We continue our Hot Springs, Arkansas tour as we move just 30 minutes from Gulpha Gorge Campground to Lake Catherine State Park. This one is exciting because we are meeting family here!
Lake Catherine State Park is an Arkansas State Park along the shores of beautiful Lake Catherine in the Ouachita Mountain region. Our visiting family stayed in one of the 20 fully equipped cabins. Their cabin's porch overlooks the marina. There are 70 campsites, many with full hook-ups, six primitive tent sites, and one yurt. Also, many sites are waterfront or water view. Sites are large and most have some shade.
There is so much to do here. Take a swim in the lake, go fishing, or head out for a horseback ride. There are miles of hiking trails and one leads to a waterfall, although it was more of a trickle during our visit, but still a scenic area. The marina rents boats, kayaks, and paddleboards. We tried our hand at paddleboarding while there, and we didn't tip over! The park has events and one that we participated in was the sunset boat cruise. We learned about the history of the area and many interesting facts.
Lake Catherine State Park is about 30 minutes from Hot Springs National Park and Bathhouse Row. You can learn all about the history of the area, soak in the warm mineral water, hike to the top of the mountain, or stroll along the Grand Promenade. Across the street are many interesting shops. Bonus, there is FREE parking right across from Bathhouse Row in the parking garage. Grab some pizza at Grateful Head Pizza Oven and Beer Garden and some fudge a Kilwins Hot Springs. Of course, anything that you might need can be found in Hot Springs. We took advantage of one of the Amazon lockers in town while there.
If you are into theme parks and water parks, Magic Springs is just a 30-minute drive from the campground. There are roller coasters and other thrill rides and a huge water park. We visited there and had an amazing day.
We love this area! We have one more Hot Springs stop before we head back east.

Good morning Gary & Sharon. As always really enjoy your campground reviews! Don’t know if it will work but might be worth trying out. Ever give any thought to putting a black towel across top of your dash for the campground reviews? It might help with the glare. Might be worth a shot! Keep enjoying the retired life as long as y’all can! 👏👍
We appreciate the comment and suggestion. We have tried a dark colored blanket, but it just reflected the dark blanket. Ugh. I do have a wide black scarf that I'm going to try next time. We lucked out on our recent drive about because it was overcast, no glare!. 👍

We appreciate the comment and suggestion. Yes, we will make sure to add information about laundry facilities. That is important to RVers, even with an onboard washer/ dryer, we still use laundry facilities for larger items. We mention them occasionally, but that needs to be a consistent bit of info that we share. 👍
