Great lesson, this really helped me.You always offer great information to your subscribers. Question, how would you handle a dark tree on a dark evening ... no reflective light involved??? Thanks for your time.
Good question. Well there will always be some contrast in light even in a dark setting. Say if the tree was silhouetted against a moonlit sky, then the sky would be slighty lighter than the tree shape. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, I know it's been a long time! I really do hope to make more but I don't know when yet. Thanks for the nice comment and for watching the channel! :)

Thanks to your videos I decided to try out Rublev, and I am really excited to see how I like them. Thank you so much for all the information and tips.
In truth a well made oil paint should not dry in the tube and should remain usable indefinitely as long as the tube is sealed and remains air tight. However certain pigments or a compromised tube can cause this to happen. The only thing I can think of that would prevent that if you are haivng problems, is to store the tubes in the freezer when you aren't using them. It slows down the drying process. Thanks for watching! :)
Jason, you have enough for a regular art show. I could use more Walcott paint alongs. We've seen your studio, we know you have watercolors. Give us more, please.
I know this is off topic, but I'm wondering if you use water mixable oils, and if so would you be willing to do a tutorial? I have been given a set and I'd like to get started but haven't found someone out there who teaches the way you do. Thanks.
Good question! To be honest, I don't care for the water mixable oils, so I probably won't be doing a demo of them on my channel. You can do anything with them that regular oils can do. The only difference of course is they can be thinned and cleaned with water. They are compatible with regular oils as well, and can be intermixed with them, but past a certian point they will lose their water solubility if mixed with too much regular oil paint. Thanks for watching!
@@walcottfineart5088 Thanks for your honesty. I dabbled a little with them last night and the impression I got from first use was that they were a bit stiff. But then again I use M. Graham paints most often, so I'm used to a smooth texture. I still don't know how I feel about them altogether.

Hello Walcott, How have you been lately? I would like to know from you the following please: Have you ever used or done a video review about the limited pallet oil paint brand called Geneva? There is this artist in Texas by the name of Carder who created the above-mentioned, who also teaches a course that claims the Geneva oil paints to be of very good quality due to their self levelling, and easy to apply handling qualities compared to other oil paint brands. Kindly let me know. Thank you. Fernando
Thanks for your question! I have not used the Geneva oil paints, so I can't really say anything about them. I have seen Carder's videos. I'm guessing they are no better or worse than any other good quality brand on the market. Thanks for watching!
hey jason, ive commented and watched many of your videos, especially on paints and mediums. noticed you havent posted in in 2 years. Hope you didnt get burned out and your doing well. miss your videos
Great video. I have a question though: was the phtalo green painted at minute 4 a color mistake, and later corrected with cooler mix (bluemarine), or was it there as a background for the cooler mix to sit on top of it?
"Warm and cool" is a well known concept among most artists. Basically warm colors are colors like red, yellow and orange while cool colors are blue, green and purple. It is relative though as you can have a warm red or a cool red, etc... Light that is bluish would be considered cool while light that is yellowish or orangey is considered warm. That's the most basic and quick explanation I can give. Thanks for watching!
Jason, can you please remind me how you fixed the ornery Winsor Newton "push down and twist" bottle caps on their mediums? I have just pliered the black part off, but still cannot get the bottle open! Many, many thanks, and I hope you're well and painting up a storm.
Once you pry off that outer cap, you should just be able to twist off the inner one like a normal cap. If not, it probably just means it's stuck on by whatever is in the bottle drying around the rim. Try pliers or running it under hot water for a bit and then see if it comes off. Thanks for watching! :)
Quick question if you wouldn't mind because I'm finding it difficult to get the answer i need Jason. John pototschnik, an American artist has said in one of his videos that he oiled out his painting with liquin. I've done the same and I'm concerned that I've destroyed the painting I've been working on for quite a while. Is it a bad idea to use just liquin to oil out ? Love you video's and look forward to the next one.
Well, to be honest "I don't know" is the best answer I can give. I certainly don't think you've "ruined" your painting, but we don't yet know the long term stability of Liquin. Gamblin recommends using a mixture of half Gamsol and half Galkyd, which is essentially the same thing as Liquin. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but if in doubt you can always use linseed oil in the future. It will just take longer to dry. Thanks for watching! :)
Hello. I hope you are doing really well. I have a request. Can you please explain what to do once you are completed with your painting. How to fix it. So that the dust can be wiped of and the paint won't smudge.
Typically a painting shouldn't gather enough dust to be noticeable in the time it takes it to dry. If you live in a particularly dusty area, try leaning the painting against something so it is slanted face down rather than up. That may help. Once the painting is completely dry, it can be dusted off like anything else. Use a lint free duster. Thanks for watching!
Hey Jason always great to see one of your videos excellent tip thank you very much. Hope you have a very happy Halloween I bet your house is all decorated! 🎃🎃🎃

Hello, can you review please or reply direct here about the color artist grade of Lukas red vs Michael harding cadmium red.. I want to buy that color but I can't choose of the two which is good or more pigment color.
Thanks for watching! Really those two colors are different pigments and will behave in different ways so it depends on what you need it to do. Lukas Red is really pyrrole red (PR254) which is a modern organic pigment. It has high color saturation and will make brightly colored tints when mixed with white. It will also have some transparency to it. Cadmium red, while bright red right from the tube, will produce duller tints that are slightly grayish when you mix white in. This is an inherent property of that pigment. Cadmium colors are also very opaque. If you are just looking for a general mixing red to use, then the Lukas is probably more versatile, Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for your informative answer now I decided to buy Lukas red.. Actually a love Michael harding cad red but it is very expensive per tube of 40ml or the big tubes I prefer tube to buy of Cadmium red like 200ml for my big size of painting so that it doesn't run out immediately then Lukas 1862 is quite affordable so the price compares to other color brands like Michael harding, Old holland professional grade the tube is super expensive.
