass in comedy.
It just makes my heart happy to see younger people getting to know people like Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Gene Wilder, and so many more of the folks I grew up loving ^_^
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the movie.
Oh my goodness, one of the most criminally underrated movies of all time! I’m going to enjoy your reaction to this gem 😄
Damn I kinda wish i had that experience. That would awesome
Yes! I've only heard of the boardgame, like the movie, but have never played!
Very interesting
"Long story short.... too late" is a popular expression in our family.
Oscar!!!!!!!!! It's an awesome silly movie and Tim Curry is hilarious
It wasn't a big hit when it came out, but became a "hit"/cult classic on TV and home video. The next movie Christopher Lloyd (Prof. Plum) filmed after this was "Back to the Future".
I suggest "Murder by Death" (1976)! You will love it!
Oh! Absolutely. One very funny movie.
Trivia: When "Mr. Boddy" is seated at the dining room table, there is a painting behind him of someone who looks veeeerrrry similar to him in a butler's uniform. This foreshadows the third ending.
I love how all of them are wearing the opposite colors of their name. Ms. White wears black, Col mustard wears red, Ms Scarlet wears green.
Ohhh what a good catch!
Plum wears brown. Peacock is gold.
There's a pub I always avoid going to, people ask why and I bring up it's landlord and do the whole Flames on the sides of my face thing
Yes. The flames part is a staple in my vocab
For me it's when someone says "long story short" I have to say "too late."
Mr green being straight is the biggest twist in this movie
If there's one thing I love, it's your expression when you watch an old movie and go "what the hell is going on here?" And there's nobody who cracks me up quite like dear Madeline Kahn.
I gotta suggest "Murder by Death". All the famous mystery troupes (Miss Marple, Sam Spade, Poirot, Charlie Chan) in one 'Who done it" Comedy. Even Truman Capote is in it!
and Mrs. Peacock is the hard-boiled detective's secretary
I loved how they managed to incorporate the board game with showing all the possible murder weapons, having the main locations and secret passages, and all of the characters' names. It is a super fun movie
The game board is the main floor.
Fun fact: the director of this also directed My Cousin Vinny and The Whole Nine Yards, and was the co-creator/co-writer of Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.
Anything Tim Curry. I'm all in.
One of my favorite movies of all time. What I like (and that I don't know that anybody thinks about) is that the beginning part with the dog poop? Big clue that Wadsworth isn't really the butler. A real butler would have removed the shoes, left them outside, and gone inside to put a new pair on before ever tracking poop into the house.
one of my favorite reactors, reacting to my favorite movie. I'm happy
Aww thank you!!
One of my favorite comedies!
"Flames...flames..." - amazing improve!
I love how in theaters in the 1980s it had different endings depending on where your lived. On video they just put all 3 endings on it
Clue is one of my favorite movies.
Great reaction as always..i hope you've seen the tv show 'Psych' it was such a funny well-written, well acted show & they are still making tv movies (so happy)
..but anyway Psych did an episode of CLUE so funny even got 3 of the actors to star.
Knives Out is fantastic!
Clue is probably the only "traditional" board game I still really enjoy, and a lot of that is nostalgia for this film.
Omg yes!! Could not wait for you to do this one!
My favorite comedy of all time!
The cast, the comedic timing is unmatched, the script, the blocking it’s all just perfect!
The biggest clue that everyone misses is Mr. Green saying "I didn't do it" over and over
Ow, my brain is a fair reaction. This is literally my favorite comedy of all time, and 4th favorite movie period. Also my favorite Tim Curry performance, just barely above Frankenferter.
This movie never gets old. Absolutely one of my favorites - you’ve really been choosing a lot of amazing movies lately! 🥰🥰
Thank you
That's so sweet D:
You are too kind!! Thank you so much
Also, this is definitely one of Tim Curry’s best performances. That man had an incredible career.
6:44 - Even Werewolves have knards! 😜🤣👍
The three endings was a gimmick that the movie tried where they sent out different copies of the movie to theatres and so people who went to see it never knew which version with which ending they were going to see (In fact, before the release, audiences didn't even know there were multiple endings and were confused when people who saw it at different times/theatres remembered different endings); there was even suppose to be four different endings, but the fourth one while scripted was never shot because of budget/time restrictions.
This is one of those movies that I would be interested to see a remake!
We used to play the board game constantly in the 80s and absolutely loved this movie as well.
The board game has been around forever, I was playing it in the 70’s. Right before the blackmail evidence is thrown in the fire you see that there is a picture of the colonel and the motorist together in the army.
The singing telegram girl is a member of the girl group the Go Go’s.
Great reaction, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've loved this movie since i was a kid. In the early 90's it was one of my favourite movies.
One of a very short list of perfect movies.
I loved watching this when they would run it on TV growing up... so much so that my parents gave me the VHS of it for Xmas and I happy cried lmao
GAAAAh this is one of my favorite movies. So excited to see your reaction. Clicked so fast!
Hope you enjoy!!
This also makes everyone's performances quite impressive, as during many scenes they had to act in a way that could be read as either being genuinely innocent, or the killer who's putting on an act.
perhaps so, but in doing what they did, they made it authentic to the board game, which i'd argue matters even more.
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed
The whole endings thing is pretty fun and cool!!
I saw it as soon as it came out on vhs. So I always saw all 3 endings. I think I would feel ripped off if I only got one. I really do think the last one makes the most sense.
I'm sure someone got to this but "flames, on the sides of my face" was an adlib by Madeline Kahn.
I think this was the first film based on a board game, and still the best I think.
And the ultimate comedy ensemble movie.
It may be the best film based on any type of game - Doom, Super Mario Brothers, Angry Birds... It's not a hard contest to win to be fair, but this is still a very good film
Okay I'm happy your doing this one after this one there is another 1985 film I think you'll love LEGEND
The cook was the late Kellye Nakahara famous as Nurse Kelly on M.A.S.H. and as the "big girl" in the shower scene in Porky's
Another great comedy in the same vein as this one that I can highly recommend would be the movie Murder by Death. Such a fun comedy.
His name is Lee Ving. Like leaving.
When this was released in theaters, theaters throughout the country got one of the three different endings.
“Flames… Flames on the side of my face…“
Yes! One of my all-time favorites! So glad you enjoyed it!
One of my favorite movies! Anytime I see it on TV I watch it. Love it!!
"I'm free!"
You forgot that he was the original Pennywise as well. I remember that people were really excited that he was cast in the role, for good reason.
He absolutely kills in Rocky Horror Picture Show as Dr Frankenfurter.
I think you can pick whatever ending you want. In the board game, any of the characters can potentially be the murderer.
The OG whodunnit is Agatha Christie's Mousetrap...which the boardgame Clue is unofficially based upon.
First saw this movie after I rented it from the library lol Shame the multiple endings didnt work that well in theatres, it's a fun gimmick
Hopefully this isn't just nostalgia talking, it's less gory and lacks the whodunnit aspect, but if my memory is right the two are a good double bill
The boardgame was one of the first ones to really get big, partly because it arrived at the right time when they had started to make things with plastic (just after WW2), so it wasn't based on any particular book, BUT murder mystery novels had started to become popular in the 19th century, and you had people like Agatha Christie in the 1920s etc so it had those as partial inspiration.
If you want another movie with the same kind of manic energy, check out 1991's "Oscar" starring Sylvester Stallone (and also has Tim Curry)!
"The guy lived in a game of Clue."
-The police detective from Knives Out
I LOVE Mrs. White and Professor Plum. Loved that game since I was a kid.
Ms. White's Flaming speech was improvised. They let him run.
Love your review on this, it was and still is funny. Im sure its already in the comments, but in case not, if you saw this in the Theatre at the time, you only got one ending at a time. It worked bc ppl shared and went back to the show over and over. Keep Rocking the reviews!
If you haven't seen them, I'd highly recommend Guy Ritchie's movies. Especially "Snatch," "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels," and "RocknRolla."
I'm here for your reaction to The Singing Telegram and you did not disappoint :D
I was so confused, but it was honestly so funny LMAO
This movie is not the classic whodunnit. It is actually a parody of classic pulp whodunnit novels and movies.
Thank you so much! This just might be my favorite film of all time.
You should check out "Murder By Death". It was a precursor to this move, very funny.
The singing telegram girl gets me everytime. "I am your singing telegram"...BANG....Thud! 😂
